Normal feet.... normal feet? HER FEET ARE BEAUTIFUL COMPARED TO MINE WHAT THE HECK IM JEALOUS! Long arch and short toes is what i have ;( ... ahem* sorry ... anyway thank you so much for the tips Claudia! You honestly help me so much! Hopefully these tips will help me achieve my ideal feet... since mine are a nuisance :D
Hi Claudia. I have been watching all your tutorials and LOVING the tips. I am a teacher in Zimbabwe and have a lot of our African people who really struggle with their very flat feet - so their point is extremely restricted I would say about 80% of dancers who came in to me. I have been doing some of these exercises with them - with the theraband the kids find it so difficult at first to wing their feet outwards without moving their legs too - fascinating to see. But the more we r practicing the better they r able to achieve this. What I did to help them see how they can move just their feet sideways from the ankle was to do it with their hands - move out move in and they could see they didn't have to move their arms to do this. Keep up these super tutorials - both I and my dancers are loving them all the way across in Africa!
Could you do a video about bowed legs and how to control turnout and posture with bowed legs? I have this and I find it really hard to hold my placement while dancing because my knees aren’t with my toes... If that makes sense haha.
She does have an exercise for that. If you look for her 5 ballet bad habits video you'll see an exercise that's about jumping on one leg with your knees bent. That kind of "teach" your knees of their correct placement.
It doesnt matter that you have bowed legs... Your body is adaptable so even with other legs you would struggle the same way... Keep practicing the movement and add some balance, strenght and flexibility exercises
Can you do more feet tutorials? Like strengthening, daily training and arch improvement, but with flat shoes? How to accent the arch in flats? I have seen your videos and I'm sure there's more than can be done as well! Also, Claudia, is there a reason you're always in sneakers and not pointe shoes or flats? Just curious :) Thank You!
OMG, a teacher from my childhood always said I couldn't overcome my bowed leggs, even to dance as an amateur! For years I felt sad about it, because I really believed on it. Thank you for this inspiring video!
I literally almost cried when you said you had bowed legs. I have bowed legs and you have no idea how many instructors have dismissed me entirely simply because I have bowed legs.
Seriously Miss Claudia your videos are awesome, and I can’t thank you enough for them! I’ve always loved ballet, it’s such a beautiful sport. However I could never afford to take the class. Except when I was in high school I was able to take all 4 years ballet. Also this helps me continue with my training so that when I can take ballet classes again I am prepared. I never learned all this in my training in high school. I’m kind of shocked but I think it’s because the dance class was just to show the basics of ballet. Anyways, I’m rambling now. ❤️❤️❤️❤️Thank you for all your amazing tips!
This is an amazing video, Claudia! I am a professional dancer but still watch your videos for extra tips and tricks because us dancers are all perfectionists. I am also bow legged and can relate to this 100%! I love having a fully stretched leg and foot line in tendu but this is exactly correct, we have to fish our feet. It feels incorrect, like "lazy" maybe, but it's correct for some of us dancers. Thank you for clarifying my insecurities into a positive! Could you do a video on arms. Specifically how to pull up and hide a hanging triceps without locking your elbow to contract the triceps. Just something that has been bothering me alot. Your my favorite, Claudia. Thank you for all your videos.
I have never had an explanation of bow legs, I thought it was just because I didn't do ballet as a child. And loved how you did this video, very helpful.
Thank you soooo much for this!! I do not have perfect feet either and I struggle a lot in class because my feet looked sickle. These tips and exercises are so helpful. I'm going to do them everyday!
Exercise 5 was the way we were taught. The teacher would even get down on the floor facing us, holding our foot and have us do the exercise that you did against the wall. He would hold the foot as we extended our knee. Ahhh....those were the days man 😊.
Great video! Question... why are arms not softer ? I've noticed in professional companies the female dancers have arms going from position to position whereas for me feminine grace and softness is missing. Is this a modern trend or the only 'way?
Sahryn Hi Sahryn, I have to say I've experienced the same. My favourite dancers to watch are definitely the Russians and also the French. I think the Russian arms are beautiful. It's true ballet has come so far that the the arms really need to support the physique but the Russian style seems to me to always have combined that strength and technique with beautiful expression. It'd be really interesting to see if you agreed with me!
Hi Claudia :) Love love love your tutorials!! I am an adult ballet teacher and really enjoy your hacks and tips!! One question, is fishing the same as winging the foot?
Hi Claudia, I love your tips and great instructions! Is it possible to make some more videos on intermediate petitte and grand allegro combinations, ty.
Hi, my girls and I are loving your videos. Just wondering, we have scrolled through most of them. Do you have one regarding knees and hamstrings. My 11 year old daughter used to have lovely leg lines but in the last year she is now having trouble fully stretching so her knees are looking bent in her leaps and she can no longer get into a flat split in her grande jetes where 2-3 years ago she was in oversplit. One of her teachers suggested her hamstrings may have tightened with her growth spurts over the last year. Do you have video or some suggestions that may help her get her leg lines back? Thanks
She does have a few...on UA-cam...type in her name along with Royal Ballet , she was so tiny but did have later solos as a full woman....boobs and butt. Watch the one that she criticizes herself...she is so real.
Hi Claudia, thanks for this video. I feel like there is an overreliance on fishing these days so I'm glad you have addressed this topic. Just one question, what is your opinion on fishing when the leg is in second? I feel like this occurs a lot in dancers that have been taught to fish without having the strength to control it.
Hi Claudia I was wondering if you could make some videos for flexible feet? Some of the stretches in this video weren’t actually stretching my feet. Thanks!
Off topic a little but do you think it's OK to wear 2 different shank strengths of pointe shoes on each foot? My left foot is alot stronger than my right and I was thinking about wearing a medium shank on my left and a softer shank on the right. Thank you!!
Y’all neither of them actually have bowed legs. Bowed legs are a deformity in the bones themselves and it’s really not that common. Because ballet dancers hyperextend their knees purposefully (and a lot of people naturally hyperextend anyway) it rotates the leg inward (medial rotation at the femur head) so your legs come apart. If you truly have physically bowed bones, it is literally impossible for your legs to come together in parallel, even with knees bent. And you’ll see that the student can actually take her knees together in parallel when she passes out of her lateral rotation, it’s when she “straightens” then into hyper extension that they come apart. I say all that because if you don’t have a bone shape issue, then you can correct yourself out of that bowed shape by better engaging your quads, glute medius, and deep six rotators. But if it’s a bone shape issue you can’t correct it muscularly.
Claudia, thank you so much for sharing dancer wisdom! What you do is truly amazing and not a class goes by without me sending gratitude your way ❤️ Could you pinpoint the muscle you're talking about activating at 10:17 anatomically? I imagine it's semitendinosus.. I'm studying massage therapy and conditioning specific to dance and it would really help a lot to know for sure.
My toes hurt when they’re pointed on the hard ground, I do make sure to not put pressure on it but it’s still uncomfortable 😂 Am I doing something wrong?
I’ve got really nice arches but my feet look horrible when I’m not standing en pointe and that’s what I’m having issues with so if you have any advice that’d be great :)
Why wouldn’t you always work through a stretched foot? I’d worry less about cheating the lines and more about strengthening and training the foot to maintain functionality.
Claudia, I LOVE your videos and every video is helping me a lot 😍 I do ballet since I was 2 years old (now I'm 13) and I have been in love with this art since then. My biggest dream is to be a professional ballerina someday. You are AMAZING and one of my biggest inspirations! 💕 Thank you ❤
Amira Safwa. Hi Amira. I love this exercise. It's brilliant for strengthening feet. Our exercise was: stand in an easy first position (don't start off trying this at maximum turn out, you'll create too many bad habits) Use pressure into the floor by the balls of the feet to create a slight bouncing action where the heels just come off the floor. It will feel strange but it should generate it's own momentum. Maintain the knee line straight as you can. Use the momentum of the bounce to slowly increase the height until you get close to sauté position. It's a very strange feeling to start but you'll get used to it. When you're strong enough you'll manage full sautés and then you can increase your turn out to challenge your legs some more! I hope this helps!
My problem is that I have decent arches when I go on pointe. but when I try to point my foot when I’m not on my box it doesn’t look very good. I also have a hard time keeping turned out. if anyone could help that would be great(I’m trying to improve enough to be Clara this December)
Threesweetbrownies rosin helps with slipping, if that's why you can't keep your turnout, and not being able to point while not "en pointe/over the box is to do with your foot strength and shank strength. Maybe try a softer shoe, or do a lot of theraband exercises and releves to strengthen your foot.
Both my feet are flat and archless, but one of my feet has 2nd and 3rd toes with phalanges mediae (that joint where the toe meets the foot) that won't stretch like the others. I have to force it down manually, but I feel an extinct arch being pressed back in whenever I do it, and my heel digs in harder on this calf than the other heel does to its calf, all when I stretch the feet straight forward.
I struggled a lot when I first started pointe because I have bowed legs. Winging the feet is so much harder for me😓 When I think I’m winging my feet, they just don’t appear to be winged.
I know I’m on the wrong video for this but I really wanted to get some attention on my problem when I doing turns like la second and fouetté I am afraid to drop my foot and lift it back up I really need help with this. Please help!!!!! ILSYM
very nice video Claudia as always you are an amazing coach !!Could you please make a video about strengthening flexible ankles I have been struggling with this problem for so long :( ?(sorry for my english)

This is absolutely wonderful, helpful and very much appreciated!! Thanks Claudia!
THANK YOU!!! A lot of us thought we need to "cheat" to get a good line cause our feet were far from perfect. Now we can "hack" guilty free!!!

Do you have tips for improving the ankle mobility? I feel like that’s a big part of why my pointe work isn’t as good.
This is an amazing video, Claudia! I am a professional dancer but still watch your videos for extra tips and tricks because us dancers are all perfectionists. So helpful. Thank you Miss Claudia💜from Greece

Thanks for talking about bowed legs Claudia - most don’t cover this and it’s encouraging to us with similar legs👍
Cláudia is the best coach ever

is 'fishing' you foot the same thing as beveling/winging?
Yes!

thank you for the feedback! xx

Thank you so much beautiful!! ❤️ and of course, I've written this down on my video ideas list xx
Do you have to have pointe for this? I want pointe shoes so I thought maybe I could use this video to help me get my pair.
Okay see these are times that I wasn't taught in school that explained why they preferred a wrapped foot in Pete battma (sp).
What pointe shoes?
What pointe shoes is she wearing?
Non dancers read the title and be like, is she getting a pedicure?
bring heels forward, heels forward, heels forward...etc. etc.
why is it called fishing?
I have bowed legs, restricted feet and bad turnout :(
hello
Legenda em português please
Hello sweetheart :)
I often find myself getting frustrated in myself because I simply just can’t wing my foot!
It’s like my brain just can’t send the message to my muscles saying WING
Anyone relate?
How to make your feet look amazing? DON'T do ballet? LOL! x
