    You should do "quest for giant northern pike" part 3 this fall. I liked the pike fishing videos last fall, they were very entertaining. And I think Robbie needs to get his 40 incher.

    Great tips in release, guys. So getting your lure bound up in the net is an intentional safety precaution! Heh!

      Its safer than having the other hook swinging around. Sometimes we even cut other hook off while unhooking to prevent getting hooked ourselves.

      Todays Angler Good point! I always get those other hooks hung up, but I hadn’t considered that it has saved me from hooking myself!

    I’ve found that the UA-cam comment section of fishing videos is usually the best to answer my questions no matter how dumb they may be. So here i go again. Can you use similar lures to fish for pike and musky? I’ve noticed musky lures tend to be bigger but I’m on a budget and want to catch both so is there a few lures or lure types to catch both? Thank you

    You know for a video on caring for the fish you made a bunch of not so awesome points. You didn’t want to cut your hooks cuz your bait is on fire... You can replace those. You held the fish vertically out of the water to remove hooks, leave it in the water and remove it underwater when possible. I’ve learned to do this over time way better. Good call leaving the lure in the net, i often read that the mesh nets are harder on the fish and you can see why by how long it took for you to get the lure out, not to mention the slime being removed. Wetting bump board etc is all great tips so thank you! The gloves are not necessary and actually have been known to remove way more slime than a wet hand we learned this while studying Atlantic salmon declines. Interesting stuff! Hope to see more

    Great video as usual. Have you been impacted by the high lake levels? Does a video related to high Lake levels make sense?

    When you hold the fish up for a picture, should you always support the belly or is it okay on smaller fish to hold them vertical with the gill?

    • @ehietpas07
      @ehietpas07 5 років тому

      Never vertical. Always hold the belly

    Cool vid guys and great info. Remember that if water temps are high it does the fish not much good to leave it in the top 1ft. of the surface for several minutes even if it's in the net because warm warm water doesn't contain adequate oxygen.

    I got a quick question what if the fish don’t look so good after all of that and you try everything to let it go and she will not swim away? Do you leave it for other fish and birds to eat it or do you harvest it for your self or what is the best thing to do if this happens??

    • @TodaysAngler
      @TodaysAngler  6 років тому +1

      Pretty rare for that to happen but...the best thing you can do with a struggling fish is to have it on the calm side of the boat and just keep the fish upright holding it light as possible. I once helped a bass fisherman release a big musky and it took half an hour. Amazingly that fish was caught again later that season by another angler. So, it was worth taking all that time to get it to swim back.

    Great video. Thanks for educating people on proper release. If you don’t have a knipex in the boat, you shouldn’t be fishing. Keep up the great work.

    Why that belly up?

    • @TodaysAngler
      @TodaysAngler  6 років тому

      Was only belly up for a moment once we put back in the water. It was a deeply hooksed fish which took longer than average to unhook. That is very normal. Fish released perfect.
