Good Morning Pilates Routine! 10 Minute Standing Pilates to improve posture.| No Equipment Needed

  • This is a lovely 10 minute standing morning energising routine to get you moving and ready for your day. It will improve your posture with regular practice too. You can do this workout anywhere, at home or on holiday. It's a simple, effective Pilates routine, explained clearly and at a steady pace so you can do it along with me. I recommend it be done daily to keep you feeling fit and flexible wherever you are. Enjoy!

    Hallo Rachel my husband and I are both in our sixties, I've done pilates before but stopped during lockdown . He and I started with your videos for seniors, have loved doing them, and are so enjoying the standing pilates. Would it be possible to have more senior mat videos? Or isn't it necessary to do the mat....we aren't sure which are suitable and he is very stiff and needs to become more flexible. Thank you so much for your wonderful videos , we love your friendly and informative manner!

    I love,love, love all your videos. You are by far and away the best on You Tube, having tried many, many other pilates videos, yours are clear, well paced, informative and work. The difference in my constant back pain after 3 months of doing your videos is amazing, I'm so much more aware of my body, my core and how it supports my back and that is all thanks to you.

      THIS: 'You are by far and away the best on You Tube, having tried many, many other pilates videos, yours are clear, well paced, informative and work.' First time I actually have not come to 'dread' an exercise routine. I can execute these without feeling like a plank (although I am one, have been since puberty), the duration is perfect, and the instructions and pacing are simply ACE. Can't recommend highly enough. Rachel is a gem, and her strength and elegance inspire me every day.

    Totally love your videos. Been working with beginner exercises and I honestly feel very good after doing them. For me, what makes your videos stand out from the hundreds of others on UA-cam is the calm and easy way in which you explain the movements and the breathing patterns that go with them. Simply fabulous! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and skills. I would really love to attend one of your sessions when I visit London!
    Could I make a request? My physiotherapist has advised that I build shoulder strength to avoid my frequent shoulder and neck pain. Could you please post a video on pilates exercises for it?
    Also, the other day I was doing the workout you explained in your video "10 minute Pilates to build strength". At the end of it, however, my wrists were hurting very bad. Are there any stretches/exercises I could do to avoid/minimise the pain?

      Hello there Cho, Thank you very much for your message. Great to hear you are enjoying the videos and my teaching. You'd be very welcome to join class in London when you visit! Thanks for your request - a video with Pilates exercises to build shoulder strength- leave it with me and I'll put something together and film it in the next few weeks. In the meantime, have you seen my Video Tutorial 'How to do a Press Up For beginners'? This will be helpful for you as it explains a modification that will help you build strength in your arms and shoulders without doing a full press up. Also, do check out my Madeira workout called '10 Minute Full Body Pilates for Toned, sculpted body. It's very much focused on upper body work so a good one for you to try. With regard to your wrist pain, this is quite common and is usually simply because the wrists are not used to the weight bearing, if this happens in class I suggest to a client to either rest for a moment and come back to it, or if they are able to, to go down onto their elbows. It's a case of building your strength slowly and it may be that right now it's a little too much for your wrists. My suggestion is keep trying but when you feel the discomfort, transfer the weight down onto your elbows if you can or rest, do another video and come back to it. As with all exercise, it takes time to build strength. Good luck and I'll start working on ideas for a Shoulder strength and neck release video. Best wishes, Rachel

      Thanks so much Rachel. I'm eagerly awaiting the shoulder strength video!
      I did try the exercises in your video 'How to do a Press Up For beginners'. Initial 2-3 reps were great. I did a total of maybe 6-8 reps and all was fine.. until my shoulder started hurting the next day. I guess I either need to do only 2-3 at a time and simultaneously focus on more basic shoulder strengthening exercises. A quick question - how many reps in a session is recommended to see some results on the arms? Also, how frequently should they be done?
      I haven't yet tried the exercises in '10 Minute Full Body Pilates for Toned, sculpted body' video. I'm looking forward to do them this week. Will also try out the elbow technique to take the weight off the wrists. Maybe doing a few reps on elbow and wrists each would help to ensure that I don't miss out on the exercise!

      @@choh6876 Hello Cho, it sounds like you might have just overdone it a little with the press ups. They are a very strong exercise and if you're shoulders are not used to weight-bearing they can really feel it if you do too much too soon. So your idea is perfect, just build up slowly. I always say a few well executed repetitions is much more beneficial that lots with an incorrect technique as it's important to work the muscles in the right way and avoid overworking or straining the joints. So you have exactly the right idea, just do 2 or 3 and keep doing that until it starts to feel easier then add another and so on. For seeing results in the arms, you want to be doing the exercises 3 -4 times a week- consistency is the key to seeing results.Mixing it up with some on the elbows and some on the wrists will also help build your core strength and shoulder stability.     I've been forced to do physical therapy my entire life (I was born with mild Cerebral Palsy), and this is the first time in 32 years that exercise is not painful torture, I actually enjoyed it, and I can actually see it having a positive impact.     I have been doing a lot of Zumba mini trampolining for 4 years now, at various times I’ve had inflammation on different parts of my body. Last Saturday out of the blue I had a dreadful pain in my side and was unable to sit down without assistance, I took the usual medication paracetamol and ibuprofen until Tuesday when I had to see the doctor. He said I was doing the right thing taking pain killers along with certain exercises to stretch the muscle in my hip that’s been affected , I have come to realise along with these cardio work outs your body needs more care than just getting your heart rate up , although very important but at the moment I’m looking like I’ve been in an accident crippled in pain . I am even so sore I’m only doing the littlest of your clips ten minutes or so , frightened to get down on the floor in case I can’t get back up . I am nearly 60 but a fit sixty . Thank you 🙏 I’m doing your videos every morning on the road to my recovery, I feel it will be something I will carry on with

      Hello Janice, Thank you for your message. I am so sorry to hear about your inflammation and pain, it must be so awful for you. But how wonderful though that you have realised that your body needs other movement alongside your cardio work, I am really pleased to hear that. I often say to people that " Pilates is the glue which holds my body together so I can do all the activities I want to' In my case that's dance, jazz, tap, ballet and the occasional charleston! As we get older we can still do all those things we just have to make sure we work a little more at body conditioning and core strength as the wear and tear of an active life becomes more apparent. I can hear how fearful you are, and I support you wholeheartedly in your journey back to full recovery. As you start to regain your confidence I would recommend you try my Beginner Pilates tutorials 1-4. They will really help the hip as the core strength you will gain will stabilise and strengthen that part of your body. In the meantime, keep going with the daily 10 minute standing workouts as each day will help you grow in strength and flexibility. I'm with you all the way. Take care, Rachel 😊

    Since the pandemic, I have not been able to stay at my gym. It's been a few weeks that I have been doing your Pilates work out. My first love is Yoga, but you have been a nice change and it's good to be off the floor. Just subscribed today. I got into Ti chi and Quong also is great after or before my workouts. Love your accent and the different backgrounds. Having a background as a dancer is what gave me the confidence to do your classes. Been working out for many years. I will be 84 next month.     I really enjoyed that less than 12 minute morning stretch! You are truly a blessing Rachel🌷 I almost did everything as instructed. The part where the feet slightly to the sides bending the knees & squatting (timing 7.27 I think) is very very difficult. My knees stayed in the front instead of on the sides. I suppose that’s part of my osteoarthritis hips. What exercise do you recommend to widen the opening of my legs? I’ll definitely will do this exercise daily. Thanks again🌹.

      Hi Veronica, glad you enjoyed this session. I’d turn your feet in until you’re able to bend the knees and they go over the toes as we need to look after your knees especially as you have osteoarthritis in the hips. I wouldn’t go too wide with legs but you can certainly widen them for comfort. Take care 😊

    All the way from Long Island New York USA, thank you for these standing Pilates classes! I have titanium rods in my back, and arthritis, these classes have helped me greatly. I do them about 4 days a week, and if I miss a day I do it before bed. Thank you, stay safe .

    I love this routine, I’ve been doing it after a little yoga, and I just feel wonderful, warmed up, and limber when I’m done. I’m 68 and thrilled that this leaves me feeling good and essentially without any discomfort in the places that sometimes ache - especially my shoulders. Thank you!

    I really enjoy doing this routine. I only started doing pilates a few weeks ago, as although I need to lose weight, my joints are a bit stiff! So l usually start off with this one first thing. I feel like it has helped me so much, even in my mind! I have had a bad back this last week, so have just started doing your gentle back exercises and feel much better, thank you Rachel x

    I have been doing Pilates / body balance for number of years, It is great to start the day with a wake up routine for the body and mind during lockdown, I also continue through the day. Thank you i will continue to workout with you everyday.
