@@markreed3160 I can tell you my reasons, I grew up in Hayward CA early 70's late 60's. With 8 siblings I never had a chance to go to a game in Oakland. During this game and the next I was attending Northrop University just a stones throw from this stadium. I worked on weekends in the dorm dining facility to help pay for school. Many of the Dorm residents were from the east coast and were very convinced that the Raiders were not supposed to make it to the Super Bowl. I allowed them to watch the games in the dining room while I prepared the evening meal while I did my work during the SB. They were very obnoxious before the game and I took about $300.00 in bets. After the game they were so emotional tears even rolled .I didn't make them pay. Back to your question, without boring you with details my life after graduating has been about the same as the fate of Raiders. Now that I am an old guy whose glory days came and went too early and passed me by too quickly it takes a lot out of me to remember. I can only wish in one hand and spit in the other knowing which hand will fill first... No regrets. Well maybe a couple. Jamarcus comes to mind. Todd M too. Both were denied success in part due to grown ups not providing adequate guidance.

Marcus Allen was trying to make it with my girlfriend, she worked at Roy’s Mill on Pier avenue, in HermosaBeach,he came in for breakfast all the time, so she got me his autograph, and 4 tickets to Monday night game against Miami Dolphins, they beat Washington in the Super Bowl, and after the Seahawks beat down, I was on the goal posts on the front page of the LA Times the next day!!!!!! The crowd (not me) knocked over the goal posts, as you can see at the very end. I just pulled up a handful of the grass in the end zone that was painted silver. What a fun game to see live. I was hoarse for a week from screaming/cheering so loudly.
My dad and three cousins and I drove down to cheer on our Seahawks. As a young teen that was an eye opening experience seeing the fans after the game. We were up high at the opposite end of the field from where the goalpost was knocked down. We saw the officer get beaned on the head by a beer bottle someone threw down and get choppered out of there.

I was there. Drove down from Burlington WA to watch my Raiders get revenge for the 2 losses to Seattle earlier that season. This game was over before it started. The Seahawks were intimidated, scared, and way overmatched. The Raiders came out ready to beat some serious ass & they were not afraid to get a few personal fouls along the way. Lol
It was announced yesterday at the NFL HONORS that Tom Flores is going into the HOF as a coach!!! It's about time!! Also going into the HOF, Charles Woodson!!! We now need Cliff Branch and Lester Hayes in the Hall Of Fame ASAP!!!
This was the Raiders most dominant and talented team. If they had stuck with Plunkett a couple more years and Davis hadn’t blackballed Allen, the Raiders could have won another Super Bowl. The Raiders weren’t lacking talent in the 80’s.
I was in attendance with my mom, brother and aunt… along with 92k others. Great day!!. One of the most memorable parts of the day occurred in the aftermath. As the clock hit zero, NOBODY had left the game (out of character for LA crowds back then). What ensued was entertaining chaos involving LAPD in riot gear and on horseback trying to keep the crowd from tearing down the goalposts. Tackles made after the game by Event Staff rivaled that which occurred during it. Lol
I remember how important Plunkett was...anytime back up Mark Wilson had 2 come inn...was like a whole other team! Lester was the man...Kenny King was underrated ...he was big in big games! the 80s Raiders were just really good!...Marcus was so slippery when he ran...it looked effortless...so much talent!..now here we r n 2022 winning another one finally !
I watched this game in the rec room, B-4-2, SatCom school on Fort Gordon, GA. I remember thinking to myself that Dave Krieg ain't no Jim Zorn. Also the raiders OL didn't get away with holding, they got away with tackling. Still....Raiders won this game outright and fairly. Flores Hayes and Plunkett should all be in the HOF.
People forget about all time great defenses, this Raider team in 1983 had two of the best cornerbacks in the league, a ferocious defensive line, they can stop the run, great Lbs, they didn't have any weaknesses. It's one of the best defensive teams I have seen, they destroyed teams in that playoff run
My only complaint..... I wanted to see the halftime show!!! LOL. I could watch these old games all day long. This early 80's Raiders team was legendary
I was so bummed from the earlier game where the 49ers got ripped off by HORRIBLE officiating in Washington. I knew the Raiders would smoke the Redskins in SB 18 and they did. This Raider team was awesome.
I’ve never seen a cornerback as big as Lester, the guy was huge and how in the world was that passing interference at 5:56. This is textbook defense for a cornerback.
I was there as a kid. A lot of us Rush the field we pulled one goal post down. As they rushed towards the second goal post a number of cops with long billy clubs came out of the tunnel and stopped the crowd. What a crazy day.
I remember the last 4 games that year. They beat the Chargers 30-14 the last game of the year, the beat Pittsburgh 38-10 in the first playoff game, then this game they also won 30-14, and the won the Superbowl 38-9. Only a blocked extra point kept these last 4 game scores from being balanced. Damn you Don Hasselbeck!

Pete Rozelle despised Al Davis more than anyone. Several notable Raiders are not in the HOF because of it. Flores Branch and Hayes are notable omissions

The Might Oakland Raiders and their incipient Will to Victory! Man, they used to piss teams off! I will never forget the AFC Championship of 1977 when the half-assed Broncos ripped the Raiders off at the goal line on an obvious turn-over preventing perhaps the greatest Super Bowl showdown in NFL history: the Cowboys vs. the Raiders!
I can't watch old Raiders games.. I get so emotional because I love everything about the Raiders. Also it just reminds me of great times in my life and in America...
Raiders are still the most popular football team in LA. I grew up going to Raiders games at the coliseum. I can't believe they moved to Vegas!
Amen brother ! The Raiders AND the country were MUCH better back then.
why would i want to feel bad about Good times ? its about the
feeling that I felt ! anytime I want to feel like that , I can go back there . And grab that feeling again and be excited and happy ! Why would I not want to do that ?
Appreciate this post! I never saw this game!I was stationed in Beirut 19 yr old Army Private. Got to listen to the Superbowl on Armed Forces Radio !
I was there. Been a Raiders fan forever, it was a helluva year. That’s right, wearing my favorite flannel, because it was cool and misty that day. WHAT A FANTASTIC FOOTBALL YEAR!!!!
Damn! This defense is ruthless! We need this kine of defense in 2021 man !
Este equipo Los Ángeles Raiders 1983 rendía culto a su lema "Comprometidos con la Exelencia" valiosos todos y cada uno de sus jugadores, felicidades
6:02 Lester Hayes “bump” was a legit interception.
@Thegreatokie You weren't alone, after his 13 regular season INT's in 1980, The Judge would get flagged for PI or IC Illegal Contact if he so much as breathed on an opposing player.
Fr that “bump” wouldve been a no call even in today’s game😂
Lester Hayes was as good as there ever was! It’s a crime he is not in the hall of fame!
This game was played on January 8, 1984 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Later in 1984, the same stadium would host the 1984 Summer Olympics.
Here comes the TRUTH,... I just love RAIDER , 🏈 FOOTBALL 🏈
Love it! The sea chickens beat the Raiders both times in the regular season but the Raiders beat them when it mattered. Saved this to my phone
Why did the Raiders have home field then, if they got beat twice by the Seahawks and same record?
@@gambloduck6633
That's a good question. But, they said the sea chickens beat them both times that season. And, I remember being up in Seattle and a guy saying the same thing
@@gambloduck6633 the Raiders won their division - Seattle didn't.
@@gambloduck6633 It's called Seeding, division Champions get home field against Wild Card teams. Better OVERALL record12-4 versus 9-7, there's no way in hell the NFL will let a 9-7 team will host a 12-4 team in a Conference Championship game.
@@davidcobb2693 They had the SAME record. Get your facts in order. Must have been conference record, or division record prevailing tie breaker over head to head. If that game was in Seattle, no way they get so many no calls against Hayes and Mike Haynes when they grabbed receivers. Some questionable calls against Seahawks. Small markets didn't get any calls those days.
Being a lifelong Bronco fan this Raider defense was killer. They put Elway out of the game with a concussion when they played in Denver that season.
The Raiders have met each current & former division opponent in AFL Championship [KC 69'] AFC Championship [Den 77' SD 81' Seattle 83'] or SB[ TB]
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were a former AFC WEST member [1976] they've met in the Super Bowl obviously.
SD was the 80 season
i saw this game live . when you watch a game like this it lets everyone know why we are raider fans . the toughness and the physical nature of this team is the reason i became a raider fan .we had a good mix of youth and vets on that team that's how you become champions. and Al davis was all about toughness and never backing down that's the raider way and no other team was ever able to play this style of football.
McElroy, R.Martin, Lester Hayes...bad asses...😎🏈🏆....this new gen Raiders should learn from these guys, especially how to tackle.
I absolutely love this game.
One of the first one I watched (albeit via highlights in UK)
LA RAIDERS FOREVER!
being a Raiders fans through this era, I had mad respect for Krieg dude used to get pounded by the Raiders, grew up in Oregon and used to go to Seattle every year to watch them play the Raiders miss that rivalry,
I loved those old Seahawk uniforms!! Wish they would wear them again
" THAT'S A DAMM SHAME ! the announcer said in this game , "CLIFF BRANCH had the most playoffs yardage in NFL playoff history to that point, wow ! It took way too long , TO INDUCT " CLIFF BRANCH into the " HALL OF FAME. 🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
Yep, Tatum, Hayes, Christenson, Wiz should also be in....Raider haters.
As a 50 year raider's fan I wish they were still in Oakland, but at the same time I an honored for them to play in a great city like LA
We were youg, my father was still there, Raiders were winning, fantastic times!!
The '83 Raider's 3 postseason margin of victory: 106 to 19. (Steelers 38-10, Seahawks 30-14, Redskins 38-9.
Mr. Stickem Lester Hayes needs to be in the hall of fame as the hole team
Not the whole team?
I was at this game. We had seats in the stands at one end zone. I was one of those cretins running around on the field after the game.
@@VMac822 Don't ya just love us Raiders fans? lol
Not a fan any more. It was tough to root for them the last few years that Al owned them, it's totally impossible now that his nitwit kid is the owner.
Lol
The Raiders had the complete team that good offense & defense and of course Marcus Allen
It was announced yesterday at the NFL HONORS that Tom Flores is going into the HOF as a coach!!! It's about time!! Also going into the HOF, Charles Woodson!!! We now need Cliff Branch and Lester Hayes in the Hall Of Fame ASAP!!!
On the way to Tampa baby ( Flores after the game)
I forgot how good the raiders d was that year.Ted was an old school beast.should show this game to every rookie that walks in the building.
This was the Raiders most dominant and talented team. If they had stuck with Plunkett a couple more years and Davis hadn’t blackballed Allen, the Raiders could have won another Super Bowl. The Raiders weren’t lacking talent in the 80’s.
Thank you for posting this!
Those old Raiders they were scary good ... Just scary period
That's right Mr. Marcus Allen one of the best Ruinning back that ever played ▶️ 👏 🙌 👌
I just love Lester Hayes Facemask
I was in attendance with my mom, brother and aunt… along with 92k others. Great day!!. One of the most memorable parts of the day occurred in the aftermath. As the clock hit zero, NOBODY had left the game (out of character for LA crowds back then). What ensued was entertaining chaos involving LAPD in riot gear and on horseback trying to keep the crowd from tearing down the goalposts. Tackles made after the game by Event Staff rivaled that which occurred during it. Lol
Curt Warner was the leading rusher in 83 and this Raider D held him to 11 carries and 26 yards. What a team.
And 2 weeks later, they gave the diesel ( John riggins ) flat tires.
My Seahawks never had a chance! I was heart broken after this game.
I forgot how stacked that defense was.
I remember these games like yesterday
I remember how important Plunkett was...anytime back up Mark Wilson had 2 come inn...was like a whole other team! Lester was the man...Kenny King was underrated ...he was big in big games! the 80s Raiders were just really good!...Marcus was so slippery when he ran...it looked effortless...so much talent!..now here we r n 2022 winning another one finally !
Plesae don't mention the modern teams when referencing the ole Raiders.
Loved Enberg and Olsen
People forget about all time great defenses, this Raider team in 1983 had two of the best cornerbacks in the league, a ferocious defensive line, they can stop the run, great Lbs, they didn't have any weaknesses. It's one of the best defensive teams I have seen, they destroyed teams in that playoff run
My only complaint..... I wanted to see the halftime show!!! LOL. I could watch these old games all day long. This early 80's Raiders team was legendary
Merlin was fresh from Little House on The Prairie.
and Father Murphy
Hard to believe, Raiders haven't won a championship since that year..
I was so bummed from the earlier game where the 49ers got ripped off by HORRIBLE officiating in Washington. I knew the Raiders would smoke the Redskins in SB 18 and they did. This Raider team was awesome.
Who the Redskins play calling in super bowl 18 was the worst I've ever seen in sports
The Seattle Seahawks are the only franchise in the NFL to play in the AFC Championship (1983-84) & The NFC championship (2005-06) (2013-14 & 2014-15).
I was at this game...the last time both goal posts came down in an NFL game. 1 came down in Buffalo in 1990
I’ve never seen a cornerback as big as Lester, the guy was huge and how in the world was that passing interference at 5:56. This is textbook defense for a cornerback.
Beautiful D!!
2:28:48...Mickey Marvin being congratulated by some guy named Mark Davis.
Seattle Seahawks - The only team to have played in both an AFC and NFC championship game.
Once the Raiders acquired Mike Haynes at cornerback from The Patriots, they became unstoppable as a team.
Lester Hayes belongs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Lester was lights out in big games. It's a crime he's not in the HOF. And Cliff Branch, even more criminal.
Kory Malone probably because of the stick em he had on him before they outlaw it
@@rodjulius2745 Stick 'em was legal and lots of players used it - including Biletknikof who's in the hall. Of course, Hayes is black.
Kory Malone very true
I remember this day since the raiders did not sell out that day it was blacked out in la area could you imagine a playoff game blacked out in Los Angeles that's how it was back in those days thanks for bringing back some memories 👍👍
No, they lifted the blackout. I saw the game live here in LA and was loving it.
@@warlaker Me. too.

Rest in peace ✌️😊guys. Life is extremely short #!!💯😊☝️👌☝️!!!😊

Difficult to beat a great team 3 times in the same season. My goodness how good Merlen Olsen was as a "Color Commentator!" This was rough and tumble football before Lawrence Taylor.
LT was already in the league
Yeah, Taylor's rookie season was 1981.
Ooh bring back those Seahawk unis💯
Has any RB in NFL history ever had three games in the postseason like Marcus Allen had in January of 1984?? 121- yards /2TD against Pittsburgh,154Rush/62 Recand 1TD - Seattle and 191 and 2 TD in Super Bowl against Washington. Incredible performance!!!!!!! Sadly the Raiders haven’t won a Super Bowl in 40 years. Just heard Dave Kreig on the Mark Ryan Radio Program 12-27-2023 recounting the win over Miami on the road one week earlier. Didn’t hear him say he was pulled in the Raider game??
I was surprised to see a smaller crowd for this game than for the previous one versus Pittsburgh.
Krieg had a problem holding onto the ball. He took some horrendous hits! He was a very tough quarterback.
If the Seahawks had won this game, they'd be the ONLY team in NFL history to represent BOTH the AFC and NFC in the Super Bowl
Well the Seahawks are still the ONLY NFL team to play in both an AFC and NFC Championship game
The Colts represented the NFL and the Jets the AFL in SuperBowl3 ?...the Colts represented the AFC and the Cowboys the NFC in SuperBowl5.
Bro the Seahawks were NOT gonna win this game!
@@barrywoods5262 Well, the Browns played in the NFL Championship twice in the 1960s after the SB era started and then played in a couple of AFC Championships in the 1980s, so I don't think the Seahawk thing is a big deal.
Lester the Molester, Marcus Allen, Jim Plunkett...man, those were the days!!
What a Super Bowl it should have been 49ers vs. Raiders!
I was 17 , jumped on Mike Haynes back for about 20 yards after the game, on the field was crazy, best game I ever went to! Still have My ticket!
Seattle in the AFC? I never knew that. I wonder why they switched them to the NFC. I also really like these old Seahawks uniforms. Man I will tell you what though, the NFL was so much rougher back in these days it seems, so much more enjoyable to watch. The hits are so much harder, I love it.
They were in the AFC for a long time
Seahawks are the only team in NFL history to play in both the AFC and NFC championship games.
I was 20 years-old and watching this game on tv.
2:09:53 - 2:10:01 almost the exact same play that Marcus took for 74 yards in the SB against the Redskins a couple of weeks later.
17 Bob Trey O. Raiders ran that play for decades in different variations.
Die hard raiders fan, always watching old games from 70s and 80s. Were the raiders and seahawks comparable to any teams today as far as playoff rivals.
My nostalgia meter just blew up!
As a raider fan I say Jim zorn should had got the start
I agree
Zorn had a chance to keep his job but he had a 64 qb rating that year and a 4-4 record
Kreig had a 95 rating and rant the Ground Chuck offense better.
Jim zorn went to gahr high school. Socal dude
more than 5 HOFers on that team...love it..
