- I posted this video as I felt this wooden rose would make the perfect gift for someone that has really left things to the last minute. It is quick, simple, easy and cheap but looks and seems really heartfelt and sincere. This unique gift idea requires minimal tools and would be perfect for him, her or whomever in your life. Perfect as a Valentine, anniversary, birthday or simple wedding present.
Wow, just wow! I think I will give it a try for my wedding aniversary
Hello, I love how you made the flower. It looks super natural and delicate. Could you make a video showing how you glue the petals step by step? it is very interesting
I'm glad you liked it Valeria. There's no great mystery to it really. Either super glue or hot glue work equally well.
Absolutely gorgeous ❤️
Thanks Diane!
Du beau travail, tout en finesse❤ j'adore ... grand bravo 👍
Masterful stroke with the plane
WoW....THANK YOU this is SO inspirational....I can’t wait to have a go as it’s our daughters birthday next weekend and she adores Roses. Once again THANK YOU. XX
Really glad you liked it Gail. Although I guess it's more important she likes it! Hope it goes down well for you!
You have really good hands on you. I have just found your channel when I searched for inlay ideas and wish there were a lot more videos because I'm really enjoying myself here. Brendan.
Thanks very much. Ha. Well definitely stick around because I have plenty more videos recorded that I need to get around to editing. And a few of them were pretty large scale inlay projects too!
Love this!
Thanks, real glad to hear that!
Try using a dead twig or small branch instead of the cut out
Hey Beverly. You know I actually tried that with the first ever one I did and really didn't like the look. The wood kinda stained were I took the bark off. I guess leaving the bark on might make for an interesting look too though.
*crosses fingers* please let this be made with tools I have. PLEASE!!!!!!
Молодец!!!!
Awesome! What kind of wood did you use for the leaves and the stick?
Ah thanks man. The stem is walnut, and the petals were just white deal. Any soft wood would probably work so long as you can take a pretty thick shaving.
Awesome =)
Thanks man, really glad you liked it!
Ya know what would be awesome, if you stabilized the whole thing, it’d be much stronger and heavier, you could even do some kind of color for the peddles if you want.
Ya I have always thought about something like that. Or maybe encasing it in resin. I have sprayed some of them red before and that turned out pretty good too.
Is the wood you’re using pretty dry? I’ve been working on some of these using some nice magenta colored cedar and I’ve been having issues with my shavings cracking. Any suggestions for particular types of wood?
Hey Jesse. Ya its normal kiln dried wood, walnut for the handle and just regular pine for the petals. Ya I've had some problems with them cracking on me before too. I've dipped them in water for a second before trying to bend them, seemed to help. Hope they work out for you!
Awesome! What kind of adhesive are you using here.
Hey Jessie, glad you liked it. I've found super glue and hot glue both seem to work well.
Hi I want to ask what type of hand planer did you use to get these wide shavings or is it only affected by the wood? Any recommendations?
Hey, it was just an old Stanley hand plane. You can't go too far wrong with a Stanley. As for the wood, I've found the softer the better. I just used plain old pine here.
Just a quick question, how durable is it and is there a way to make it more solid because I'm doing a woodwork project and I thought I could use that as a doorknob
Ya it would definitely be too fragile for a door knob. Maybe with a really sharp plane you could make the petals out of a hardwood and that might be a little stronger but definitely not enough. The only ways out of it I could see would be to carve the rose from solid or else cast one of these roses in a see through resin.
Hope that helped!
Really like your bench, what make is it?
Dinger
Thank you very much. It's actually one I made myself about a year ago. I would like to do a video in the future about its features and possible upgrades.
Beautiful well done very creative I have to sub , this one is a must have a go of that . I wish it was a bit longer I could have watched you then petals all day . Brilliant the way it came together. What were the woods you used? Out of interest
Glad you liked it David, and thanks for the sub! I found a soft wood like pine worked best for the petals and I used walnut for the stem, but that was just for contrast really.
Any other questions feel free to ask.
That Special Kind of Stupid I don’t know how you don’t have 300,000 subscribers you content is v.good . I have watched a few and you do take on meticulous tasks fair play. I do notice you like to work with a lot of thin materials. I think leave the work zone for wedges and invest in a bandsaw . My space is 9’x11’ so my choice if machinery was limited. A 16” bandsaw was my only machine 12” depth of cut you would. Rip 2mm stock all day plus the amount of material you would save , I break every component down rough and dimension from there by hand .an Mft top for sheet goods and a couple of routers . All the best mate
Haha. Ya 300k would be ideal, only need to get 10,000 times bigger 😂. Ya man I'm saving up for more heavy duty stuff at the moment.
What type of wood did you use? It's beautiful!
Thanks Steve. Really glad you liked it. The stem is made of a scrap of walnut I had lying around and the petals are just simple old pine. The pine can be bent pretty easily especially if dampened!
Oh yeah. Great. Way to make us all look bad 😔😂
Ah sure look, it's a great way to look very impressive, but actually is pretty easy to do!
That music has to go! im ready to jump off a cliff
Harsh but fair I guess!
What's wrong with your voice, use it, I don't watch videos with only visuals.
