I think suicidal thoughts were always in the dark side of Michaels mind after he was released from jail, he was never really accepted back into society. The only life he knew was prior to his imprisonment, he was a haunted individual who was abandoned by the majority of the club kids. James had moved on years ago using Michaels grim misfortune as voyaristic fame platform, you can tell in these videos he sees himself as a high profile celebrity and that Michael was just part of his sordid history, Ernie was his only true friend in his life it appears.
I thought that he looked like he was hurting on the inside bad. Earlier last year he needed a roommate or he was gonna be on the streets. I didn't have a job lined up so I couldn't and I still feel horrible cause he was in a dark place then💔
Yeah, that is sad. I really hope that his OD was just a legit accident! That is sad enough, on its own! Because, much like people that "self-end," being addicted to substances enough to have an OD, in most cases, at least, is not usually a sign of a person who is happy, or doing well with life. So many people think that addicts are just people who love a buzz too much! And could just decide to stop, as that's the healthier, safer, and less expensive way to live. It's not that easy though! Especially since I've known a lot of addicts.. Some were extremely deep in to whatever they were doing. Many were fully functional, and would t even seem like someone yoid think of as being they type to be in that position. But, most anyone can end up there! And the one big common ground among all the people I knew, was pain. They lived with a lot of constant pain. Whether it was physical, or emotional/mental. Or both, in a number of cases! And some of these people had tried, hard, to get help the legal and legit way, for a while. They finally gave up, and started doing what they could to help themselves, when therapists and doctors, either wouldn't help, or just couldn't, help them! I used to be very judgemental and close-minded about the matter.. But then I grew up! I experienced how rough life can be, while still not having it any where near as bad as many people, even at my worst times. And I also found out that some of the people that I knew well, and love(d) greatly, were, and in some cases are, in active addiction. The government and the doctors, really should start worrying a lot more about helping people that need it! And less about possibly giving meds (sedatives, or pain meds,) to people who mostly just want a buzz. Seems that it'd be a lot better to let some that use the stuff for fun, get through the cracks, than to screw over a lot of people who really do need the help and medication, to have a decent quality of life! We'd have less addicts on the streets! And less crime! And it'd also be nice if the legal system would start helping people with rehabilitation, instead of locking thrm up! Often for even longer than people who commit violent crimes, and hurt kids! Just shows how messed up the priorities are. And how rampant the corruption is, among those in positions of power!

How exactly was he “abandoned by the club kids?” He was the one who left for 17 years. Most people moved away from NYC. Even James moved to California. A handful of them were there when Michael was released from prison. And a large group had dinner with him the night he got home.

Yes and I think one point that's often missed in such a discussion is that Disco Bloodbath is a damn fine book full of excellent writing. It has flaws, of course, I'm not trying to say it's Steinbeck, but what I mean is it's not as if he just reported events in a true-crime format. It's hilarious, occasionally poignant, and delivered in a strong, distinctive authorial voice. It's also true that without Michael's persona and story, there would have been nothing to write about, I get that... I guess I'm just saying that it's a complex argument.
I"m about as far from "Clubbing" or the lifestyle as one can probably be - but I found this very entertaining and refreshingly informative. I'm familiar with the back story hear thanks to a mutual friend of Mr. Alig, and it's nice to see people getting together after so long and enjoying company.
