Bob Uecker is crazy and I love him. I had a good laugh. How he can tell these stories with a straight face is beyond me. If I ever had dinner with Mr. Baseball I'm sure I would choke on my food and wine would come out of my nose.
@rickcicalo410 "I'm sure I would choke on my food and wine would come out of my nose." That actually happened to me when I met Bob. Which is funny when you think about it, because I was drinking beer. Today I have my own church.
Cool to hear this one, Bob’s just great. I understand his not feeling proud of it, but that wasn’t just anybody who made that play! I’ve been a lifelong Reds fan cause my dad’s from Cincy, but I was born and raised and still live in Arkansas, which is also the home of Brooks Robinson. His performance against the Reds at the 1970 World Series and the subsequent laudatory remarks he received from Tony Perez, Pete Rose, and Sparky Anderson make for an exciting piece of history for me as I love the Reds and I love Arkansas. And the baseball history of Arkansas/baseball history related to Arkansas. Which is rich, despite the lack of a major league team. I was born in El Dorado, AR because my dad was able to get a good job there just before I was born. Coincidentally, it’s also the birthplace of one of his favorite non-Reds when he was a kid, the base burglar, Lou Brock, whom he had met and got an autographed T-shirt from as a kid. Each of these guys were/are very admirable players and people, (although I do get a kick out of stories about Bob’s consistently foul mouth)
@@googoo-gjoob Well, it was more than his birthplace. I live less than a mile from the old ballpark where he played, operated the scoreboard, and worked concession and where kids still play today. I graduated from the same high school as he did here in Little Rock. He went to church in the neighborhood I live in. I believe he came back here some after his professional career. I worked in a donation center in an adjacent county, and a few years ago, a signed ball showed up in donations. But I know what you mean. You’re right about where he made his home
@@benjaminhehemann8392, agreed. i over simplified. you had his first18 years. we had the next 68. but i genuinely believe the values instilled in him while he was there were what endeared him to us.
@@googoo-gjoob heck yeah, that’s cool you say that. I went to Baltimore once when I was kid, and I remember liking it a lot. I can’t remember if we caught an Orioles game or not. I remember getting an Orioles shirt at least. And I got one other unrelated reason Maryland seems like a cool place to me. There’s some great early underground heavy metal bands from there. But anyway, I appreciate the Arkansas appreciation
I found this snippet and another one of similar length of Bob Costas with Bob Uecker talking about Hank Aaron, both showed FOX Sports Wisconsin. Is there any more to this interview than the (less than) three minutes?
Don't listen to this multiple times, like I did, thinking you missed something. You DID miss something! You, like me, were suckered by storytelling. As Costas said, "It's KIND OF amazing ... I'm surprised I hadn't heard about that before." Well, yeah. LOL. Oh, what a one-of-a-kind gem that baseball -- and sport -- has had in Uecker.
lmao, when uke tells one you know it's going to be good, "it's the only 5 (3rd baseman) unassisted play at first base ever." love bob's "surprised i hadn't heard about that before."
How is this even possible? The distance from third to first is 50% longer than the distance from home to first. How does Uecker who has a running start get there slower than Brooks who is in foul territory on his side to the left of Third Base?
1971 Baltimore was the defending world champions, playing at Fenway Park. My father and I got there early and were at the street when Baltimore's bus arrived. They all came off the bus wearing suits or sports coats. They gave the appearance of complete class and inspiration. My Dad and I were big fans of Brooks because of the great defense.
The clip of Brooks making that play is amazing but, it would have been better if the person they showed running to first base wasn't African-American! I never knew Bob was Trans Racial.
Unless Uecker was crawling on his hands and knees to first base, there's no way a guy laying in foul territory off the third base line is going to beat him to first base. Even if it was Usain Bolt.
I have seen before where a player had trouble getting the ball out of the glove and threw the entire glove to first with the ball in it, but that was a pitcher doing it.
Wow. That’s amazing, that’s impossible, that’s crazy, that …..is almost as good as the no hitter I threw in the College World Series. In a blinding snow storm. While tripping on acid.
What is Bob trying to say here Brooks ran over and tag first base in ?? Hey Bob where'd you go for happy hour the day before or should I say the day of, I Believe Brooks would have thrown him out but not run from third base to first base I believe that's what he's trying to say LOL!! Look at the look of bob face says it all
Both Bob Uecker and Brooks Robinson were slow or not fleet of foot. I do remember however watching Brooks Robinson beat out a bunt circa 1975. That was a rare feet to get to see and to see it in person at a game.
That's complete BS. It's physically impossible for anyone, even Brooks Robinson, to dive into foul territory on the third base line, then get up and run across the diamond and beat anyone, ANYONE.... To first base. Why wouldn't he just throw it to Boog Powell, the first baseman? The video shown here during his story is NOT the play Uecker is describing. Note how he made it an exhibition game, back from the 60s, so he knows there'd be no video of it. Loveeee you Uecker, but not this time! Look at Costas' reaction. He's biting his tongue to not call BULLSHIT! LOL
I think Robinson stopped at the dugout first to get a clean jersey.
Just when you think you've heard all of Bob Uecker's best stuff, he comes racing over from third to crack you up all over again!
Gotta admit, he had me going there
The funny thing is Brooks Robinson was that good #RIPBrooks😢

Bob Uecker is the undisputed Godfather of baseball stories. A funny, funny man.
As people used to say to Maxwell Smart, "I find that very hard to believe."
If Uecker was pressed on this story, he’d readily admit it wasn’t that Brooks Robinson was so fast, but Uecker was so slow!
Brooks Robinson's hustle! RIP
Tell ‘em the truth Bob...that was the tail end of a double play!😆
5 unassisted at first. XD
Lol
Uecker is a funny guy.

He missed his calling as a used car salesman
Brooks was pretty good, and it was a spring season game, but you never know if Eucker is pulling your leg. Funny story.
