@@CarExpertAus Hi, I have recently acquired a new 2021 Mazda 2 pure. Can they be easily stolen? As I have heard that there are electronic devices out there that can unlock a new car such as a Mazda 2 and once the door is open they would be easy to drive away as you don't need a key to start new cars these days. Is there anything else i can do to secure it a bit more? Thanks in advance. Regards Scott
We had one of these for about 8 months before we sold it. The auto was all over the place and it slipped when putting into drive when cold quite dramatically. Mazda were a pain to deal with as well. It only had 30k on the clock so shouldn't have had all the issues it did. It was not the most reliable car we've had. The rear view mirrors are no good if you have the seat the whole way back as it creates a massive blind spot (wouldn't be an issue for someone not 6ft). I agree with the recommendation to get a Kia Cerato over this. The value preposition doesn't add up anymore.
Love the honesty in the review Paul. $22k is just insane for a car that size in my opinion. And that center console has more wobble than a panna cotta on Masterchef!

I've got a Mazda 2 90bhp from 2018 as my second car now, with the red interior, couldn't be happier. I bought that car second hand for about 12000 € though... this new generation is waaaayyy overpriced in my opinion. In an case great video!
My brother just got his new Mazda 2. Here in the Philippine there's only one variant, 1.5L Skyactive G for both sedan and hatch. Worth noting though that he got the polymetal grey color that was previously only available to mazda 3's here. Now it's available exclusively to hatchback 2's, and not on sedans. First 4 units of that color that landed here locally last March, my brother got one of 'em. If not for the Covid lockdown he should have gotten it immediately few days after it landed. Instead he got it on May 30. Two months was worth the wait it seems. He's enjoying it and satisfied with his choice.
Well done testing the base model, my guess the base model will be the biggest seller with the GT only accounting for a few % Also really like that you stated the car was overpriced , Mazda won't love you for that. I thought independent motoring journalist were long gone. But recommending a bigger car for the money doesn't make sense to me, we shop on size and function, so when looking at a small car we want a small car. Well built, reliable small cars with upto date tech and safety are getting as hard to find as independent journalist.
Hmmm....this is progress eh? I think I will hang on to my 2002 Mazda 2 until it dies. OK the gearing is short (not really a problem - it's pretty smooth even at 3k on the tacho at 100 km/h although it's no fuel sipper); and there's lack of safety tech, which is means I have to keep my wits about me driving it around. The boot space is the clincher - it's a van! Tumble fold, rear seats with recline and fore/aft adjustment, max headroom, and The Best parcel shelf design. Good review as always mate. Would love to see this compared with swift sport 2020 with the new safety tech and also the new Yaris. Keep up the great work Paul
We are taking delivery of an 855km 2021 demonstrator gsx (mid spec here in NZ) on the weekend. For us this car ticked all the boxes. We wanted something economical and it had to run on standard unleaded fuel- we travel 80km a day just for work. The only other options were an MG3 and a Suzuki Swift- the Mazda made these 2 look and feel cheap especially on the inside. The 5 year unlimited km warranty and free servicing for 100,000km sealed the deal.
Great review Paul, Mazda have pulled the wrong lever by going more 'upmarket' in prices. As a long term Mazda owner, I've bought my last Mazda at these new prices I'm afraid.
I have a 2004 Mazda 6 hatchback and its getting old and starting to have costly issues. Just looking at my price range and wanting a small car this seems like such a step down, In my old 04 Mazda 6 I have most of these features, a sunroof, 16" alloy wheels, 6 speaker bose system with a sub in the boot and a much cleaner and better control/climate cluster. Only lacking feature is no fancy audio interface system, as it's an 04 model it has CD, Radio and Cassette Tapes, not even an AUX yet. Still I got it 2nd hand for 4k. Now I'm looking at a 20 odd thousand dollar car half the size and half the features. Sad but I could never afford a new Mazda 6 either.
Thanks for the reviews - glad you don't hold back! I am currently looking for a small new car under 30k. I did like both the hyundai venue elite (loved that it was so small yet high in the seat, and funky on the outside, but disappointed that there is a lack of finished interior in the top spec) and the mazda 2 GT (loved the inside, felt really luxurious and great safety but tech is disappointing). Which would you go with out of the two? Any other recommendations?
The base model ( manual gear ) Mazda 2 is 23.000 USD in Sweden -__- but it's one of very few "small cars" that aren't hybrid or a 1 Liter turbo. Toyota, Honda, Suzuki etc. are hybrid only
They said maybe the new Mazda 2 will be something between the mazda cx3 and 2 like some crossover. There is no cx3 anymore. In 2019. You could get new Mazda 2 with almost full equipment for 15€ only thing that it didn't have is city brake assistance. And there was no brand with all that equipment for that money in 2019, not to mention for this year in which all brands have risen in price by 20-30%
Thanks Brett! If you have your heart set on it, it could be worth checking out a second hand one. It hasn’t changed a great deal in a while and it’ll save you money!
CarExpert my current car is my first and only car I've had since 2005... it was 2nd hand when I brought it... I've had the car 15 years and it's a 1997 model Ford Festiva lol... so my next car will be a brand new one.

The fuel regulator died plus the motor mounts needed replacing. so I went with a Ford Focus Trend... $28,500 later... fml!!!.....I'm loving the tech in my new car lol.. I only got a Ford Focus as my car was being repaired at a Ford Dealership and got the car through that dealership (or I would've had to pay for the repairs already done on my Festiva), so they didn't charge me for the repairs... I really wanted a smaller car (such as a Kia or such). My car is considered small, but Kia are smaller lol... the fuel economy on my Focus is amazing.... only filled up my tank over a week ago, as it's just reach half a tank now with about 300 kms already done... I think I'll still get another 200kms easily with what's still in the tank... whereas my Festiva only got about 270kms on a full tank.
Mid twenties as an automatic with an alarm.Fine if it has to be a Mazda on a Budget and New but I would get either a used 2 model before the update took place or a BL/BM Mazda 3 if not needed to meet the new requirement.
In my country, Indonesia, with that money you can get a Wuling Cortez turbo A/T mid spec with better quality, more capacity, (almost) same feature, and a sunroof.

I have mixed feelings about Mazdas. They look good, but for me they are yet a bit boring because they use that unified kodo design for quite long time across whole lineup. Anyway, I see this Mazda as decent city distance shortener, and with this purpose in mind I wouldn't bother with any imperfections, except for the ridiculous price. Here in my country the base trim starts at more than 15k EUR, 3k more than new gen Toyota Yaris - which I would prefer (for various reasons) despite its design is - let's say - more distinct than stylish. @@CarExpertAus exactly. and sadly, here in the EU, Jimny is to be axed by the end of 2020 because that emissions thing. maybe it will continue as a van (bureaucracy hack?) or it will return with improved engine, possibly mild-hybrid, later on - which would be quite ok since Suzuki already has this tech in its cars.
So the basically old car just got a price increased because they said they want to be pricier so people think whoever bought it was not economically conscious?? I guess loyal customers didn’t care.
Good day CarExpert , can you guys please help me with car advice I'm looking to buy a nice first car, hatchback preferably and I want to choose between the 2016 Kia Rio Tec and a 2016 VW Polo 1.2 TSI. Which should I choose and why Would love the feedback.
Tough call, @Reagan! Depending on which country you're in, the Volkswagen is likely to be out of warranty by now, whereas the Kia will have another 4 years left on it. If that's the case, I'd head towards the Kia for peace of mind. But of the two, the Polo will drive better than the Kia given the differences in engines.
I owned the pre-facelift version of the Mazda 2. Honestly I love the car, but I haven't seen enough justification to go for the new one. ( other than styling, which I absolutely love btw ) If Mazda really wanted to improve the 2 they really should just drop their new infotainment in there. The MZD Connect, while works perfectly fine, looks too ancient for 2020, especially considering the price jump. Also, NVH. It's okay but again, considering the price & where Mazda is heading, Mazda needs to step up the build quality.
@@CarExpertAus We'll find out Paul. ps.I very much enjoy your "CarExpert' Videos & it heartens me to see you again. I won't say 'good luck' because that'll arrive.
Mazda is slowly losing the plot, and it shows in its sales figures (pre-covid). For a bit extra you might as well buy a new corolla, similar features, better tech, newer chassis and design, plus it’s bigger. Good honest review Paul (and team) looking forward to more.
13,470 USD, Wow that is so cheap, that would be the cheapest car in the US. The Cheapest car is the USA is tgeChevy Spark LS $14,395, but I don't think it's on sale for 2021, so now the Mitsubishi Mirage at 14,900 which is far inferior to the base Mazda 2 for sure....
At this price point and class the Suzuki Swift GLX Turbo is a much better choice. You get all the same features PLUS a punchier 3cyl 1.0T, auto LED head lights, adaptive cruise, and arguably better looks. Review one of those Paul!
How does the flexing of the center console determine the built quality of a car??? I just fund that so stupid..only reviewer do that crap never a engineer or someone knowledgeable. The problem with a deep trunk is that it's hard to take luggage out .. not to lift to put in.
I would rather wait few more days n buy toyota yaris hybrid. Well i dont need but if i would have to. Paul, please review yaris hybrid. It looks awesome in toyota website.
But if one is looking for a brand new sedan, on a tight budget then there is only the Honda City that might be slightly cheaper than the Mazda 2, right?
I recalled way back in the days a dealer sold me what was then a Maxx for a very respectable 21000 on the road before an alarm was added on or came close to,the price difference had I been made to pay full price versus say a Maxx Sport series 2 was about four grand(This was way back in the days of the boxy shape van style 2's and the first ever versions of the 3 when they were being updated so 2006). the thing is today not all that long ago I went to look at the latest 2 Pure Automatic with an alarm and they wanted $25000 for it.I was close to doing a deal and was even swayed by a financing deal not long after my old car was written off by a truck just after the accident rental had to be returned to the rental car company.after getting details of my figures from the insurance company and all other parties I opted for a 2008 Mazda 3 Maxx Sport for $7750 so roughly just over 30% the price of the new age light car.
I have the 2009 (2008?) Mazda 2 Hatch Genki. I was looking at getting this model in a sedan but the price is putting me off now. I don't know what to do 🤔😔
I'm thinking of getting this car, a sedan though. If you say it's not worth the price (It's about AUD 26K for an auto), can you please suggest alternatives for about that much price?
seek out a previous generation mazda 3 in either a hatch or sedan not too old, automatic and add on an alarm, also check out the miles.I would look at 2015 or 2016's at the present time.
I actually wonder where did the neg vote come from... 22k for a Mazda2? no thanks, I will pick a vw polo, kia cerato or skoda octavia any day of the week
@@morishogo144 Ok, I respect your point of view. But I just cant find myself enjoyed driving it as much as I was in the polo. Dont get me wrong, not a VW fun, but I do like the way how they tune polo suspension and chasis.
In the US it's sold as a Toyota Yaris. Either way I see yours doesn't come with a center armrest either. A $20,000 car without an armrest. No thank you!
Im 185 cm 100kg, body and head room is quiet enough for me. The premise is when no one is sitting behind you and your legs are not able fully extended. It is a nice car for people alone or young couple.
Was considering this one until I test-drove one. Chock-full of features but they're all fluff that I don't want or need and.. what the fuck is that price doing on there? Jesus, that's a hard no, thanks.
not for that kind of money.I just want ABS and Cruise Control and if applicable a CD Player on my cars and automatic, alarm can be added on later.I had a look out of interest at a 2 Pure in a Hatch G15 SPEC and they wanted silly money for it.This was just after my previous car was written off by a truck and I had to hand the accident loan replacement vehicle back to the rental car place.I opted with the insurance pay out money not to call up the leasing company to get a 2 and instead went with a BK 3 SERIES 2 2008 Maxx Sport Hatch.just over 30 something percent the cost and 2.0l performance 108kw/182nm torque to get me out of trouble.yes it's older but I wouldn't go with a little city car again after what happened.

At least you can turn left in this Mazda! Only because it doesnt have a centre arm-rest.
Ha ha, good point. I suspect if it did, I'd be in trouble!
Mazda tries the inverse marketing scheme. Sell an very old car slightly 'tarted up' for a huge price increase .
Does it succeed?
@@CarExpertAus We'll find out Paul. ps.I very much enjoy your "CarExpert' Videos & it heartens me to see you again. I won't say 'good luck' because that'll arrive.
Mazda is slowly losing the plot, and it shows in its sales figures (pre-covid). For a bit extra you might as well buy a new corolla, similar features, better tech, newer chassis and design, plus it’s bigger. Good honest review Paul (and team) looking forward to more.
Thanks, James. Appreciate it!
Can you make a review of the Nissan Note
This or honda jazz rs? Any thoughts please.
Well, now in 2022, Toyota Yaris is more expensive and wait ages to get, wait a year?????
Christ. I got my 2016 Mazda3 Neo brand new for $18,000.
$20k for this is just laughable.
They've certainly jumped in price!
PLEASE, DO NOT take the Lord's name in vain. PLEASE.
Oh god I would never do that!
The base Mazda 2 in my country has rear disc brakes.
At this price point and class the Suzuki Swift GLX Turbo is a much better choice. You get all the same features PLUS a punchier 3cyl 1.0T, auto LED head lights, adaptive cruise, and arguably better looks. Review one of those Paul!
We will try and get our hands on one :-D
haha the suzuki is ugly
Freaking AUD36,500.00 here in Malaysia.
😲 That's insane!!
mtay65 agreed.........finally went for new Toyota Yaris
@@cheahkaimun1 The interior and electronics are great:)
in TURKEY, 40.000 USD ! in Turkey minumum wage 4200 USD for a year ! thanks to RECEP TAYYIP ERDOGAN !
What car would you recommend as a first car? Under 25k
MG3 I would say, cheap, if broken, throw away... Or Suzuki Baleno, but look and feel cheap, I tried. 😂😂😂
How does the flexing of the center console determine the built quality of a car??? I just fund that so stupid..only reviewer do that crap never a engineer or someone knowledgeable.
The problem with a deep trunk is that it's hard to take luggage out .. not to lift to put in.
exactly it's a safety thing, doesnt really measure the quality of the car.
The new Toyota yaris makes this look old
Very true! Never thought I'd be saying that about a Toyota Yaris either!
i honestly prefer the TNGA yaris over this one albeit i'm a mazda fan.
and i like the preFL mazda2 better...
I would rather wait few more days n buy toyota yaris hybrid. Well i dont need but if i would have to. Paul, please review yaris hybrid. It looks awesome in toyota website.
We don't have the Yaris hybrid in Australia. Not yet anyway!
But if one is looking for a brand new sedan, on a tight budget then there is only the Honda City that might be slightly cheaper than the Mazda 2, right?
Great car
The 2 has always been Mazda's 'cheap seats'. Overpriced and over here. Thank you for your honest review.
What kind of car wow is this? ahaha nice video
love the 2007 refresh, but this 2014 refresh I'm not liking the style.
In my view the sedan looks better than the hatch.
I have the 2009 (2008?) Mazda 2 Hatch Genki. I was looking at getting this model in a sedan but the price is putting me off now. I don't know what to do 🤔😔
Get a used 2014-2015. Pretty much the same
Has the Mazda 2 2021 improved at all? It is $24k drive away auto.
Love the car but a little expensive for a car in this segment lol
Excellent review as always!
Thanks for watching!
I'd be interested in your choice between this car or a Fiat 500 Manual? Thanks.
I wouldn't buy a Fiat 500. We used to own one and it was painful to drive!
@@CarExpertAus Thanks, we'll stick with the i30 as our std company issue.
Rather buy a bike than a shitty Fiat
Seems like you not liking this car is cause Mazda gave you the cheap one Paul when the other reviewers got the flasher one!
Maybe a Mazda dealer? 😅
I have both Mazda 2 2019 and polo 2019. And I can say Mazda is way better and it was way cheaper with more stuff in it
@@morishogo144 Ok, I respect your point of view. But I just cant find myself enjoyed driving it as much as I was in the polo. Dont get me wrong, not a VW fun, but I do like the way how they tune polo suspension and chasis.
Can you plz do the kluger or fortuner
We will try and get our hands on them :-)
How is this considered a bad value the toyota aygo is more expensive
In the US it's sold as a Toyota Yaris. Either way I see yours doesn't come with a center armrest either. A $20,000 car without an armrest. No thank you!
Thanks! And agree - it's crazy not to have one there.
Is this a good car for tall people that are 1m90 ?
Im 185 cm 100kg, body and head room is quiet enough for me. The premise is when no one is sitting behind you and your legs are not able fully extended. It is a nice car for people alone or young couple.
29k for the Evolve Model in 2022. Bloody expensive for a basic little car with no Turbo.
I want change this car I m not happy with mazda 2
I thought this is 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G engine.
The basic things not in mazda2 such as spedo meter , biotin navigation, climate control
This car is a tiny little bit dated.
Just a bit!
CarExpert I left another comment as well
in TURKEY, 40.000 USD ! in Turkey minumum wage 4200 USD for a year ! thanks to RECEP TAYYIP ERDOGAN !
18 000 euro. By
Holy cow! That's crazy expensive!
GL
Holy sh1t the cheapest Automatic model starts at 24k F@CKING EUROS... YOU CANT BE SERIOUS MAZDA!
Mazda grilles are vlike cheese graters .
"Hardness tester"... How stupid is that?!
Your comment measures 98 on the hardness scale.
@@CarExpertAus Ha ha ha, funny! All you "motorjournalists" are obsessed with the softness of the interior... you take a giant step over all others with your stupid device...
Thank you 😊
@@CarExpertAus You're welcome...
Absolutely atrocious car.. would not even buy it with a 50% discount, let alone 30%
What about a 60% discount? 😅
A crappy bit of shitty plastic grill and chrome adds a premium? 😂😂😂
The Japanese car is durable and has a longer life. Why don't you talk about the advantages of the car
