- I would like to show you how my pocket watch etcetera tag came to life.
I created this project for the vault 2 release by Sizzix and Tim Holtz. In this video, I'll walk you through the main steps of my process and explain how I brought this little gem to life.
This tag has the quote "just one life" on it and that's also the idea behind this creation. When I saw the pocket watch and the other elements from the die cut set, I immediately knew what I wanted to do with them. I wanted to create a broken watch with time running out, to represent that we all have just one life and one chance to make the most of it - to love wholeheartedly, to cherish the people we meet, to collect memories, and to make each day extraordinary.

This piece turned out fantastically. Tim was blown away when he was presenting it on the live. To see that you used the continent drifting away from the watch was so symbolic of time getting away from us. Just AWESOME. Your imagination seems to be unending. Thanks for sharing. Hello Luise, you are so creatively talented, plus your sense of humor makes every video a treat! I also really appreciate how detailed you are in explaining your process and your knowledge of how each medium reacts to achieve a certain look. May I make a suggestion regarding the glued layers of gears? Perhaps after gluing the layers together, immediately lift the gear off the original surface and place it on a dry surface. This would leave the glue "webbing" from the gear spaces on the original area of the mat and might avoid having to poke the glue webbing out of the gear spaces after the fact. I have visions of you doing a full wall/art installation of grungy junk journal elements on a local building (similar to the artist "Banksy") so people can enjoy your talent!!

“Glue oopsies” is the perfect term for them lol. And 🤦♀️ When you started correcting yourself to call it a watch, I eventually started doing it mentally too. Then around 41:09 you said “watch” straight away & mentally I corrected it to “clock” 🤦♀️🤣😆😂

What a great piece. Your techniques are fabulous. I don't have the materials at the moments but there is more than one way to skin a cat and you give me great ideas to try.❤❤❤❤I love the theme too. I agree that art and craft can be profoundly and sometimes surprisingly meaningful. I recently made a hussif or housewife for a challenge. I love it and its very useful fir someone who stitches a lot like me. Since I made it I have been constantly thinking of my grandmother I called Nana Timpkins. She was a beautiful seamstress and I know she would love to see me creating beautiful things . She was born in 1904 and died in 1963. I have a beautiful photo of her, on my dressing table. She is 19 in the photo and so beautiful wearing a beret, her hair held in waves with bobby pins and a lovely embroidered blouse beneath her fur coat. She was poor most of her life but was so kind, loving and giving. I remember how much she loved me which comforts me. I am also making a soft goth journal called "Send me an Angel". It has evolved into an eighteenth century story of unrequited love with interesting characters coming from portraits I have drawn. All those one lives gone with the river of time passing.
I really resonate with your happiness story. My breakthrough with happiness was the idea that you can be happy for no reason in any given moment and the quickest way to find your happiness is to breathe gratitude into your heart. Nature always makes me happy. I just looked out of my window and a monarch butterfly is flitting around the flowers on the clerodendrun tree. Who could not smile seeing that.?

As you were making this, I was crafting along and making my birthday card for my youngest son’s 30th birthday. I chose to use the TH/sizzix texture fades embossing folder circuit #665372 and the old TH/sizzix die set gearhead #661184. I had been watching Tim’s Vault series when I started and then your video. When you and Tim talked about just one life I knew it was the perfect sentiment for his card. Thank you for all of your thoughts and wonderful creativity today Luise. 🤗🇨🇦🤗 Liz

Oh, wow! That is super cool and so artistic. Another thing that is so amazing to me is that you had this wonderful message to share along with your project. It has such meaning for me as my son passed away from terminal cancer 3 days after his 25th birthday. He had always been perfectly healthy and in great shape physically. He was very intelligent and artistically/musically talented. We never dreamed his life would be cut short and he would suffer so much. I totally understand your project and message. I will say make every moment count and make sure you tell those important to you that you love them as often as possible. You are awesome!
