I love this series. For me, being give the opportunity to watch a person practice a craft that they are an expert in is a tremendous privilege. In the same way that a great piece of live music can make a person emotional, watching an artist create their art is an emotional experience for me. The paintings are all so unique and beautiful; I wish nothing but success for all the artists that are highlighted here.
Yes! I hate competition too!!! It's why I love Art (one of the reasons). But this is brilliantly, beautifully, sensitively done and I get lost in it too. What a gift in these stressful times.
A pandemic activity with my mom has been syncing up what episodes of Portrait Artist of the Year Episodes that we can find on UA-cam and watching while on the phone together in different states. A very excited email was just sent and plans have been made. Thank you!
I came to this episode after about a dozen others from a mix of seasons and I have to say congratulations to the writers for so quickly finding the right combination of format and subject choice after this episode. Excellent series.
Just discovered this show. Wonderful! The Great British Bakeoff (Baking Show, here across the pond) got me baking. Perhaps I will start painting . . . more.
I knew the guy’s gonna win just by looking at his process, and I can’t even draw a circle but I’m a writer who has a similar process when it comes to building a story and it’s great to look at a familiar approach in a different discipline. Thanks for this show. Much ❤️
Watched a few episodes of this awhile ago that someone else put up. Really enjoyed them but they got taken down. So happy I can see other episodes. THANK YOU!
After watching 2020 PAotY I can clearly see how much this show have evolved through the years! It began as a concept and ended up as an elegant work of art. It is trully magnificent.
i love this series ! i just discovered it and can't get enough of it---- so many wonderful artists ! 💜💥🎇 Louie the artist who won kept reminding of actor Julian Sands.
34:55 Wonderful work. The silhouette cutter is impressive. I got tears when the celeb said she wanted to look 35. I'm 35 with an unclear future. :/ Thank you. (Edit) Alison Steadman
how disrespectful to have 21 amazing artists paint and not even acknowledge them with some screentime, skipped through all the judge interviews anyway, wish it was the paintings that were shown.
I just find this and I am loving it!!! So much amazing artist and backgrounds, I couldn't reach that stage to make something like that, life 😨😨😨 it would be amazing that they make a live on UA-cam of the models to try this at home along with the artist 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Totally agree! The editing & camera work really short changes the artist. Really needs to show all the final paintings fully before they’re narrowed down. After all each artist worked so hard!
The fact that Rosalie Watkins did not win is just…. Sometimes I hate others opinions 😂. She had the best painting, best likeness, best composition, most refined, most delicate, most elegant and most well-crafted artwork of the day by FAR.
I don’t know why they even bother with the sets as nobody hardly paints them,The judges pick some of the weirdest ones,They don’t show all the artists work who are in the show ,I would like to see them all .
This first episode of the series is very different from the other seasons I've watched. The others have only 9 artists - 3 per celebrity portrait -and show the work in process. Much better. Obviously the series has evolved. I still don't agree with many of their decisions!
I don't like how they filmed this at all this time. We are here for the art and the Artists and to not see all of the work is a big disappointment to me.
I ALSO deeply love this series. but when in the opening segment in the eye of the beholder opinions (and remember all the judges also use toilet paper) opinions range from "mug shot", and this from a supposed FINE ART DIRECTOR i can see her purchasing toilet paper at her market: all these are just just opinions from imperfect humans. Whether you win or not means nothing in the scheme of GIFTINGS and ETERNITY.
The problem with this art competition is there is only one painter and the rest are either NOT painters or they are art gallery owners. A REAL art competition is evaluated by artists ONLY. Second, it was predictable the judges showed deference for a male winner. The galleries and museums are FULL of male artists. THe judges do very little to change or at least show some consideration to the gender landscape; It was also would have been MORE legitimate if they had at least 2 runners up. I will say it was surprising to see that many women accepted i to the competition to begin with.
That silhouette guy is awesome
That paper cutting shadow portrait artist is amazing. He is a savant. I would like to see an entire show just on that man.
Not gonna lie...i will love to see him playing as the Doctor, he has charm.
The winner; wonderfully modest and appreciative! Really deserving.
That silhouette paper artist is for me the artist of the year!
I'm glad they went from 21 artists to 9 in later episodes. This is a very inspiring show!

I love your comment. I feel the same way!
I hate competition shows, but this is a lovely examination of varying artistic processes. I really enjoyed this format and could get lost in it...

Her expressions at 41:40...its like they won 😀..so lovely that they made such a connection with the painter

...great idea!
That's my favorite activity with my aunt, great way to connect with our loved ones
Wonderful!!!
I was so happy to find you again. I have loved your artists - every year and every one of them!
This show inspires me and amazes me at all the different styles of painting. Thank you for posting.
18:05 luv that, accurate and creative!
I love how she cupped his head and gave him a truly appreciative kiss. ❤
One of my favorite shows! Thank you for posting!
I am thrilled with the talent of the artists this year. All are amazing in their own right!!!!
41:04 shoutout to that girl in the crowd with the gorgeous flower makeup. love her
Amazing!
Right!
I came to this episode after about a dozen others from a mix of seasons and I have to say congratulations to the writers for so quickly finding the right combination of format and subject choice after this episode. Excellent series.
Thank you! I love this show but can’t see it any other way from the US ❤️
I really, REALLY love this show! So inspiring!!!
Thankyou for taking me on this WONDERFUL JOURNEY!
A great discovery that drew my emotions to the surface!
Just discovered this show. Wonderful! The Great British Bakeoff (Baking Show, here across the pond) got me baking. Perhaps I will start painting . . . more.
I’m sorry I didn’t know about this show. It’s terrific. I hope it keeps going.
Was looking for the first season. Thank you!

This, to me is Genius. I am utterly in awe of them all.
Finally season 1!!! 🥲❤️ Thank you!!
Love this show and have been searching for a way of watching early episodes, thanks for this. Hope to see much more
Well chosen te winner. I love it, It looks that they really were in a garden in a sunny day.
Wonderful artwork by ALL the artists. Really enjoyed it. Thank you
Love this show! Thanks for uploading

Thanks for posting this!!! We can't get it in America!!!
We only get this on UA-cam here in Canad😊🍁
Wow! The judges actually picked the best one.
i love this series ! i just discovered it and can't get enough of it---- so many wonderful artists ! 💜💥🎇
Louie the artist who won kept reminding of actor Julian Sands.
I love how at 28:57 he Lowkey advise and coach's a lil bit.. wish I could be there...
I agree. Silhouettes can be very interesting.
16:17 I really love art like that
I love everything about this show.
Love this show!!!
The youngest artist should have been in the final for sure. She is so talented
34:55 Wonderful work. The silhouette cutter is impressive. I got tears when the celeb said she wanted to look 35. I'm 35 with an unclear future. :/ Thank you. (Edit) Alison Steadman

Love this show! Thanks for posting it. Is there more to come in this season?
30:33
(gasp! ... it's Mr Three-Steaks-Pam!!)
IT TOOK ME FOREVER TO FIGURE OUT WHERE I KNEW JULIETE STEVENSON FROM, IT ALMOST DROVE ME MAD AND THEN I REMEMBERED IT! MONA LISA SMILES!
She's done several fine films. One that won acclaim was written specifically for her: Truly, Madly, Deeply.
thank you
I wish we would have gotten to see every artist’s finished piece. I don’t think we did.
Yes!
Roseline work is beautiful
Julia Stevenson is a great model! I would have captured her fresh beauty and pleasant expression. Most her artists didnt do her justice
Love the show but was surprised about the bad judging this time. I also want to know why other contenders never get shown.
I just find this and I am loving it!!! So much amazing artist and backgrounds, I couldn't reach that stage to make something like that, life 😨😨😨 it would be amazing that they make a live on UA-cam of the models to try this at home along with the artist 😍😍😍😍😍😍
I really liked the comic book guy
Why there's no subtitles/closed caption?? Is hard to watch it when we're in train
I love this series...but these are to judge heavy. Show me the artists!
Totally agree! The editing & camera work really short changes the artist. Really needs to show all the final paintings fully before they’re narrowed down. After all each artist worked so hard!
😭 please enable closed captioning for hard of hearing viewers……. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!
Ty😊
I love to look at those series , I cant see the landscape serie in Belgium…..can you please help me. Tx
A sitter should know to keep still- disrespectful to move around
All artist did wonderful work must be hard to judge.
Great!!
I have been coming almost daily to see if the semi-finals and finals for Portrait Artist Season 1 have been posted. Are you planning on posting them?
Please
The things these British get up to! They’re a consciousness- raising country- at least from the standpoint of ideas like this.
Minuto 17:00 el verdadero "viernes de siluetas"
Gallagher's pretty convinced of his pop art rendition lol
Love the show but would not have chosen any of the winners. Thought some of the others were worlds better.
Thanks
I like Rosalie’s best out of the 3.
I can’t believe anyone would think bull fighting is ok
what is the year of this season? 2021?
what year is this i wonder
Why did you put so many ads?
The fact that Rosalie Watkins did not win is just…. Sometimes I hate others opinions 😂. She had the best painting, best likeness, best composition, most refined, most delicate, most elegant and most well-crafted artwork of the day by FAR.
41:05 beautiful face 🎨
I'd never make it as a judge...I like realism too much. Some of those artists met my standard...!
What year was this?
Cómo se llaman los jueces de este programa?
what year was this filmed?
I think it was 2012-2013ish. Quite a while ago.
WELL.! I Say Old Boy, Chaps, & Chapettes . . .
"MiGHTY GOUD SHOW".!
No Closed Captioned. THUMB DOWN!
I don’t know why they even bother with the sets as nobody hardly paints them,The judges pick some of the weirdest ones,They don’t show all the artists work who are in the show ,I would like to see them all .
In the newest seasons there are less competitors per round, and they show more about them.
Its unfair that some have to paint 2 people in the same time period
This first episode of the series is very different from the other seasons I've watched. The others have only 9 artists - 3 per celebrity portrait -and show the work in process. Much better. Obviously the series has evolved. I still don't agree with many of their decisions!
Kathleen is such an art snob.
Algo que sucede
I don't think that Gabriel agrees with Juliet's decision
I don't like how they filmed this at all this time. We are here for the art and the Artists and to not see all of the work is a big disappointment to me.
I wonder how the artist can concentrate with so much interruptions ..too much talking. Please, let them paint !
3:04...looks like she's wearing a necklace of coronaviruses..!
Wth 😂😂😂
I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT!!!!
NOT EVEN A PORTRAIT!!!
Way too many details feom the start
They talked like developing a style is a bad thing.
What is This?!?! 😂
