Ok why is it suddenly running well now?? 3600 is still failing but I think it's because of the memory controller and not the DIMMs.

I have a singular and pressing question that has been on my mind ever since I encountered your impressive work. How on earth did you manage to compress the zip file down to a mere size of 11.5 megabytes? It is truly remarkable, especially when considering that the original image file, which you presumably worked with, has a considerable size of 1 gigabyte. This discrepancy in size raises some intriguing thoughts about the methods or techniques you employed to achieve such an efficient compression. I’m genuinely curious about the process behind it, as the ability to significantly reduce file sizes while retaining quality is not only fascinating but seems incredibly valuable in various fields. Your approach could potentially have implications that extend beyond this particular instance, especially in situations where file size can be a limiting factor in transfer and storage. This is not just a matter of curiosity for me; it directly impacts my professional work and future endeavors. I would greatly appreciate any insight you could provide regarding how this transformation was accomplished.
The disk image contains a near empty disk partition (filled with zeros) that is used for DMA testing (direct disk to memory transfers). Zeros are easy to compress, hence it can be compressed to such a small size.
Hey for ram Info it says : xmp 3597 and the timings with it , but I overclocked my ram that’s why I wanted to test it for stability , is there a way to fix this ?
The RAM information displayed by MemTest86 is the data that is programmed into the RAM stick itself by the manufacturer (the so called SPD data). These are the manufacturer suggested timings, clock speeds, voltages, etc... MemTest86 doesn't display the current timings that you manually set in BIOS. But it also doesn't change those timings. So if you overclock the RAM, it will stay overclocked during testing.

1) The two boot menu options are the same. Different UEFI BIOSs from different companies search for and display the boot options in different ways. On some motherboards you might be one option (or the other) and on some you get both options. 2) The current version of Memtest86 only works on machines with UEFI BIOS (i.e. pretty much all computers made in the last 10 years are OK). If you have an older machine, with traditional BIOS, then you need to use the old V4 MemTest86 software.
Hello! Please be aware that not all errors reported by MemTest86 are due to bad memory. The test implicitly tests the CPU, L1 and L2 caches as well as the motherboard. It is impossible for the test to determine what causes the failure to occur. However, most failures will be due to a problem with memory module. Maybe you can help me out. I just upgrade my cpu from a ryzen 9 3900x to a ryzen 9 5900x and for some reason when I get into main menu in games or start to game my pc would shutdown on it's own, but the only thing is that my rpg lights on my mobo and ram stick would still be on. The RPG on the ram stick is not moving just frozen and not even that I have to shutdown my pc through my psu by turning it off because pressing my power button to turn it off doesn't work. I can turn my psu back on and my pc will work again, but it seem like this only happens when gaming. Anything not game relate I can use my pc just fine. I thought too it was my new cpu so I switched back and it happened again my 3900x so idk what could be the problem. I am getting tried of pc problem and stress out because I don't want to spend money to fix it all the time. I am not rich and I can't always replace parts. It took me a while before i was able to build this pc. My spec are 3900x as of writing this and I can reinstall my 5900x back paired with rtx 3080ti 32gb of ram with 3200mhz from corsair and a gold 80 plus 850 watts psu. I do have my cpu being cooled off by my aio corsair 2 fan. What I've done to try to fix it. I have updated my bios, updated my gpu drive and reseated my ram stick which it did help for like 1-3 weeks before it started to shutdown again on me today. Edit forgot to add that my cpu temp while gaming is like 55 to 64 C and gpu sometime gets to 86C, but no higher than that for now. Edit: when I reseated the ram once it fix the problem temporarily until it happen again after 1-2 weeks. So this time I removed one ram stick and just left one instead of the 32gb of ram I used before I know have 16gb signal channel. So far it seem to working, but I believe it could just be a temp fix. Do you think it is a psu issue or a ram problem? P.S. my 3900x and 5900x is paired with a 3080 ti and 850 watts gold from Thermaltake.
@@passmarkSorry for the late response; I've been dealing with my PC shutting down. I managed to get it working temporarily by switching the RAM stick. Previously, I had a 32GB dual-stick configuration of Corsair RAM. However, I discovered that this temporary solution can potentially cause damage by frequently switching between RAM sticks to keep it running for at least 4-5 days. I tried accessing the BIOS to boot from my USB stick, following the steps shown in the video. The BIOS recognizes and displays the USB as a UEFI USB stick. I attempted changing the boot order to prioritize the USB, but it didn't work. I also tried holding Shift while clicking the restart button in the power menu, which displays the 4 Windows options, but selecting the option to boot from my USB only takes me back to the desktop. Furthermore, I tried double-clicking on my USB while in the boot menu, but nothing happened. Even when bypassing the BIOS and selecting the option to boot from the USB flash stick, it just redirects me back to the UEFI BIOS screen on my Asus TUF motherboard."

Hi. Sorry to hear you are having trouble booting into MemTest86. There are full details on booting into MemTest86 here: www.memtest86.com/tech_booting-memtest.html. If you are still encountering issues, please send us an email at help@passmark.com and our support team will help you out.
Hey, I've got a strange thing happening where MT only boots after I remove the USB stick, after selecting either one of the partitions. Otherwise, with the stick in, all I get is a black screen.
I've tried different USB ports too, and it makes no difference.
I have an MSI B450 Tomahawk Max, with the latest non beta uefi, and it's in uefi mode (csm is the other).
Hello! Thank you for your message, we are sorry to hear you are experiencing this challenge. Unfortunately, we have not seen this happen before, so we recommend re-imaging your USB and resetting your BIOS settings to default. There is also some chance it is a bad USB flash drive. Hopefully this fixes this issue for you!
You should not remove the USB stick as log files and test reports are written to the drive.
It is also possible to generate a debug log

This background music will forever be the "Habie147 video" soundtrack in my mind, I'm sorry
I have 16gb ddr5 two sticks, can you test each stick individually or do I have to remove one and test etc.
Hi Lucky. Yes, you need to remove one and test them individually.
@@passmark thanks!!

Hi, I already did what the tutorial says, but after I restart my device don't appear anything. It starts normally. Could you help to run Memtest86? Should I need to do another thing to start Memtest86 after restar my computer?
Hi Jose! When you boot into UEFI BIOS (by pressing ESC, F9, F11 or F12 on start-up), can you use the boot menu to select the bootable USB you created? From this point of the video. ua-cam.com/video/EDCk04hgVEk/v-deo.html

Hello! Sorry to hear you are currently experiencing this issue. Are you able to send a debug log via the instructions here: www.memtest86.com/tech_debug-logs.html - our support team should be able to assist.
Hey, PassMark team!
I ran the .exe and let it do its thing to my drive (H:). I've confirmed it has the "EFI" folder from December 2022, so I assume I'm good to go.
However, it also kept bugging me to create a new drive (I:). I formatted it and it's empty, but using 16 KB (of 507 MB on a 16 GB flash drive).
So, uh... what do I boot from? H: with the EFI folder? Or this new I: drive?
Hi Jeff! You should be booting from from H:, I: is a partition used for the DMA test (Test 14). Hope this clears things up for you.
Hi What does it mean when it writes for example in errors "Test: 4 addr: 4EBC9975C Expected: FEFEFEFFE Actual: FEFEFE7E CPU 6"?? I got realy many of them!
Without any logs or further information, it is hard to determine though it is likely faulty RAM. @@passmark Thanks for reply, I found out it was one off my ram sticks there is faulty! I took one of them out, "lucky enof the faulty one" in first try, and run the test against, and there was no error after about 40 minutes, didn run the full test, because it would take hours. But before the 10000 of error shows in the first minut, before Memtest86 just stopped! And I don't want to put the faulty ram stick back in, just to see.. I had got trouble with my pc the last 3~4 months, with all kind of blue screens of dead errors, the worst one of them was "Critical process died" I had to format my ssd and reinstall it all.. I had tryet all kind of troubleshooting, used really many hours and days on it! I tryet out Windows memory test multiple of times, but it didn say there was any errors at all, typical for Windows troubleshoot program, not working. But Memtest86 did, and it seems to have solvet my problem 🙏. I get a new Ram Kitt tomorrow, and sending the old ones back on warranty, they are just a little under a year old! But one of the first thing I'm gonna do with the new Ram kit, is doing a test, to make sure they are not faulty.. I hope I don't get any more computer problems in the future, it had being really enoing and frustrating process, but seeing it from the good side I had learned allot, about computer crab LOL..
Thanks for the update, we are glad to hear MemTest86 helped to identify the issue!

whats the difference b/w free and paid version?
Hello! You can view a full comparison table here: www.memtest86.com/compare.html
how does this work with windows 11? the UEFI is completely different
Hello! Yes, the UEFI will look different depending on your system. Most systems have an optional boot menu that is enabled be pressing a key at start up (often ESC, F9, F11 or F12) similar to the following: then select the correct drive. More details here: www.memtest86.com/tech_booting-memtest.html
Hey I have 2 problem
1)there are 2 bootable USB shown in boot menu I tested both and they are Same , please tell me reason why 2 shown and which one 2 select
2)I have old system running dual core and ddr2 system running perfectly fine but you test cannot proceed and system restarts automatically again and again
In my legion laptop everything is working fine as its new generation Machine (same usb tried on old system and legion)
Hope you understand my query
1) The two boot menu options are the same. Different UEFI BIOSs from different companies search for and display the boot options in different ways. On some motherboards you might be one option (or the other) and on some you get both options.
2) The current version of Memtest86 only works on machines with UEFI BIOS (i.e. pretty much all computers made in the last 10 years are OK). If you have an older machine, with traditional BIOS, then you need to use the old V4 MemTest86 software.
@@passmark can I have the link for the older version
Hi @@prabhatkumarrajput6281! You can download Memtest86 V4 from the bottom of this page: www.memtest86.com/download.htm
I read somewhere that even if there is 1 error then the RAM is faulty, is this true?
Hello! Please be aware that not all errors reported by MemTest86 are due to bad memory. The test implicitly tests the CPU, L1 and L2 caches as well as the motherboard. It is impossible for the test to determine what causes the failure to occur. However, most failures will be due to a problem with memory module. More information on errors here: www.memtest86.com/troubleshooting.htm#errors
Hi, I have black screen when the software start the test. I can navigate through settings but I cannot start the test

@@passmark tried again and now works but it take a long time to start and really overheats the cpu
Hello, thanks for following up! Glad to hear that you got the test running, hopefully it is helpful in detecting any issues you might have with your PC memory.
Hello! Thank you for your comment. Is MemTest86 reporting any errors? Are all power cables seated properly?
Sorry to hear that you are unable to boot into Memtest86. It sounds like Memtest86 may not have been installed properly to the USB. Is it possible to try the install process again?
@@passmark I followed your video completely, but I will try again. ALso, I notice in your video your bios or UEFI bios looks different than mine. I have a Asus tuf motherboard and it doesn't look like that.
@@passmark I know there is not much info to go on, but do you think it could be the ram instead of the psu and just do a RMA on my ram just for the hell of it to see if it is the ram? Also, I forgot to mention that when not gaming my pc work just fine and it doesn't shutdown on its own. So I can watch video, movies and do work without any problem. So I don't know why though. P.S. my psu is thermaltake 850 watts gold and my ram is corsair vengeance rbg pro duel stick 32gb 3200mhz.

Hello! To start MemTest86 insert the USB flash drive into the appropriate drive and restart your computer. It says image failed and click "ok"
Hello. Is this while using the ImageUSB application? Are you using the latest download available from www.memtest86.com/download.htm
I'm guessing that if my pc won't boot off the usb that means it probably failed. Well I guess as long as it's still running for the most part I'll worry about the crashes later.
Hello! Can you see your USB in the the UEFI BIOS when trying to boot?
@@passmark Yes I can see it, but when I try to boot it doesn't work. The flash drive is old but working and the installation appeared to go well so I'm not really sure what I did wrong or if that just means something in my system is really messed up
@@ghqebvful Did anything appear/load on the screen once selecting the USB? If so, could you please send us the MemTest86 logs - info@passmark.com
If not, did it just return to the BIOS/boot menu straight away? If this is the case, the install to the USB might have failed - you can try installing on another USB.
Lastly, also check that you are running in UEFI mode in BIOS.
@@passmark When I tried to boot it nothing happened and when I set it first in boot order it went to windows, so it might be the USB failed. I'll have to try to find another at some point, thanks for checking in though. I was just going to assume something in the computer probably messed up worse than i hoped (which still maybe the case) but since it isn't too often it crashes I can still get by okay.

How about legacy bios?
You can download Memtest86 V4 from the bottom of this page: www.memtest86.com/download.htm
V4 was the last version that supports old style (non-UEFI) BIOS.
UEFI was started to be introduced in the year 2006. So there should only be a few old machines still around that need to use V4.
@@passmark Yes, I try it too. Write flash with imageUSB.exe and this flash is not bootable..
@@evgenyivanov4838 Could be that you didn't select the correct boot device in BIOS. Or that flash drive is bad. Or computer itself is broken to the point where it can't boot. Or you didn't make the bootable flash drive correctly.
