Always did my head in that one. I'm pretty sure he didn't think of it as a shifty, though, that was just the only way he could figure out how to get a fakie ollie over something like that. I think he does the same thing over a police barrier in one of the Plan B vids, right?
This was 1991 so you can't even say "if you skated in the 90s" this video was sick. I started skating in the 80s and that was still my reference when I saw this video. This was EARLY nineties and no one was killing it like Sheffey. When it dropped, this was mind blowing. Look at the deck he was riding, it's a brick with no nose. That's still an 80s board for all practical purposes. They weren't even designed to do modern street tricks yet, but he was backside tail sliding full sized picnic tables. Back then power and style were more important than being technical. The guy was fearless and broke new ground. Mad respect. Anyone saying 'where are the flip tricks' probably has never landed a trick going more than 2 MPH and will never understand.
What I can't stand is the mindset that today's young skaters seem to all possess, Everything is about who is better or the best. They say lame ass shit... like... he sucks, he didn't do one single switch bigflip or nollie blah blah whatever. It has become to many, all about being the best and talking shit about guys that are on different levels.... I don't know, for me, a early 40's- 80's skater, it's about locking onto a trick and overcoming the fear involved with whatever the trick may be and commiting anyway, over and over. The feeling of getting it and sticking it, is indescribable and also a total mental release from all the bullshit you're dealing with in your life, Like Lance said, it can't all be about just being good.
first sentence doesnt even make sense, you can absolutely say if you skated in the 90's this video was sick. Doesnt matter when you skated, this video is sick lol. If you wanna get mad at kids for not appreciating old school skating, then they can get mad at you for not appreciating how much skateboarding has progressed. Theres a new standard for good skating, sorry but thats how it works. And thats not just skateboarding, thats the entirety of life. Were human beings and advancement is what we do. doesnt change the fact that this video is legendary.
1992bta that's not skateboarding. Style means for that, there's no standard. Sean and Natas killed with their video parts, doesn't means anyone can't have them style and talent today. the rad mad crazy style is making a huge comeback, check out erick winkowski and auby taylor, fresh
On today's boards, that bs 180 would be considered a monumental feat of athleticism. On his equipment, it's borderline super human. It's right up there with Kien Lieu's ollie over the fence from Hokus Pokus.
This video makes me feel like I need a pair of Airwalks... I remember when this came out, I was in Middle School and this was the video we watched every afternoon after school to get psyched out to go skate.
I'm 52. Sheffey was always so intimidating to me when I was young. Dude is so powerful...also not in this video, but probably had the most styling late shove-its than anyone to this day
I remember Sheffey skating at cheapskates. He'd do frontside disaster slides across the entire ramp. That was probably 20 feet. I vowed to someday be able to do the same. Which I would finally accomplish but not for another five years.
@@fuego1336 I eventually could do them about 10 feet I'd say. 20 feet is a stretch LOL. Not on a ramp taller than 6.5" though. My go to ramp was 108th street skatepark in New York City.
I remember watching this back in 91 and being like omg you gotta see Sean Sheffey's part he ollies the street! thank you uploaders and yt for bringing back memories! feels good 2 see these vids.
I remember being stoked on that. Then a buddy gets Celebrity Tropical Fish and Frankie 180s it. Skateboarding progressed so much in such a short period. It was cool to see when a lot of that innovation was first happening.
I just can’t believe he got this good after only four years. I remember watching this on my 13th birthday at The Turf skatepark in Milwaukee WI in 1991 and being so awe-stricken. And then of course a year later came Plan B
First time ever watching this part, that backside ollie over the grass gap was nuts!! Rewatched it multiple times, I can't even imagine the shock waves this part made when it came out in 1991!!!! Fucking legend
Half cab shifty ollie over the picnic table is a work of art. Makes so much sense that he got Natas’ attention and got on SMA. Nobody could ollie on a noseless big 80’s board like those two.
Tons of dudes did it, for example Reynolds does one in the Shake Junt video part with Herman. He also did it right after a monstrous frontside flip. Check that out.
That's debatable. Don't get me wrong, I love Sheffey so much, but in my opinion, Reynolds is damn close with his one. But even if he or someone else did a better one, that doesn't change the fact that Sheffey did this in 1991, which is fucking insane. And he even did it with a totally different board which was not designed to go that high. Legend.
This is one of the sickest parts I've seen... The whole video I was like FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK :O
i remember sheffey come and done a demo in florida. i think it was bad lands skate park. he was killing it park and the spine mini ramp. ill never forget that day!
Sheffey came through my town around this time. It may have been a World Ind or LIFE demo idk. After the demo we were all skating a pretty big/long gap that we'd found and Sheffey joined in. After a few tries he cleared it...fakie. :)
That big kink rail he boardslid was the same one Sal sacked on right? Also I was watching some random Maldonado footy from like, 95 or 96 the other day and was thinking "damn, I guarantee Mike is a huge Sean Sheffey fan. By the way he skates you can see it all day." Granted, most people are Sheffey fans if they grew up back then or have any sense of how nuts this was for it's time. I was fucking 1 when this video dropped and even at the age of 13 or so when kids haven't yet learned to appreciate skating that old I still thought he was gnarly. In part because, well, look at that God damn board. Dude backside 180s that big ass curb and dirt gap and all the other shit with what was basically a 2 by 10, at least just as flat and heavy anyway
Sheffey is sick. Oyola was one of the best street skaters. Cardiel was intense as well. Classic skate heros. I'll always have mad props for these guys, especially Ricky. true as fuck.
This part was ahead of its time. Most of this video is slow motion so it's hard to appreciate just how fast and powerful Sheffey skated. The guy was a beast. And if you want to talk shit about Sheffey, check out 3:45 on this video below to see what he pulled in 1991. Ask yourself if you have a chance in hell of pulling that. You see a lot of footage at School W but you don't see a lot of that fence. It's too high for most people, 20 years ago or now. watch?v=fyv0Yn3YwII&feature=fvst
This is when I realized how a fucking man rides a skateboard. Him and Donger, dude I watched those parts so much I couldn't tell you anyone else on the goddamn team sadly.
Funny man you dont hear dongers name much anymore.I remember going to S.D. in the late 90's.I skated down from p.b. to mission beach and ran into him.Ive skated around alot of guys with a shitload of pop and I've never seen anything like him to this day.He was easily ollieing over those big cans with the lids going slow as shit. The lids where chest high on me.Effortless and so smooth.
I loved this brief period where you could be just burly without being too techno. I could flip and slide but i like monstering stairs and gap with various grabs thrown in.
Oh... My... God... the fakie shifty over the picnic table was just beautiful
yeah, that one makes me cry tears of skateboard joy !
Always did my head in that one. I'm pretty sure he didn't think of it as a shifty, though, that was just the only way he could figure out how to get a fakie ollie over something like that. I think he does the same thing over a police barrier in one of the Plan B vids, right?
@Jesse Fahnestock I fakie Ollie 9 back in the day did it the same turning 40 this year so this vid was epic... 👊🏽💪🏾💯🛹💛

Flip tricks don't matter if you ain't got speed or style. Skate fast or go home.
Preach!!!!!!!!!!! hahaha

@@neuvocastezero1838 Totally agree. I always liken Natas ollieing up the picnic table to riding a coffee table with wheels.
That's the trick that's always stuck in my mind from this video part. Gnarly af!
In 91' we, over and over, watched Sheffey's part.
Man Sean had mad pop on those old school boards, especially that bs180 on flat over the gap, mad respect
This video makes me feel like I need a pair of Airwalks... I remember when this came out, I was in Middle School and this was the video we watched every afternoon after school to get psyched out to go skate.
The fact that this was the culmination 4 years of skating is pretty crazy.
Ennio morricone and sean sheffey. who would have thought both of them could produce this awesomeness?
Shows how great skating can be with no fliptricks involved
I'm 52. Sheffey was always so intimidating to me when I was young. Dude is so powerful...also not in this video, but probably had the most styling late shove-its than anyone to this day
this is so unbelievably ahead of its time for coming out in 91

Questionable. #1. We were primed with Chin. :D
My man back tailed a FULL sized picnic table on an old school board... absolutely insane, fucking powerful and ground breaking

Thx for this..

VHS grain+Fish-eye = The best "quality" for skateboard videos
One of the first videos that really got me into skating.
remember watching this as a kid and thinking "damn this guy goes hard!"
That backside 180...all time best.
The good the bad and the ugly theme song capped that shit off REAL real nice
he’s so good. it’s nice seeing him still skate these days in carlsbad
Every time I see that triple kinked rail in Balboa Park, I see Sheffey sliding it and remember how mind blowing that was at the time.
Full sized tables. Isla Vista and UCSB spots. Plus School W. Classic 90s.
Insane that i stated skateboarding when this video came out. Almost 30 years ago. Sheffey was destroying that long ago.
could watch this all day
To this fuckin' day you won't see anyone do fakie shifty ollies like that
I've never seen anyone match that picnic table business fakie
Tons of dudes did it, for example Reynolds does one in the Shake Junt video part with Herman. He also did it right after a monstrous frontside flip. Check that out.
Marek Skřivánek he doesn't do it like Sheffey

Brendan Blosser-McGinnis prob not but how often will one see someone nollie flip a small table without a shift (Brian Hoard)
Skated in high tops. RESPECT.
Skate shoes in 80s were mostly high top designed like Etnies
The upload count is epic for Thrasher !!!!!!!!
Love all the I.V. And ucsb footage-
I'm from Clinton MD went to school with Sean
Ooo mad
This is one of the sickest parts I've seen... The whole video I was like FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK :O
one of the best parts ever !!
Wasn't the second song Ron Allen's band? I watched this and Hstreet videos daily back then, my inspiration love miss all these guys.
skateboarding for 4 years he's a genius
I skated with him in 1990, I couldn't believe how high his ollie was
thrasher knows the number of the beast!!!!!
Who needs flip tricks when you can clear picnic takes like that, give respect where due sheffey and this part are awesome.
Assisti esse vídeo umas 100 vezes, (cassete) era a única que tinha . 🛹🛹🛹🛹 inspiração 👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽
The people who disliked don't know that they made black history month in Honor of sean sheffy.
My name is Pinky! 😂😂😂
So much style and pop 👍👍
@DeafMuteZombie it is from the movie "the good the bad and the ugly" great movie
i remember sheffey come and done a demo in florida. i think it was bad lands skate park. he was killing it park and the spine mini ramp. ill never forget that day!
You will never live in the 90's again.
MIKE!!!!!!! YOU THE GOAT BRODY!!!!! EAST COAST SKATING ALL FXXXIN' DAYYYY!!!
Douche.
I dont think ive ever seen anyone grab out of a boardslide on a rail like that. ever.
It's magic man, just style and magic
Pull over grabs were pretty common back then. Doing it without your hand was maybe rarer.
@@jessefahnestock6376 like his lipslide at 2:25 pop no grab
i would love to see you do what he did, in a oldschool board like he did, good luck mate :)
I remember watching a dubbed VHS of this in ‘93 and getting my 🤯. “Strictly brute.” - Gonz on Natas, but applies to Sheffey too.
Good times back then....way less stressful!
Sheffey was a G, no question about it.
Sheffey was a beast. No fear and all balls.
I loved Sheffey I always looked up to him for jumping big gaps... classic...
dude this was sick
I dont know if its the from err what but he makes that song work!
Sheffey style man !!!
I skated with him a couple times in Clinton Md back in the 90's Hats off Sean you Still da Man ;-)
I did too, Clinton and Campsprings Md!
We used to skate up Mt Calvery when I attended MacNamara in the late 80’s, early 90’s. I was on a SMA Natas Kaupas back then.
Good memories.

Him and Frankie Hill were my idols. And Jason Lee.
sickk backtail! amazing that he was doing that back then O:
Monster half cab and fakie over the bench, what the fuck. STILL amazing
@arnaudskates it is the theme song from a movie called The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
Where can you get Maldonado's shirt??
also, watching this video to get me hyped to go skate!
i see him like everyday now
Sheffey and Frankie Hill were gap beasts. Wonder what they're up to these days?
both still skating and both active on Instagram , both still filming in their fifties
the first spot is in point loma CA its at my old school.
No flips, pure power.
