I bought the inspired by after playing both in store. Couldn't tell the difference re fit feel and playability. I had a set of seth lover pickups at home that are now in the Epi. Couldn't be happier and loads of cash in the bank ☺️
Sounds like a good choice😊
Both sound really great.
Yes they do🙂
Got the Epiphone ES 335. Went to the store, played it for a bit…just had to have it. Loved it. Great sustain, playability and overall sound…Very happy! Plus I will use it more without being that scared of something might happen… Great video, man!!
Thanks man🙂 That’s great!
Great comparison, and great playing! I bought a used 2010 Epiphone Dot for $300, and it’s still my go-to guitar I only do studio work, and it sits well in any mix. The only thing I replaced was the nut (with a Graph Tech Tusq). Everything else is stock.
Thanks🙂
To me, the gibson sounded brighter and a bit more broader in tonal range (probably due to the pickups). It would be a great video to hear the two guitars with the same pickups on each to see if an upgrade would bring the tone closer together. In other words, would a pickup swap bring the Epi sound equal to the Gibson?
Both sound good and look good. Listening from an iPad
I have the Epi 339 -the ‘little cousin’ of the Epi 339.. its lighter and projects a really sweet tone very close to the Gibson 335, with a neck and fretboard that is pure delight to play on!
I haven’t tried to 339. But I sure have to do so soon.
The Gibson sounds a tad bit brighter and louder, a drop more alive, if that makes sense. However, not something that would make me pay 5x the price of the Epiphone. I’d perhaps be willing to pay $200 more, which suggests the difference is nominal.
That makes sense to me👍 Have to say the new inspired by Gibson series is great. And with the new look it feels pretty close to the Gibson.
At the first swap over, I thought the Gibson sounded a bit deeper, but after that, little/no difference.
It's not just about the sound but the way it feels and looks in your hands. This includes the nitrocellulose vs poly.
The Gibson is clearly better, but the question is, does the price justify the difference? My opinion the answer is no. However, if you can afford it and you want that 25 percent better guitar, then get the Gibson. That is what I did.
The other option is to buy the Ephiphone and put Seth Lovers pickups in which will sound as good as the best Gibson 335. The nitro and different wood still makes a small difference but now the reason to get the Gibson is diminished.
Recently snagged an Epiphone ES335 Pro and it's fantastic! Such a great value! Both sounded so good here.
Thanks. True, great value!
thé gibson sound better to my ears…..if you ain’t got the cash go for a epi
Gibson sounds a bit sweeter but definitely not 6x as good. If they feel similar then you are paying an awful lot just to have the Gibson feelgood factor. I have A/B'd an Epiphone Inspired By Gibson ES-335 against the Gibson equivalent in a shop and reached the conclusion that, whilst the Gibson was a slightly nicer guitar overall, it simply doesn't justify the cost difference.
I agree. But offcouse if you collecte guitars the Gibson will probably be a better choice.
I've got to be honest , to my ears the the Gibson sound quite muted compared to brightness of the epi.
I really like the sound of the Epi too🙂
Right. Both sounded good, but low mid was different and gibson sounded hotter and fatter and epi sounded brighter.
The inspired by is the old Dot that they stopped making in 2019
Not really. Alnico classic pros for a start
I went to a guitar store a few days ago to buy another 335 (I got a Scheter Corsair which is amazing but wanted a more ES-335 traditional tone). O fcourse I went directly to the Gibson part and tried a few, some of them really far from my budget but anyways wanted to try. I never liked the Ephiphones as a I played an SG a few years ago from a friend and wasn't comfortable to play and the sound was like a very entry level guitar but I give it a try to the Ephiphone 335 Inspired By Gibson series and now I have it in my home. It sound pretty close to the Gibson and at least in my hands it feels a lot better. Not to mention the price was 4 times cheaper so if I want to change something I got the money to customize it to my like (but probably I won't because it really sound very great). Listen with yout ears, not with your eyes. I think Ephiphone did an amazing job with this series, changed completly my mind about their guitars.
That’s the thing..listen with your ears👍 If it feels good and it sounds good..then it’s all good. Great job by Epiphone on these guitars!
There's an airy quality to the Gibson I don't know if that's the best word for it, I think the pickups are probably hotter. It sounds sweeter. I know you have more videos coming up, would be curious to hear your thoughts between the Les Paul and the 335, I've heard rumors that a few of them back in the day were burst killers
Yes you’re right. Pickup has alot todo with the sound. The Epiphone feels just as good too play as the Gibson too me. And pickups can easly be changed. But there is also the feeling when you look down on the headstock and it is a Gibson. But if it is worth the money.. well that is up to each and every one to deside for them self😊 Good idea with the 335 vs les paul. And yes I have some pretty amazing guitars coming for review soon. Stay tuned😃
@@tomrogerthu stay tuned unless you have a Gibson ;) 😂 tuning issues aside they sound magnificent.
True😆
Its funny how gibson could put the same pickups in the epiphone and make it sound 90% like the $3000 plus more guitar but don’t lol
That’s the point
it’s funny how you only look at pickups, how about the sound, the feel, the built quality? believe me à épi neck bends just looking at it, gibson neck is hard like rock and stay tuned …..if you don’t have the money I understand…..
@@sega62s bad pickups = bad guitar no matter how good it is built.
@@sega62s lol be real. Gibsons are notorious for not staying in tune and their necks are always breaking. qc is also crap. no way are they worth their asking price in 2023. With epiphone i can live with all those faults cause of the price.
@@richurro20 well, if you can’t buy good gear, it’s your choice, i prefer good quality, and what you say is so wrong, but hey…..it’s ok….go for epi
Gibson but I have the Dot and great value. I also have the Gibson LP and SG and far better but worth the money? Depends, for me yes but not all
If money is no object, the Gibson would be any players choice - it’s the benchmark after all. The Epiphone is for those on a budget, or those who dare not take an expensive guitar to a gig. The Epiphone is a cheaper alternative to the “real deal”, but is in no way a lesser quality instrument or in any way inferior. If the Gibson was one and a half times or twice the price of the Epiphone the decision would be a no brainer.
Im in the Gibson camp on this one. It does sound better, but thats not the only factor. The neck carve, the feel of Nitro, the fretwork being pleckd, the tuners.... the list goes on. Yes they are "close in sound" but the interaction between guitar and player is intangible. I have never been emotionally attached to an Epiphone but I have a few Gibsons that I would be buried with. Also, we all know those Gibsons increase in value and you wont loose money on the purchase if you hold onto it. Its a higher cost of entry, but i would take the Gibson every day of the week.... twice on Sunday
Good points here that I agree with👍
Very true! Mostly a matter of taste and looks.
Gibson sounded brighter and wider tone range.
Get Epiphone and swap the pickups to burstbuckers!
That epiphone w montys pafs and 50’s wiring would be a problem for guitar snobs. That being said i think it rly captures the vibe and essence of the gibson and like 90% of the tone but the gib is hotter and has more bite which i think is pups and electronics. What the ep cant do is the same materials and hand crafted artisanship for the price.
True! But for most people I think 90% is more than good enought. But offcourse if you want the collectors value the Gibson is the way to go.
@@tomrogerthu absolutely… i think if price is removed from consideration then you buy the gibson for recording and keeping at home. Id hate to ruin such a beautiful thing on the road. The epi is smthg i could upgrade for recording, and tour with. I can happily destroy it and not feel bad bc its just a well made mass produced product. But it will never be a point of pride like the gibbo
Gibson is maybe brighter, but not much of a difference
Who doesn’t love a little “snowballed” lol 🤟🏻
That’s right!😎
Great review. Going to get the Epiphone.
Thanks man. There is a link in the info section. If you buy it through there it helps me🙂
The only difference between this is price as are both Gibson's as Epiphone is a branch of Gibson one your over paying more for due to labor costs , I would like to se a comparison between the ES335 I built and a Gibson .
Well i would compare em if i could😊
@@tomrogerthu It would be interesting to compare a homemade Guitar Vs a Major brand name . If you were into building your own guitar you could watch my videos on how I built mine I detail what electronics and hardware I used during the whole process and you would have a Guitar like mine to compare plus you could live stream the whole process of your build and I am sure a lot of people would watch .
Hi!! Nice video comparing both guitars!! I recently bought the same Epiphone es 335 IG model in cherry, and have the same opinion like yours ... very good guitar after some set up. Did you set up the pickups height on yours? How is the pickups height for both positions? Do you mind tell me ? Thanks in advance!!! Paulo from Brazil !! Obrigado!!!!
Thanks man! The setup where great right out off the box. Haven’t adjusted anything.
Gibson! La Epiphone è scarica a confronto con un buon upgrade se ne può parlare... Complimenti per il tuo playning Saluti
Thanks mate.
The Gibson sounded more clean and articulate, but the Epi was not very far behind. The Epi sounds good in its own right. It might even be preferable in some situations.
Thanks for the comparison. But why no clean tones? Hard to tell the difference with the distortion.
Well, I don’t play that much very clean. But I’ll make sure to do so next time🙂
Sweet. Front row seat first comment. Looking forward to this one
Nice😁
Im in this predicament right now, and i would love to know which did you choose to keep?
Well..first I choose the Epiphone. Because It was a safer guitar live. It kept tuning better and so on. But then I sold that aswell. It didn’t get the playtime many of my other guitars got. I will say both are great guitars. The Epiphone is brilliant and plays like a dream. The Gibson..well it is a Gibson. It looks cooler and more premium. Sounds a bit more premium to some..
Hello! what is the color of the epiphone called? Thank you! Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina
Vintage sunburst.
Gibson's less muddier than the Eppie ES-335, and is clearer, and has more colorful sparkling harmonics jumping out each cord and note. However, the Epiphone Sheraton Pro II is a whole nother story. It gives the Gibson a run for it's money in terms of both tone and playability, not to mention build quality and aesthetics.
Gibson was miles hotter
Gibson does sound way nicer
Gibson! 100%....
Gibson much thicker, warmer and fatter sounding.
Depends on the setting.
Dot , all the way
