Sadly the older parts in Part 1 are affected the least but the further you go the better it gets. So for example that’s why we already got 2 similar in origin characters in 'Star Rail' itself, they are from different 'Galaxies', or if you want to say different 'Worlds', within HSR and The Single Imaginary Tree Universe (宇宙) as a whole. And, as you can guess, Star Rail is by far the largest in scale when it comes to these concept with(in) The Imaginary Tree Universe in Hoyoverse games. Tho HI3 Part 2 is starting to gain momentum. Lots of lore and characters to explore for the writers in stories as game's new versions goes on, many things is planned for HSR already, yeah
Jing Yuan stealing chess pieces: I think the idea is that he's cheating by stealing Yanqing (the person he's playing against)'s pieces but personally even I'm not sure lol. Seems in character for him though! Blade's voice actor: Daman Mills! Kafka's trailer's music: this does sample (and honestly is heavily based on) Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" but Vivaldi's music has indeed become public domain, since he died more than... 50 years ago, I believe, is the measure. Claiming classical music like this as your own original stuff is still a bit of a a-hole move to do, of course, but "Four Seasons" is well known enough that I doubt HYV would be catching any slack for it LOL. (coming from a classically trained violinist :)) 26:54 - close! Dan Heng! As for why... no spoilers :D Topaz's trailer: People love to hide in the trash because the trash cans have lore. I kid you not. You can interact with them. They have dialogue. Huohuo - you can consider her an exorcist, kinda! Except. Well. She'd really rather not be there. The dog you see in the 1.6 trailer is NOT Polka Kakamond. His name is Peppy, and he is a treasure. Dr Ratio wears an alabaster head because he cannot stand to see idiots (I wish I was joking) Sparkle's trailer: she's playing Russian roulette with herself (?). There were actually bullets in that gun! As for why there's multiple of her, there's a LOT of theories going on, but most of them need spoilers to explain, so I'll refrain from explaining anything for now! I have avoided answering most questions you asked during version trailers (as well as some during big lore-heavy character trailers like Imbibitor Lunae and Jingliu), as they really do touch on some spoilers. You've got a good eye for details to spot! Hope this comment was helpful, and sorry if I forgot to answer anything / provided an answer that you'd already known!
HSR has a free 5star for about the next 6 weeks so I’d definitely recommend looking into it! You said you’re not done with Inazuma yet so there’s definitely a lot of Genshin story you’ve got left. (A lot of good things imo! But I wouldn’t recommend trying to speedrun bc besides the main story you’re going to have a huge amount of world to explore, and imo Genshin’s done a lot to make the exploration process more interesting, expanding on some of the things they started experimenting with in Inazuma imo.) Plotwise for HSR I think the second major arc felt a bit rushed, but for the most part it’s been pretty good and they’ve def learned and improved. (There are also p consistently QoL updates too!) That said, definitely go with whoever’s trailers you like most!
Great vid you’re kinda on point with a lot of things! I hope you react to the myriad celestia trailers (2d character/lore trailers basically) and the anime shorts, there are some bangers especially the most recent anime short with Acheron and Black Swan
The moment to moment story telling in HSR is better on average than Genshin. That said so far there are only a few parts that rival the best parts of Genshin's plot. Basically Genshin has higher highs but also lower lows. HSR is pretty consistently solid, plot-wise. All of that said, Genshin only gets better post Inazuma with a steady rise. On the other hand HSR is still pretty new and 2.0 has a great setup.
The piece that Jing Yuan removed can actually be seen at the start. When he places the leaf on the board you can see his other hand removing it. It's one of his own pieces and the point of the move was to let Yanqing, the kid he's playing against, win the game.
Honkai lore is very complex though the HI3 and HSR lore is separate there's plenty in either to enjoy. That said, the devs LOVE to put hints from HI3 in Star Rail both via characters that look like them or actual references and the stuff about Archeron(upcoming character) are a really good example since she looks like Mei Raiden from HI3. As for trash cans, its something of a meme in that the Trailblazer(the player) likes to open trash cans and the devs really go heavy on that meme. As for Ruan Mei, she actually wants to become a god, wich should u tell u something about how ruthless she is. Dr Ratio is actually a 5 star they are still giving away for free, so don't wait to long with diving into the game.
This is actually a great time to start Honkai Star Rail. It is about to have its anniversary and still have Dr Ratio given for free as long as you have the mail feature. The story has also gotten to penacony but even before that, it’s full of fun events. It also has some fun references to pop culture that are great. It also has great music. Another point, we’re about to have a great banner selection in 2.1. A top healer, incredible shielder, and two of the top dps characters of the game
Hey! You missed a couple videos XD, some of the best ones to be honest that came out a couple weeks ago lol. I would recommend watching them when you can.
1:25 Jing Yuan's english VA is actually Alejandro Saab/CyYu He also voices Cyno in Genshin and I believe the cloud knight enemies in HSR as well as many other prominant characters in other franchises. Also, at 14:20, Blade is voiced by Daman Mills who also voices LYNEY from Genshin 💀
The leaf in Jing Yuan's trailer is a gingko leaf. It symbolizes vitality (among other things). The immortal Mara-struck enemies that attacked Jing Yuan have gingko branches growing out of their bodies. Jingliu's trailer will also feature gingko leaves.
Yes! I’ll do a video watching those and also watching the animations too at some point! A friend said it’s best to play the game for a bit before watching the Myriads though?
@@ChocolateKieran well, myriad trailers are "lore" trailers, so yeah, you would understand them more after playing for a while. But they are still pretty cool
Jingliu is voiced by the vtuber amalee Blade is voice by the person who voiced frieza Jing Yuan the man from the first trailer is voiced by the vtuber CyuCyu who also voices Shallot in DBL
Genshin story really picks up after Liyue. And after Inazuma, it starts becoming mindblowing. Similarly, Starrail story is also slow at first. But the story really picks up in the latest patch (Penacony) it really starts picking up and it's a great time to start playing.
Story and writing-wise, Genshin and HSR can't be compared side by side as they are different genres. Both are good in their own ways. Genshin has a more classical fantasy approach to storytelling and HSR leans on a more science fantasy space opera story.
47:57 Hello from Japan, let me tell you that Sparkle's JP VA, Reina Ueda, also acts Ganyu in Genshin Impact. If you get interested in her, please check her voice in Japanese version too!
Honkai: Star Rail player here. Acheron, Raiden Mei and Raiden Shogun all resembles lightning. They pretty much iconic. No spoilers but the story is pretty cool
I really hate when people who only reacted to honkai star rail character and start to think that they are related to genshin character like dude, just by the name there is no genshin or impact, the only game that can related to hsr is hi3 like welt he is in the hi3 and also one of important character, but what i want to said stop thinking that hsr character is genshin character they are different and never ever same, i still can take that Jung Yuan and zhongli are look alike but jungliu and eula dude eula is dancing while jingliu are doing some sword move
I never said they’re relayed, I’m pointing out character design similarities. You’re a liar if you say you don’t see the similarities between Raiden Shogun, Mei & Acheron for example. All three games use similar design philosophy and traits. Also I’ve reacted to and played Honkai Impact on my channel too. You’re taking what I’m saying far too seriously and getting upset over something that isn’t untrue. All three characters LOOK similar
No bc when i first saw Ryan Mei, I thought she would just be like, a sleepy genius that enjoys playing music, but nah she’s straight up an actual sociopath💀 “so she’s Dr. Hojo” yeah pretty much😭
Argenti - The most beautiful knight in the galaxy who has his own film crew, spotlights and florist to supply thousands of rose petals. Isn't that wonderful!?
You seem to have had a lot of questions, and I’m a nerd: - Jing Yuan trailer: he is a general and strategist. Ginkgo leaves represent longevity in Chinese culture (if you did the Azhdaha quest in Genshin, the tree he’s sealed under is a ginkgo!). The monsters in the video have ginkgo growing out of them. The kid is his student - talented but often overconfident. Placing the ginkgo on the board is him acknowledging the monsters on the “chessboard”, so to speak. (I believe they’re playing xiangqi, which is very similar to chess - it’s a practice in strategy for his student.) At the end, he did in fact steal one of his student’s game pieces - you can see him toss it in the air as he walks offscreen. He did this to prove a point to his student - even if he knows all the “rules” of combat and warfare, only playing by the rules will lead him to a swift defeat at the hands of anyone willing to play dirty. Jing Yuan wins the game out of the hands of seemingly certain defeat by taking an action outside of the scope of the game. This is Jing Yuan’s favorite trick, and you see him pull it multiple times throughout HSR’s story. His words at the end are part of the lesson. “Only when you have forgotten it, will you be ready.” That is, only once he has learned how to break the rules of strategy and war will he be ready to actually put them into practice. - 1.1 trailer: in version trailers, character sections and plot sections should be taken separately from each other. SW and the museum have nothing to do with each other other than having come out in the same version. - Silver Wolf trailer: she’s playing HI3 as the character from HI3 that she is based on. Sort of, it’s complicated, someone who actually plays HI3 can explain it better. Also she can hack reality. - Luocha trailer: yeah we don’t know anything about him lmao join the club - Blade trailer: those flowers all throughout his trailer are spider lilies, a flower symbolizing death in East Asian cultures. They’re typically considered a bad omen and a harbinger of death, and legends state that they sprout from blood. His big attack towards the end of the trailer is actually designed to resemble one as well! As for the candle at the end that refused to go out… well, that’s Blade, and that’s all I’ll say on the matter. - Kafka trailer: Vivaldi’s Four Seasons (all four movements of which are referenced within the score, along with a couple other classical pieces) is long public domain; the only way old songs like that can be copyrighted is if the copyright is not on the song itself but on a specific performance or arrangement of it. Since HoYoMIX made their own remix/arrangement, it’s perfectly legal! And using classical music specifically is 100% intentional: Kafka’s character references and draws upon elements from classical music, psychology, and literary structure! So there’s a LOT to dissect in this trailer. Note the Rorschach-esque shapes throughout, references to hypnosis, the way she “plays” her enemies, the various “title cards” (Intermission, MacGuffin, Non-Linear Structure, Fin., etc) which are all either music terms or literary devices… - 1.3 trailer: perhaps the exact opposite of Lantern Rite, actually. Lantern Rite is fantasy Lunar New Year; this is a funeral. And a Lynx is a type of animal which primarily resides in cold temperate forest and mountain areas - the character is an arctic explorer! - Fu Xuan trailer: she’s a diviner. The “Omniscia” is what she uses to divine the future; its named is derived from the word “omniscient”, meaning “all-knowing”. Her design and methods reference many classical forms of divination in Chinese culture, such as trigrams! And Qinque’s final tile is a fish, which is her “lucky” hand, lol. - Topaz trailer: yes, the entire trailer is just her giving a keynote/lecture, lol. She works for the Interastral Peace Corporation as a debt collector (hence the chanting at the end), and is passing down her wisdom. One of the other trailers they put out is essentially just recruitment propaganda for the IPC, lol. And trash cans are a running gag in HSR, don’t worry about it XD - Huohuo trailer: her job is essentially exorcising/capturing spirits, with an occasional side of dealing with people who have gone insane due to a curse. - Dr. Ratio trailer: my man calculated the precise force and trajectory required to trick shot a piece of chalk off of several statues of himself in order to beat up an interdimensional being. King (also he’s free through the end of 2.1, so if you want to start playing HSR now’s a great time!) - Black Swan trailer: she can enter and manipulate memories. I think the trailer makes a lot more sense with that context - Sparkle trailer: she’s playing Russian roulette with herself! (Hence the title, Monodrama: a play with only one actor.) You’ll notice she’s using a six-shooter, fires five shots before the game begins, and then red-mask shoots four before the confrontation with white-mask, where she then forces white-mask to shoot her, blowing all five empty barrels on herself before handing it over to white-mask for the final shot - the live barrel. White-mask is forced to shoot - and we see her mask fall into the water and turn into Sparkle’s bicolor mask. There’s a *deep* undercurrent going on under all those bright lights and flashy, distracting special effects - much like Sparkle herself. :) also, red-mask calling herself Elation is calling herself a god.
Ruen Mei scares me bro, I love her design too, but her lack of a moral compass scares me. If you are interesting to her, then you are everything, but the moment you lose her interest, you might as well be dead. (I need to finish her story though, this is mostly a first impression from the beginning of her questline)
If you do plan to play HSR I recommend doing so rn or the next update Dr Ratio the math one you saw, the 5 star was given out FREE for all players as a gift So yea I’d recommend you join now at least to get him now
Most of the stuff past 1.2 doesn't make sense unless you have some basic understanding of the lore of HSR regarding Paths, Aeons, and the different factions. Each character is mostly characterized by which Aeon/Path(philosophy) they follow and/or which faction they belong to. This is unlike Genshin where each character is characterized by their region and occupation, which you can more easily understand by relating to real life examples.
@@ChocolateKieran I forced myself to get to the end of that story, then dropped the game because of how disappointing it was. I'm getting back into it now, to have something to do inbetween Star Rail patches. Thankfully the following area, the Chasm, is a VERY good exploration zone. But yeah, Inazuma was rough!

There are parts in Genshin story better than parts of HSR and vise versa, but if we compare latest parts I would say they are both good. And Inazuma was the most boring for me in Genshin tbh (at least the first 80% of it)
should totally give HSR a shot, you will quickly realize wether its for you or not, and if you decide to play it, its not full of bloated content so catching up is easy
@@ChocolateKieran Its just even known Genshin world - Honkai characters counterparts (in Genshin) are way further in origin compered to Honkai worlds characters, to the point of practically begin different people, cus of difference in the setting and lore (since Genshin is kinda its own separate deal), yet they still share a lot of similarities in their core ideas and themes.
Landou family siblings are named after tanks, who are named after big cats. Lynx, Gepard, Serval.
You are allowed to use old classical music freely as long as you either perform it yourself or get someone to perform it for you.
(coming from a classically trained violinist :))
26:54 - close! Dan Heng! As for why... no spoilers :D
Topaz's trailer: People love to hide in the trash because the trash cans have lore.
Dr Ratio wears an alabaster head because he cannot stand to see idiots (I wish I was joking)
Sparkle's trailer: she's playing Russian roulette with herself (?).
Amazing video ahaha I was really well entertained
HSR has a free 5star for about the next 6 weeks so I’d definitely recommend looking into it! You said you’re not done with Inazuma yet so there’s definitely a lot of Genshin story you’ve got left. (A lot of good things imo! But I wouldn’t recommend trying to speedrun bc besides the main story you’re going to have a huge amount of world to explore, and imo Genshin’s done a lot to make the exploration process more interesting, expanding on some of the things they started experimenting with in Inazuma imo.)
Plotwise for HSR I think the second major arc felt a bit rushed, but for the most part it’s been pretty good and they’ve def learned and improved. (There are also p consistently QoL updates too!) That said, definitely go with whoever’s trailers you like most!
The animated shorts Are also good, then there are the myriad celestia trailers which are mostly just lore dumps but are still really cool.
Blade looks like he is spawning the blue spider lily from demon slayer but red
Great vid you’re kinda on point with a lot of things! I hope you react to the myriad celestia trailers (2d character/lore trailers basically) and the anime shorts, there are some bangers especially the most recent anime short with Acheron and Black Swan
Ohh interesting! I’ll definitely be doing them both, either split into different videos or together but not quite sure yet ☺️
40:57 1.6 Trailblaze Interlude is very interesting for sure! Ruan Mei and Dr. Ratio is such complex characters.
(Ruan Mei can ruin me any time) Huh, what
The piece that Jing Yuan removed can actually be seen at the start. When he places the leaf on the board you can see his other hand removing it. It's one of his own pieces and the point of the move was to let Yanqing, the kid he's playing against, win the game.
i absolutely can’t wait for Acheron’s character trailer to come out, i just know it will even more hype than Mei (HI3) and Raiden (Genshin)’s trailers
Fun fact : Blade VA is the same as Lyney
Great video! If you start HSR you get a free Dr Ratio 5 star character. He's actually a really good single target DPS character!
Fun fact, did you know that Blade and Lyney have the same VA
I missed out on Sparkle, the first char in a while I was interested in.
Now I can take it easy on doing stuff for jade.
Hey! You missed a couple videos XD, some of the best ones to be honest that came out a couple weeks ago lol. I would recommend watching them when you can.
1:25 Jing Yuan's english VA is actually Alejandro Saab/CyYu
He also voices Cyno in Genshin and I believe the cloud knight enemies in HSR as well as many other prominant characters in other franchises.
Also, at 14:20, Blade is voiced by Daman Mills who also voices LYNEY from Genshin 💀
Not sure if anyone had said this already, but Blade is voiced by Daman Mills, aka Frieza
whats so good about hoyoverse is that they dont even copyright the music! they do everything of their own :0
The leaf in Jing Yuan's trailer is a gingko leaf. It symbolizes vitality (among other things). The immortal Mara-struck enemies that attacked Jing Yuan have gingko branches growing out of their bodies.
Jingliu's trailer will also feature gingko leaves.
FUN FACT: Blade's VA is also Lyney's ENG VA
Watch more trailers like myriad celestia, and stuff that would prolly convince you to play the game.
They have lore but they drop before the updates etc, they blindside us on purpose kinda@ChocolateKieran
funfack the voice of Lyney is de voice of Blade i think.
in english
Jingliu is voiced by the vtuber amalee
Blade is voice by the person who voiced frieza
Jing Yuan the man from the first trailer is voiced by the vtuber CyuCyu who also voices Shallot in DBL
your voice is really soothing to hear
I appreciate that, thank you! 😁
Star rail is a banger man
47:57 Hello from Japan, let me tell you that Sparkle's JP VA, Reina Ueda, also acts Ganyu in Genshin Impact. If you get interested in her, please check her voice in Japanese version too!
Honkai: Star Rail player here.
Acheron, Raiden Mei and Raiden Shogun all resembles lightning. They pretty much iconic.
No spoilers but the story is pretty cool
All I'll say is that for Silver Wolf, that IS her name. She has no parents on memory and thus no name to go by. So "Silver Wolf" became her name.
Looks like Blade's VA is Lyney
You want to pay royalty to Vivaldi? :D Awsome reaction, I like how you actually paid attention to the trailers, that's rare for some reason.
You have to hop in ASAP, it's their anniversary and they are giving away 30 pulls
wow dude has one joke for the whole reaction "this is that character from that piece of media"
It’s referencing for the sake of connecting with people in the comments who like what I like. Or pointing out obvious design similarities.
You seem to have had a lot of questions, and I’m a nerd:
- Jing Yuan trailer: he is a general and strategist.
- Luocha trailer: yeah we don’t know anything about him lmao join the club
- Blade trailer: those flowers all throughout his trailer are spider lilies, a flower symbolizing death in East Asian cultures.
Note the Rorschach-esque shapes throughout, references to hypnosis, the way she “plays” her enemies, the various “title cards” (Intermission, MacGuffin, Non-Linear Structure, Fin., etc) which are all either music terms or literary devices…
- 1.3 trailer: perhaps the exact opposite of Lantern Rite, actually.
And trash cans are a running gag in HSR, don’t worry about it XD
- Huohuo trailer: her job is essentially exorcising/capturing spirits, with an occasional side of dealing with people who have gone insane due to a curse.
- Dr. Ratio trailer: my man calculated the precise force and trajectory required to trick shot a piece of chalk off of several statues of himself in order to beat up an interdimensional being. King (also he’s free through the end of 2.1, so if you want to start playing HSR now’s a great time!)
- Black Swan trailer: she can enter and manipulate memories. I think the trailer makes a lot more sense with that context
- Sparkle trailer: she’s playing Russian roulette with herself!
If you do plan to play HSR I recommend doing so rn or the next update
Dr Ratio the math one you saw, the 5 star was given out FREE for all players as a gift
So yea I’d recommend you join now at least to get him now
Most of the stuff past 1.2 doesn't make sense unless you have some basic understanding of the lore of HSR regarding Paths, Aeons, and the different factions. Each character is mostly characterized by which Aeon/Path(philosophy) they follow and/or which faction they belong to.
This is unlike Genshin where each character is characterized by their region and occupation, which you can more easily understand by relating to real life examples.
"I stopped playing Genshin halfway through Inazuma"
Not even 30 seconds into the video, and you're already relatable
Wait, you did the same thing too?!
Funfact : Blade (this guy 14:09) has same EN voice actor as Lyney.
Jing Yuan and Cyno also has same voice actor
kieran to every character: " They're very cool!"
Literally, I can't fault it LOL
"This is so kpop thing"
Literally an American song
yeah an American song can give Kpop energy and vice versa though
Hsr lore is absolutely better bcs oc they refine the story for a newer game, but this became more good if you scrape all the lore bcs the background lore on this game is so good and btw you must see the myriad celestial trailer when you actually play
This isn’t just facts it’s an objective truth, HSR is also their most recent game so it’ll be very refined
The story of Honkai Star Rail is top tier but it starts a little calm and kinda boring for some people (that wasn't the case for me tho) but once you reach Penacony that's when the story really begins to be on a totally different level
I haven't played genshin story but for the majority of people who played both games they mostly agree that HSR story is better especially after Penacony
Definitely recommend you play it
Wasn’t that the person that helped the mermaid boy?
The guy's personification of randomness lmao love him
Lmao Kafka got compared with Madam Web kinda funny tbh🤣 it's like comparing gold worth to aluminium
I'm waiting for Sam to become playable.
I feel like you will like him a lot.
I wish I had a voice like the Cloud General.
If you would like to start HSR you have 2 days to get your free Dr. Ratio.
11:26
Lmao. Ig indeed madam could be safe if she's in it 😂
If you didn’t say you were in Inazuma I would have said Star Rail 100%. But the story in Sumeru and Fontaine are top tier, so I’d say it just depends on whether you like fantasy + open world or sci-fi + turn based more.
Where's the black Swan and Acheron ? We need them xD
why does he always relate everything to genshin
Did you... Not read the title. It was the entire point of this video LOL 😭 Somebody who played Genshin and their perspective on Honkai at first glance.
i know your a genshin fan tho, i remember watching you react to the genshin demos when you first started genshin and your other reactions to cinematics of other games, but like to me i dont see u as a “definite” genshin fan, so when i saw the title im not thinking of a Genshin stan always relates everything to genshin, im thinking of oh another Kieran video. Also me personally and quite recently ive been having a distate for genshin, but thats not your fault it was in the title, i shouldve known mb, also both games are made by the same company and lore intertwines so cant blame you.
@@andrewcuomo5443 ahhh okay I see what you’re saying! You’re coming from the perspective of just having clicked a video with me yapping generally, I got you! Appreciate the explanation I was a little confused 😂 the comment read as if it was somebody new to the channel too so it was really confusing for me
2:21 That was what I thought at first too!
So I was hoping if you can do a reaction on Clove Agent 25 gameplay trailer and also the cinematic trailer please.
Jing Yuan and Cyno share a VA in English (Alejandro Saab)
28:53 Like a type of Dance, right? Yeah, i get it.
Bro what do you mean by similar to eula their movements are literally oil and water lol
Silver wolf was playing honkai impact
Probaly the best time to play because the anniversary is coming soon.
Bad timing releasing this on the day of a new myriad trailer
Not really since this doesn’t include any of the Myriad trailers. That’ll be a whole separate video! This is just character & version trailers ☺️
@@ChocolateKieran there will be a new character trailer in a few days
Silver wolf is her real name
5:16 did bro not realize she was playing hi3?🤣
There are parts in Genshin story better than parts of HSR and vise versa, but if we compare latest parts I would say they are both good.
And Inazuma was the most boring for me in Genshin tbh (at least the first 80% of it)
48:46 She gives me Kurumi vibes from date a live
22:52 honkai impact 3rd>>honkai star rail (just completed it's first year)>>Genshin impact
Based on story writing
I am surprised how few ppl knows what is russian rulet
34:17 I know right? I bet its intentional.
Acheron is a expy Raiden Mei from honkai impact just like raiden ei is too
21:43 no he is the nine tailed beast 😅
should totally give HSR a shot, you will quickly realize wether its for you or not, and if you decide to play it, its not full of bloated content so catching up is easy
Lets bring the 1k likes guys
dont have genshin counterparts in HSR! its Honkai bro
To me it's all the same. Raidne Shogun is Raiden Mei who is Acheron. They're all the same derivitive character
And being part of Hoyoverse picture puzzle.
So both viewpoints here are correct in way, i think.
