I love that line: "When it comes to the acts of violence in my plays my imagination isn't that fucking sick, I mean, I just read the newspapers". It was worth "watching" until the very end, thanks for uploading :)
What an incredible document for fans of Sarah's work. Is there any possibility of restoring the audio at all? Or perhaps is there a transcript from someone who was there? Dan is quite hard to hear at times. I was most curious to hear the names of the writers who Sarah thought was brilliant. I think I've figured out two of them, was it David Grieg and David Harrower, Kris Haddow? Its around 16:40. Dan names them there, and later Sarah says they are her favourite three writers.
Hi Ben; you're almost spot on - Chris Hannan was the third. I've managed to unearth a transcript of the conversation for you: www.royalholloway.ac.uk/dramaandtheatre/documents/pdf/skane1998.pdf I hope that helps, and I'm planning to clean up the audio very soon - will keep you posted.
I love her comments on critics, so true. Being an artist or writer of some kind should be pre-requisite, otherwise you get the thwarted-artist critic showing off their "I could've been just as good if I tried" poetic skills used in gleefully destroying everything they can. They should be mocked out of the public square, but now I feel snarky critics appear to be the center of the culture.
It's so sad to know that even though she spoke of her attacks from the media with some good humour and maturity, she must have been dying on the inside. 😭😭😭
