Unboxing my new Shimano Sahara RD Reel 3000S

- I have recently sold my iPhone and reinvested the money in to some new fishing tackle. My first purchase is that of a Match fishing reel. All though it is listed as a spinning reel in some places it does both. My last Shimano Sahara 3000 lasted somewhere between 15-20 years and really proved to be a workhorse for me. It’s demise came from me abusing it with 80lb power pro braid and 100g+ lures in my early Piking years. It still managed these for years and so from the history and reliability of that reel I ordered the newer version. I’d recommend these all day long.

I've got 2 2500r saharas, I love them, so smooth and cool looking.
Absolutely mate, very underrated 👍
I needed a new reel for my Rosemeijer canal rod and took the plunge and got the 2500 version based on this video. Well it was sound advice and I bought another for my G-Lite spin, can not beat the old Gold n Black mucker 🎣
Great review thanks! I just bought the 2500 model in Canada. Looking forward to it! If I like it as much as you I might get the 3000 too. Rear drag are becoming obsolete.
Fantastic to hear 👍 I hope it serves you well
I like the look of that fighting drag, colour looks great. Good review
Stewart Hale thanks Stewart 👍
Nice reel mate,I am going to get the 4000 ,I have the sedona 2500 with the rear and fighting drag, a bit of a hidden secret the fighting drag function, once you get familiar with it, it is the best thing ever and I would never go back.Absolutely fantastic. Also a big Hi from Australia and have subbed! All the best mate.
Hi James, thank you so much for watching. Yeah, I love these reels. The fighting drag is a great feature I think 👍
Looks an interesting reel. Explained very well. Thanks.
Vincent Donnelly thanks Vincent, first time doing a review rather than use in the field so to speak. A bit weird but hey ho
Great review man , thank you for the info !
I'm considering getting the double handed version for my match rod. I hope it will be a good choice !
todor kafedjiev Thank you 👍
they are a brilliant reel, either way I’m sure you’ll love it 👍
Great review. Nice reel too.
robbiefishing cheers Robbie 👍
I have the Sahara 2500 R thinking about getting this one
Hi Tina, sorry for the late reply but I didn’t get a notification of your comment. They are a great reel 👍
Cool. Nice one mate
Snagged Bro cheers lads
Regarding Super Stopper (or Infinite Anti Reverse) and “cheap” reels not having it. Before that was invented, every reel had the old system, even expensive ones. I’m still using a Daiwa from the 80’s that doesn’t have infinite anti reverse and it was an expensive reel, like the Michell 300s and Abu Cardinals.
There is a lot to say for old tackle
Still enjoy!
Great review mate. That fighting drag sounds interesting. I take it they don't have that system on the front drag models
BUSHCRAPPING thank you 👍 The front drag has only the adjustment to release the spool or adjust the tension, no rear drag
Hi BCP, I know this is an old video but how did you get on with this reel? Is it still in service and do you get it out on the bank much? I noticed in your more recent videos that youre using either a Daiwa Ninja or Fox Rage Prism X or something. Being an old school carp angler, I love being able to set the drag from the back of the reel.
Im interested to know your opinions on both the Sahara and what you use now and if your opinions have changed since 2018. Shimano always has made some quality stuff!
Hoping to see more videos from you soon!
Hiya, I use this reel if ever I trot in the river or tench and canal fishing. In my opinion they are fantastic and very underrated. I’m sure they are still in production or a similar model. As for my current lure reel it is a Diawa ninja 4000 and no complaints so far. When I first started lure fishing I used an old shimano Sahara then. Eventually I killed it 😂 still coped with pike up to 16lb though.
Ive just bought the 2500 and 5hat doesn’t have anti reverse on which came as a shock ( not fished for 30 odd years) but its so smooth it would have given my old mitchell match’s a run
They are awesome reels Nick, even without the anti reverse I’m sure you’ll love it 👍
Black Country Piker separate question... where do you get the pike flies from?
Nick Trotman if your on Facebook or Instagram look up MScustomFlies 👍
@@BlackCountryPiker I liked these reels so much I bought a second one for float fishing :D
They are lovely to use aren’t they 👍
Good choice
Solaris Fishing 👍 I only hope this one lasts as long
Nice reel buddy
Rods & Rollers Uk cheers matey, I can’t wait to get it out 👍
Just need to see it with a barbel on the other end now! Enjoy and thanks.
Dave Cockayne this will mostly be for tench, silvers and canal carp. I’ll be using my old shimano 6000’s on my new Korum twin tip for the barbel 👍 I hope
thanks for video, i purchased the DH version. Looking at the spool it seems to taper off very quickly. where do you stop when adding line? the none tapered part seems very small
Hi Shaun, sorry for the late reply. You wouldn’t go further than the lip of the shallowest part of the spool
@@BlackCountryPiker thank you
Nice one...
Bob Redding thanks Bob 👍
