About me:
My name is Anthony Chisnall. I'm a musician & songwriter.
My channel is these things:
1. A place to share my music - both songs and instrumental pieces. Much of the music I write features in...
2. Tutorial videos about music composition and production
3. An outlet for me to discuss all things musical - including technical break-downs of software and tools that I use, as well as more wide-ranging discussions of topics that interest me.
I play the guitar (electric, acoustic, and bass), and record all of my own synth-based sounds myself too, but I can't sing very well (huge understatement!), and so my wife, Pauline, who has a lovely singing voice, has come to my rescue. You'll hear her on all of my songs.
All of my music is written in Steinberg's Cubase (currently Cubase 12).
I try very hard to make my videos PRACTICAL and no-nonsense - if I don't use a feature, I'm not going to waste your time trying to sound like an expert on it! This is the stuff I use day-to-day, so I think that's also what you'd like to hear me talking about.

Another useful video that will save me a lot of time and effort when I'm at the 'fiddling about' stage of what I loosely refer to as my 'process'.😊 Thanks again!
Best Cubase videos on YT by a mile (well…honourable mention to Dom!) - I have spent a lifetime in teaching and I can tell you that you are a natural and gifted teacher. Perfectly judged length and pacing. Please keep on going with these excellent creations.
Wow, that's very kind of you to say, thank you :)
Great video, interesting ideas, thanks.
It was a nice surprise to see the "create lanes from versions" at the end. Very important to make it all the way through the video to find that Easter egg.
It wasn't intentionally buried (although I appreciate you watching the whole thing)!
Thank you! Really helpful, as always.
I do like your musical style by the way! 🙂
Cool, thanks for the feedback :)
interesting, I didn't know that we could link versions like that.
Great video Anthony! Lately you have been producting a lot of very practical but really useful videos about more obscure features, and it's fantastic!
Pro tip for film/video game composers: did you know that you can actually create multiple cues inside one Cubase project using this? The tempo track, video track and everything else all have Track Versions! It's a really deep feature almost no one knows about just how useful it is! You can even switch cues with hotkeys, changing everything at once. Nifty huh?
Much appreciated, thanks for the feedback :)
Very useful, as usual. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
QUESTION: at 17m25, if you clicked on B (id16) or A (id18), would the part (version B, now as a lane) that you moved horizontally to bars 13 to 20 disappear? It will return in the "memory" of the versions "depot"? Sorry for the non exact terminology, I think/hope will understand my question... (would have loved to see the result at this time!). Nice good presentation as always, and nice meditative musical piece!
Yes, it would disappear. ids 16 & 18 have no data after bar 13 - all those edits were done on id 19. Sorry I didn't think to click on them to show that.
I'm using versions more and more, but I dislike that the version is not diplayed in the MIDI Editor, you never know which version you are editing.
It does seem like an unpolished area in general. Useful, but not amazing.
