What a great sound! And again the question: 'Why hasn´t this miraculous pianist become much more famous as he was in reality?' - In fact, this is beyond comprehension. The fugue, technically much better played than Arthur Rubinstein did in his 'golden' César Franck rendition, IMO! Always masterly done..unmistakable! Very nice slight show!!
I have not heard all the recordings he made in his youth, but I agree with you. There is a greater spiritual dimension in his playing (a secular one, like in this work). I have also noticed it while listening to other recordings of this period.
An attractively spacious and contemplative account though pulling out the stops where needed and providing a resonant climax. With age, I think Fiorentino must have slowed down because his early recordings tend to be fast (e.g. the Chopin waltzes)!

Although there is a slight bloop at 16:53
I considered Cortot a reference in this piece, but Fiorentino gives a sound and monumental performance here. A true pianist

Yeah wish to know too.
Unsurpassed performance. Ausgezeichnet.
