Quadruple Trains Hit Sullivan's Curve! First Flight with a New Drone. A Surprise in Every Direction.

- The Trackside Brothers and I freed up some time to go hang out for the day at (East) Sullivan's Curve in the Cajon Pass back in August of 2024. Keith from @cajonpassrailroadfans was out learning to fly his new drone, and I was out to try a new one after crashing the last one I had on Mother's Day.
@SilenceSeven was also there too gathering flicks of the legendary graffiti writer's work that had passed by on that hot summer day, especially during this quadruple smash!
Buddy, Keith's dog and the one responsible for lining this euphoric train experience and epic event up, can be seen celebrating this spectacular array of railroad sights and sounds too at one point. You will need to watch it all to see when! 😉
We heard a train coming. But we had no idea where from, the horns from the trains are always echoing through the vast and multiple canyons of the Cajon Pass, often deceiving the benchers and fans alike while trying to poise themselves for the next perfect shot.
We wanted to scout out the situation. So, Keith and I jumped at our drones and raced to connect them to their controllers. We both were having technical difficulties.... HURRY! We could hear it was getting close and we both began to frantically try and connect to our little unmanned electric eyes in the skies. Finally! I got mine to work! Up it went... Keith's was still experiencing difficulties and would ultimately not connect before he had to finally ditch the flight entirely and go for the ground shot! THE TRAIN WAS HERE! Little did any of us know the radness that was about to unfold for the next twenty-five minutes in The Curve. Enjoy.

So Buddy set up a Freight and Locopolooza . Very nice drone work i appreciated the audio from your phone really adds to the experience. Following that east bound Up around the bend with the overhead shot was really nice. Thanks Mike

👍🏼FYI starting at about the 24:00 mark if you look closely you can see the cut where the line originally went through before they rearranged the tracks. In fact you flew your drone right through it. Can you imagine how many steam locomotives went through that same cut so many many years ago

To say this video extravaganza is epic is an understatement! My wife and I enjoyed the feast of trains while I fed her the evening meal. Non-stop panoramics captivated us with incredible scenery never ending scenery. The iconic Rolling Stones lips and tongue, Homer Simpson, Surf, Crash and many other works of art rewarded our patience. Nice job with the sound! 💯Especially the terrifying return to home drone warning. 😂🤣 I saw the rare open boxcar. You don’t see many of those anymore. Nice work framing the RS 👄 behind the flat car. What new drone did you get? DJI constantly bombards my inbox with sales on the latest and greatest drones. Great job editing too brother.

I am very nervous to fly it. I have had it for about 2 months and this was the first real footage that I have filmed with it. 😄 Beginners luck that this happened the first time I decided to go for it! 🎰🎲
@@FJDad777 I’m nervous to fly my Mini 2 anywhere other than an open field nearby. Even then when it is far away and low battery sound goes off I have fight panic off. I haven’t flown in months so I’ll have to relearn it again. You did a great flying your mini 2 SE. I’m always blown away with the camera quality these drone have. Quite impressive!

I really enjoyed watching from a new point of view. Keep up the good work as most enjoyable. Like seeing ICH and too the red mouth as they are easily recognizable. I was just there just before labor day videoing for 4 mornings. It is a great location.

nice video can you please tell me why the UP train coming down on the single track was waiting for the BNSF train going up on one of the double tracks, was the UP train going to be switched over to the BNSF lines? thanks
@natgass8102 @natgass8102 Hi Nat thank you you for watching! I will do my best. In a nut shell:
Train 1 is South bound UP manifest train coming down on upper UP tracks. It tied down...
Then Train 2 arrives. It is an East bound BNSF stack train on the lower BNSF main line 1. As it is passing by on the lower tracks, Train 3 arrives, a North bound UP manifest. It passes by Train 1 still tied down. Trains 2 and 3 pass almost simultaneously, and then Train 1 South bound UP manifest gets the green light and begins to move South on UP tracks again, as the train begins to creep forward Train 4 arrives. It is a West bound BNSF stack train on main line 2.
So, in summary:
Train 1: South bound UP manifest (Palmdale cutoff/UP tracks tied down on siding)
Train 2: East bound BNSF stack train (BNSF ML1)
Train 3: North bound UP manifest (Palmdale Cutoof/UP tracks)
Train 4: West bound BNSF stack train (BNSF ML2)
If you go to 11:00 as the drone is rising you can see train 1 tied down (stopped) and trains 2 and 3 running parallel to one another. AND, if you look close enough at the upper right quadrant of the screen, you can actually see train 4 coming down way out in the distance!

thanks that’s complicated but in summary the predecessor companies Santa Fe & Southern Pacific each had their own tracks running through the pass which today are BNSF & UP’s ?
