I felt the painting that Indira Varma chose for her own, was the best of the show. Interesting how many American artists and models are now being part of the show. The US should have their own version. It's a brilliant show. The two countries are indeed connected closely in so many infinite ways.
@@Amtcboy Agreed. And sure it would have been easier with the glasses, but it's still a failure on their part. The cartoonist clearly can't grab likeness beyond what a cartoon would do, the amateur painter did a very muddy, bulky, older character, and the very young watercolor artist did a very flat portrait with very generic eyes that wasn't close enough. To be honest they weren't the only ones, I wasn't impressed with any of the portraits of the younger male actor. Two portraits of the actress were wonderful, and then there was the surreal tricolor nonsense that could have looked like anybody. I keep wondering how such a limited selection of artists can be on average so bad at capturing likeness, and wondering if the judges have eliminated better but less original artists. EDIT: wow, just got the selection of 3, can't believe they didn't choose one of the two clearly superior portraits, those of the actress. It's like they don't care at all about likeness...
As much as I love the show, I tend to feel like I agree with Frank over the judges. Indira’s reveal was one the most exciting I’ve seen, yet none of them were short listed. I know opinions are subjective, but I almost always feel like some of the artists are jipped.
I totally agree! I thought the best two were paintings of Indira. I especially liked the smaller portrait of her to the right. Excellent! I can’t believe it wasn’t shortlisted.
Oh joy, a new posting of this series for all to view and disagree with those judges! Can life be any better during Covid! Thanks so much for this posting All Documentary; looking forward to season 03!
Charlotte's painting was clearly the best of all nine Her expressive color and brushwork is stunning. I'm shocked and upset she didn't even make the shortlist. I can't understand what these judges are thinking.
Once again it's all about "potential" and "promise". You automatically know who the judges are going to short-list. And the best artists are usually out of the running.
Mary Hill This series Inspires me. Thanks so much… no other tv show has me addicted like this one. I live abroad so I don’t have any exposure to British tv for a while. Please keep them coming!
I thought it was an injustice not to include the artist who painted the actress who chose his painting. I thought that was one of the strongest portraits in any heat of any season so far of the show. I also didn't think Charlie's painting merrited being in the top 3. It's very accomplished. I like it, but it simply did not look like the actor. He made him look much older. The winner Kimberly's painting was fresh and innovative, but once again weak when it came to likeness. Out of the top 3 I would have given it to the older gent. Thought his rendition of the actor was truly original. I just didn't care for his overly spread out legs in the pose. But other than that it was wonderful....
I usually agree with what these judges say but I highly disagree with not at least shortlisting any of the artists painting Indrina. They were clearly the best paintings of the day and usually the judges aren’t so focused on the self portraits of the artists at this stage
I don't understand the sheer stupidity of having a portrait competition in a venue that has a skylight where the light is constantly changing. Why would you do this to someone? However, I do love this show and I appreciate your posting it. Thank you
In plein aire painting, the sun moves and the artist or photographer must capture the light before it's gone behind clouds or below the horizon. The stupidity, if any, may be coming from a different source.
I freakin' love this series.....these people aren't talented....they're skilled. Talent implies ease, comes naturally....but skill says, hard word and mileage....great, great show.
The artists judge on more than just their technical ability, they’re looking for potential, they’re looking for new and fresh. You can be trained to play a piano but what makes it outstanding is the person who plays from their heart who goes beyond what they see. They’re aren’t just looking for what pleases the eye.
I can see the judges are looking for potential, as well as the finished product. I'm surprised at the choice this episode, but then that's my personal opinion. What's more important is the inspiration it infuses in me to try portraiture...and add it to my florals and landscapes. A whole another adventure in color!
@@diegoospina4237 Pienso lo mismo. Se nota claramente que desde el inicio ya eligen a los posibles finalistas, incluso a quien podría ganar, a pesar que el resultado del trabajo del probable ganador sea mediocre como en esta serie.
25:40 I actually said, "Wow!" quite loud... I can't wait to see that when it is finished. Wait... they're from Connecticut? Sally's family? That's amazing. I live right near them. She's very talented.
The artist who won is incredibly lovely but I will not choose her to do my portrait. Not even for the feel of unfinished, etc. I am very impressed with others though. Fun show.
I don't love this older format where they had 3 sittings and the talent looks at the works while in progress. Glad they changed both of those things since.
All three portraits of Freddie were really striking. Not sure anyone captured Stanley, though I liked the paintings themselves. I was fascinated by the "digital" portrait of Indira. Agreed with the judge's choices.
I love this show, everyone had different styles and techniques, textures etc..they only have 4 hours to finish the painting, it has to be distracting, all the other people like family & friends walking around talking to all the artists is challenging too..im curious and excited to see the end results ❤
I can do better portrait when I see the subject face to face and I wish that someday I could join to this prestigious portrait painting competition 😊🙏🙏🙏❤️
You know what? They should not give false hope to realism artists as they always pick the most quirky one anyways. This is exhausting to watch. The judges are very weird with their judgements
They got it wrong. A strong day but they selected the three weakest ones as the three finalists. The weakest painting won. I've noticed this pattern throughout the series. New judges please!
@@Watkinsstudio No. I then watched a mid-length movie starring Indira and she played a housewife in that movie, and I noticed she was barefoot almost the entire movie. Maybe it's just her thing.
Pretty terrible paintings this time. They look nothing like the sitters. The best paintings didn’t get to the top 3. I’m thinking they knew who was going to win no matter what.
This show gives false hope to realist artists as they are rarely selected to go though or win. The reason is to rake in as much money as possible from the artist applicants ; 1500 to 2000 apply at a time.
Indira's all 3 portraits were BEAUTIFUL!

I love this series also. I just wish the judges had as much talent for picking the best artist as the artist have in creating the art.
I have to be honest, I don't like that they asked Stanley Tucci to remove his glasses.
That was I thought part of his likeness 🤨

This series amazes me. I hate competition. I particularly dislike competition among artists. But this show has me in its thrall. Love it!
Agreed!!!
Competition brings out the best in some artists and results in some amazing work. There’s nothing wrong with it as long as the respect is there..🙏🏻👍🏻💕
I don't care about the competition itself. I just love seeing the different artist showing their work.

If they are calling this show portrait artist of the year then I'm sorry but I would not have known who the sitter was in any of the three they chose.
Yes!
Exactly! Terrible picks. And absolutely no likeness.
Correct

38:06 my favorite by far. The colors are extraordinary
Loved all the sitters and artist this episode
I am glad they changed the format slightly. We get a a much better feel for the artists in this new format.
