Termidor. It has worked every time for me. Plus there's about 5 or 6 different blends and ways to apply Termidor, depending on the situation. I'm eastern shore of Maryland and owned my own Pest Control company for 20years. You are on point in every topic, in every video. Nice work!

Somebody give this dude a gold star....Just because you dont think it works doesnt mean you should be brain washing folks to go the other way. Theres many ways to skin the cat. Lol it's funny how folks smash other processes to increase "their" way of doing stuff. Seen the same stuff in the HVAC world. You can do a chemical treatment around the perimeter (depending on the foundation), then install the stations to "monitor" future activity. Thats how you utilize the bait stations. Only a fool would install bait stations with active termites on the property.

If you call an exterminator to an active termite infestation and they install monitoring stations, my friend you have called the wrong company. These are monitoring systems, not for use with active termite infestations in the home.
Thank you for saying this. My heart is just so devasted over a swarp that happened yesterday. House is 14 yrs old and pest control came today saying they need 2700.00 to bait the termites! I asked him WHY several times. Why bait to see if they are there...HELLO THEY ARE LOOKING AT YOU. I'm so frustrated.
Dan Miles, you assume these people haven’t done their research. I’ve researched baiting termites since it was introduced. Sentricon is the same active ingredient as off brand lowes bait stations. Sentricon sales team members have told me themselves that if I have termidor or Taurus as an option, I should use that and NOT sentricon or baiting. I would assume you don’t like what I say here because it hits close to home. Either you bought a bait station system and had it installed or you are an installer and just hate hard facts. When baiting was first introduced in Virginia, it was standard practice to use cardboard or cellulose material in a station with no active ingredients until termites were found. I know that some companies have moved from that practice but I know of others who have not. The problem is not if the pesticide works it’s about what the termites find FIRST. Well they now have a system with sentricon and it has a bait station that you can put above ground, you put it right in the middle of a mud tube or right where active termites are going, it's like a paste with the active ingredient in it that kills the termite colony. We do both liquid and bait at the company that I work at, Bait stations and liquid treatments, bait stations are only good for subterranean termites though, drywood termites we have to use a similar product to termidor SC, Boracare or Taurus sc. I had a liquid treatment done at my house, and I still had termites after the liquid treatment was done two years later, I helped the guy do it so I know it was done properly but it did not eliminate all termites. I installed bait stations about a year ago, I haven't had a problem since, not saying they're not there but I inspect my home on a regular basis. I think bait stations are great, so are liquid treatments, it just needs to be based on what the home needs. If there are no active termites in the home, bait stations are going to be the way to go.
I hired my pest control company to help with termite issue. I have active termite in my back of the house and they installed the bait stations. Shouldn't they be using the liquid stuff around the house especially the back of the house? I'm scared to have my house eaten up in front of me. I have the termites that come up from under the ground. Lucky me.
We have a home built on a slab and have the Hardi board fiber cement siding. Sir, you just saved us $300! We've suspected this bait-station stuff was a gimmick, and now I feel better about our decision to cancel our Termite Warranty. I will tell you we live in Charlotte, NC (farther south of you), but we also have our home treated inside & out and no one has found termites (yet). Thank you so much.
Great info. I use bait stations and have successfully baited/treated termites with them. Granted I would never expect this to be my sole preventative measure for termites. I would spray but these termites are just in the field (1.25acre land) so I catch them before they get too close.
Just discovered a small swarm in our basement, I believe small red winged termite. Probably was dormant for years, purchase the home 6 years ago and was not noticed during home inspection. Now we are faced with damaged floor joists and a small swarm of termites. Oh boy! Thanks for your info, appreciate it.
Bait stations do work. Monitoring stations is what he's talking about. With a monitoring station wood is placed in the station, checked quarterly and if termites are discovered the customer gets a termidor liquid treatment. However most of the larger companies have gone away from that. Now the the termite poison is placed in the bait station from day one and starts working the moment you put it in the ground. Bait is the best way to kill the queen. Liquid can dissipate with rain plus it only goes down maybe 3 feet. Queens can be 6 feet deep so when she is fed with the poisonous bait she dies and the colony dies. It's bait contains an IGR insect growth regulator which once invested it prevents the termite from molting and if they can't molt they die. Bait uses they foraging habits against them. I work for one of the larger companies and if a customer has termites we immediately do a liquid treat where they were found and then install the bait stations to continue to kill any ore colonies in the are that can't be seen. So they work if used the right way.
Ano Ali if I were you I would use Taurus, its generic Fipronil but works just as well from what I see. I do not trust pyrethroids for termite treatments.
If termites already inside my home and in the walls how applying termidor arround foundation will kill them ? Do termites cross over those trench and go outside and come in? It may prvent termites from getting into our home but termites already inside may continue to live and destroy home.
Eastern subterranean termites don’t live in the house they live in the ground. If you place a pesticide barrier between the ground and the food they will die
I have recently found some subtereans in a garage wall I must treat. My garage is attached to the house which sits on a wood subfloor. Any ideas on a good way to treat a subfloor and cement block foundation with a 2 1/2 ft crawl space?

Exit holes from drywall running up stud in 1 room.) We were told not to worry since subterranean. After your video, we are now really concerned combo will be effective. Other than exit holes in room, can't see what type of damage behind drywall.
I was making a new house and a friend of mine noticed a long piece of mud trail on one of the window, and he told me I had termites. I asked him how he knew, and said termites can't stand light and they travel thru small mud tunnels. By the next day I went to Lowes and bought some termite stake bait stations, the ones you need to bury and only the top is exposed. I left them for about a month and a half and most of them start hitting or they had a little plastic on top that as soon as the termites start eating it raises up, letting you know yo have termites. I called for an estimate from an exterminator but was too expensive. He quoted me 8 hundred something and then every visit about 120. Luckily he knew my dad from a previous job they worked together and he let me know exactly what I had to do. He told me to dig a small trench all the way around the house, buy some termidor you can buy online or maybe at your hardware store. For every 5 gallons of water you add couple of onces and mix well, and do this all the way around the house. Next put dirt back in the trench and respray with a pressure sprayer. I took out old termite stakes and buried new ones, and guess what, no more termites. I've been respraying with a pressure sprayer just for shits and jiggles. I always wondered how I got so many termites in the first place, so I talked to another exterminator, and he suggested that the top soil that was put before the house was even built was infested with termites, I added the top soil to make the house much higher in case of a flood or bad hurricane. Not attracted to light? The formosan termites in my part of the country sure are. When they swarm everyone turns their porch and inside lights off, they are extremely attracted to light!
@@Jenn_80 Yes the winged reproductive termites are extremely attracted to light. Apparently these are the only ones that come put and you can see. The other types of termites stay hidden.
Yes I have ants year round and now I have termites! Winded termites are coming inside the home from cracks behind my furnace that I cannot reach. I tried to seal up the space behind my furnace with foam insulation but they are still getting through the cracks! I have a slab house. So no wood underneath my house. No basement. Maybe they are getting in through the attic? Or I have so many cracks and it's a thin and cheaply built small house so it wouldn't be hard to get in. I don't know if I should schedule a visit from Orkin? They are so expensive. And they will want to do it many times and charge me over and over for it. Even if I got borax, I don't know where I would put it? Around my furnace but idk where they are coming into the house from? Also, I read if you just pour the powder down, it won't stop an infestation.

I found termites in our flower bed six months ago, got the bait stations then, no termites in the bait stations at quarterly monitoring, but some in the flower bed six months later, and alleged mud tubes getting into the house. In the process of scheduling a re-treatment with Termidor. I hope it works.
My neighbor installed bait stations on our property line, the thing is the stations are closer to my foundation than his. Only 5-6 feet from my foundation and around 20ft away from his house. Is this a problem?
14 years in the industry....ask the next pest control guy you see at a gas station if he/she has bait stations around their own house....please comment back if you find one.
Termidor wouldn't work for my house cause it's surrounded by a bunch of trees and plants, including fruit bearing ones, the Termidor would contaminate those trees and plants, are there alternatives?

If they don’t give me $195. I’ll cancel and buy the Taurus SC for $200 and apply the product myself all around the house. Home team mentioned last year during my inspection about a house in my neighborhood had termites in the flowerbeds that had wood mulch. I said that is a good way to market and get business. I mentioned to the sales guy. I’ll you have to do is keep the mulch away from your foundation and you will be fine. He did mentioned a termite baiting system I’m going to need in a few years. I told him I’ll pass. 🤦♂️
A couple days ago I noticed a dark object close to the ceiling in our bathroom, above the door. I thought it is some kind of black butterfly, so I decided not to bother it and let it fly away next day. Next day I saw several other "butterflies" sitting on another side of the same wall, which is our master bedroom wall. They were also located above the same door to the bathroom. I decided to remove them with a rag and let them fly outside. On the removal I saw that they are not black butterflies, but some kind of black stuff w/larvae inside. I also noticed small holes in the drywall, about 1/8" X 1/4". I decided to patch those holes next day w/ a spackling paste, but next day I saw that the black mounts came back (they are like small mounts perpendicular to the wall), 8 of them on the wall in the master bedroom, 1 hole in the bathroom above the door and 1 on the ceiling of the bathroom, like 1 yard to the door. I started to do a research on youtube and fortunately came across useful films. I looked outside (it is a brick wall) and 'saw a few (like dozen) of black insects (without wings already). I sprayed them with what I had at that moment Hot Shot for flying insects and didn't see them next day, just a few ants. I looked everywhere around the basement of the house, nothing. So I think they are termites which got into the wall. The worker and soldier bugs have a bit orange on the head, 2 black bugs are one w/wings (4 of equal length) and another without them. While I was doing research and drinking coffee (like in 2 hours), the mounts were formed again. I took a glass container w/them to Lowes store for identification, but they don't know much which kind of termites were those. I think they might come through the roof, bcs previous year we had some trees cut near that bathroom, maybe those bugs were on the brunches). Would it be enough to drill some holes in the wall and spray some Termidor there? Or I need to cut off the square of the drywall in that area, so I can monitor better? Olena , I am currently having same issue in our guest bathroom. I have called pest control company. It is better let proffessional take care of it. I made one mistake. I sprayed termite killer from lows and sprayed it which I should not have done it. Seems like I distrubed those termites and they not no longer in that wall and exterminiator may not be happy with me when he shows up tomorrow.

They are not skilled well or educated in their business, have no professional dignity. They'll do a chemical attack on your house, bcs that will give them option to chasrge you more. Hopefully it is different in your place, but keep in mind what I said. I didn't use any pest services here, but everything I tried before (plumbing, electrical, cars, air duck cleaning, AC) was horrible, on the level of the 3rd world country. So I don't want play that game "If you don't like us, pls pay for what we did (and in most cases think of damage) and find someone else". Thanks, tried many times before, loosing thousands. Now I do everything myself. You also might think of applying Termidor. There is very good link on youtube "Guy's Pest Solutions". I advise you to contact him, he answers all the questions, before your "professional" arrives.

Owned a pest control company for 22 yrs and baiting stations are only good when you apply chemical treatment. They only good for monitoring for termites. Not a pretreatment.
A great deal many exterminators use them as a go-to treatment method here and it disturbs me greatly to see houses destroyed when a simple soil treatment would eliminate them easy
I’ve been baiting with Sentricon (always active) RTI stations with great success, i’ve had termite workers hit those stations within a week most of the time, and as you know a colony cannot survive without workers feeding them, once they find that station they send out the pheromone to the other workers to feed on the novaflumuron bait and they die and without workers to feed the soldiers, reproductives and Queen..the rest of the colony will soon die afterwards, liquids work but only when the termites pass through it, it’s not killing the whole colony, And a termite only needs 1/32 of an inch to get through so if there is a break in a continuous liquid application they will find it
Quite the sales pitch. I’m sure it works on a lot of people but you and I both know when workers fail to return to the colony the reproductive termites just make more workers also in studies with termidor they don’t search for other breaks in the barrier since they have no idea the barrier is even there. I prefer customers who are educated on facts not half truths to get the sale. It seems that’s what you are feeding people and it’s a shame you aren’t more honest.
Hi, do you know how I can use the Termidor if my house is surrounded by concrete? I have an area of soil/grass in the front yard and in the backyard but not against the house
It’s very common to have termites under pads of concrete. Holes have to be drilled in the concrete and termiticide has to be injected under the concrete.
Curious and hope you respond fairly quick. Will termadore work on carpenter ants and or regular ants? As we speak I have killed 100 carpenter ants ( dozen or so have wings so I know those are breeders) on my livingroom wall and floor. I'm in Florida and summer breeding going on. I want to use termadore as a preventive for termites but need to hit these carpenter ants.

I was referring to your video on bait stations with cardboard in them. Also the bait station i was talking about has wood n a monitoring bait. cartridge above it This attracts the termites. When a person chks the station . And they find termites in it. They replace it with a active bait which they then injest and take back to the neat and destroys the nest it also works on carpenter ants...

Most Houses here are all concrete, from Base footing to everything, woods are mostly just Kitchens, door Jamb, doors and Cabinets for clothes. Appreciate the Video, huge help.
We just had terminex come out and suggest a bait system and spray only under half of the house and a spot in our garage and sun room. The guy crawled under the house and found active termites and a tunnel as big as his finger but said because if duct work under the house he could only either treat half of the crawl space with the chemicals and could apply bait stations around the house. Then he said the other option would be to get a hvac guy to rip out the duct work and reroute to the attic and rip out of the insulation so he can treat it and then they could add a dehumidifier. So with there quote of either half treatment for 1500 or the other crazy quote for 5k+ im considering doing it ourselves because they are both ridiculous! So my question is how do you apply termidor successfully?
In an instance where treating a crawl space is impossible because of ducts, I usually use rod extensions. Rod extensions are a piece of equipment that attaches to the end of a B&G injector tool that allows the Exterminator to treat hard-to-reach areas without destroying the home in the process. It sounds like you need a 2nd opinion. I personally always advise my customers to get a 2nd and 3rd opinion even if they want to hire me to ensure they get the best job.
Hi Mate , I am living in Sydney Australia . My property is in slope area . We also had termite issue before , now we have 16 Extrra Baiting System surround our property . The pest control guy told me that the barriers system does not suit my property as rain will flash away the chemical from the ground .In comparison the baiting system is more efficient for our property. I appreciate very much if you could give me some advice .
Australia is a totally different environment than Virginia and you have species I’m not familiar with. Eastern subterranean termites are all I deal with
Someone is suppose to be doing termite treatment for my home and he is using "Taurus SC" around the perimeter of my home, not drilling the garage. This is what is proposed and is this good enough for a 3300 sq ft home? "Termite Treatment - Exterior & Crawl spaceTermite Treatment using Taurus SC- Trench and Treatment interior and exterior of crawlspace- Garage, front porch, and the walkway along the back of the house will be waived- Retreat warranty for $150 per year for the next five years" The other termite service using Termidor HE will do this:"Full termite treatment consisting of trenching the exterior and the crawlspace & drilling all foundation slabs and blocks for termiticide application. Includes damage and retreatment warranty for first year. Renewable upon completion of annual inspection."Which termite service do you recommend in the two examples above? Thanks!!
What is your take on the Borax treatment? I have applied it to the bare studs inside my house and noticed after it dries, it leaves a crystallized coating everywhere it was applied. Supposedly this treatment is a permanent preventive treatment. Before applying the Borax treatment, I've had Termites inside my home and have eliminated them with a perimeter barrier, and I'm wondering if the Borax treatment will prevent any further infestations.
Borax is a great treatment for the outer layers of the wood. Homes that are treated with borates are not completely protected because there are spots where one cannot get the chemical to treat. For Example: Your plate sits on top of the foundation wall. Where the plate comes into contact with the concrete or block wall there is a non treated area. Now in concrete walls you do have a little more protection because the wall is solid but in a block construction there are voids where termites can travel to get into your plates, and then into the home itself. I would still do a chemical barrier along side the borates for the best job possible.
I got a question. I live on a boat in the water in south Florida and recently discovered it is infested with termites. It's a 32 foot power boat and fiberglass haul. Would termidor work...what would be the best course of action to treat them? I would like to have something that they can take to the nest as all my wood is covered by a vinyl or carpet. the foam I don't think would even work bc it's just a boards under the vinyl. I rather not hire someone as it's way to expensive for me right now.i heard about the tent a options but know you have to stay somewhere else for a while when it's done. thanks Ben
It sounds like you have either drywood termites or carpenter ants. Make sure that it is not carpenter ants and that it is indeed termites because the treatments can differ. I had a customer once who found a nest of carpenter ants in his boat that after a few treatments we were able to eliminate his issue with very little cost to him. Tenting is an option for boats but I would have to ask someone with more expertise with drywood termites because here in my area of Virginia we do not have these pests so I don't have a lot of experience with them.
Jason, thanks very much for your video. I live in northwestern VA, use an exterminator who uses bait stations--the whole deal you described. However, I DO have a well close to the house. If the stations don't work, do I have ANY other alternative? Anything I can do that will help and won't hurt the well? Thanks very much. M
With well water you can remove the soil, treat the soil, then place it back around the home if the home is too close to the well. This will protect the ground water from leaching.
I’m a baseboard jockey too because old school is the correct way to kill bugs. If you don’t like to give customers what they ask for then by all means continue
i know i am six years late but so much truth here. i'm a current pest tech and i cant stand how our company pushes bait station. we barely ever do liquid treatments. its a constant yearly revenue source and that is why they are used. we inspect them all year to, even in the snow and ice, such a joke.
I believe him, seems very logical and honest and I'm sure this man has tons of business so no need to slander other businesses. Why else would people pay so much to take care of infestations if it were as easy as putting some stakes in the ground :/ It may kill termites but does it kill the colony is the question. If you've ever seen termites swarm out of your home in springtime you'll see there are thousands upon thousands and that is just the ones with wings going to breed not counting all the foragers.

I haven't read/seen anything good about baits other than they are great for making money for the termite companies.

Lifeform borax by itself is not effective against bugs you need a sodium borate type of pesticide to kill any bugs. A lot of people confuse borax with boric acid and other borates because it’s derived from the same minerals
Hi Jason, great info!! One question: We've had three 'swarms' inside the house (in the last 2 months) starting in the attic and they come down the stairs, under the door, into the kitchen and living room. It's between 11 am and 1pm, in the spring and each time when the weather would get warmer, that's when they show up "fast", like within 1 hour. These have wings, and I see discarded wings (many), on top and in boxes and bags in the attic. I also see black wiggly ones, no wings, crawling around on the floors with the winged ones. There were a few mud tubes on the outside of the house that my brother saw and knocked off last year. There has been a tube like thing inside on the window panel, that he knocked off too (only one), and then there was some floor wood damage chewed in the attic (12'x12' square), that we could see. Here's the thing, his friend's exterminator company is saying it's not termites, that it looks like some kind of weevil. BUT...these look EXACTLY like every termite swarm I've seen on youtube. I can't find one "weevil" that these look like. So they came out, sprayed with talstar around and in the house, but it only lasts 3 months and I don't think that's going to work. the next day there was another swarm, and they said it's normal, will take a few days to take effect. Any thoughts? I took macro pics of them and they REALLY look like termites. I can't understand why they think they're weevils. I like them, they're nice people, but if they are making the mistake of misdiagnosing, than it could be trouble for us down the line, if we're not using the correct pesticide. Ps...should we also spray the roof, since they seem to be coming through the atiic roof rafters too?
It sounds like a termite infestation for sure. The swarmers will lose their wings after swarming so this is why some don't have any wings. These are not weevils and it sounds like the exterminator has no idea how to identify the problem. Everything you have told me indicates termites for sure. Fire the exterminator and hire someone who knows their stuff! Your house could get serious issues if they are left to eat the place to the ground! Also subterranean termites live underground so treating the soil they travel through should be the solution to the problem. No need to treat the attic but if you are worried the pest control technician can always apply premise bait into the infected wood upstairs.
Termite baiting systems do not work to stop or even prevent a termite problem in most cases. I have been performing pest control in Hampton Roads since 2011 and have never seen them work. I used to be a termite retreater for a large company and every house I had to retreat had those stations installed. The company I work for now uses Fuze and we get good results with it. A formulation of fipronil and imidacloprid combined.
I was looking into having a termidor treatment on the outside perimeter of my house to fix my termite problem. I have a well head 20' from my outside wall of house and a vegetable garden 25' from outside wall of house. Could I have a contamination problem of the well and or garden?
nick singer there are safe ways to treat a home with Termidor even when wells and Gardens are nearby. Most exterminators don't like to have to remove the dirt, treat it and return it. It adds a lot of labor but it does work.
What are you thoughts on treating a home that sits on treated 8x8 Beams cemented into the ground? Saturate around each Beam?? Thanks in advance for any answers.

SC has worked wonders for me so I just stick with what works. I know that HE has a slightly different label but I'm getting 16 years with SC just like the label promises
Not really…they still work the exact same as they always have. Termites need to find the bait and eat the bait and if the termites are satisfied with the home they are inside and aren’t actively looking in the areas where the bait is installed or consist of more than one colony the bait just wont work at all. Sorry I have to speak the truth but this is common knowledge in the industry. I was told this exact thing from a Sentricon sales rep.
bluedogfish2 In VA it isn’t allowed to retreat unless active termites are found UNLESS the customer cancels their warranty contract. But Termidor is good for 16 years if applied correctly
Glad I saw this video. I was going to have a company come out and put stations in, even though I have no signs of any termites. It was going to be $700-750 for the install of stations and $200 annually for monitoring. Should I just spray the Taurus SC every 10 yrs or so or is there another way to monitor for termites?
Green Akers Pest Control LLC wow, yeah I cant imagine that down by the docs. I think its illegal to even have that type of chemical anywhere near an area close to any body of water that contains fish. Friend of mine had a huge lawsuit against his company and ended up having to buy thousands of fish to put back into the river. Treating a doc/boat house, river house... bad idea with anything that comes out of a sprayer.
SarmShark Research termites shouldn’t be in a dock if they are eastern subterranean termites. They don’t like high moisture content. But pesticide is very label specific. Some labels allow for it some do not
A bait station shouldn't have cardboard in it at all. If you have a pest control "professional" that uses cardboard, get your money back. Ideally, a chemical application (Termidor, or a firpronil alternative) should be applied around the home and bait stations are used for secondary treatment or monitoring. Sentricon or even Advance bait stations, will ideally (if used correctly) will have active pesticides in their bait stations. They will work but take longer than the chemical application. These stations need to not only be installed around the perimeter of the home but specifically where the termites have been located (using above ground stations on mud tubes). This is specific for subterranean termites in the east/north-east.
Soak the bait Stations in Termidor / Taurus SC and Chlordane and you will never see Termites or ants on your property again. I have a deep well on my property. Now you know the method to my madness and i don't have to waste my hard on money on an Exterminator.

I offer a 1, 2 or 3 year warranty but the only downfall is the same thing that causes baits to fail is poor drains and water over flow. I have homes though that I have warranties for over 30 years that still have not had a single termite return
When using Termidor in a perimeter plus treatment you are required to treat the perimeter of the home PLUS any other infested areas like stumps, landscape timbers, and wood inside the home. I would use that if you are concerned about them getting in the home or have an exterminator come out for a free inspection of your home. Remember if termites are eating wood they are only doing their job and if they are in a tree or stump and far enough away from the home I would leave them be.
I disagree. Bait stations can be an effective tool for a PMP, if treated as what it is... A monitoring device. Every system can fail, including Termidor applications. It all comes down to the applicator and how well they are monitoring your system. I personally feel bait stations plus a liquid backfill is extremely effective. Nothing wrong with DIY, but the majority of people that go that route don't educate themselves and end up misapplying products and doing the wrong thing.
I didn't say I had a failed Termidor application, just that they exist and are a thing in the world. It all comes down to the applicator. It's the not the system, it's who using it. And even then, stuff happens. You're saying you've never ever in thirty years (even though Termidor hasn't been available that long) had to retreat a structure you treated with Termidor? I call bull. Nothing against Termidor, it's a great product and I use it as well. Going on the internet and telling homeowners who rely on people like you and me for sound advice that termite bait stations are a scam is irresponsible and inaccurate.
BUT in the 17 years I have had Termidor loose it's potency and termites returned to a location and had to be retreated but the lifespan of the pesticide is about 16 years anyway.
I have been behind so many bait station systems that failed with active plans (where a tech would inspect on a regular basis) and homes were literally falling apart. I had one home where the ends of every floor joist were completely eaten to when you walked into the home the whole floor would bow with your weight. The reason I advise people AGAINST using these systems is because they are not as effective and cost the client more money than they are worth. A great deal of pest control techs believe in getting as much for the problem as they can and I believe in saving my customer money. My customers appreciate the fact that my methods are effective for 16+ years and cost them so much less in maintenance that they tell their friends and family to hire me. Word of mouth is worth more than a bait station monitoring plan that the industry likes to peddle now.
The bait stations do seem like a lot of bother for nothing, but so do the regular "inspections" where some kid crawls up in your attic with a flashlight for 10 minutes, says you're ok and bills you $100. Why not just do the poison drench every year and skip all the drama?
The way a warranty works requires a trained professional to inspect once a year to ensure you don’t have any more termites. With eastern subterranean termites the pesticides can keep them away for 16 years so it’s up to you if you have the insurance or not

I've never heard of a company treating an active termite infestation with only bait stations. What is typically done is a liquid treatment to the affected area outside and inside the crawlspace. We always go a good bit beyond where active termites are found to make sure to get them all. While we prefer a full liquid treatment there are those who prefer the lower upfront cost of bait stations. If bait stations are used properly and installed at the correct distance from each other in accordance with the manufacturer's label there shouldn't be a problem. This also requires constant ongoing inspection of the stations. If done right they are effective. If done wrong they won't work. Just like any other pest control product out there. Stick to the label and the law. That said we would prefer to do liquid treatment for full home coverage and a yearly inspection on the anniversary of the treatment. By the way, Termidor is our product of choice.
I have seen subterranean termites biting the bait from a bait station with just weeks of having been installed. There you go for bait stations being a scam. I testify that they work. The problem might not be the system but the installers themselves. If installers have not had a thorough training then they might place the stations in the wrong spots. A localized treatment along with the installation of bait stations is a great option for those instances where the application of a liquid termidicide could contaminate a nearby waterway. We just can't generalize and say something does not work. There are many factors involved in every situation. Thanks
I get much better results from Termidor than from baiting and I have used bait directly in infested wood itself and witnessed termites taking the bait. Just because they take the bait doesn't mean it works.
I agree. Termidor is a great product for subs infestation and I would rather trench around my house for Termidor application than install bait stations. But everyone has their own opinion on this subject. Thanks.
Usually from a bath trap. When the concrete floor is poured under a bathtub they usually frame in a spot for the pipes to run. A lot of times these frame boards are left behind and attract termites later down the line.

@@GreenAkersPC my exterminator plans to drill holes into my cement foundation inside the home to kill some found in a closet. (Home is empty now im in process of buying) almost decided not to buy. Agent says they are able to be killed. Most of damage he found was from fungus?

Sounds like you are confusing Termite "Baiting" with Termite "Monitoring". Termite monitoring is a joke and a rip off, it is not labeled as a "treatmet" the wood dowel or paper towel roll in the ground under a plastic cover, come back a see if there is activity is not termite baiting. The Always Active Sentricon install has active ingredient in every station from day one with above ground station applications for almost any mud tube/kick out hole/active area. That being said Termidor works great, we offer both. Be carful throwing words like "scam" around.

"an insurance scam" I think telling people that they require bait station monitoring when a simple trench application is all they need, will last longer, and do a better job over all, is a scam. I treat my customers as I do my family and do the best job possible and I cannot support bait station monitoring. Termites HAVE to go through a termidor barrier to enter the home...they don't have to go into a bait station

I know of cut rate exterminators local in the area who cut pesticides all the time with Termidor who still, even with the awful ethics, eliminate termites with one trip. A Hammer can get a screw into a plank of wood but a power drill is the right tool for the job...I mean if we are talking tools here. I see baiting termites as the hammer...in case it wasn't clear
I have never subscribed to anyone on the internet since I've been on for many years! You are the most honest man about your business. How do I know? Because I recently found I have termites and when I found them I thought it was ants because that's what I found in my front door which was very seldom use. The side door was 99% use by everyone. I have a wood frame home with osb witch is plywood on the exterior walls and T1/11 which is a 5/8 pine bye 4' bye 8' sheets. My foundation is concrete block and at least 16" to 24" above finish grade. Please recommend a solution! I was going to put bait stations around and put borax with a little salt painted on a six inch bye six ft. Piece of rolled up cardboard, inside of plastic wrap leaving the bottom open and the top sealed and bury them flush with the ground. I am farmer and a country boy, so I'm not scared of any work! And I have my pesticide license. Please help... Thank you...
It depends on the type of subterranean termites you have and what state you live in on what will work best for you. Here in Virginia I use Termidor as a termite treatment but we only have Eastern Subterranean termites here. formosan termites may be a different treatment method and I wouldn't be one to ask that advice. A trench and treatment is recommended for outside parameter walls of the home but if there is a concrete pad outside the door in question, holes will need to be drilled in order to get the chemical to soak into the ground under the slab. I suggest sub-slab injection once these holes are drilled. Termidor has about a 16 year life-span. You can also buy Taurus as an alternative to Termidor's price tag. It is the same chemical just a generic brand.

Termidor. It has worked every time for me. Plus there's about 5 or 6 different blends and ways to apply Termidor, depending on the situation. I'm eastern shore of Maryland and owned my own Pest Control company for 20years. You are on point in every topic, in every video. Nice work!

You can do a chemical treatment around the perimeter (depending on the foundation), then install the stations to "monitor" future activity. Thats how you utilize the bait stations.
Only a fool would install bait stations with active termites on the property.

You're unfamiliar with current termite bait systems. Superior ones are always active. No monitoring. Do some research.
Dan Miles, you assume these people haven’t done their research. I’ve researched baiting termites since it was introduced. Sentricon is the same active ingredient as off brand lowes bait stations. Sentricon sales team members have told me themselves that if I have termidor or Taurus as an option, I should use that and NOT sentricon or baiting. I would assume you don’t like what I say here because it hits close to home. Either you bought a bait station system and had it installed or you are an installer and just hate hard facts. When baiting was first introduced in Virginia, it was standard practice to use cardboard or cellulose material in a station with no active ingredients until termites were found. I know that some companies have moved from that practice but I know of others who have not. The problem is not if the pesticide works it’s about what the termites find FIRST. Well they now have a system with sentricon and it has a bait station that you can put above ground, you put it right in the middle of a mud tube or right where active termites are going, it's like a paste with the active ingredient in it that kills the termite colony. We do both liquid and bait at the company that I work at, Bait stations and liquid treatments, bait stations are only good for subterranean termites though, drywood termites we have to use a similar product to termidor SC, Boracare or Taurus sc.
I had a liquid treatment done at my house, and I still had termites after the liquid treatment was done two years later, I helped the guy do it so I know it was done properly but it did not eliminate all termites. I installed bait stations about a year ago, I haven't had a problem since, not saying they're not there but I inspect my home on a regular basis. I think bait stations are great, so are liquid treatments, it just needs to be based on what the home needs. If there are no active termites in the home, bait stations are going to be the way to go.
I hired my pest control company to help with termite issue. I have active termite in my back of the house and they installed the bait stations. Shouldn't they be using the liquid stuff around the house especially the back of the house?

We've suspected this bait-station stuff was a gimmick, and now I feel better about our decision to cancel our Termite Warranty. Great info. I use bait stations and have successfully baited/treated termites with them. Granted I would never expect this to be my sole preventative measure for termites. I would spray but these termites are just in the field (1.25acre land) so I catch them before they get too close.
Just discovered a small swarm in our basement, I believe small red winged termite. Probably was dormant for years, purchase the home 6 years ago and was not noticed during home inspection. Now we are faced with damaged floor joists and a small swarm of termites. Oh boy! Thanks for your info, appreciate it.

Bait stations do work. Monitoring stations is what he's talking about. With a monitoring station wood is placed in the station, checked quarterly and if termites are discovered the customer gets a termidor liquid treatment. However most of the larger companies have gone away from that. Now the the termite poison is placed in the bait station from day one and starts working the moment you put it in the ground. Bait is the best way to kill the queen. Liquid can dissipate with rain plus it only goes down maybe 3 feet. Queens can be 6 feet deep so when she is fed with the poisonous bait she dies and the colony dies. It's bait contains an IGR insect growth regulator which once invested it prevents the termite from molting and if they can't molt they die. Bait uses they foraging habits against them. I work for one of the larger companies and if a customer has termites we immediately do a liquid treat where they were found and then install the bait stations to continue to kill any ore colonies in the are that can't be seen. So they work if used the right way.

Ano Ali if I were you I would use Taurus, its generic Fipronil but works just as well from what I see. I do not trust pyrethroids for termite treatments.
If termites already inside my home and in the walls how applying termidor arround foundation will kill them ? Do termites cross over those trench and go outside and come in? It may prvent termites from getting into our home but termites already inside may continue to live and destroy home.
Eastern subterranean termites don’t live in the house they live in the ground. If you place a pesticide barrier between the ground and the food they will die
I have recently found some subtereans in a garage wall I must treat. My garage is attached to the house which sits on a wood subfloor. Any ideas on a good way to treat a subfloor and cement block foundation with a 2 1/2 ft crawl space?

Exit holes from drywall running up stud in 1 room.) We were told not to worry since subterranean. After your video, we are now really concerned combo will be effective. Other than exit holes in room, can't see what type of damage behind drywall.
My exterminator recommended removing and replacing all drywall and wood affected.
I was making a new house and a friend of mine noticed a long piece of mud trail on one of the window, and he told me I had termites. I asked him how he knew, and said termites can't stand light and they travel thru small mud tunnels. By the next day I went to Lowes and bought some termite stake bait stations, the ones you need to bury and only the top is exposed. I left them for about a month and a half and most of them start hitting or they had a little plastic on top that as soon as the termites start eating it raises up, letting you know yo have termites. I called for an estimate from an exterminator but was too expensive. He quoted me 8 hundred something and then every visit about 120. Luckily he knew my dad from a previous job they worked together and he let me know exactly what I had to do. He told me to dig a small trench all the way around the house, buy some termidor you can buy online or maybe at your hardware store. For every 5 gallons of water you add couple of onces and mix well, and do this all the way around the house. Next put dirt back in the trench and respray with a pressure sprayer. I took out old termite stakes and buried new ones, and guess what, no more termites. I've been respraying with a pressure sprayer just for shits and jiggles. I always wondered how I got so many termites in the first place, so I talked to another exterminator, and he suggested that the top soil that was put before the house was even built was infested with termites, I added the top soil to make the house much higher in case of a flood or bad hurricane. Anyway just wanted to share this info, and thanks for the video! Cheers!
Not attracted to light? The formosan termites in my part of the country sure are. When they swarm everyone turns their porch and inside lights off, they are extremely attracted to light!

Yes I have ants year round and now I have termites! Winded termites are coming inside the home from cracks behind my furnace that I cannot reach.
I tried to seal up the space behind my furnace with foam insulation but they are still getting through the cracks!
I have a slab house. So no wood underneath my house. No basement. Maybe they are getting in through the attic? Or I have so many cracks and it's a thin and cheaply built small house so it wouldn't be hard to get in.
I don't know if I should schedule a visit from Orkin? They are so expensive. And they will want to do it many times and charge me over and over for it.
Even if I got borax, I don't know where I would put it? Around my furnace but idk where they are coming into the house from?
Also, I read if you just pour the powder down, it won't stop an infestation.

I found termites in our flower bed six months ago, got the bait stations then, no termites in the bait stations at quarterly monitoring, but some in the flower bed six months later, and alleged mud tubes getting into the house. In the process of scheduling a re-treatment with Termidor. I hope it works.

My neighbor installed bait stations on our property line, the thing is the stations are closer to my foundation than his. Only 5-6 feet from my foundation and around 20ft away from his house. Is this a problem?
14 years in the industry....ask the next pest control guy you see at a gas station if he/she has bait stations around their own house....please comment back if you find one.
Termidor wouldn't work for my house cause it's surrounded by a bunch of trees and plants, including fruit bearing ones, the Termidor would contaminate those trees and plants, are there alternatives?
You’re misinformed. You can use termidor in the soil around your house without tainting the trees lol
makes total sense to me, with the chemical your covering a lot more area

If they don’t give me $195. I’ll cancel and buy the Taurus SC for $200 and apply the product myself all around the house. Home team mentioned last year during my inspection about a house in my neighborhood had termites in the flowerbeds that had wood mulch. I said that is a good way to market and get business. I mentioned to the sales guy. I’ll you have to do is keep the mulch away from your foundation and you will be fine. He did mentioned a termite baiting system I’m going to need in a few years. I told him I’ll pass. 🤦♂️

A couple days ago I noticed a dark object close to the ceiling in our bathroom, above the door. I thought it is some kind of black butterfly, so I decided not to bother it and let it fly away next day. Next day I saw several other "butterflies" sitting on another side of the same wall, which is our master bedroom wall. They were also located above the same door to the bathroom. I decided to remove them with a rag and let them fly outside. On the removal I saw that they are not black butterflies, but some kind of black stuff w/larvae inside. I also noticed small holes in the drywall, about 1/8" X 1/4". I decided to patch those holes next day w/ a spackling paste, but next day I saw that the black mounts came back (they are like small mounts perpendicular to the wall), 8 of them on the wall in the master bedroom, 1 hole in the bathroom above the door and 1 on the ceiling of the bathroom, like 1 yard to the door. I started to do a research on youtube and fortunately came across useful films. I looked outside (it is a brick wall) and 'saw a few (like dozen) of black insects (without wings already). I sprayed them with what I had at that moment Hot Shot for flying insects and didn't see them next day, just a few ants. I looked everywhere around the basement of the house, nothing. So I think they are termites which got into the wall. The worker and soldier bugs have a bit orange on the head, 2 black bugs are one w/wings (4 of equal length) and another without them. While I was doing research and drinking coffee (like in 2 hours), the mounts were formed again. I took a glass container w/them to Lowes store for identification, but they don't know much which kind of termites were those. I think they might come through the roof, bcs previous year we had some trees cut near that bathroom, maybe those bugs were on the brunches). Would it be enough to drill some holes in the wall and spray some Termidor there? Or I need to cut off the square of the drywall in that area, so I can monitor better? Olena , I am currently having same issue in our guest bathroom. I have called pest control company. It is better let proffessional take care of it. I made one mistake. I sprayed termite killer from lows and sprayed it which I should not have done it. Seems like I distrubed those termites and they not no longer in that wall and exterminiator may not be happy with me when he shows up tomorrow.

They are not skilled well or educated in their business, have no professional dignity. They'll do a chemical attack on your house, bcs that will give them option to chasrge you more. Hopefully it is different in your place, but keep in mind what I said. I didn't use any pest services here, but everything I tried before (plumbing, electrical, cars, air duck cleaning, AC) was horrible, on the level of the 3rd world country. So I don't want play that game "If you don't like us, pls pay for what we did (and in most cases think of damage) and find someone else". Thanks, tried many times before, loosing thousands. Now I do everything myself. You also might think of applying Termidor. There is very good link on youtube "Guy's Pest Solutions". I advise you to contact him, he answers all the questions, before your "professional" arrives.

Owned a pest control company for 22 yrs and baiting stations are only good when you apply chemical treatment. They only good for monitoring for termites. Not a pretreatment.
A great deal many exterminators use them as a go-to treatment method here and it disturbs me greatly to see houses destroyed when a simple soil treatment would eliminate them easy

I’ve been baiting with Sentricon (always active) RTI stations with great success, i’ve had termite workers hit those stations within a week most of the time, and as you know a colony cannot survive without workers feeding them, once they find that station they send out the pheromone to the other workers to feed on the novaflumuron bait and they die and without workers to feed the soldiers, reproductives and Queen..the rest of the colony will soon die afterwards, liquids work but only when the termites pass through it, it’s not killing the whole colony, And a termite only needs 1/32 of an inch to get through so if there is a break in a continuous liquid application they will find it
Quite the sales pitch. I’m sure it works on a lot of people but you and I both know when workers fail to return to the colony the reproductive termites just make more workers also in studies with termidor they don’t search for other breaks in the barrier since they have no idea the barrier is even there.
I prefer customers who are educated on facts not half truths to get the sale. It seems that’s what you are feeding people and it’s a shame you aren’t more honest.

Hi, do you know how I can use the Termidor if my house is surrounded by concrete? I have an area of soil/grass in the front yard and in the backyard but not against the house
It’s very common to have termites under pads of concrete. Holes have to be drilled in the concrete and termiticide has to be injected under the concrete.

Curious and hope you respond fairly quick. Will termadore work on carpenter ants and or regular ants? As we speak I have killed 100 carpenter ants ( dozen or so have wings so I know those are breeders) on my livingroom wall and floor. I'm in Florida and summer breeding going on. I want to use termadore as a preventive for termites but need to hit these carpenter ants.

We just had terminex come out and suggest a bait system and spray only under half of the house and a spot in our garage and sun room. The guy crawled under the house and found active termites and a tunnel as big as his finger but said because if duct work under the house he could only either treat half of the crawl space with the chemicals and could apply bait stations around the house. Then he said the other option would be to get a hvac guy to rip out the duct work and reroute to the attic and rip out of the insulation so he can treat it and then they could add a dehumidifier. So with there quote of either half treatment for 1500 or the other crazy quote for 5k+ im considering doing it ourselves because they are both ridiculous! So my question is how do you apply termidor successfully?
In an instance where treating a crawl space is impossible because of ducts, I usually use rod extensions. Rod extensions are a piece of equipment that attaches to the end of a B&G injector tool that allows the Exterminator to treat hard-to-reach areas without destroying the home in the process. It sounds like you need a 2nd opinion. I personally always advise my customers to get a 2nd and 3rd opinion even if they want to hire me to ensure they get the best job.

Hi Mate , I am living in Sydney Australia . My property is in slope area . We also had termite issue before , now we have 16 Extrra Baiting System surround our property . The pest control guy told me that the barriers system does not suit my property as rain will flash away the chemical from the ground .In comparison the baiting system is more efficient for our property. Australia is a totally different environment than Virginia and you have species I’m not familiar with. Eastern subterranean termites are all I deal with

This is what is proposed and is this good enough for a 3300 sq ft home? What is your take on the Borax treatment?
I have applied it to the bare studs inside my house and noticed after it dries, it leaves a crystallized coating everywhere it was applied. Supposedly this treatment is a permanent preventive treatment. Before applying the Borax treatment, I've had Termites inside my home and have eliminated them with a perimeter barrier, and I'm wondering if the Borax treatment will prevent any further infestations.
Borax is a great treatment for the outer layers of the wood. Homes that are treated with borates are not completely protected because there are spots where one cannot get the chemical to treat.
For Example: Your plate sits on top of the foundation wall. Where the plate comes into contact with the concrete or block wall there is a non treated area. Now in concrete walls you do have a little more protection because the wall is solid but in a block construction there are voids where termites can travel to get into your plates, and then into the home itself.
I would still do a chemical barrier along side the borates for the best job possible.
I got a question. I live on a boat in the water in south Florida and recently discovered it is infested with termites. It's a 32 foot power boat and fiberglass haul. Would termidor work...what would be the best course of action to treat them? I would like to have something that they can take to the nest as all my wood is covered by a vinyl or carpet. the foam I don't think would even work bc it's just a boards under the vinyl. I rather not hire someone as it's way to expensive for me right now.i heard about the tent a options but know you have to stay somewhere else for a while when it's done. thanks

It sounds like you have either drywood termites or carpenter ants. Make sure that it is not carpenter ants and that it is indeed termites because the treatments can differ. I had a customer once who found a nest of carpenter ants in his boat that after a few treatments we were able to eliminate his issue with very little cost to him.
Tenting is an option for boats but I would have to ask someone with more expertise with drywood termites because here in my area of Virginia we do not have these pests so I don't have a lot of experience with them.

With well water you can remove the soil, treat the soil, then place it back around the home if the home is too close to the well. This will protect the ground water from leaching.

i know i am six years late but so much truth here. i'm a current pest tech and i cant stand how our company pushes bait station. we barely ever do liquid treatments. its a constant yearly revenue source and that is why they are used. we inspect them all year to, even in the snow and ice, such a joke.

It may kill termites but does it kill the colony is the question. If you've ever seen termites swarm out of your home in springtime you'll see there are thousands upon thousands and that is just the ones with wings going to breed not counting all the foragers.
David U termidor has the active ingredient “fipronil” which is designed to wipe out the entire colony, even the ones not in the home .

Termidor allows for the treatment of soil around the house as long as the well is outside of 10 feet

Lifeform borax by itself is not effective against bugs you need a sodium borate type of pesticide to kill any bugs. A lot of people confuse borax with boric acid and other borates because it’s derived from the same minerals

Hi Jason, great info!! One question: We've had three 'swarms' inside the house (in the last 2 months) starting in the attic and they come down the stairs, under the door, into the kitchen and living room. It's between 11 am and 1pm, in the spring and each time when the weather would get warmer, that's when they show up "fast", like within 1 hour. These have wings, and I see discarded wings (many), on top and in boxes and bags in the attic. I also see black wiggly ones, no wings, crawling around on the floors with the winged ones. There were a few mud tubes on the outside of the house that my brother saw and knocked off last year. There has been a tube like thing inside on the window panel, that he knocked off too (only one), and then there was some floor wood damage chewed in the attic (12'x12' square), that we could see. Here's the thing, his friend's exterminator company is saying it's not termites, that it looks like some kind of weevil. BUT...these look EXACTLY like every termite swarm I've seen on youtube. I can't find one "weevil" that these look like. So they came out, sprayed with talstar around and in the house, but it only lasts 3 months and I don't think that's going to work. the next day there was another swarm, and they said it's normal, will take a few days to take effect. Any thoughts? I took macro pics of them and they REALLY look like termites. I can't understand why they think they're weevils. I like them, they're nice people, but if they are making the mistake of misdiagnosing, than it could be trouble for us down the line, if we're not using the correct pesticide. Ps...should we also spray the roof, since they seem to be coming through the atiic roof rafters too?
It sounds like a termite infestation for sure. The swarmers will lose their wings after swarming so this is why some don't have any wings. These are not weevils and it sounds like the exterminator has no idea how to identify the problem. Everything you have told me indicates termites for sure. Fire the exterminator and hire someone who knows their stuff! Your house could get serious issues if they are left to eat the place to the ground!
Also subterranean termites live underground so treating the soil they travel through should be the solution to the problem. No need to treat the attic but if you are worried the pest control technician can always apply premise bait into the infected wood upstairs.
Termite baiting systems do not work to stop or even prevent a termite problem in most cases. I have been performing pest control in Hampton Roads since 2011 and have never seen them work. I used to be a termite retreater for a large company and every house I had to retreat had those stations installed. The company I work for now uses Fuze and we get good results with it. A formulation of fipronil and imidacloprid combined.
I was looking into having a termidor treatment on the outside perimeter of my house to fix my termite problem. I have a well head 20' from my outside wall of house and a vegetable garden 25' from outside wall of house. Could I have a contamination problem of the well and or garden?
nick singer there are safe ways to treat a home with Termidor even when wells and Gardens are nearby. Most exterminators don't like to have to remove the dirt, treat it and return it. It adds a lot of labor but it does work.
What are you thoughts on treating a home that sits on treated 8x8 Beams cemented into the ground? Saturate around each Beam?? Thanks in advance for any answers.

SC has worked wonders for me so I just stick with what works. I know that HE has a slightly different label but I'm getting 16 years with SC just like the label promises

Not really…they still work the exact same as they always have. Termites need to find the bait and eat the bait and if the termites are satisfied with the home they are inside and aren’t actively looking in the areas where the bait is installed or consist of more than one colony the bait just wont work at all. Sorry I have to speak the truth but this is common knowledge in the industry. I was told this exact thing from a Sentricon sales rep.

Glad I saw this video. I was going to have a company come out and put stations in, even though I have no signs of any termites. It was going to be $700-750 for the install of stations and $200 annually for monitoring. Should I just spray the Taurus SC every 10 yrs or so or is there another way to monitor for termites?

I think its illegal to even have that type of chemical anywhere near an area close to any body of water that contains fish. Friend of mine had a huge lawsuit against his company and ended up having to buy thousands of fish to put back into the river. Treating a doc/boat house, river house... bad idea with anything that comes out of a sprayer.
SarmShark Research termites shouldn’t be in a dock if they are eastern subterranean termites. They don’t like high moisture content. But pesticide is very label specific. Some labels allow for it some do not
A bait station shouldn't have cardboard in it at all. If you have a pest control "professional" that uses cardboard, get your money back. Ideally, a chemical application (Termidor, or a firpronil alternative) should be applied around the home and bait stations are used for secondary treatment or monitoring. Sentricon or even Advance bait stations, will ideally (if used correctly) will have active pesticides in their bait stations. They will work but take longer than the chemical application. These stations need to not only be installed around the perimeter of the home but specifically where the termites have been located (using above ground stations on mud tubes). This is specific for subterranean termites in the east/north-east.

I offer a 1, 2 or 3 year warranty but the only downfall is the same thing that causes baits to fail is poor drains and water over flow. I have homes though that I have warranties for over 30 years that still have not had a single termite return

When using Termidor in a perimeter plus treatment you are required to treat the perimeter of the home PLUS any other infested areas like stumps, landscape timbers, and wood inside the home. I would use that if you are concerned about them getting in the home or have an exterminator come out for a free inspection of your home. Remember if termites are eating wood they are only doing their job and if they are in a tree or stump and far enough away from the home I would leave them be.

I disagree. Bait stations can be an effective tool for a PMP, if treated as what it is... A monitoring device. Every system can fail, including Termidor applications. It all comes down to the applicator and how well they are monitoring your system. I personally feel bait stations plus a liquid backfill is extremely effective. Nothing wrong with DIY, but the majority of people that go that route don't educate themselves and end up misapplying products and doing the wrong thing.

I didn't say I had a failed Termidor application, just that they exist and are a thing in the world. It all comes down to the applicator. It's the not the system, it's who using it. And even then, stuff happens. You're saying you've never ever in thirty years (even though Termidor hasn't been available that long) had to retreat a structure you treated with Termidor? I call bull. Nothing against Termidor, it's a great product and I use it as well. Going on the internet and telling homeowners who rely on people like you and me for sound advice that termite bait stations are a scam is irresponsible and inaccurate.
no I haven't had a termidor application fail once in 17 years. Dursban now, that is a different story.
BUT in the 17 years I have had Termidor loose it's potency and termites returned to a location and had to be retreated but the lifespan of the pesticide is about 16 years anyway.
I have been behind so many bait station systems that failed with active plans (where a tech would inspect on a regular basis) and homes were literally falling apart. I had one home where the ends of every floor joist were completely eaten to when you walked into the home the whole floor would bow with your weight.
The reason I advise people AGAINST using these systems is because they are not as effective and cost the client more money than they are worth. A great deal of pest control techs believe in getting as much for the problem as they can and I believe in saving my customer money.
My customers appreciate the fact that my methods are effective for 16+ years and cost them so much less in maintenance that they tell their friends and family to hire me. Word of mouth is worth more than a bait station monitoring plan that the industry likes to peddle now.
The bait stations do seem like a lot of bother for nothing, but so do the regular "inspections" where some kid crawls up in your attic with a flashlight for 10 minutes, says you're ok and bills you $100. Why not just do the poison drench every year and skip all the drama?
The way a warranty works requires a trained professional to inspect once a year to ensure you don’t have any more termites. With eastern subterranean termites the pesticides can keep them away for 16 years so it’s up to you if you have the insurance or not

I've never heard of a company treating an active termite infestation with only bait stations. What is typically done is a liquid treatment to the affected area outside and inside the crawlspace. We always go a good bit beyond where active termites are found to make sure to get them all. While we prefer a full liquid treatment there are those who prefer the lower upfront cost of bait stations. If bait stations are used properly and installed at the correct distance from each other in accordance with the manufacturer's label there shouldn't be a problem. This also requires constant ongoing inspection of the stations. If done right they are effective. If done wrong they won't work. Just like any other pest control product out there. Stick to the label and the law. That said we would prefer to do liquid treatment for full home coverage and a yearly inspection on the anniversary of the treatment. By the way, Termidor is our product of choice.
I have seen subterranean termites biting the bait from a bait station with just weeks of having been installed. There you go for bait stations being a scam. I testify that they work. The problem might not be the system but the installers themselves. If installers have not had a thorough training then they might place the stations in the wrong spots. A localized treatment along with the installation of bait stations is a great option for those instances where the application of a liquid termidicide could contaminate a nearby waterway. We just can't generalize and say something does not work. There are many factors involved in every situation.

I get much better results from Termidor than from baiting and I have used bait directly in infested wood itself and witnessed termites taking the bait. Just because they take the bait doesn't mean it works.
I agree. Termidor is a great product for subs infestation and I would rather trench around my house for Termidor application than install bait stations. But everyone has their own opinion on this subject. Thanks.

Usually from a bath trap. When the concrete floor is poured under a bathtub they usually frame in a spot for the pipes to run. A lot of times these frame boards are left behind and attract termites later down the line.

Sounds like you are confusing Termite "Baiting" with Termite "Monitoring". Termite monitoring is a joke and a rip off, it is not labeled as a "treatmet" the wood dowel or paper towel roll in the ground under a plastic cover, come back a see if there is activity is not termite baiting.
The Always Active Sentricon install has active ingredient in every station from day one with above ground station applications for almost any mud tube/kick out hole/active area. That being said Termidor works great, we offer both.

I think telling people that they require bait station monitoring when a simple trench application is all they need, will last longer, and do a better job over all, is a scam.
I treat my customers as I do my family and do the best job possible and I cannot support bait station monitoring. Termites HAVE to go through a termidor barrier to enter the home...they don't have to go into a bait station

It's not the fault of the product or system. We sell both, they both fit a need and a market. I know of cut rate exterminators local in the area who cut pesticides all the time with Termidor who still, even with the awful ethics, eliminate termites with one trip.
A Hammer can get a screw into a plank of wood but a power drill is the right tool for the job...I mean if we are talking tools here. I see baiting termites as the hammer...in case it wasn't clear

I have never subscribed to anyone on the internet since I've been on for many years! You are the most honest man about your business. How do I know? Because I recently found I have termites and when I found them I thought it was ants because that's what I found in my front door which was very seldom use. The side door was 99% use by everyone. I have a wood frame home with osb witch is plywood on the exterior walls and T1/11 which is a 5/8 pine bye 4' bye 8' sheets. My foundation is concrete block and at least 16" to 24" above finish grade. Please recommend a solution! I was going to put bait stations around and put borax with a little salt painted on a six inch bye six ft. Piece of rolled up cardboard, inside of plastic wrap leaving the bottom open and the top sealed and bury them flush with the ground. I am farmer and a country boy, so I'm not scared of any work! And I have my pesticide license. Please help... Thank you...
It depends on the type of subterranean termites you have and what state you live in on what will work best for you. Here in Virginia I use Termidor as a termite treatment but we only have Eastern Subterranean termites here. formosan termites may be a different treatment method and I wouldn't be one to ask that advice. A trench and treatment is recommended for outside parameter walls of the home but if there is a concrete pad outside the door in question, holes will need to be drilled in order to get the chemical to soak into the ground under the slab. I suggest sub-slab injection once these holes are drilled.
Termidor has about a 16 year life-span. You can also buy Taurus as an alternative to Termidor's price tag. It is the same chemical just a generic brand.
