I like to think of Rembrandt as a neutral Lex Luthor. Reliable, and not afraid to get dirty to get things done. He's ruthless with business and has been around the block. Not a bad ally at all.
Lol even his wife says that she doesn't "like that side of him" which is pretty funny because she was so blunt saying that to Makoto in front of Rembrandt.
The anime never goes into detail about what Rembrandt actually did. (It also won't ever go into detail about this.) If you're curious, here's a short-handed SPOILER that explains it, because it was openly shown/described in the novels and the manga at exactly this point in time: Ready? Rembrandt started getting close to the owner of a merchant company. This owner had an adult daughter, who was the love interest of the witch doctor. Rembrandt used Morris to kill the owner and make it look like an accident. He then did lots of work to help the daughter and the company, getting close to her and gaining a favorable reputation in the company. The daughter then became his fiance (I think, not 100% certain whether they were fully engaged or not, but she was in love with him at this point) and the company was united under her and Rembrandt. He then had Morris kill the daughter, again making it look like an accident (monster attack, iirc). The company then went to Rembrandt, he invited his long-time love interest (Lisa) and people celebrated that despite all the hardships Rembrandt had to suffer with his fiance tragically dying, he was still able to find love. The witch doctor later found out about the whole thing and tried to confront Rembrandt, but was shut down. He escaped, learned about those curses, then cursed Rembrand's family members, before he got caught, tortured and eventually killed by Morris.
Rembrandt has definitely done some shady, underhanded things and ruined people's lives in his career, but he also sincerely cares for his family and employees and is seen as a great boss by most of them. He's the kind of guy who can be a wonderful friend or a terrible enemy, depending on the circumstances. Rembrandt's relationship with Makoto will continue to develop in the second season, so I won't say much more than that. 14:21 "ir-ay" made me laugh. For once, English decided to be consistent, so It's pronounced just like "fire" without the F. It's a noun for anger or annoyance with someone, though in context it can range from "I don't like dealing with him" to "I want to stab him in a dark alley". The witch doctor lied to Lime about adventurers from the orphanage dying because of Rembrandt, and further lied that his curse would just put Rembrandt's wife and daughters to sleep. Lime didn't realize he was just being used, and Rembrandt never made the actual effects of the curse public (remember he only told Makoto as an apology for doubting him). And I recall the novel's version of the fight being more of a "beat them up to scare them away from Rembrandt" thing than the attempt to actually kill them in the anime. As for the witch doctor himself, I don't remember if the novel explains why he hated Rembrandt so much, but Rembrandt obviously wrecked his life pretty good somehow.

@Timmycoo I can see why. It's like Shark Tank all over again.
As I said in the previous chapter, there is no "good" or "bad" people in Tsukimichi. Everyone is morally gray.
I gotta say, Morris is certainly... one HELL of a Butler.
