You should try to use all the potential energy of the stick by making it stop standing vertically when your wrist is dropped down. After that, close the fingers and pull up the wrist. But It's very important you follow the speed and movement of the stick while pulling it back up.
easily the best tutorial for this technique i've seen so far. love it!
this is the best detailed explanation I have seen yet. Most guys just want to show off how fast they are an do not teach it as you do.
Awesome video! Really great explanation and show of it, I really appreciate the time you take to make it very clear and understandable!
Hey Jay! This is a great supplement to Gordy Knudtson's video, THANKS! :)
thank you! i've finally understood the concept of this technique
Very nice and thorough demonstration, thanks!
Stellar tutelage!
Bobby Caldwell from Captain beyond had the sickest rolls ,..way ahead of his time
Is this the same as Gordy Knudtson's open close technique, it looks similar, except you don't lift your hand up above the level of the forearm?
Great lesson
Very very nice. Thank you so much.
What Vic Firth Drumsticks are you using
There's a common denominator with these push/pull tutorials that are on UA-cam.
So they always play on a practice pad to show the technique, and it works pretty good. But when they switch to use the technique on a snare drum, it looks more like a one hand roll.
Can anyone send me a s video as to where they breakdown the technique on a straight snare?
We all know the bounce back on a practice pad is stronger than that of snare skin.
Now I need to practice this method...
Great demo but I still have trouble with the actual constant controlled letting
Great video, but JojoMayer is the Master
I would tend to agree! It's funny how different players find this thing in different ways. Jojo puts his thumb more on top of the stick. Thanks for watching.
That's not push pull in the left hand, that's drop and catch. Not the same thing.
And George L. Stone called it tap/rebound, it's all the same concept... I wouldn't get too wrapped up in terminology, my friend. There's no published drum bible that labels this technique. Call it what you will.
That stick is almost as tall as you are!
sounds like a sloppy blast beat
lol... I like that!
