Envious here, I am around 125 on the Kickstarter list, and shipping to Canada will take more time then a personal drop off. Anyway, my case will not use one of my 3 NTSC A500 mobo's, it will contain a version 6, Pal A500, that is pretty much an A500 Plus, yet with WB 1.3 instead of 2. Also, I did pick up that wonderful ACA500 accelerator board last year that will now be kept internally in this case...can't wait really. Fantastic support for the Amiga community Stephen!

Stephen has done a fantastic job! I think it's a stroke of genius making this case so modular too, especially the support for PC motherboards too. A very smart way of maximizing sales. I would go with an A500/500+ to start with. I guess it stems back to the original Checkmate case purpose (I think) and I guess it's desireable to fit a 500 into a big box case.

Thanks for the kind words about the PCBs :) I'd just like to point out a couple of things for clarity: First, you *can* use both slots at the same time, provided the cards don't require DMA. Most cards don't to be honest - you should quite happily be able to run an ACA500Plus and a Zorro graphics card, Buddha, network card or whatever in the top slot. It's mostly SCSI controllers that use DMA really...
Second thing, the smaller power supply board without the Zorro slots - it looks like you got one of Steve's prototypes :) The finished versions don't have those funny patch components stuck on them.

This reminded me that this project existed.
I've never seen an Amiga before, but the whole story behind the checkmate case fascinated me, and come to find out that there's a new version of that case in the works. It interested me enough to follow for awhile, but I just lost track of it.
As someone who's looking at it from the perspective of a modern slim case? not counting the price of shipping it to the States, this thing doesn't cost much more then a Silverstone with much the same features and probably lower build quality. This in black would make a *very* nice replacement for the adequate but limited Dell SFF Server/internet machine I have currently.
I have a 3D printer, so making a custom faceplate to use for an aux display of some kind or God-Knows-what-else would be all sorts of neat, too.

    Great video, @RetroManCave!
I'd put the best emulator system with the most horsepower available so that ALL levels of Commodore, Amiga computer systems could be emulated, personally.
Add in the suggested DVD drive if you have a PC under the hood so you can load software from ROM files, or switch over XBMC or Windows Media Center for multimedia output.
Personally, I'd like to see a custom boot front end for launching a set of favorite systems, defaulting to load one of the Amiga PCs - maybe go with the developer's 500 by default - after a countdown of say 15 seconds.
Then a secondary page would be selectable that would take you to the full list of emulated systems.
This is how I would do it.

I want one so bad. Sad I missed the kickstarter, but eagerly awaiting them available on his store! Going to put an A500 in it and then start expanding. =D

I've never heard of a 500 plus plus before that sounds like a good board to put in there 🙂

An A1200 is going in mine, case is here just waiting for the power supply to arrive... might need some longer floppy cables too.

Well done Stephen, and congrats Neil. I couldn't bring myself to cannibalise an Amiga, so I vote for either a *broken* A500 (where the case is too far gone), or an Amiga clone.

Early Mac II desktops aside (full and half length versions) the A3000 definitely had the best looking desktop case around.

That's very interesting. I actually did something similar with the Raspberry Pi that I use to emulate vintage computers (as opposed to consoles).
I made my case out of an old PC surge protector. It is a beige box with roughly the same footprint as a desktop PC case, but it is not as tall.
I made a pair of Atari standard joystick interfaces by hacking a couple of gamepads, so it has traditional joystick ports. Hooked up to a keyboard, monitor and mouse, it really feels like I'm using an old computer rather than a modern single board computer.

All the packaging is recyclable, no plastic (apart from the bag) and no polystyrene. Nice touch

I needed this case in 96 when I was moving my 1200 into a PC case because it was too hot and would fail with an accelerator and scsi card on it.

Very nice. I got several amigas laying around that could use a new box (2xA1200 and a A500 and C-128D). But i lack authentic monitors or old crt tv to assemble them in something like this. Would love to assemble a pc in that , but the shield havbe taken over the job that my old mediacenters did before.

I just bought an Amiga 2000 with just a case and a motherboard (lots of battery acid, all socketed chips raided), so my crazy plans for this box needs taking care of before I dare look at other cases :)
Although it is kind of a neat mATX box I could use for a Linux box.
