Mike and Ginger check out Devin Townsend's quarantine performance of Why. ~~~Get exclusive content on Patreon at / mikeandginger Twitter / playitagainmg
This was really early in the quarantine. He has since done a few concerts with a full band (and he has a Halloween show this weekend where he plays all of the instruments). Devin does everything. If you want to hear something light, try Blackberry or maybe Mountaintop (from his band Casualties of Cool). If you want something epic and positive but heavier, watch his live performance of 'Grace' from Retinal Circus. He has lost some friends to suicide and a lot of his recent work has been an affirmation of choosing life even when it sucks or it's hard. Devin doesn't make death metal, he makes life metal. This song Why came right after the craziest hardcore metal song Devin has done in several years ('Hear Me'). I think the line in Why that makes some people laugh is directly a comment on not killing yourself. Why run away....when we can just walk away? We're all going to get there eventually, why run? Just take each day as it comes and learn to deal with whatever your reality is and keep on living. His music has gotten me through some tough times and I can't think of an artist I relate to more in terms of being around the same age.
This is part of why his music is so enjoyable, is that it's really unpredictable. Devin is like a palette of color, he's got songs and albums that cover almost each and every moods you could be in, so it really depends to what you're looking for. I'd say that "Mountain top" dunlop session is an absolute must listen to, covers a very different spectrum from what you've heard him do so far, and his beautiful !
Oh you ain't seen nothing yet! He can go even heavier than kingdom and softer this one. Extreme Metal, orchestral, Ambient, progressive, country, jazz, and this Disney type tune you name it, he's got em all! Also i highly recommend you check out the music video for this one, it's really good. Good reaction 👍🏽
Loved seeing you guys enjoy watching this. He had his 5th quarantine concert this weekend. Devin's Crappy Halloween Party, where he played songs he hasn't performed a lot. You might enjoy Pixillate of that setlist. He's got a "band" this time (the bassist, keyboardist and drummer are all him with a wig on)
Good one guys. Glad you liked it. The many faces of Devin Townsend😁😁😁. The king of the camera controler🤣🤣 This would be a great next one to react to of Devy. Definitely put this one on you list. "Deadhead" Devin Townsend Live Plovdiv (Blu-Ray) ua-cam.com/video/vU-GP41LeSY/v-deo.html His best version of Deadhead is at the Royal Albert Hall, but it's getting blocked all the time. Something to do with the promoters. Anyhow, this one is a close second and the fact that it has the full orchestra as well makes it brilliant
If you haven't watched/reacted to his official lyric video of "March of the Poozers" yet, you really should check it out. "Humans hand over your coffee!!!!!!" It's insanity on steroids. And in keeping with the season, "Vampira".
There is also a brand new video of this song during a live full band performance in London. Really great. Also I suggest checking out an official video of his song Stormbending. Great song.
This is from his latest studio album, Empath. I just bought the Blu-ray of the live show he did at The Roundhouse in London last December, "Order Of Magnitude - Empath Live Volume 1". I could not get there to see it in person, so this is the next best thing.
I was lucky enough to see him at the Cardiff show of the Empath tour. The whole band were amazing and Devin had the crowd eating out of his hand.He performed this song whilst pirouetting around the stage in a black tutu. They also did a stunning version of Deadhead and a great acoustic version of Spirits Will Collide.I'm just sorry I never got to see him with Devin Townsend Project. The guy is a truly unique talent.
Thanks so much for reviewing this. I think I was one of the requesters for this. So many are used hearing his heavier songs which have a mixture of his clean sound and focal scream and Fry. This song allows you is here the wonderful range and tone that he has
"I know he plays instruments too" really doesn't cut it. He often plays everything and sings everything on the track during early production, or "demo" phase, it's only the final versions and live shows where other artists come in. The Devin Townsend Challenge is a good reprisentation of that in a limited time if you have 3 hours going spare.
Fun reaction, see we were not lying - After Disney song, what about him together with his band and Anneke Van Giesbergen (ex The Gathering) DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT - Awake ('BY A THREAD' Concert Series)
Sorry to nitpick but I hate it when people say it's a Disney song. It definitely sounds like it could be but Devin himself says he's not a huge fan of Disney and this song was inspired by Broadway music which is something he loves but was always afraid to sing.
@@MikeandGinger Great reaction as always guys.If you get the chance you should also check out his performance of Why with full band on his last tour(Empath). It's epic, hilarious and a must if you want to see Devin rockin a tutu Lol.
Hell yeah!! Try "life" and "funeral" from plodiv or "Numbered" and "hyperdrive" and "The Mighty Masturbator" live from By a thread next...all incredible
Deven admits in his interview that he has the condition Synesthesia as he is questioned how he can compose so well without much music theory. Please see "Deven Townsend Blows our mind - Pedal Show". The interviewer is satisfied this explains what was curious.
He's definitely class. Great singer, songwriter & lyricist with a lot of humor. You've GOT to check out the "Dark Matters" part of the Z2 double-album. Hilarious concept/story. 😀
Hallo, my Devy journey begins for two weeks. But, i hear since many more. so many awesome Songs..The older Fans told you more. Funny my first Song i hear , Kingdom, and the second Why?, (QS)..
having no idea of his back catalog and doing 'why?' does invoke the question... however very cool to see with only 'kingdom' as the comparison. that being said, empath, the album this track is from, IS a great all inclusive journey into said back catalog, while being wholly original.
Dein Townsend is one of the most versatile artist out today. Just in Time for Halloween you need to check out "Vampira" ua-cam.com/video/cjjIna3j1Nc/v-deo.html. Its amazing how he can make something so heavy, so funny at the same time! Check out how many views it has. It's literally a cult classic.
Hi guys! I will suggest rather different artist. Her named is AURORA. She is a norwegian multiartist and sing a pop but it is on a hole another level than other mainstream artist. Her exterior is like an norwegian elven but her voice is more of a siren. She sing about life struggles and environment and never do bland performances. I will suggest. Through the eyes of a child vevo stripped live. This is a acapella version and prepare to a beauty song with holebody goosebumps experience.. Sorry about my bad english. I come here for my favourite male performer Devin and a ending to you two lovely guys. Subscribe of course. 🍀🍀🍀
Devin is AWESOME! I have so much fun watching his videos. Just a little tickler... I'm sure she's on the list somewhere. Don't forget about Beth Hart's Am I the One at the Paradiso. ua-cam.com/video/5Ro191bgp7k/v-deo.html You guys will definitely fall in love with her!

He mostly makes heavier music but Devin can and will do almost anything. Enjoyed your reaction guys
I mean, "Genesis" is pretty much literally everything in one song xD
@@AlfredSoul was just about to say this. Genesis is literally the entire album in 1 song
Devin Townsend is the greatest musician on the planet. His mind-blowing voice is just one aspect of his unparalleled genius.
Ok I can see that we can't look away from him or we'll miss something. Clever of him.
“Genesis” live from roundhouse is amazing and “deadhead”, “death of music” from royal Albert hall are great
This is part of why his music is so enjoyable, is that it's really unpredictable.

I found him recently from another reactor and I'm now definitely a fan. What a voice!
This man is beyond genius. I appreciated watching his quarantine videos. Made it somewhat bearable.

You guys are awesome ... Hails from Italy

Grace, from the live retinal circus show. Devin sings heavy metal gospel. you have not heard anything like it, I am sure.
People don't call him the Jim Carrey of metal for nothing.
Hell yeah!! Try "life" and "funeral" from plodiv or "Numbered" and "hyperdrive" and "The Mighty Masturbator" live from By a thread next...all incredible
The. Best. Princess. Evuh. Hevy Devy. Period. 🤘 great channel.

🤘🇫🇮 Nightwish - LOLLL darn, he's good! And he does what's important - make everyone smile (or laught)...

Hallo, my Devy journey begins for two weeks. But, i hear since many more. so many awesome Songs..The older Fans told you more. Funny my first Song i hear , Kingdom, and the second Why?, (QS)..
If you want to take some acid without actually taking any I suggest Devin's official video of "Genesis"!
I hear a bit of Roy Orbison in his voice in certain parts.
Gotta love controlling everything with a gamepad.
His fan-cam was even better!
having no idea of his back catalog and doing 'why?' does invoke the question... however very cool to see with only 'kingdom' as the comparison. that being said, empath, the album this track is from, IS a great all inclusive journey into said back catalog, while being wholly original.
