It all depends on your definition of "Casual", since there are 1.5 billion variations, the answer will be both yes and no. IMO, a casual is someone who schedules their game time around what's going on IRL. Versus someone who is hardcore who schedules RL around their game time. Example: Hardcore: I can't meet you guys for dinner tonight because I'm raiding. Casual: I can't raid with you guys tonight because I'm meeting some friends for dinner. Has nothing to do with skill level or hours played. Just dedication to the game. Classic is definitely casual friendly as you can easily take months at your own leisure to level and it shouldn't be difficult to find a guild that needs bench players who can log in to raid when they are missing people, meaning the casual can join the raid, show up when they have time, and join the raid if the guild is short that night.
I agree with you almost 100%! The variables are sooo many and people have different perspectives on the game, so a comparison is almost pointless! That being said, as I mentioned in my comment too, nobody rushed me to do ANYTHING in Bfa and I was never left behind. Wasnt the optimum player at any BFA's life time, but wasnt far behind! And the point of a big guild, communities for lvling, rbgs etc etc and the plethora of content serves exactly the same purpose you mention with your example of the gaming experience a "Casual player" has! Think about it....Blizzard made it so every1 get upgrade gear and Azerite from all contents of the game! Have a nice day :)
Casual = Playing for fun when you can. Hardcore = The game is your job and there are people as committed to the game as you are that are depending on you to make the goals actually happen.
Yep i agree. to me a hardcore has always been like a pro gamer that doesn't necessaraly get paid to play as well as they can.. honing their skills and spending money on all the hardware that gives them marginal improvements and spending a lot of time maximizing their performance
RageDaug I’m a casual player. I play eight hours a day non-stop but if someone needs me or I have plans I’m not dedicated enough to the game to blow them off.
I really like that classic has a slower pace compared to retail, because it makes you appreciate the content more than when you blow through it. A continuous frostbolt rotation bores me to death though. Wotlk had this at it's best balance imo.
While lvling, the frostbold rotation isn't that boring to be honest. You still have to frostnova, blink and fight for yourself. Did you ever play a hunter in classic? You're literally just standing around doing auto-shots, while your pet does tank the mobs. It's only interesting if you fight a few mobs at the same time. Even then, you dont feel like you're doing much, compared to a mage.
@@fritzschnitzmueller3768true but it raids you hardly used frost nova unless you provide your tank with some space. Which if both the healers and the tank in question is doing their job right , you won't have to do even that honestly. Warlocks have it worse with shadow bolt. And a banish every now and then . still love classic though. The social experience compaired to retail is night and day.
@@veng3r663 usually guys that have never done endgame content in wow, or have barely played wow at all and only play a couple of hours a day on average. Why do you think a casual doesn't like world pvp?
The feeling of progressing on a character is greater in classic and up to pre ICC WotLK. When you clear the raid you are done for the week. My best memories are from TBC and WotLK finding a group in Shattrath or Dalaran and the traveling to the dungeon and then completing a normal/heroic dungeon. Having heroic dungeons isn't an issue. But having different raid difficulties which are not worth doing since you get better gear from mythic dungeons, which you can run as many times you want is. Endless progression is what makes me feel I'm playing in an unoptimal way when I'm not playing on my main. Compare that to classic where you can "finish" gearing outside of raiding.
“We were all 9 years old and didn’t know what taxes were” , man as a finance student this hits home. Just finished my Taxation II midterm and long for the days I didn’t know what credit and deduction were, or that capital gains are taxed at 50%, or that you can car terminal losses forward to reduce taxes the next year
Playing solo questing as a rogue is an exercise of patience and puzzle game. Sap this guy, so that you pull only that guy, do these mobs in this order so that you don't overpull, burst cooldowns on this elite, etc. Every quest has its way to be soloed, unless it's just elites that slap you way too hard, or you are too underleveled to even land a hit.
Nice 2 see i am not the only awkward person that would rather spent 20 minutes extra in planning to solo non solo content instead of asking around for help
I am nowadays what you can call a "casual". I'm not even level 60 yet, but everytime i log on i have tons of fun on my dwarf priest. But i have not always been a casual, from vanilla until early cata i was too, a no life neckbeard like Asmongold (I wasn't as bald though).
Hell, I'm only 53. Been taking the game at my pace; with college and everything, it's nice to come back to classic and pick up where I left off. My devilsaur gauntlets I just equipped will still be good gear for a while. And no AP grind (yay!)
I always wanted to play wow but when i tried it on retail server i was Just like wtf is even goin on And soon left. Now with classic wow i learned everything pretty quickly And im enjoying my leveling :) so for me without a question classic is more casual.
Something I really appreciate about classic is once you got an item for pre raid bis or bis, you got it. Bar fucking none. If Dal'Rend's Tribal Guardian drops from Rend Blackhand, you know you need it and there's only the rng of you getting it vs the other fury warrior/combat rogue vs the huntard. Now though, you'd need Dal'Rend's mythic Titanforged Corrupted Tribal Guardian of the Quickblade with a very specific Corruption enchant. Way too much RNG in retail. Same with professions as well - you got the mats for Devilsaur Gauntlets and you craft it or pay someone to do so, boom you're done pre raid bis in classic for gloves slot. In retail you'd need Devilsaur Gauntlets of the Feverflare that you then need to get to 2/4 stages upgraded. TL:DR, retail's system decreases the meaning of getting gear in general - in retail it's just increasing numbers on your gear so you can increase numbers on your damage. In classic gear has far more meaning imho. And that's just the gear issue, let alone class identity and the journey to max level being a slog rather than an experience in of itself.
Honestly EQ was a great game. You only lost your gear if you didnt go get it back. Then later on they made it so you could just summon your body with items to you.
Classic has no real treadmill, people are free to set their own pace. That's way more casual than retail. Retail is almost 100% treadmill, but i have come to realise that it's the reason i go back. I got very bored with classic and never hit cap, why bother? so i can do the raids once and tune out?
Exact same experience at like 58, I just realized the best part was over and everything else would be stuff I've already experienced and it felt like a waste of time, same for retail to be honest
i think the casual vs hardcore argument has to do more with a combination between how seriously you take a game and how much you play. You can play a game for 20 hours a week and still be playing it casually, or you can play for maybe an hour or two a day but still have it be a hardcore experience (speedrunning for example).
I always defined casual as someone who just logs on to socialize, runs a quest or two, and logs out. Someone who is afraid to group, will not run raids, etc.
@Cegesh Well you're wrong because no one definition will ever fit all, in WoW or across the gaming communities. Anyone who puts 4-8+ hours a day into any game isn't playing casually, even if they're getting nowhere.
I can not believe how on point they both are about the urgency. The time gating makes it 100x worse. So you have to quickly go and do a thing, but then once you finally decide to do it you immediately get dis-incentivized by having to wait another day or another week for it to give you the same rewards. They're conditioning a religious sort of "Do this for this long and then stop for this long" pattern that ultimately makes me decide to detach myself from the game. I know I don't want to play the game the way it tells me to play it, so obviously I shouldn't be getting invested in it beyond what little I can find to have some immediate fun (which let me tell you, isn't much).
I’m a casual and I love it. Usually go in and complete a few quests, try and set myself up for the next one I want to do. Then log off. Unfortunately I only have an about an hour to play if I want to get at least 6 hours of sleep haha.
I agree on rotations, I was put straight by my mythic raiding friend. He told me I have been doing my frost mage rotation wrong the entire expansion xD
I’d say casual also depends on time frames. When I’m working I’m doing 12 hour days on a ship, so I’ve got 2-3 hours of time that’s not dedicated to sleeping or getting ready for work/showering etc. if I spend one of those hours a day on video games, that’s quite a lot. Course, when I’m home it’s a lot more than just the 1 hour
@Mercb3ast the mechanics were far more detailed than WoW was at it's launch. There was a great reason people were calling it Everquest for retards when it came out. Now compare Everquest to something like BFA and your 100% correct. I think the reason the world was so immersive was it's difficulty, harsh penalties and your dependence on other players. You needed other people to do anything in the game. While necros and bards could solo for exp they couldn't kill level appropriate quest mobs or craft all their spells/gear.
@Mercb3ast 100% truth, it's why game like Bloodborne/DS aren't just hard but really hard in the beginning because they are weeding out those "this game sucks" players. EQ is my favorite game of all time so I just laugh when he bashes it because he wasn't able to handle it.
I recently started playing Classic to blow off steam and just have some laid-back fun and I really love it. I pretty much only PvP in retail so it goes without saying I get burned out pretty quick and like to take a break without quitting the game, and Classic has been wonderful for that. It's nice to go play a version of the game where you just do what your class/spec does, where things make sense, and you don't have to min/max so much just to participate. I think the reason I get so burned out sometimes is exactly what Asmon said: "there's like 8 fucking counters for everything." Playing SS, 2's or even 3's feels like 4D Chess because the most popular classes can literally do everything. If you aren't playing meta and seriously geared, you can't even hurt most people. Healers can stunlock, DPS can heal absurdly well, everyone's got like 4-8 DR/Evasion/"Oh shit" buttons, and the community is dominated by people who reroll every time patch notes drop which makes it unbearably hard to enjoy the game because in this system you can't achieve much unless you play what's meta or just happen to be a top 10% gigachad. Meanwhile in Classic you can play what you enjoy without having to sacrifice progress as long as you know what you're doing. Of course there are still counters, but not every single player will have or be one, unlike retail where everyone has 3-5 different counters for everything. The game is just absurdly over-inflated with homogenization to the point of bursting. I still like enjoy retail but I definitely get why a lot of people don't. Hard for your character to feel special when everyone's character is special and everyone gets participation trophies because Blizzard doesn't want anyone feeling left out for fear of losses. In Classic, you get out what you put in. If you don't put in the work, you don't get a trophy for just showing up. Things feel weighted and meaningful, and the slow pace of course helps a lot. I have max level characters who took less time to level cap and gear than it took me to get to 20 in Classic, and it was all the more fun for the journey. TL;DR I like both but homogenization, instant gratification and easy-mode raiding and dungeons has destroyed what made WoW so much fun and so social, and is why there will always be a place for Classic.
6:00 - lmfao! Death and loss of experience was the penalty for death. Your death had consequences that had actual weight to your progress and enjoyment. It was something you learned to actively avoid. You planned, grouped, etc to prevent said death. It lead to a much better experience as actions you took had meaning.
Massive bullshit because your deaths were at most often unavoidable or due to the overly complex nature of the game. It lead to nothing but rinse and repeat with no real reward
@@RaizanMedia "Massive bullshit because your deaths were at most often unavoidable" -RaizanMedia Nope, your statement is nothing but opinion. The fact is all your deaths were avoidable in Everquest. You just had to be paying attention. "or due to the overly complex nature of the game." -RaizanMedia Everquest was not overly complex. It just had forced dependencies. That is not a bad thing in an MMO. Even WoW, to a very limited extent unfortunately, has some sort of forced dependencies. "It lead to nothing but rinse and repeat with no real reward" -RaizanMedia In your opinion. In mine it had nothing but reward. You simply had to be paying attention and plan properly to receive said rewards.
Mad season is the shit, but yeah it turned me off at first. But then you think of how loud and awful people are in real life, and his voice actually calms you down eventually lol
I got wow on cataclysm, but I never felt being part or in the game. Just pressing button, and not even knowing what these "dungeons" and "raids" were. I had one friend there, but thanks for buttons we never got to play together.
Depends on the dailies if its casual or not for me. If you can knock it out in an hour or less. Or if its basically solo-able. Then yeah, its a hand out then. Besides dailies are heavily associated with the whole mobile game kind of thing. Where if you log in, you get a bonus. Again, at least for me.
there is but a single reason why any other expansion from cata and lower is more casual friendly than anything after it. Classes became too complicated to play compared to before. Compare what a hunter has to do in classic to dps. Shoot aimed shot. refresh serpent sting. done. Now what does a hunter have to do in retail? 4-6 rotational abilities + Frenzy+ 4 cds to keep track of + 7 mechanics of the boss etc etc.
This video sums up about what i feel about retail. And if i missed 1 day I would freak out because Ive missed 1 whole day of time. And I quit the game.
i mean..if you know what you want, then yes..you can be a casual and ask the right people to help you with stuff and get a lot done, just know your class and be nice and people will remember you and invite you to groups
Played Wow since vanilla and played Eq for around 4 years. Eq was superb yes it was graphically dated. But the guild community’s were unreal... they had to be, you couldn’t do anything without either a decent guild or a lot of friends playing. Both are great games.
I think casual play is that to not feel obligated to do things like in example of wow(daily quests and stuff like that ) in order to get some kind of satisfaction from it.
I wish i could watch this stuff live but am not always available during the livestream. Thanks to you amd other similar channels i'm able to stay current. Thank you for what you do, whoever you are! You deserve credit and respect!!
I'm a casual wow player. Picked it up when the quarantine started. I play ~2-5 hours and that seems casual. Anything less would give me no progress or fun out of it. But I'm not working now. Before the quarantine I could probably play 4 hours a week, which is why I didn't get it
Classic is for sure casual friendly. I never made it passed lvl 40 until wotlk. I had too much fun doing everything else to level. I was also a solo player. I'd spend months in bgs once I reached lvl x8-x9
I remember playing golden eye for n64, I could never find the thing i had to take a pictutre of im still stuck on that lvl 20 years later, Scientist part was easy that picture is impossible.
I don't know if I can answer the question, "is classic WoW casual friendly" because, I played in 2005 and leveled to 60 countless times on multiple private servers, so I know the game like the back of my hand. If I had never played vanilla/TBC/Wrath before, I would probably struggle on a lot of things, but seeing as it's 2019, I can essentially find any info I need with a quick Google search, so... I would have to say, yes, classic WoW is very much casual friendly.
My dad has made atleast 100 rogues and hunters over and over in the starting zone. The highest level character ive seen him have is 30, but he will delete and start over and make a new one almost every week or 2. Super casual
2:41 - Casual gaming - a game i can relax with and escape reality; not to be sent into another world to do chores repeatable quests like with borderlands by example. before WoW i played Dark Ages of Camelot and before that Runescape.
Leveling in Classic is NOT harder if you team up. Its when you try to solo yellow quests that the challenges arise. But that can be more fun! Barely surviving a fight and killing the mob is a thrill, but sometimes just escaping is a rush. When the cost of failure is time and relatively small repair bills, why not challenge yourself while leveling. It will sharpen your skills for raiding and PvP.
Everquest was awesome. You know nothing Asmongold. I still remember lvling up my Iksar Shadowknight Rakarsis. DOUBLE EXP PENALTY! ULTRA GRIND! When he died and I lost all my gear I went into a deep depression as If a close family member had died. I never got that experience with any other game lol. I never became attached to any ingame character as much as my precious Rakarsis. Thing is 99% of the time besides that one death Everquest was awesome because of the attachment you grew with your character and seeing them grow along with your friends.
i remember playing the witcher III right after playing dark souls cuz I had decided to download both games, and noticed something was wrong when i killed a cockatrice 15 levels above me and i forgot i was playing witcher and not dark souls: I was using the potions and rolling around and make rotations with the crossbow and at the end I actually won easily only with a little patience PS: WOW is a D&D session where the DM tells you're passed out and trying to rest or being randomly saved just so you can continue the campaign and have fun
Imagine if instead of just facerolling heroic dungeons and world quests at the beginning of BFA to get some gear, you actually had pre best in slot raid gear that was meaningful to obtain ;D
Im not going to argue that classic is more complex than retail, but I think people like mad season are under-appreciating the amount of effort it takes to prepare for AQ and Naxx. Look at the anount of mats it takes to get your NR set for Huhu in AQ and the mats required to make your tier 3 set. This requires guilds pooling resources, leveling multiple alts to level 35 for tradeskill cooddowns, flasks, full raid consumes every week, etc...if you dont want to call it complex im fine with that, but I garuntee mamy, many guilds will dissolve in AQ and Naxx because they didnt take the necessary steps to prepare for the intense amount of gold and time it takes to have all of the necessary materials to complete these raids with consistency.
I don't think "casual" status is necessarily time dependent. When I was unemployed I played for entire days but would still consider myself a casual gamer for the most part. Having time to play a game doesn't make you more hardcore. Also classic is definitely more casual friendly imo because, like MadSeason points out, there's way less pressure to play it. The game isn't nagging you all the time to do dailies and shit, classic just lets you go at your own pace.
There are some thing that retail just does better. For example character creations , animation, and design definitely way better, and the fact that classes arnt one button wonders in raids is a plus to. But the journey of leveling, is not there, the world feels very small and empty compared to classic , and socializing outside of a guild is honestly at a low. On my first day in classic , i had WAaay more social interaction and adventure with random people , than I ever has in retail in about 4 years. It was populated and felt alive. And was rather challenging . I know mythics and some heroic dungeons and raids are challenging, but the world outside of it should be challenging too, especially since you won't be queing right out the gate anyway. I also have to agree that gearing in classic and retail have entirely different feels as well. Retail hands out gear like hotcakes while classic makes you earn via months of grinding or crafting . or both. You really work for it and it feels more satisfying to get it....or lose it to a hunter lol. Retail does raids really well and dungeons too however . with mechanics and such. Its more complex than shoot anything that attacks you. I do feel they do that better than classic honestly. The only downside is that once you are in dungeon or raid. No one bothers to talk to you..or even make a plan of some kind. Everyone has to much of. A stick up their ass to give you the time of day. A simple hi would be nice. Retail also has more of A story line then classic. Which to me can be a good and a bad thing . good because every one loves a story, and its. Good chance to follow lore more easily . the cinematics and cut scene are absolute eye candy. We feel do involved with The characters now. The bad news is, we feel involved with the characters now. It feels odd and somewhat patronizing to interact with the main cast as champions. Since technically EVERYONE is a champion, and if everyone is the champion..then no one is. In my opinion it was better that we were the unsung heroes. The ones in the background that saved the day without recognition, forging out own tale of adventures and glory, taking on this challenge not because someone expects that from us, but because we WANT to . To be in the center if it all. When ever one else is I'm the center just feeels....disengenious. Honestly that's part of the reason I sort of disliked artifact weapons in legion. I mean we are given an all powerful weapon and everyone knows about...but so does everyone else. That's not a legendary weapon.. Its a doller store item that was on sale for buy one get two free. It would have been nice to create your own weapon. Like the name and the flavor text. Hell the stats and abilites Can even be the same.
HeyItsPanos Asmon is literally a casual. Everything gets given to him on a platter by his community. A “casual” probably puts in more effort to achieve stuff then asmon who rushes to endgame, hosts raids and says “can I have that” on every drop
@@pazu2934 Asmon is not a casual. he is LITERALLY working. Him playing, is him working. That's not casual.. It's like comparing me, who i draw paintings for fun, with a guy who does paintings worth of thousand of euros for a living. Even if i spend 15 days for 1 painting, and the other guy spends 7 days for his, i am still the casual one. The difference is that he does it more efficiently. Same thing with asmon. he does this for a living, and has found a way to go around the hardcore grind and the Roll-rng for loot. So he is doing it more efficient...Do it urself also if u can. But u can't.. cus u're not as popular as asmon. Same idea why i can't get my paintings to sell for thousands of euros...
@@akhsdenlew1861 My understanding of what you’re saying is ‘working is when you have the end product handed to you’. I’m a sound engineer I mix and master music and a career and produce just for fun 🤷🏽♂️there are no short cuts in any of that. There are plugins but there’s always a right way of doing it🤷🏽♂️
@@pazu2934 Asmon is playing both for fun and work as well. that's literally the opposite of casual. A casual barely invests a few hours per weeks in the game. While for asmon, the game is basically.. 50% of his life if not most. He couldn't be more opposite from the meaning "casual". His investment in the game is way more than 99% of the people commenting here.. including me and you.
There’s a balance Druid in my guild consistently pulling 15k dps with a 460+ iLvl...I wish he’d go to classic because he has no clue how to use his rotation
Those fire breathing bugs are cake, anyone could stand in the poison, fight man eater Mildred, and getting stung by giant mosquitos they’d still do better in dark souls xD
Oh yeah its tiring I done heroic raiding from DS onwards quitting on mythic Uldir going through all legion doing mythic raiding and I'm just tired from it
I don’t feel rewarded in current wow when it comes to gear. I remember in legion , I was in the top mythic guild in server competing with 3-4 others horde and alliance. I was one of the best geared warrior and when walking around , you knew I was beast. But now you got people just doing my things + or rated pvp to get gear and the gear is just as good or better than Mythic. There is no reward. The only reward now does not come from gear, it comes from skill when you get your cuttings edge. But that’s about it.
Rpg's from the late 80's and early 90's were all pretty easy, but it was all about the grind. You had to travel the whole collecting gear and weapons used to defeat bosses. MMORPG's when they came around in the late 90s were very similar except they were even more grindy. You really needed to dedicate time to the game. To be honest wow and everquest were of equal difficulty. Most of both games were doable by the casual player if they put the time in. Today mmorpgs are slowly morphing back into rpgs as people go solo as opposed to grouping. We have come full circle.
The grindness was a way to timegate content in line with the subscription monetization model. I remember the mid 00s game boy advance rpgs were also full of grinds but at least they were optional and yoy didnt have to pay monthly
I mean, you can do retail at your own pace too. i think its better to "miss out" on ap rather than to feel like your entertainment is a chore. Isnt your work boring enough as it is? I know mine is..
Funny.. "If I die I lose experience" Has been standard for Diablo... but that's not the most fun way to play it. The most fun way is hardcore. 1-death game over. There are some things that help you though. The stash saves items you're not carrying to your account and you choose the level you wanna play at.
I don't think classic is casual friendly, this is because I have played until level 22 doing quests and I have seen a total of 4 players and all of them where level 60 and AFK. this sucks as you need to quest with other people for escort quests and other more difficult zones and doing it on my own is not fun or easy. I am on a server which is consistently high population and and I still don't see new players. It ruins the casual experience when there are no players and when you need more people do finish certain quest lines.
Classic isn't "hard", but the game assumes it teaches you a lot more than it actually does. It's casual within the context of its contemporary rival MMOs from that era. Leveling in Classic is easy. Easy to everyone who has experience with MMOs and isn't a first timer at all. Dungeons are easy too. Easy if you've already done instances in other games. Classic is not easy to complete beginners. Maybe nobody will be stuck at a certain level forever, but they will progress many times slower and it won't be as fun.
I like transmog but on the same hand it takes away how good gear is cool to have . Maybe if there wasn’t lfr and stuff it would make it better but I remember when I started and you would see max levels with the raid gear on like holy shit !! Lol and you could easily see they were bad ass . Now what you look like means nothing anymore
Maybe we could have retained that if blizzard had made it so that you could only transmog to dungeon/raid/honor/arena sets once you'd cleared the corresponding dungeon/raid tier in current or spent a lot of time in battlegrounds/arenas and acquiring the corresponding set. Like sort of arranging it into 'transmog tiers' or something. It would be more restrictive which some people might not want, but it would also make it so that if you saw someone with vengeful transmogs you'd know they were actually an arena player.
A casual isn’t the amount of time played a casual is anyone who has no qualms about stepping away from the game to do something else regardless of what their wow character is currently doing

Time 4 the A- brothers to make the perfect on-going ever-changing wow replacement :) Blizzard is screwed 4ever.
Casual: You play for fun
Hardcore: You play to escape shitty life and get immersed
PepeHands
Chad: Get immersed for fun
Casual - running in circles, doing shit. You can play 24/7 and be a casual that never steped into raid or any kind of pvp.
Yep me during covid lock down in aus 14 hrs a day ...but I atheist have cleared all raids up to sunwell
It all depends on your definition of "Casual", since there are 1.5 billion variations, the answer will be both yes and no. IMO, a casual is someone who schedules their game time around what's going on IRL. Versus someone who is hardcore who schedules RL around their game time.
Example:
Hardcore: I can't meet you guys for dinner tonight because I'm raiding.
Agreed
Then don't play a mage?
@@Dead_hamplay a warrior and spam rend and heroic strike instead? All of the classes work the same except locks.
As a casual, yeah. Just depends on what you're looking for.
Basically a NO ganking server with below Orange Difficulty quests that AREN'T either all versus Elite mobs or forcing you down into some dungeon...

@@veng3r663 usually guys that have never done endgame content in wow, or have barely played wow at all and only play a couple of hours a day on average. Why do you think a casual doesn't like world pvp?
Casual : How many in-game hours do you need to be hardcore?
Hardcore : Yes
More than you have in a day.
The right question is how many hours a day you can afford to waste on real life.
Hardcore: Yes
Strider Hiryu more the 10k

I would love a whole sound track built off the little intro melody!
It actually is a remix, I think it's called "Wetgrass Inspired", if I'm not mistaken
You ain't got shit on my lvl 21 toon. I'm THE casual.
I played wow for 10 years. Even I tried to go to retail and had to quit. It's just stupid now.
I define myself as casual because I don't plow through all the content and climb hardcore to the top.
This.....
Looks like you've plowed through some McDonald's though.
Honestly EQ was a great game. You only lost your gear if you didnt go get it back. Then later on they made it so you could just summon your body with items to you.
love the "ooh grats" when the guy leveled
One thing I appreciate from Private servers is that raid finder usually doesn't work
Classic has no real treadmill, people are free to set their own pace.
12:25 rottyteeth said “brush me”. Strange but... ok. You’re welcome.
Asheron's Call was definitely more difficult than WoW.

i think the casual vs hardcore argument has to do more with a combination between how seriously you take a game and how much you play. You can play a game for 20 hours a week and still be playing it casually, or you can play for maybe an hour or two a day but still have it be a hardcore experience (speedrunning for example).
10 hours a week ? I spend 10 hours before I get up to eat food
In short: "unless you play all the time"
That is the hardcore part.
Level 45 shaman here. I play less then ten hours a week. I'm loving it.
Background music was too good for me to focus on what he was saying..
10:50 That was the best take ever, its so true.
Every time Asmongold takes swipes at Everquest he wounds my boomer heart.
he almost took swipe at runescape, a game that takes skill to play

Star Wars Galaxies. I miss that game
N8 Gaming you can still play. Google swgemu

@@RaizanMedia "Massive bullshit because your deaths were at most often unavoidable"
-RaizanMedia
Nope, your statement is nothing but opinion. The fact is all your deaths were avoidable in Everquest. You just had to be paying attention.
"or due to the overly complex nature of the game."
-RaizanMedia
Everquest was not overly complex. It just had forced dependencies. That is not a bad thing in an MMO. Even WoW, to a very limited extent unfortunately, has some sort of forced dependencies.
"It lead to nothing but rinse and repeat with no real reward"
-RaizanMedia
In your opinion. In mine it had nothing but reward. You simply had to be paying attention and plan properly to receive said rewards.
somethin abouut playing classic hardcore and watchin these videos just brings me back lmao
This guy is speaking like hes locked in a basement and if he speaks to loudly his captors will come and beat him
Mad season is the shit, but yeah it turned me off at first. But then you think of how loud and awful people are in real life, and his voice actually calms you down eventually lol
I really feel he's just not doing the whole loud UA-camr bit.
What i wanna see in retail again is armor sets with bonuses depending on how many pieces are equiped.
But we all know that aint gonna happen
I got wow on cataclysm, but I never felt being part or in the game. Just pressing button, and not even knowing what these "dungeons" and "raids" were. I had one friend there, but thanks for buttons we never got to play together.
Fuck that battle toads/double dragon track goes hard
9:35 true , i do want to play the game constantly but its because its fun
I think casual play is that to not feel obligated to do things like in example of wow(daily quests and stuff like that ) in order to get some kind of satisfaction from it.
well some of us have a failed casual heroic guild and some us being the only lock in the raid unable to raid have only have LFR...
Hate urgency in retail

I don't know where I fit in because I play the game for fun and feel like a casual but I do mythic + stuff... Although I'm not much into PvP
Yeah after classic i went to retail and i found it very sterile and anti social.
Yea there is just so much more info that is way easier to access now.
My dad has made atleast 100 rogues and hunters over and over in the starting zone. The highest level character ive seen him have is 30, but he will delete and start over and make a new one almost every week or 2. Super casual
Everquest was hardcore for the hardcore. Blizzard just made a more user friendly version on Everquest.
WoW classic is easier than current wow, but the hardest thing imo in classic is resource management & gearing different characters at the same time.
classic is a test of patience, that's the only thing that makes it "hard"
2:41 - Casual gaming - a game i can relax with and escape reality; not to be sent into another world to do chores repeatable quests like with borderlands by example. before WoW i played Dark Ages of Camelot and before that Runescape.
Remember playing Silkroad Online when death meant loss of 20% xp, everytime no matter the level
tibia
Leveling in Classic is NOT harder if you team up. Its when you try to solo yellow quests that the challenges arise. But that can be more fun! Barely surviving a fight and killing the mob is a thrill, but sometimes just escaping is a rush. When the cost of failure is time and relatively small repair bills, why not challenge yourself while leveling. It will sharpen your skills for raiding and PvP.
The song is the main theme of gold shine inn in acupely
Everquest was awesome. You know nothing Asmongold. I still remember lvling up my Iksar Shadowknight Rakarsis. DOUBLE EXP PENALTY! ULTRA GRIND! When he died and I lost all my gear I went into a deep depression as If a close family member had died. I never got that experience with any other game lol. I never became attached to any ingame character as much as my precious Rakarsis. Thing is 99% of the time besides that one death Everquest was awesome because of the attachment you grew with your character and seeing them grow along with your friends.
i remember playing the witcher III right after playing dark souls cuz I had decided to download both games, and noticed something was wrong when i killed a cockatrice 15 levels above me and i forgot i was playing witcher and not dark souls: I was using the potions and rolling around and make rotations with the crossbow and at the end I actually won easily only with a little patience
PS: WOW is a D&D session where the DM tells you're passed out and trying to rest or being randomly saved just so you can continue the campaign and have fun
Imagine if instead of just facerolling heroic dungeons and world quests at the beginning of BFA to get some gear, you actually had pre best in slot raid gear that was meaningful to obtain ;D
2 hours is casual. It takes about 2 hours to link booty bay to Dustwallow marsh, so you can fly around kalimdor as alliance.
I love that Asmon thinks buddy running from the Wortts in SWG is EQ......
min 10:00 u said the best thing ever , i hope blizzard takes notice
I think WOW classic can definitely be 'casual friendly', but I think when most people ask, they really wanna ask if it is 'solo-friendly'.
Hell the stats and abilites Can even be the same.
spectrum is def the right word to use when describing hardcore wow players
Lock has a better spell rotation
Shadow Bolt
Life Tap
Shadow bolt
Lifetap
Shadow bolt
out of health
Wand wand wand
still more spells then mage
Only hardcore people like asmon are allowed to play classic kappa
Oh yeah its tiring I done heroic raiding from DS onwards quitting on mythic Uldir going through all legion doing mythic raiding and I'm just tired from it
Retail needs to remove LFR and Heroic as modes. Normal for the PUGs and casuals, and Mythic for the tryhards. Nothing else is really needed.
Dude I didn’t even kno moonkins existed in vanilla I never saw one
To me 'casual' is indication of hours, not skill. A casual can be as good as Method raider, they just can't/don't put the hours in.
the 26 mark grats was perfect
15:09 even tho people talk shit about demon hunters, I’m so glad that they don’t have a million abilities like other classes
as a mage, i agree
Classic isn't "hard", but the game assumes it teaches you a lot more than it actually does. It's casual within the context of its contemporary rival MMOs from that era. Leveling in Classic is easy. Easy to everyone who has experience with MMOs and isn't a first timer at all. Dungeons are easy too. Easy if you've already done instances in other games. Classic is not easy to complete beginners. Maybe nobody will be stuck at a certain level forever, but they will progress many times slower and it won't be as fun.
LFR gear should not resemle the proper raid gear at all. They should be blue items, and look like generic pieces of armor of the eagle
thought this was going to be a video about whether or not classic is casual friendly, not to compare how casual friendly it is compared to stuff
Casual is someone who play all day for 2 days and then touch it again after few weeks again
I'm currently trying to play catch up in WOW and trust me it is no way casual.
That was Star Wars Galaxies
19:52 Payo is in the chattuh!
