Your video make me remember when he was the manager of Barcelona great squad whith players like Ronaldinho, Messi , Eto'o... I m glad you made this video because i almost forgot him , i dont know what he became since then.
Frank Rijkaard is one of the most underrated legends in all of football. I'm still so confused how he isn't that recognizable in the footballing world. Also, I recommend to make a video about the Brasileirao (The Brazilian league) anything about any clubs from it or the entire league altogether
Jack Charlton described him as pure gold and wished he was an English man. Until the European championships he had never heard of him and there lies his problem. He was not charismatic and stayed away from the press.
I think it's just a midfielder thing. When you look at some of the best teams throughout history, everyone harps on about the strikers and goal scorers when often times it's a great midfield that makes these great clubs
Great video. Yeah as a Dutchman, Frank is still beloved here... but looks like he is enjoying his early retirement that he deserve. Can you do the comparison between the Milan trio - vs - Barca trio (or other combo). Gullit, Rijkaard & van Basten - vs - Iniesta, Xavi & Messi.
You can't compare them, not the same positions. If you want to compare then it has to be Gullit, Rijkaard, Van Basten vs. Messi, Suarez, Neymar OR (Messi, Ronaldhinho, Eto'O). Iniesta and Xavi were not as forward and goal-oriented as Rijkaard although they played the number 8 and 6 positions better. Gullit was a number 10 and so you can't compare him with both Xavi and Iniesta plus Van Basten was number 9 so his profile is different from Messi who played as a roaming 10 and used a s false 9 sometimes. This is why Messi is so good and it's amazing he has been able to score all these goals because he is not a number 9-scoring is not his main focus. can you imagine how many goals Messi would have scored if he only concentrated on scoring goals?
genuinely one of the most underrated players of all time, his skillset for his position is probably one of the best a team could ever have. Physical qualities of a CB playing as a CDM who also had the touch/vision/shooting of a CAM.
@@RaymarFootball Yup...he was great. I think he was the best Dutch defender. I can remmber the world cup of 1990. In the game against Germany he got red together with Voller. But i immediately new the dutch would loose....Because he couldn´t be missed and Voller could.
I've always said Frank Rijkaard revived Barcelona, at the time Barca was finishing 4th in the league and fighting for a champions league spot. Guardiola is not a great manager he just inherited Rijkaard's team and in fact Guardiola made some disastrous moves that cost Barca dearly in the long run. I never saw him as a player but my uncle says that Rijkaard could play defense the entire game and if he was bored he would just go forward and so a goal at will.
There's just something special seeing Dominant trio in variety of position and not just the typical LW,ST,RW. Ive always admired AC Milan legendary trio
He was a football legend and he discovered a magician called Lionel Messi and that is also a big trophy for him and for the football fans .Thanks Frank Rijkaard for that and for the beautiful football.
One of the best defensive midfielder the game has ever seen and honestly even in today's game there has been no one like him around that position. Top DMs from the past 20 years include probably Makelele, Alonso, Kante, Yaya Toure.... most of them are good at defensive task but not so much of dribbling or attacking. But this guy had everything and with such tall frame you could just imagine what a pain he was for the oppositions. He has won almost everything possible as a player, retired without major injury, and then won pretty much everything as a club manager. The guy is so cool to walk away from the game and just lives a normal life. Sometimes it's not a bad thing to know when to stop and enjoy other aspect of the life.
If he just decided to just walk away and leave everything behind, I can respect that. I just hope he is happy and healthy wherever he is and whatever he's doing.
Great post ! Frank played slightly before I began following European football. I didn’t know the extent of his great footballing career. As a Real Madrid fan, I was well aware of his time as Barca’s coach, and was kinda surprised by his abrupt departure. I can only surmise that he had nothing left to prove in football.
I don’t know who you spend you time with but Frank Rijkaard has always been spoke of highly where I’m from. Everyone knows who he is and everyone rates him as one of the best ever. That goes for the kids coming up too. Glad you did this video but he’s a world renowned player with a reputation that precedes him everywhere. He’s not a niche figure and no one has forgotten him 😂 (apart from football fans outside of Europe, Africa and South America who don’t know anything about the sport and largely ruin it anyway 👍🏻)
To think that gullit and rijkaard father's came to Netherlands from a small place like Surinam together and each produced 1 of the best football player of their generation is kinda crazy
I remember a match where Barcelona were strangely outplayed . I am convinced the match was fixed . A young Messi was taken out crying and i saw Rijkaard in tears too . I believe in Frank Rijkaard . His reasons for leaving the game is respected 🙏
I lived In Amsterdam and used to see him frequently. He’d take his ‘son’ to the park at Amsterdamse Bos, he always looked miserable. Even when he had his family with him, he looked lonely and sad. You’d have thought that a man that had achieved all that he’d achieved would be a happier person, I guess we just don’t know what goes on inside the minds of the brilliant.
In the 90's I saw him frequently in bars and restaurants, often together with Wim Kieft, and they always looked amused. Saw him about half a year ago in a Amsterdam in a restaurant with a woman and again he looked happy.
It is unfortunate that mainly Barça and Milan fans are the ones who remember him. And even within the Barça fanbase he doesn't get his deserved recognition because his last 2 seasons were not very good. But they fail to realize he brought back the Cruyff philosophy and with Laporta and Ronaldinho managed to turn the club around completely, and then he built the core of the sextuple winning team, two achievement which imo makes him a club legend, because if we didn't have that rebirth in the mid 2000s Barça could've gotten stuck as a club with European prestige but not in the same category as the elite clubs and not become the footballing titan it went on to become.
Couldn’t have said it better my man, helped build the foundations that Pep would use to create a dynasty! Also criminally underrated as a player, man could play in any system/era/formation as the perfect CDM for a winning squad
Another thing with Rijkaard is hes a verry verry humble down to earth person , No controversies or bad image on and of the pitch , ( exept if your part of a german national team and your name happens to be Rudi voller . ) He took his time in the sun and moved on . if the passion is gone its the right disision .
Defensive mid who was fast, strong, good enough at tackling/positioning to play as a centerback THEN have the touch/dribble to play as an attacking mid, have great playmaking/vision AND can score his own goals. Extremely underrated!
Wonderful balance and poise as a footballer. Classy and sophisticated on the pitch. I remember him well here in the UK from Channel 4's Gazzetta Football Italia coverage back in the day.
I just loved Frank's concept of football, as Barca coach! Before Guardiola,....there was Frank! It was the first time i remember watching clockworklike football,....where the team played like Playstation.
Great perspective using VVD as a comparison. Football really peaked during the era of the galácticos and has never recovered. It’s become so athletic and stats-based that very very few players we see now achieve truly comparable historical greatness.
Top top great player and manager. A gift to football. Loved watching him in my youth at his perk at AC Milian with those other two Dutch wizards .best team on earth. Superb player can play any style and win. Thanks for the documentary.
I grew up watching that great AC Milan side , there were so many greats in it. It makes what Maradona did at Napoli even greater when he managed to break their dominance for a couple of years.
Class. Just picked up an unworn pair of his diadora signature boots in classic black with white detail for my collection. I remember watching him at Milan on Football Italia in the early ‘90s. Superb player.

One of my favorite player in PES, after playing this game 🎮 i can feel how good was Rijkaard, Gullit & Van Basten..they are underrated and people don't remember them as a great players.
Rikaard was sensational as a footballer. I grew up watching him and he set the pace for defensive midfielders before we had Makele, Viera, Kante and others.

Was never a big fan of Barca or Milan but FR along with RG and MvB were a great influence on many kids soccer careers. Still do not know how the Dutch did not win a world cup with these brilliant players
Really interesting personality on and off field.. Heard of his name a lot as a legendary player.. But never thought that he made his name as a cdm... This guy was basically a premium quality jack of all trades... Quite possibly the best cdm ever?? I feel he seems to be more of a box to box midfielder.. Beautiful video and narration btw.. 🙏🙏
Yup he’s a VERY different CDM, he was a jack of all trades but pretty damn close to mastering them as well!! Best CDM is debatable, but he was the best overall and could fit in with any squad or formation
I remember when I worked as a waiter at an event. Rijkaard was there with his wife. Of all the people who walked there he came to me 1 on 1. And he asked how I was. It was a very easy conversation. I stood with a big smile for the rest of the day. He made me feel special.
Undeniably class player - except when he spat in Ruddi Voëller’s beatiful perm. As a coach at Barça we all had this feeling he was very calm, then maybe just relaxed, well perhaps too relaxed… hey? Frankie? What’s that smell in your office?
I always preferred the Rijkaard barsa as the Pep one, Rijkaard was the creator of the team and had a more direct game, Pep found a champions team and just fixed the drunk pieces, giving a style that personally I do not like: pass, pass, pass....The more aggressive game of Rijkaard was better for me
Great video but would’ve been even better if you could’ve done some cheeky journalism into where hes at, what he does now etc.. the story was so amazing it needed abit more information towards the end
Frank Rijkaard was a uniquely talented football player and manager because as a player, he could play in three different positions during any game ( defensive midfielder, attacking midfielder, centre forward); and as a football manager, he was unigue because he had the instinct and natural ability to select players for all the positions he played in, with attacking mind with quick and short passes which were so devastating to defenders that, they did not have the time time to react in time to stop the attackers and midfielders. I call Frank Rijkaard a genius football player and manager. The Rijkaard, Gullit, Van Basten ( R.G.VB) trio in AC Milan was one of the most deadly attacking trio in the world. No wonder Frank Rijkaard replicated the R.G.VB in Barcelona with Ronaldhino, Iniesta, Eto'o ( R.I.E) trio. The Netherlands has also produced many of the world's best football players.
The only time I have been at Camp Nou, after the great match (3-0 win) in the parking garage we saw the very private Rijkaard with his daughter, which I didn't know he had. As a Dutchie first exposed to football with the EC '88, Ajax winning the Champions League and Rijkaard coaching Barça he is one of the all-time greats. And I think there is more charm in the Frank Ronaldinho approach than to sell out to the MLS or Asian leagues in the heydays of your career...
MVB and Gullit are currently different from Rijkaard. MVB and Gullit still appear in Dutch television shows and sports and football programs. MVB and Gullit are also very active on social media. Frank Rijkaard, however, seems to want to rest and enjoy his old age.
First football match i ever saw live was in barca on camp nou. He was the maneger at the time, and i remember barca won 8 - 0 and Ronaldinho made 3 goals !
Rijkaard is really special. Amazing allround. Very well described by the narrator. Maybe the best ever on his position. Gave also the assist! in the CL final ......in 1995....this man was very special for a defensive midfielder, who sometimes also played next to Danny Blind in the center. Ajax school, Ajax football. Total football. Do i need to say more? Which club doesnt want to play like Ajax?
We as Ajax supporters, not only praise Franklin Edmundo Rijkaard as an all time great Ajax player, but also as a great human being. We love you frank ❌❌❌
He is the pioneer of the modern Barcelona success story. Without him, there will be no Ronaldinho and Eto'o. The rest of the future successor players like Xavi, Iniesta and then Messi are the by products of Rijkaard building the team's platform upon Ronaldinho back in 2003. Under him la Masia came into great prominence and the term "Mes Que Un Club" became a world renown philosophy of a truly unique footballing club that revolved around philosophy and ideals of intelligence application to football, more than just pure physicality or brute strength which other clubs favored
At Barcelona Henk Ten Cate was the tactical brains and Rijkaard was the motivator. Ten Cate also kept the players in check, once he left the decline began.
You don't make any sense, read your own sentence again. If he was ONLY a motivator, according to your big brains, then he should have had no issues in motivating the players in his final years, no? What you just said is like saying Pep was only a motivator and Tito did all the work. The fact of the matter was that the team had won everything they had to win and the senior players had grown wings and not following the Barca doctrine anymore so they had to freshen up the team with "hungry" players. Rijkaard's mistake, maybe he was tired too, was that he did not freshen the team early enough but you can't blame him much because on paper the team was still amazing. Pep faced the same situation after winning everything but he left at the right time. He did say he left Barca because he couldn't motivate the superstars on the team anymore, in short, he lost the dressing room. It's not easy coaching the best players, Xavi will face the same problem and someone else will have to take over that's why they have started grooming Rafael Marquez.
@@yenkassa Hahaha Where does the comparison on Pep and Tito come from? Why don't YOU read my sentence again? Who used the phrase "ONLY a Motivator"? Who is blaming anyone? Who is criticising anyone? Frank and Henk deserve more praise for the work they did at the time. The football was amazing. Frank did have issues with motivating and keeping the order of the dressing room especially in his final years( which you agree with) Why was this? Because Ten Cate was his right hand man. I'm pretty sure you weren't watching Barca at this time, using phrases "maybe he was tired" "He didn't freshen the team" Frank DID bring in signings, can you name even five without googling? It was clearly documented at the time what was going on behind the scenes. Falling out with Eto'o didn't help. Henk had his foot on the necks of the players with egos and was a good coach. Frank and Henk worked well together that's all I'm saying. Now rest easy young man and remove Frank's sack from your jaws.
7:15 - the back to back European Champions Cup trophies were the 1989 and 1990 ones. You made it seem as the secon trophy was in 1989. And the most important thing is that Rijkaard scored in the 1990 final against Benfica, not Juventus. There were indeed two Italian teams in the Champions Cup that season, but the other team was Inter, as they've won the Serie A in 1989, while Milan were defending their 1989 Champions Cup win.
I expected a link or a drop down of sort to the video you made on Van Basten and the others mentioned in this video. I really wanted to rewatch the one van Basten especially

He didn’t leave barca on top, check!
He remains my best footballers in the world, even today. He made me switch from Madrid to Barca as a coach, especially because of the brand of football they played and gave chances to various young players. My greatest
I just hope he is enjoying life with his family and staying away from drama online by either reading or hearing about it or being apart of it somehow in some random occurrence...amazing player and no one can deny it
Im from suriname proud to say we had such a greAt player 🇸🇷
Shoutout to Suriname! 🇸🇷
Big up our country Suriname
Your video make me remember when he was the manager of Barcelona great squad whith players like Ronaldinho, Messi , Eto'o... I m glad you made this video because i almost forgot him , i dont know what he became since then.
That was the start of a monstrous Barca dynasty! happy to remind everyone 🤝
It would be the same
See some posts on reddit how he’s sometimes seen cycling in the city and is pretty cool when fans approach him!
@@yenkassa more then 30 goals
I always wanted a video on him!!!
Thanks for these mind blowning explanations about him
I’m glad I could share his story man, very underrated legend!
Frank Rijikaard deserves more praise after watching this video
His legacy was awesome
genuinely one of the most underrated players of all time, his skillset for his position is probably one of the best a team could ever have. Physical qualities of a CB playing as a CDM who also had the touch/vision/shooting of a CAM.
Before this video
Where is edgar davids,patrick viera,van bommel,veron,redondo,ambrossini,gattuso ?
If he just decided to just walk away and leave everything behind, I can respect that. I just hope he is happy and healthy wherever he is and whatever he's doing.
I think "The Black Tulip" (Yep, it's weird af) is Ruud Gullit's Nickname
The nickname for MVB,Gullit and Rijkaard is known as "The Dutch Trident"
That sounds much better 😂 Thanks for that one my man, but regardless one of the most deadly trios in football history!
I'm always asking about his whereabout but thank God you explain everything.
Imagine his successor at ajax in the late 80's was Edgar Davids 😁😁 a worthy successor 👍👍
To think that gullit and rijkaard father's came to Netherlands from a small place like Surinam together and each produced 1 of the best football player of their generation is kinda crazy
haven't heard this guys name in years
here to remind everyone of how great he was!
I remember a match where Barcelona were strangely outplayed . I am convinced the match was fixed . A young Messi was taken out crying and i saw Rijkaard in tears too . I believe in Frank Rijkaard . His reasons for leaving the game is respected 🙏
Rijkaard is a under appreciated Player and Manager in my opinion.
Very under appreciated and extremely underrated! Easily a top 3 CDM of all time
Thank you so much. Always wanted to know what happened to him
No problem my brotherman!
No media accounts? Good for him! King Frank!!
Another thing with Rijkaard is hes a verry verry humble down to earth person , No controversies or bad image on and of the pitch , ( exept if your part of a german national team and your name happens to be Rudi voller . ) He took his time in the sun and moved on . if the passion is gone its the right disision .
one of the most underrated players ever
Defensive mid who was fast, strong, good enough at tackling/positioning to play as a centerback THEN have the touch/dribble to play as an attacking mid, have great playmaking/vision AND can score his own goals. Extremely underrated!
Never underrated , far from it
@@MOOBOOSE no
Wonderful balance and poise as a footballer. Classy and sophisticated on the pitch. I remember him well here in the UK from Channel 4's Gazzetta Football Italia coverage back in the day.
Fantastic video keep it up your doing amazing job
He was first
Appreciate it my brother 🙏 I’ll keep on making better ones for you all to hopefully enjoy
Always wanted to hear his story, great video.
appreciate that my man 🙏 his career was amazing and he is so underrated I wanted to remind everyone just how good he was
Please do a video on Jose Mourinho covering his childhood to present day. Thank you very much!
Amazing as always brother !! Always looking forward to your vids! Never disappoints!!
Thank you my man 🙏 means a lot, hoping I can keep making high quality ones for yall to enjoy
superb, was a hero of mine
Top top great player and manager. A gift to football. Loved watching him in my youth at his perk at AC Milian with those other two Dutch wizards .best team on earth. Superb player can play any style and win. Thanks for the documentary.
I genuinely asked myself what happened to him just the other week. Great video
Release another one I just love your videos man Keep up the good work 👏👏
Can you do a video on Roberto Baggio ?
I will definitely have to continue doing more on the old school greats and he will definitely have one! 🤝
Defensive mid one of the most underrated positions in soccer
I loved this dude when I was a kid but god damn Raymar, I had nooo idea he had it like this homie! Amazing vid!
Please make a video on Steve McManaman...
The first English player to win the UEFA Champions League with a non-English club in 2000, and the first English player to win the Champions League twice.
I truly enjoyed this one!!! Never realized all the accomplishments Rijkaard has achieved… great video brother! Still waiting on Zlatan vid lol!!
Appreciate it brother Alarik 🙏 Yeah he’s an extremely underrated legend, probably one of the best CDMs of all time for how good he was at everything. That will happen I promise 😂😂😂 Man keeps on playing but when I make the vid it’ll probably be my longest (18-20 mins at least) haha
One of my favorite player in PES, after playing this game 🎮 i can feel how good was Rijkaard, Gullit & Van Basten..they are underrated and people don't remember them as a great players.
If it wasn't for PES I wouldn't know a lot of underrated legends 🔥
Hahaha PES and FIFA introduced me to many of the old legends as well when I was younger 😂
Yes he was one of the best in the world of football...we will forever missed him in the game of soccer.⚽️⚽️⚽️🙏🙏🙏
Rikaard was sensational as a footballer. I grew up watching him and he set the pace for defensive midfielders before we had Makele, Viera, Kante and others.
He better than of them?
@@kamalhessan6587 I think so.
I finally catched up to all ur vids now I’m on the latest ur stories are really good I would like to see a vid on van dijk or salah or any Liverpool players as I think they deserve it
Wow just wow, didn't really know about his early career, nice vid ❤️💯
@@RaymarFootball I really appreciate how u allot your time to not just read but also reply to comments.. Thanks a lot bro.. Love from India🇮🇳
Amazing video! Love seeing Rafael Marquez whenever Barcelona comes up lol
I knew him as a player his potential but had no idea about him as a manager true legend
I remember when I worked as a waiter at an event. Rijkaard was there with his wife. Of all the people who walked there he came to me 1 on 1. And he asked how I was. It was a very easy conversation. I stood with a big smile for the rest of the day. He made me feel special.
Fun fact is that Gullit and van Basten are/was also football manager, without great success.
Because they didn't have character
fun fact; they also moved to the netherlands together and their dads were best friends
Rijkaard ...Gullit...van Basten...it was during this time I started following AC Milan ...still my fav team.
Undeniably class player - except when he spat in Ruddi Voëller’s beatiful perm.
As a coach at Barça we all had this feeling he was very calm, then maybe just relaxed, well perhaps too relaxed… hey? Frankie? What’s that smell in your office?
Great vid. I would love to see a vid on my favorite all-time player, El Pibe, Carlos Valderrrama.
I always preferred the Rijkaard barsa as the Pep one, Rijkaard was the creator of the team and had a more direct game, Pep found a champions team and just fixed the drunk pieces, giving a style that personally I do not like: pass, pass, pass....The more aggressive game of Rijkaard was better for me
Good vid, Rijkard does not get enough attention, he was as you say one of the best DM ever, he's better than Mattheus and Gullit.
I just hope he's okay & enjoying his existence & not facing some serious problem alone.
Great video but would’ve been even better if you could’ve done some cheeky journalism into where hes at, what he does now etc.. the story was so amazing it needed abit more information towards the end
This man on the field was special it's okay if he bows out unnoticed it's ok😊🎉❤
I remember him visiting my local korfball club watching his son play the match.
Such an underrated player!
And I think there is more charm in the Frank Ronaldinho approach than to sell out to the MLS or Asian leagues in the heydays of your career...
that’s pretty awesome! haha
The players from surinamese descent in dutch football is are a lot of football legends
One of the greatest all round players of all time ....underated.
From suriname 🇸🇷
Great work obtaining these footages.. he got mad skillz
very underrated! imagine those skills on a CDM today who could defend as well as he did
@@RaymarFootball tall, agile and goal scorer.. amazing video 👍love the footages
I'm pretty sure you weren't watching Barca at this time, using phrases "maybe he was tired" "He didn't freshen the team"
Frank DID bring in signings, can you name even five without googling?
