    Hi Frank, just want to say thank you for the awesome advice you provide. Recently I’ve been traveling out of town for work and stay out 4 to 5 days. I am free feeding 100% barley while I’m away and 15% once a day the days I’m home… and let me tell you I’ve NEVER seen or feel my birds this great. I truly appreciate what you’ve done for us.

    Hi Frank,
    Russell Ruybal here, great to see you sharing your knowledge. It starts with a solid foundation, I flew in the Foothills Racing Pigeon Club, in Colorado. In my last year flying birds I won every race. I bred some champ's from some breeders I got from you at The Highlander one loft race. I crossed them with my Jan Aarden blood. I no longer have birds, it is great to see you doing what you love. In the sport, Russell Ruybal

      I can guarantee you are feeding the pigeons feed that is too rich in protein and too much feed. Your pigeons are way too heavy. All these fancy mixes are beautiful and great for raising babies but terrible for racing. Watch this series of videos and you will go to the next level and start winning big. ua-cam.com/play/PLfjpm1Kc9E0UkXcdnfTrnV_VKTkfNozbt.html

    I listened to this while training my birds this morning. Another great video. As a runner, I've always been taught that you should go for an short and easy run the day after a long race (half or full marathon). I've always thought that would be the same for our warriors of the sky and let them loft fly the day after a race. What is your thoughts on this and why would our birds be different in this regard? Thanks

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  11 місяців тому +1

      Hi James, Hard to compare us to pigeons. With experience I have been able to have only two short flights in two weeks between long distance races and the pigeons dominate. Maybe because the bird must fly within the loft from the perch to the flight pen to the feeder to the perch gives the wings enough movement. They are making short flights constantly inside the loft. Maybe this offers some benefit during rest.

    Frank, when you add barley, must it be hulled? Malt? Or the least expensive one with the hull on?
    Thanks, your expertise is much appreciated

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  5 місяців тому

      Barley must be in the hull. Any good pigeon grain dealer should sell it. Do not buy from breweries. They get the barley ready for beer production and then the sugar content goes up.

    good day sir do you use brewer yeast all year round? Or just when you are going to race? And how often?

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  Рік тому

      I only use the brewers yeast during the race season. I put the oil on the feed and add the yeast until the grain will not hold anymore yeast. You could do it weekly year round if you want but it is not necessary.

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons

      Yes you can move the pigeons to celibate after being mated. I let my birds mate after the race season and then race celibate the following year.

    Can you explain the cutting and pulling flights thing , in detail . Never heard of this , have no idea what it does . Why do it ? Does it delay dropping of flights , when should it be done ? ....etc

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  Рік тому +1

      I will do a video just on cutting and pulling flights. Also how to delay the dropping of the flight. At the end of the season our birds are usually molting the 9th and 10th flight. It is better to cut off the tip off the 9th and 10th flight in the spring. Pull the 9th flight two weeks after cutting the tip and when the flight is 3/4 grown in pull the 10th flight. When the big races arrive later in the season the birds will not be molting these important power flights. You must be very careful not to put pressure on the quill at the base of the flight or the flight will not grow back correctly.

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons

      Usually I like to train or race on Saturday and then maybe Tuesday and Thursday. I hope to fly one 60 mile truck training with the group and another 35 mile toss on my own so they get about three flights per week. I keep the body weight right by feeding correctly with the depurative once a day.

      De Rauw Sablon is a family of pigeons. I have not seen a solid white bird become a champion but there have been many excellent white breeders and racers. There are so few whites compared to blues and checkers so odds might be about the same for a white champion or a blue champion.

      Jan Aarden has been gone a long time but there are some pigeons bred down from the Jan Aarden birds that are still good very. Pure or straight Jan Aarden that are successful would be nearly impossible to find.
