I live in an HOA. had a complaint made by a neighbor. contacted AU but wasn't much help. I went to my primary care physician and had them right a letter stating my flock is used as a support (not service animal) animal. HOA cant touch them and I am still a happy flier
Ok frank i watch it and your not telling me how far i have to go with the traing them if i get them out 50 miles do i stop and how many times do i need to do that i am looking for a training schedule from your way
Just heard your interview on the Victoria Falls podcast which led me to your video here. Very incite full and useful information. Great way to support our sport. Thanks for sharing and hope to see you in Africa in the near future.
I remember one time you mentioned how great feather quality was hereditary. I have a pair that have great silky soft feathering. When I paired them their young ones had great feathering. I noticed the difference compared to the other pair that had the same age babies that had the same feed and minerals. So i think given the same feed and minerals the genetics can make a difference. Thanks for the live video Frank.
You are right that feather quality is genetics. You do need good nutrition to assist but you cannot create great feather with special feed or supplements.
What is the right way to young birds training I am have a hard time getting them out and how far do I need to get them out so I an start race August 29
Get them out to 60 miles before the first race. You have time. Go all directions out to 10 miles then train down the race course. You can get some super tips in these two videos: ua-cam.com/video/ZC1vv0u2TmQ/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/j0cJXM_C6BY/v-deo.html
I have a hen I imported last year she is a 2022 bird and she never laid an egg last year and still nothing this year yet either Last year I tried the 10 day enrofloxacin treatment and that didn't work I fostered eggs from another pair under her and let her raise them to see if it would jumpstart her but didn't work so now I am trying the KM-1 salmonella vaccine you talked about doing 1ml 2x per week just gave her the first injection yesterday (Saturday)
Try some Black Seed Oil. I have a video on my channel about Black Seed Oil. There is a ton of research on it for use in commercial poultry and in China's squab industry. Egg production is one of the benefits.
@@Rev792 It could happen. I have a Roller cock here ( I know he's a cock because he's Ash Red with black ticking and therefore heterozygous for Blue/Black), but he is ten years old and has never mated with a hen or produced offspring, be it in an individual coop or open loft. He's one of the last two birds from a friend's line that was heavily inbred for 35 years. He will, of course, mate with a cock and sit a nest tight enough to incubate fostered eggs and feed young. So it definitely happens. I'm pretty sure that if I dissect him when he finally dies of old age, I'm going to find that his plumbing is pretty abnormal.
love the videos could you tell me you say you give your birds a 1days rest after a certain time on the wing from a race and increase the days the longer the flight thanks
My pigeons get one day of total rest for every two hours on the wing. 100 miles they get one day of no flying or exercise. 500 miles they may get six or seven days of total rest but during the rest they are on the light feed with mostly barley. If I fed heavy feed during the rest the birds would be too heavy to compete. My long distance pigeons only have two flights in a 14 day period between long distance races and do super.
thanks again Frank, we only have 16% and 17% pigeon feed here in Hawaii, what should I add during my young bird season to get them to come into form prior to road training?

Hi Frank, could we get your opinion on eyesign in a video. Do you look at it at all? If so, what’s important to you? How does eyesign factor in your books compared to other physical features like throat, tail, wing etc. Do you consider it when pairing up birds? Racing eye and breeding eye, thanks.
I should do a video on eyesign. I do not pay much attention to Eyesign anymore. I like opposite eye colors mated together and like pupils get very small in the sun. I like rich colored eyes. I talk about eyesign in the last few minutes of yesterdays video.
When you want the birds to start flying strong add 50% barley. Safflower is good for recovery and long distance fat loads. I can send you my feeding system if you email me. Frank@McLaughlinLofts.com
I do not study the throat but have a good understanding of the throat. You can find the birds with the best immune systems because sickness ruins the throat on a pigeon.
Frank, keep these coming. Hopefully people are keeping notes! By the way, I get good barley for 14 per #50. Do you think it has much value in the breeding mix? By stark contrast, we pay 45 a #50 for a 17.5% mix bagged by Volkmann in Ceres, CA. The 17.5 includes three types of peas, red wheat, popcorn, milo, safflower and a small amount of millet and flax seed and does a good job for the breeders, but it would be nice to cut it with another grain that brings the price down. If you did cut it with barley, what percentage would you add?
Hey Kerby, I am not a fan of barley in the breeding mix. Saying that, years ago I raised babies before the race season on Depurative from Vesele Laga and the babies were super. Feed can be so expensive but you may add a feeder full of chicken pellets and they may eat 5% to 10% Chicken Lay Pellets. You can also cut the feed with 15% dog food but find a small kibble and this is less expensive than pigeon grain but adds protein, calcium and fats to the feed.
Hi Frank. My club YB race season is 6 weeks long. How far into the race season should I keep my young birds in the dark system? Also, is it a must to extend light after darken period or they will start to mold again? Thanks.
I would keep them on the dark only two weeks into your season. Run the lights close to 18 hours a day after that with natural sunrise. Do go to a normal day after the season. You can always pull a few wing flights in the winter if they do not finish the wing molt.
@@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons If I do not extend light after the darken period, will they start to molt again within the 4 weeks from end of darken to the last race? Thanks again.
If you do not extend the light they should be Okay for a few weeks. I would keep them on the dark three weeks into the season and then go to natural light.
Hello Frank, thank you for the video. One question I am using your feed and train method since last year ,I am happy We fly betewen island about 167 mile . To 450 miles over sea This year Ihave changed clubs, the shippin day is friday and they are relase on Sunday. The pigeons on saturday eats only corn inthe basket. Can this affect the systen 80% barley,20% sport ??
Do not worry about feeding on the truck. The pigeons will be fine. My birds eat on the truck for long distance. Feed extra fat seeds on shipping day for long races over the sea so they do not eat too much on the truck. They will be great for the race.
Hi sir frank, you mentioned you feed 6 days of light barley mix a week including loading day. When do you consider start feeding rich mix 2 days before liberation. I mean at what distance.
Hello, For 400 miles and above I will give fat seeds the day of shipping if the race looks normal or maybe eight to nine hour flight. A longer flight then that I may feed fat seeds the evening before shipping and day or shipping.
After the body molt is complete and the birds are separated I feed whole corn (maize) and Chicken Lay Pellets through the winter to all pigeons. I give two corn to one chicken pellet.
Hi Frank What are your thoughts on birds that are tame in the loft. The one's that jump on your back dont get scared when you approach them or walk past them. The ones that just seem there talking to you just by looking at you. Are they in your race team or as stock birds.. and have they been exceptional birds a bit more special than the others?
I have had only a couple tame birds. Maybe because I do not spend enough time with them. The few in my career that would land on me were no so much fun if I ran in loft with a dress shirt on heading to an event or something. Usually the ones that protect their territory are the best. They defend the nest, perch or box but you never know.
Most of my pigeons are free matings. I let them pick their own mates. Works great. I have several breeding lofts and sections within the lofts. I can move pigeons around if I do want to change a mating that did not work out. I do use individual pens for special pairs for sale.
Hi Frank, i paired two pigeons and they do lay eggs and they do incubate in turns. However the cock seems not very cling to its nest and another cock entering the nest box and he just cooing at a distance without chasing it away, what is this situation ? how should i treat
That is a tough one. Some pigeons are timid and do not fight or fight for territory. You may want to try the pair in an individual box. Shut their nest box and let them raise a round separated from the others. When you put them back to the nest box they will be more bonded and protect the nest.
Hello Frank thoughts on birds that come home a month after the race. Appears to have survived in the wild. Came back out of shape and rough. Would you put some weight into it or just fly it again as an old bird.
I have had lost pigeons that live wild come home and become super racers. I think there immune system gets stronger and they never want to be out in the wild again. Race the bird. You may be surprised with the results.

Hello Matt, I have never used those products. I am not sure. I would not give them too strong or to often. You can certainly overload minerals if you put them in the water. I like the minerals to be free choice. Nature knows what it needs for minerals and my pigeons can take what they need.
I let my pigeons nest on the floor, big mistake every time yangs one’s coming down to eat they’re got chased out, and never again I will let them do that !

Hey frank what’s the shelf life on vaccines?
If kept in the fridge they are good six months or more past expirations dates. The expiration dates are very conservative.
They put diatomaceous earth in the pellets for an anti caking agent
I must check on this. Thank you!
I think I’ve seen this on the ingredient list as well.
What are your thoughts on brewers yeast?
I like brewers yeast on the feed after the feed is coated with Flax Seed Oil. Once a week for the race team is excellent.
