HI. Thank you for the simulation. I love your channel. I was there in 1993. 10th Mountain Division. A couple things I would like to point out. First, the buildings were not that tall and very few had roofs. The enemy has an advantage of being able to see you at a further distance. Second, the amount of Somalis. There were thousands. From all directions. There were also many tires set on fire throughout the area. Blocking views from above. Thank you so much for all your work.
I missed being there by a day. Not on the ground, was part of aircrew doing aerial observation. Rotated back after a few weeks, and spent our time looking for Mike Durant. Was there, probably standing right next to you, when Mike Durant was returned and put on that C-141.
As you probably already know, CAS for this operation was done by AH-6 Little Birds equipped with miniguns and MH-60s with their minigun door gunners as well as airborne snipers providing overwatch and Intel. Would make sense the Huey would have done well. Would be cool to see regular H-60s with minigun door gunners.

Right when I found out about Blackhawk Down from the original newspaper articles... Someone I worked with pointed out to me, 'Yes, that's HIS SISTER', and I realized I was working with Linda Shughart.

Black hawk down was an incredible movie. I know quite a few guys who were there irl as well. Rangers lead the way! 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 RIP to all our brothers who didn’t make it back home. 🙏🏼
Black Hawk Down is a terrible, war crime-apologetic film. Here is how the Battle of Mogadishu has been described by journalists who were actually there. An excerpt from Richard Dowden's "Africa" (2008): "More than 1000 Somalis were killed that night, most of them women and children hit by bullets and rockets from helicopter gunships which circled the trapped men, spraying the flimsy Somali houses with guns that fired thousands of rounds a minute. [...] We found a woman and her children who had been taken hostage by the trapped Americans. In the film of the incident, Black Hawk Down, the Rangers are shown protecting the woman. She told a different story. The soldiers had seized her and her children and held them in front of them with guns to their heads as human shields to try to escape."
@@cassius_eu5970 have you ever been to war? Surrounded by a whole city that wanted to hang your mangled, tortured and burned body from a bridge?? Parade your lifeless, desecrated body through the streets while people literally try to tear if your limbs or any part of you they could? Sadly war is hell. It’s ugly. Many people die who have nothing to do with it. It’s sad truly sad civilian casualties happen but we learn from our mistakes and civilian casualties happen a lot less frequently. Personally I do not rely on the news because their portrayals rarely line up with actual events. Media outlets are almost always biased and portray only what THEY want or spin stories to fit THEIR agenda. Not saying that what you said didn’t happen. It very well may have. But until you yourself are in that situation kinda hard to judge the actions of others.
@@jbpitbbqgaming2170 War is absolutely one of the most terrible things on this planet. This is why if you don't want to go to war and you live in the US, you don't sign up to the military. The US doesn't have a draft, and anyone who signs up voluntarily should be aware of the fact that whatever war they get sent to die in isn't going to be a war defending the US; it's 99 % going to be a war invading another country. If someone voluntarily signs up to die fighting wars of aggression, I don't see why anyone must feel sorry for them, and they shouldn't be surprised that the cities they fight in will want them dead. I feel sorry for people who get drafted and civilians who die in a war. But if someone VOLUNTARILY signs up to fight a war of aggression and then on top of it murders civilians or uses them as human shields, then I have no pity for them. To me it's no different than someone who CHOOSES to become a murderer and then complains that life in prison isn't very nice. It's their own actions that led them there. And yes, it's also terrible that much of the news media is so blatantly pro-war. I remember how during the invasion of Iraq for example, they frequently brought on military personnel or employees from military corporations to explain how "awesome" all the new bombs and missiles are (that they would use against Iraqi men, women, and children); of course nobody wanted to talk about that they would be used against humans, so they typically left it at the specs and capabilities of these weapons rather than the humans at the receiving end of them. It is a shame how much of the public gets bombarded with pro-war or "war is awesome" messages in the news all the time. But in the end, the US is a country with free access to the Internet, and it is very easy to find academic accounts of how war actually is. The type of quote I cited above is something you're unlikely to ever hear in mainstream media, but it is very easy to read up on instances like these in academic publications that anyone has access to in a library or freely over the Internet, and it is the duty of everyone who even thinks about joining the military and to potentially have the lives of other human beings in your hand to properly inform themselves.
That's a good point, the Blackhawks that got shot down in the actual mission were hit by RPGs. Are there RPG gunners in DCS? You know it might be really cool to see this mission done with humans playing baddies with RPGs trying to shoot down the choppers. Might make the mission a lot more intense/fun for the guys flying too.
@@christophero55 I think that the problem has been that the AI won't fire RPGs at aircraft. Human controlled RPG gunners might help with that (and would be fun to watch).
The problem is that the gun is designed to spray shells over a wide area. It's not precise enough to avoid friendly fire. All of it's other weapons are rockets and missiles (with even greater AOE).
Not a comment on Tom Hardy as an actor, but his part in the Spitfire is what makes the film Dunkirk -I’ll happily watch an edited version of Dunkirk with just the spitfire scenes even though they don’t turn or pull as hard as CGI planes so the dogfights look less flashy or complex, there’s a solidness and a realness to scenes filmed with real planes - but he did well playing the kray twins in Legend. The multitude horde of Somalis. And if they WERE there, would they be considered combatants?
Is this mission available to download anywhere?
Gotta get in there with the AH-64 Apache!
_"..GET SOME, you knobhead!.."_
I knew this was gonna be good when I heard that.🤟🤟🤣😂😹
The question for me, is the Blackhawk this good in real life? If it is we really did miss a trick here in the UK.
Not really. It's just a medium utility helo being used as a gunship, tbh it's not much different than some Mi8 variants. It's done well in service in the US, but primarily because we have fantastic pilots and crews.
@@92HazelMocha Perhaps........
@@clangerbasher I've seen an Ah6 do a backflip right after putting every one of his Hydra's through a single window, I'd say they're pretty good lol
@@92HazelMocha If the UK goes for Blackhawk to replace Puma it would be handy if it was a very good weapons platform too. The UK lacks firepower in the field across the board.
Why the dislike for Eric Bana?
There were no "goodies" on October 3rd...
That's awesome 😎I caught the helicopter bug
Yay for the 60!!!
Where's the Sammies with their RPGs? Thats how you got crashed birds to start with.
At 14:31 , I'm seeing a bus with 3 passengers (not 10 as advertised) and a driver. How is that worth 10 points?
Now run this in the Hinds. Also, use a door gunner.
Or Hips.
Watch out for enemy trees....very ENTertaining
Yes...yes they can, just ask for specs in about 15 yrs.
Sounds like Cap needs to try some Grape Nuts (sugarless cereal).
I wonder if the Somalia Armed Forces had Hinds and Ka-50s would it change anything?
Would have changed litteraly everything. It was supposed to be a quick bag and go mission agaisnt an unsuspecting, barely equipped and small force from a local milita. If they'd had an actual military with attack helicopters the entire operation probably wouldn't have even happened.
Don’t get me wrong… loved the vid … but where were the RPGs
What about Cobras next?
Hey Rim Grippers. I loved this one, great fun.
Just wondering if you've tried any Free For All fights? I guess you'd need 10 plus, arranged in a circle, central, gentleman's merge, then let hell loose! I haven't found anything like this, while not particularly scientific in any way it might be fun. Maybe one for a drunk Saturday evening?
Check the grim reapers 2 channel, we often do thunderdome where it's reds Vs blues, not a free for all but pretty damn close to it!
Damn man, MURDERhawks! That's a lot of firepower. Great visibility. The level of control looked miles above the other choppers in the game. Super cool.
Tom Hardy lol. I kinda have a crush on him too ;)
Cap, have you tried the "Hatchet H-60"-mod for arma 3?
Not yet.
All u need to get people uot situation is a md 500 little bird fast and really manuvable al low altitude
You guys should put the Apache through this test
