Woodworking | Easy Wooden Flowers From Hand Plane Shavings - Valentines Project
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 лют 2022
- In this video I make my version of a wooden flower from hand plane shavings. There are 2 in the photos at the end, the first was a test and I filmed the second. It was difficult to get my hands out of the camera view and still place the petals but hopefully you can get the idea and try some of your own. Please give the video a thumbs up or down and leave a comment as this really helps to promote. I hope you enjoy this video, thank you to all who watch!

Narrator (with a Sir David Attenborough-like voice): “On those long cold Canadian nights, with curling on the TV in the background, Lewis proceeds to make some lovely wooden flowers for his missus for Valentines Day..”. Nice job! I wonder how some leopard wood or other highly figured exotics would look?
Haha thanks Todd! I tried purpleheart but couldn’t get a proper shaving. You could make a great bouquet using several woods for sure. Thanks for watching!
Very nice Lewis
Thank you Dave, I appreciate it!

Absolutely brilliant Lewis, the patience of Job
Thanks Brent! It wasn’t as tedious as it looks actually, I just have fat fingers! Thanks for watching!
I used to make copper roses in tech school. Same idea but diffrent in ways. You make 4 petals all at the same time with diffrent size "pattern". I just draw the pattern out. The stem was a piece of 1/4" copper tubing with a couple leaves brazed on. And a small decorative button to cover the one screw that holds it together. I could spend a whole day on a single flower bending the pedals on the vice to look natural. Hard to make much money doing it but great for a gift for a loved one
I’ve seen videos of those and I want to try one! You are right, you don’t do them for the money! Thanks for watching!
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful 🌞

Thank you Kathryn! I appreciate it!
WOW, absolutely gorgeous. They look so real and the best thing is, they don’t need water. It looks like you used maple, is that correct? Keep up the good work.

Very Inventive what a great idea and judst what I need to enhance my vases! Well Done and thabk you for sharing. Do you finish the flowers with anything?
Thanks Brian! I didn’t put anything on them yet but I may give them a spray of lacquer. Thanks for watching!
Very cool idea and nicely done. Did you put any finishing on them?
I haven’t used a finish yet but am considering spray lacquer. Thanks for watching!
Is that a blackthorn stem? Lovely touch.
That is off a very overgrown rose bush at my fathers. Thank you for watching Sean!
Some serious time in this Lewis. How many pedals are in each flower? I’d love to try it and maybe even dye the wood
It’s actually not that bad time wise. Someone with smaller hands would be much faster I think. I believe there are 20-24 petals in each but you can go more it less, whatever catches your eye. Thanks for watching!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
beautiful! What type of wood did you use? I have made a few of these. Cedar makes nice variegated petals. I tried purple heart, but could not get decent shavings. I did use the whispy PH shavings by gluing them in a pile on a base piece and pouring epoxy over. Turned them as bottle stoppers - turned out to be my big seller item. I've since made quite a few Sola Wood flowers, but haven't tried them in epoxy yet. love your channel btw
Thank you Sheila! These are maple. I tried purpleheart and couldn’t get a shaving as well! Thanks for watching!
I’m a rookie at this, but what are PH shavings…
And Sola wood
I think she meant HP (hand plane) shavings.
@@TheKlondikeCraftsman nope, meant Purple Heart 🙂
What scissors and other tools are you using?
Hey Dan, these are just regular household scissors and a standard hand plane. Nothing fancy at all.
Thank you for watching!
