Who knows what the judges base their decisions on but it rarely coincides with the sitters’ choice. I do think they prefer the more contemporary style of painting but it all comes down to personal preference.
Don't usually agree with the judges, but I did here. Although I thought Tom could have been replaced by Josie. It's all subjective though, but worthy winner.
It looks like “A proper old master drawing” a term coming from a “renowned” art personality whose standards we have to comply with but then again I’m watching a “reality show” about “professional” and “novice” artists competing against each other.
I think they’re fine, I can imagine their role in the show might prove to be quite humbling, overcoming any pride or avoiding tyranny would be their personal lives challenge…and stepping back isn’t easy for some.
I was really hoping the producers would replace these judges. I've come to really dislike them. They are extremely narrow-minded. They dispise classical style. They wouldn't have chosen Rembrandt or DaVinci to make the top three. Last year's winner was an absolute joke. She was just an adequate painter. The other two were much better.
You can't bring Rembrandt or DaVinci into this but nice try. They are pretty biased, sure, narrow-minded, sure, but they're not completely wrong for wanting difference. The problem is that they only want difference and it's unfair to the artists with the classical art style. We are far more derivative though.
@@LuckerStomp , of course I can bring up Rembrandt or DaVinci. It's my comment. I can say anything I want. One of the judges came right out and said a painting wasn't "contemporary enough".
Tai is the most problematic as a judge. No artist of any integrity would take a job episode after episode, year after year, trashing other artists' work.
A portrait will always look and feel cold when you copy from a photograph. I never understood the new artists these days. Real skill comes from the eye, not being aided with or copied from an iPad. I don’t understand why this is used when the sitter is just right in front of you.
wow, all wonderful pieces today ... and yay, the judges picked the best one
Thank you for the first episode of a (new to me) series. I look forward to seeing some more.
For once I agree with the final pick 🙌
Oh my gosh the pieces were so so good this round!!! Well done
Hi, thanks for this. Will we see the rest of series 7 at some stage? thanks.
Excellent. Love it.
Good choice, awesome artist 🎨

I love this show. Thank you for sharing.
I can’t wait to see Fred!
Awesome!
Well done
Saw Lady Glenconner on The Graham Norton Show. She is brilliant - go to the library and borrow her books.

Excellent show!!!! What happened to the other season 7 episodes 2 - 9? You jumped to episodes 10 and 11 without posting the rest.... I am confused.
Yes, I’m asking the same question. Please post episodes 2-9. We wait for them every week😊😊
Brilliant
❤

Portrait Artist of the Decade where Dame Judi is the sitter
I agree with the judges. At last
„not contemporary enough“ - there‘s your verdict
Someone is wearing her social distancing tent in this episode during Covid 😂😂😂
Linotype , sewing machines, cut and paste. Shall we aid Ai apps.

Dr Nothanx
Any money that you don't have to paid IRS will tax as a game money
Where is the lady?
Also no crowds of onlookers. This was probably because of Covid and social distancing if this was done in 2020-2021
I love this show so much, but isn’t it time for new judges?!? It’s become a tyranny … as if these 3 know all and everything!
they r the producer
I think they’re fine, I can imagine their role in the show might prove to be quite humbling, overcoming any pride or avoiding tyranny would be their personal lives challenge…and stepping back isn’t easy for some.
Tyranny? Lol

I agree!
I too was hoping not to see the same 3 self important clowns again!

I get so tired of hearing “it’s not contemporary enough “ 😏
