Thrift flip! Dream Dollhouse Makeover, Second Hand Furniture Flip!

- Hands up if you love a thrift flip! I up-cycled a second-hand dollhouse for my niece, and built the dream dollhouse! I do love a furniture flip. I furnished the dollhouse with Sylvanian Families furniture, and some little Sylvanians too. I think in the US you call these Calico Critters.

Colourtrend " Unveiled " in a satin finish.

I love this so much. I was 14 when Sylvanians came out and my parents said I was too old to have them 😢. I am now 47 and living my best life refurbishing Sylvanian houses and animals that I find on eBay 🥰

i didn’t start collecting them until i was 21!!
What about a library for the last room? It’s a sort of corridor with the two staircases in it so maybe some book shelves and a cozy reading area?

@@DaintyDiaries I was lucky enough to have sylvanians in the 80s which are now classed as Vintage!! I had some lovely book cases and books in my collection!
Both my girls have started to collect the current ones and love them also!The house looks beautiful you are very talented! X

My youngest daughter is nearly 15yrs old, and I'm passing on her doll house to my 3yr old niece, and I'm going to have fun refurbing it before hand!
I found a dollhouse, similar to this one, at Goodwill for $10. Then proceeded to spend hundreds of dollars to make it a shabby chic dream house. Lol.
Something I’d totally do! And have gotten myself in trouble with other similar things numerous times!

A totally extra and unnecessary idea popped into my head just now: what if you printed out little family photos of the Sylvanian toys? On adventures in your garden, or just photoshopped. And then put them in frames to stick onto the walls. I remember my dollhouse had stickers of art and photos to put in it but I was about 7 or 8 when I got it so I could stick them on unsupervised( I still managed to stick one on sideways because I thought it was avant garde art, like the painting my parents had just gotten as a gift from an artist friend... years later I realised it was just a still life of a vase of hydrangeas! And it was stuck on its side forever🙃)
PS. I still have to lecture myself into not buying Sylvanian families toys for myself whenever I see any. I didn't have any either, because they really were expensive in the 80s and early 90s.

Oh i realy enjoyed that Catherine you are such a lovley aunt.you did right to start it off with the sylvanian furniture for a small child.most dolls houses are made from mdf which is treated. I always wanted a dollshouse when i was a child but there were 5 of us children and money was tight.but im 74 now and have two houses.my sister got me the first two months after my Daughter passed and i can't tell you how much they helped me. They are such a joy to do and as you said a adult one are more a collectors thing .but i recomend any woman who has always wanted one to just do it. Go on Catherine treat yourself.take care.

You should definitely decorate the dollhouse for Christmas! A little bottle brush tree and some fairy lights! I love it and I would have adored this as a little girl! 😊 your niece is a very lucky girl!

Auntie Catherine is the best and very talented too. My Daughter loved her Sylvanian houses and accessories, unfortunately we didn’t have the room to keep for her children, when she has them. But they went to new homes to be loved and played with xx
I suggest doing a baby nursery with that extra room. They have adorable Furnishings for that
What a lovely job you did! I am sure she will be over the moon with her doll house and you are so wise and thoughtful to make it "kid friendly" for now. You can always add the more collectible furniture when she is older if she is into that. I've always thought it was so sad when people gave little ones china dolls or something like that that was too fragile for the little hands. You are an awesome Auntie.

Omg me too! I was born in the 80’s and I wanted Sylvanian families but we could never afford them. I collect them now as an adult and my daughter enjoys them as well. Lonely house well done.

This is just adorable! You should find some appropriately sized gift boxes and wrap each room's furniture and accessories in it for your niece to open. And then she'll have boxes to store any extra pieces. I just love this!!

I had a doll house when I was a kid but it was made out of tin. I loved that dollhouse I played with it all the time the dollhouse that you refurbished is phenomenal. Such a good auntie. You are so talented.

The house is so pretty and has been given a whole new lease of life. After having 4 wonderful Grandsons I now have a beautiful Granddaughter and can't wait until she is old enough for something like this. I look forward to doing something similar in the future Catherine x

I do that with my 16 yo niece... once I decided to not give her a book and she told me “I was waiting for your gift because I knew it would be an awesome book but you didn’t bring that” I felt si bad! I’m glad she loves books as much as I do! ❤️
I am trying to finish the one I have built this year for my 3 year old granddaughter. I started out with Sylvanians and furniture, then moved to bottle brush trees from dollar general for every room, to making pictures for the wall to making stockings for each room with home made candy canes and tiny toys, to making tree skirts for each tree, to making garlands and greens decor and adding lights, lots of lights, what fun I have been having!!! As the oldest girl of six, I always had to pass everything down to the little ones, I have loved building this one! Glad Christmas is soon though or I would wear myself out with it.

Santa came through this year! Wow girl, you never cease to amaze me. I’m 33 and absolutely love this! Now I want to go thrifting all day and find treasures to repaint and repurpose. Too bad my favorite thrift story closed down this year, so sad. All well- off to find another hidden gem!! xx 😚
I was going to make a "library". Fill it with shelving and try to make one of those ladders you climb up to look at books. Like a sitting room, thought that would be fun!
Me and my little girl have just watched this together. She’s 4 and also has Sylvanian families and a dolls house and now wants to paint hers! I also have a 9 year old who still plays with these and they have a nursery in theirs and it’s probably there favourite room in the house x

Dollhouses are my heart ‘s delight. What a transformation. Our father built a wooden dollhouse for my sister. It is a work of art with my momma adding the interior design elements, curtains, tile floors, wood floors. There are even electric lights. My great niece is the owner now. What a lucky lil girl your niece is. Isn’t fun being an auntie!!!!!!
I used to make doll houses, you can get miniature wallpaper, rugs and put lighting. I had a lot of fun with it.
