I've owned one of these (pre-hybrid model / colour: mineral grey) for 10 months and covering 7000 miles so far, please allow me to add to this great review a 'living with' update: Good: -It will never, ever, fail to make you smile. Even if you've had the worst day work, a fiery drive home in this will be a complete mood booster and you'll wonder what you were annoyed about. - Due to the very low weight and high torque output, ignore the stats, in the real world on British roads it's really quite the little beast and will embarrass quite serious 'prestige' machinery even at motorway speeds. Honestly, once you've got used to the gearbox and the power delivery, a good double-clutch down from 60mph into 4th on to the boost you will be amazed. Which brings me onto: - I don't agree with all the reviewers who belittle the performance saying "you can play with the car safely within the speed limit" As per above, in the real world & flat out this car breaches most speed limits before you're even into 4th gear - It really does look superb. It passes the "parking up, walking away and looking back at it" test, if that makes sense? It's aesthetically pleasing. Bad: -Infotainment system is a bit pony. It's slow, looks naff and is frustrating to use. -The standard Continental Conti Sport 5 tyres aren't really a good match for it, they encourage the understeer, Michelin Pilot Sport 4's are far superior on this car, but they're not cheap. -Personally, I don't like the driving position, you can't sit low enough in the car + it's just generally all wrong, plus the front passenger seat doesn't even height adjust so unless they recline like they're on a spa day they sit so high they may as well be the Pope. - The noise of the engine is a bit dull. - Not convinced on the build quality, but it's early days. The squeaks and rattles, whilst maybe small, after just 7000 miles is a bit concerning, and the tracking & alignment has been done already, although the UK road's ability to destroy cars never ceases to amaze me so that may not be the car's fault. I've been picky about the bad points so as to not sound like too much of a fan-boy. But basically, I am. If you're thinking of getting one, do it! It's a rare breed of car now that is solely been designed to make you happy :-)
Suzuki is cheap and reliable thats their main selling point here in Hungary i had an older swift and never ever left me on the side of the road for your built quality concerns allow me to introduce Olivér :) ua-cam.com/users/OliverAmon93videos
I'm a mini driver and was so surprised by this car when I had one for the weekend . I was that impressed that I'm selling the mini to get one . Great value for money and no doubt a lot more reliable
@@JaneDoe-ft7ln thanks for your reaction:) they cost around €17000 here in the Netherlands, quite expensive. And most of them are imported so no checking history possible.
A great review as always Mr. Petrol Ped and as a result I bought a manual red one in April 2019, had it lowered 30mm immediately, put in a nice matching faux leather/red stitching console bin to spruce up the interior - love the car, difficult to fault it. We're still waiting for the Fiesta ST in Australia and it's going to cost at least A$7,000 more on the road than the Swift. I considered the I30N as well but they're far more expensive, mid to high A$40K here. In the real world (not the track), wouldn't miss the various settings (sport, track etc) and to even notice the lack of the LSD in the Swift Sport, you need to be cornering at race speeds that would endanger your licence anyway. I drive to work in Melbourne, a mixture of 5th/6th gear cruising and bumper to bumper crawling, getting 5.9 - 6.0 l/100km - fantastic economy. I also have a 500 BHP R32 Skyline GT-R as a collector so I can say hand on heart, this Swift Sport is very rapid, surprisingly so. It does run out of puff a bit at the very top end (tiny little turbo) but there's loads of torque down low and mid range whenever you need it in traffic. For the money it is, if you want a fun little car that does everything extremely well, I'd certainly recommend saving your hard earned and getting into one of these.
@@whatthe6532 Good old ebay back then, on checking it's not there now. In ebay now, search 'Universal Leather car center console armrests storage box', not red stitching but might work out for you. I also got a 'Handbrake Sleeve Brake Cover' back then, again not there now. It just slid over the handbrake lever, looks great still after 4 years. A decent upholsterer could make you one that shouldn't be that expensive. It certainly brings the interior up a bit. Cheers.
He's no snob. If he's having fun - he will say it :) That's what it should all be about. I reckon more fun in this on UK roads than many more expensive "drivers'" cars.
This car is a lot quicker than it looks on paper and 0-60 feels a LOT quicker than 8 seconds. I was very surprised at how snappy this thing accelerates. Suspension is also nice and few nice features.
Ray Hunt After watching your great review on this Swift Sport you made my mind up to go for a test drive In one and was lucky enough to see they had one in yellow at my local dealer with only 6k on the clock and a great price, it was all you said about it the torque is amazing and after the test drive I am now the proud owner of one, pick it up Friday, thanks Pete.
Another comment from me, this is the best Swift Sport review on here, thank you. Going to dealer today to enquire. I have a Celerio, its been a cheap reliable town car for last year and half, and even though you get some cabin noise in this Sport model, it will seem a lot quieter than the Celerio, so its a step up in many ways for me. Cheers
So glad you got to get your hands on one of these after driving the previous boosterjet model. Sounds like a really great all rounder and I'm pleased they kept the same ethos as the old model in terms of spec. It's refreshing not to have a bewildering selection of options and kit levels. I think they've judged it perfectly as it currently fits in it's own niche. I'll be getting a test drive at my local dealer this month.
Cool car and loads of spec!! Looks like a two door thanks to that very clever rear door handle design. The 0-60 time is very impressive. It wasn’t too long ago a Golf GTI was producing that performance.
Yay thanks for this, and thanks for popping the bonnet. I know modern cars are plastic covers these days, but it's nice to see it. I had a 2008 Suzuki Swift sport, it was a hoot, I'm someone who doesn't care about the badge, as long as it's well made/reliable, etc etc I don't care about the badge. I regret selling my 2008 Swift sport. The success to fun cars = agile/handling which = lightweight.... usually.
Test drove one the other day....it does have reach adjustment for the steering by the way, anyway I have to say that I previously test drove the new Fiesta St which was quick, rode and drove well etc but I did not gel with it, I did not like the artificial steering in sport mode, best mode for me was normal so the driving modes are pointless IMO, seats as mentioned in other reviews, although really nice are very tight around my bum and thighs so can see numb bum being an issue on a long run, also had understeer around a corner I know very well! odd. Anyway I really the enjoyed the Swift Sport, proper old school hot hatch feel, not as quick as an ST but properly quick in the lower gears, loads of grip, could not get it to break traction or understeer!, had a proper giggle in it which is the point isn't it?, walked away from the test drive and plan to order one, the ST was Meh so will save myself some money too. Great review by the way.
The original Viper only had 400hp from an 8 litre engine so a mere 50hp per litre. Most superminis have equivalent or better power per litre even in naturally aspirated form.
Ive just purchased one..I test drove the UP gti, Polo gti,Audi A1,Fiat 124 spider and few other before buying the new Swift Sport. For the money its a great car with high spec and a great drive that the other brands couldn't match. Just the long wait now for it to arrive ...
This car actually has 163 HP (120 KW). The 140 HP that Suzuki have stated is the 'at the wheels' power. The new car has 170 lb/ft of torque not 162 lb/ft (that's what this engine in the Vitara has). The previous car had 118 lb/ft of torque not 110 lb/ft. Also, the steering wheel does indeed have reach adjustment. Other than that, great review!
Petrol Ped No problem. The Swift Sport has always been quicker than Suzuki's book figures too. The new one, and the old one. This is common knowledge amongst Swift Sport owners. Thanks for the reply!
Tuners are getting to grips with these already and yes as stated they are finding that the new swift sport is in fact healthier than Suzuki suggest, a company called CTC performance has had their standard demo car at 152bhp/154ps . 182lb/246nm and a healthy 167.5bhp/170ps . 206lb/280nm with a remap also raise the rev limit as very easy to hit and a bit on the low side.....which in a sub ton car is ample I would say?. However people dreaming of remaping to 200bhp will be disappointed as apparently that would require a bigger turbo and exhaust/intake mods.
Most Japanese car manufacturers seem to still understate the hp and torque figures of their cars. I have no idea why they do this. I have an old non-sport suzuki swift which on the brochure only says 92hp. I tested it out on a dynamometer and the hp is actually higher.
Thanks for clearing that up for me, I was going to ask you about if it had a digital speedometer. My wife’s getting a 2022 version, of the same, and therefore I took one for a test drive, and whilst I prefer the analog speedo, in this case, I noticed that the 100kph mark (on the Swift) is about where the 40kph mark is on my Hilux, which is kind of off putting, as I kept needing that needle to move around nearer the top of the screen, where it belongs! The 2022 version, has that much needed feature (digital speedometer readout). Another thing I’m not loving, is, the lack of an arm rest box between the seats. One other thing, that was particularly annoying, and I’ve never seen anyone doing these reviews actually comment on, was the front facing camera/s on the windscreen behind, or in front of, the rear view mirror. Having never experiencing anything like this before, I couldn’t believe how distracting it was. In the short 10 km or so, trip that I drove it, I could not believe how many times it grabbed my attention, otherwise I was very impressed with it. I particularly love the ‘lack of’ exhaust noise, I prefer silent but violent, doing ‘my’ 210 kph without attracting attention! Stay safe.
I’ve had mine since Jan (in Aus) and I still love it. I loved it when I bought, and it’s just continued to grow on me. I got the white. Could do with a bigger sub woofer, however.
Love this little car. I have a 2019 sport and my steering wheel does have reach as well as rack. Great value and so nippy. Just a fun car to drive. Mine is red so looks much better than the awful yellow
I've owned a 2010 suzuki swift sport for many years and its such a solid car. Heaps of aftermarket support althou they are setup pretty well from the factory.
Scratchy3713 you are so lucky! I own the hybrid version 1.2 lt natural aspirated version. I am happy with my car but I wish I could afford this version
In the UK the previous 1.6ltr model is rated at insurance group 20A, this 1.4ltr Boosterjet model which was only made for about a year is rated at group 35D. This is a crazy jump in insurance cost and has possibly stopped many younger drivers from buying one. This model was replaced with a hybrid model with a smaller turbo - slower acceleration than the two previous models it still has a top speed of 130 mph and is rated at a bit more reasonable group 28D.
Great video! I like the cheeky styling and love the fact that they've made the car lighter - rare when car manufacturers do that nowadays. However even as a japanese myself, I don't think this would hold a candle to the upcoming Fiesta ST with its power and interior look, but I guess it depends if you prioritise handling over horsepower or vice-versa. But seeing how the Swift Sport is a few grand cheaper than the upcoming 2019 Fiesta ST in its base-spec 'ST1' package, maybe Suzuki were targetting a different 'audience'...
Mgoblagulkablong because he mentioned Fiesta ST at 18:29 ? How about you watch the full video and listen carefully to what he says before you waste your time patronising me? 😂
Mgoblagulkablong awwww you're offended!! Need your mummy to cry with you and your teddy bear? LOL its okay, you're having a bad day, I understand why you're so butthurt like a typical social justice warrior haha. Your first reply implies that you're taking the moral highground "HOW DARE YOU COMPARE THE SWIFT SPORT TO A FIESTA ST! I'M TRIGGERED!". Awwww I'm the rudest japanese person you've ever met! Its ok, you'll never be welcome in Japan anyway ;) Try meeting the rightwing nationalists that wave the imperial japanese flags on their black cars blasting patriotic music and try meeting the yakuza hahahaha
Nice review. I only had the chance to sit in it and I loved it. Very confy and excellent for tall drivers. The seats give you very good support. I did not test drive it because I wasnt going to buy it. This car for me has to be in this colour, champion yellow. If I bought one one day I would put some OZ ultraleggera 17" wheels in bronze or gun metal and lower it more. Thanks a lot once again. Best regards
Hi Ped Excellent video again, well done.not wishing in any way to criticise the motoring press, I think you fill the niche they cannot provide, and give us reviews we want to see in language & emotion we understand. Keep up the good work (if you can call it work, I would say play)
You should take a look at the CTC Swift Sport based in Somerset. They're very tunable and often underrated from factory 200bhp+ 300Nm+ without touching any internals. Also used market a 2018 Swift is an absolute bargain approaching £10k with with sub 15k miles on so sub £13k you could have over 220bhp per ton with tons of tech!
We have examples of both of the previous models in my driveway. They are both awesome driver’s cars too. Cheap, low weight and willing. The “grins for bucks” ratio is huge. Can’t wait to try one of these now.
Owned the earlier model of the Swift Sport since 2010 and your excellent review of its update makes me wonder whether I ought to raid the piggy bank and upgrade to the 2018 version. If I do, I'll stick with brilliant white so as not to provoke dear old Sergeant Knacker. Worthing Suzuki owe you a dozen good bottles of red ! [ p.s. the previous post mentioned the thigh-hugging front seat; no worries, after a few weeks you'll mould into it ! Then appreciate the grip ]
Just moved back to the UK a month ago and close to where l live there's a Suzuki dealership and this guy is on display there and I just fell in love with it. I am a massive Abarth fan but for a 500, I am too tall specially if it has the Sabelt seats but I would buy this car over an Abarth 500, 595 and 695 because of driving position, and space. I just think that the Swift could have come with a bit lower suspensio. 2cm less would make it absolutely fantastic. Just subscribed to your channel. Cheers
Have a drive of one. Similar to drive with bags of character and lots more room inside. Drop some coilovers on it and to a resonator delete on the exhaust and you are sorted 👍
@@PetrolPed You are very welcome. I actually thougt I had subscribed already but it seems that I did not... My bad. Better late than never. You are right about the coils and the resonator. Maybe coils are not available yet as it is a very recent car but never know...There might be companies working on that already. Regards
Enjoyed your review of this car.Loved most things about it but the interior is a bit "busy" for me .I like simplicity (being a Caterham owner) and shame about the gearbox. With all its good points it deserves a good tight shifting box. Sorry ,but there`s nothing I hate more than a spongy gearshift! You are so right about having fun within the speed limit!
The thing I like about this is NO SPORT MODE. Instead, you just get all the power, all the time. I cant be doing with a button that you press and it does things to the steering and throttle response. Nothing more than a gimmick, in the same way as keyless start. Why not just have a key in the ignition ? Is that too hard for todays snowflakes ? More secure with a proper key as well. Manufacturers are simply not learning about the theft risk of keyless cars yet. Anyway, superb car great value, and one last thing, good reviewer, told me a lot of good points about this car, especially about refinement on long journeys as this would have to be an all rounder for me. My only other choice is the S-Cross Allgrip version, but that will depend on my lifestyle when I come to change my car (have a Suzuki Celerio at the moment). This brand is going places, is more reliable and better value than all the overpriced German crap. Suzukis are also cheap enough to buy without getting a PCP deal, which are pointless unless you fancy renting a car for the rest of your life !
"Manufacturers are simply not learning about the theft risk of keyless cars yet." Of course they know about that. But as long as the customer base doesn't know it too, manufacturers can ignore the problem.
ikaruga xx Land Rover Discovery sport, a weird locking system, if you double lock the doors with the fob, you can still open the doors by hand if you have the key with you. Eh ? How can you be sure its locked when you walk away ? Dreadful brand.
Late arrival on this one Peter, slap my wrist. For that kind of money I don’t think there’s much to complain about. Nice selection of toys (even if some don’t do anything), that will appeal to young, first new car buyers. Wheel/tyre combination ? Nothing not to like there, looks? Average fayre for this part of the market, the lack of rear door handles is a nice touch (looks like a two door at a quick glance). The torque/bhp for a 1.4 engine is respectable. I don’t think the faux carbon fibre is that bad, twin tail pipes, what young driver wouldn’t want those on their “hot hatch” look alike ? I’m sure the range of body colours & additional decals could give it an extra sporty look, aka MINI. POV from behind the steering wheel on different roads is always a part of your reviews that I enjoy. The 0-60 was respectable & the 60-0 more than. It’s going to appeal to a limited group of buyers, I’m sure. Not something I would be looking to purchase but then again if my circumstances changed I wouldn’t walk past & ignore it. Looks like a fun car & thanks for reviewing. See you down the road, Geof
Cheers Geof. Great summary and I think you are bang on. If you are a young driver and you are looking for your first sporty car then this would be a great option :-)
It was awesome. Sadly my time behind the wheel was cut to about 5 laps thanks to a slight misfire. My passenger ride with the owner, who races it, was mind blowing !!! Shame we didn't meet. I'd have loved to say hello !
Great vid. Drove an Up GTI the day after driving one of these and the Suzuki feels considerably quicker. The 3-cylinder in the Up is the more charismatic engine though but the sound is artificially piped into the cabin. Never been a fan of VAG products manual gearboxes either so would say that the swift has the sweeter shift, even though the throw is a little long.
I watched your test of the 108 hp Swift Boosterjet immediately prior to this Sport review (both very comprehensive and interesting BTW) and got the impression that you were more taken with the less powerful car as it was much faster than Suzuki's understated performance figures suggested? I believe that if Suzuki did a GT line version with the 108 hp engine but with a sportier trim they would sell very well.
I really like the design , maybe it's too boxy for some others but that's what I actually like , it's different , but what's with the fake carbon fibre ? I mean ..I ain't even mad , kinda suits it ?
Hi petrol ped. I keep thinking the red 'glow' around the thumbnail means I have watched the video. Because when a video has been played on UA-cam it has a red bar at the bottom. I think that is what is making me think I have watched it and I am more likely to skip the thumbnail and not watch you video. Others may agree or disagree. I realise it matches your branding with the red. I agree red is a good choice for standing out. But maybe try a different colour, perhaps white? Or you may decide to remove it from your photoshop batch process. Cheers and keep up the great content, Rich
Sounded alright to me - my last car (a 2013 1 series) was let down by having zero noise !!! Ok, it’s new - but £18k 😳 0-60 was very impressive for what it is.
keith morris I agree with what you say, and a great car for the money but the UP GTi has far less power than this, so I have to agree that the direct competition is the Abarth 595.
Really enjoyed the review. As a big fan of small, light cars this caught my interest. Have you tried the Up gti? I would be interested in your thoughts.
I would of liked to have had some direct comparisons vs the 1.0 boosterjet - is it worth the extra over the smaller boosterjet? Handling and feel? Overall performance?
2nd dam it! Missed first by one minute 😂 Think I would have this over the Arbarth mate 🏁🍻Drinking a stella watching you and Portugal vs Spain.Boost gauge in a 1.4 litre engine 😂
You are right. The Abarth since generation 3 Euro 6 are actively programmed to deliver an immense power fail now and then to prevent it exceeding the strict engine/exhaust emission noise. So if you want a swift little car that really works, get the Swift instead. :-)
Hey Petrol Ped, since you already tested the 1.0 boosterjet engine, how would you compare it to the Sport? I feel like the soundtrack of the 3-cylinder is much better... Performance-wise would you say the Sport is worth the extra cash?
The Boosterjet is a great little car but this is a step up in terms of performance. The Sport has much more torque which makes it a far better car to drive :-)
I am between this and Mini Cooper 1.5 3 cylinder, didn't drive neither but I appreciate handling and sporty behaviour over luxury, is swift better to drive and modify??
I'm considering this car or the diesel Honda Civic 1.6. I'm really not sure what i should take. What car would you consider? Thanks in Advance! Greeting!
Have you driven the Civic ? If not I'd recommend the petrol varient. Depending on your budget you should try the 1.1 or 1.5 Sport. More money but a SUPERB car ! They are not two cars I would put up against each other. For a lower budget, the Swift Sport is a great option. Again, drive one and see what you think :-)
Thanks for your answer! I've driven both cars but the Honda only in the Diesel Variant. I'm more like a Diesel Fan because i'm driving way too much and way too far. I drove also the Subaru XV, Kia Cee'd, Hyundai i30 and the Jeep Renegade, but those two cars were my favourite, its really hard to decide.
An update, but wait there's more.... Monster Sport in Japan are offering an up grade on the new Swift Sport, 190PS with an up grade max of torque at 2000rpm where the std car is at 2600rpm. Now you can start to compare it to a Fiesta ST.... Monster Sport is the official tuner for Suzuki. There are also kits available from Trust and Cusco similar bhp.
Really like the swift sport, my partner has a normal swift which is a good reliable car, the only thing that puts me of isn't the price, but the insurance grouping, 35d is ridiculous, an St is only group 28, Honda civic type r is group 34, seat Leon cupra at group 33, polo gti group 29, why on earth is swift with standard safety equipment and less power etc, 7 groups higher than a fiesta St?
Hi Petrol Ped. I know this vid is 3 years old but Im thinking about buying one. Do u think you could find out if 68 reg and on have a GPF.? I dont want to find I buy one and its slower and thirstier than an 18 reg. I believe our Govt brought out legislation in Aug '18 forcing GPF's? Im not talking about the Hybrid, Im talking about this model - the 1.4 petrol. This happened to 1.6 turbo petrol Astra's, the 16's and 17's were 6.6. to 60mph then the 68's and on got a GPF and went to 7.3 to 60mph and thirstier too. Ive just subscribed.
Just a shame these cars keep getting bigger! I really liked the original Swift Sport, I will hold jedgement until I see one in the flesh! Nice comprehensive review as always 👍🏻
Don't think I could get passed the badge .... I just think that the Germans make good quality cars.... did it make a good sound when you closed the door ? That's what I base a car on the door sound
Sounds like a Golf ! No, seriously, I know what you mean but the built quality seemed pretty good. Certainly worth a try if you are thinking of this type of car. However German cars have their attraction to many :-)
That was a good review Pete. Not a Suzuki fan at all to be honest but it seems like a decent car. We don't see Suzukis very much in the part of the USA I live in. So I don't even know if the one you reviewed will be around for the USA market
0-60 i can guarantee you will be wayyyy under 8 seconds! The previous swift sport did it in under 8 seconds in reality and this one is lighter + more powerful, Could probz achieve low 7’s-high 6’s
Not sure about the styling! Especially the front. Also think a car in this market should have at least painted or branded Callipers! Also I think all new cars should now have Apple/Android play as standard! Am sure it will sell well for its price point but a admittedly more expensive Fiesta ST is a different Class! You need to get yourself into one!
Is it the mic - or is there a LOT of road noise in the car ? Sounds like he has to yell, for us to hear him ? :O :( Im so close to getting one of these cars. But that noise sounds insane...
They went for low weight over comfort. No sound deadening materials. It's a little on the noisy side at motorway speeds but nothing unbearable. Best test drive one to see if you can put up with it.
Good review. Seems to be a decent enough car for the price. I like the rear but not so much the front. I test drove the UP! Gti and that was a nice fun car with plenty of torque low down. Sounds great in the cabin too. The UP! is surprisingly spacious in the rear and would sit two adults comfortably. Any chance you would be reviewing the UP! so as to do a comparison? Having driven the UP and a couple of new hot hatches, I think for a nice small city car to use daily, I would choose the UP over the Suzuki.
Mgoblagulkablong I've never owned a VW or driven one till I drove the Up!. My preference is simply based on my own experience of my test drive and this review. I've got 2 impractical toys so I'm not searching for more power but merely an interesting and enjoyable city/practical/new car that's easily affordable and the Up right now for me fits that purpose and will allow me to keep the 2 other toys. I'm really a Honda fanboy and even then, I would choose the Hyundai I30n over the Civic Type-R if I had to choose having driven both. The Hyundai offers better value for money and has more character in terms of driving pleasure in my opinion.
I've owned one of these (pre-hybrid model / colour: mineral grey) for 10 months and covering 7000 miles so far, please allow me to add to this great review a 'living with' update:
Good:
-It will never, ever, fail to make you smile.
Which brings me onto:
- I don't agree with all the reviewers who belittle the performance saying "you can play with the car safely within the speed limit" As per above, in the real world & flat out this car breaches most speed limits before you're even into 4th gear
- It really does look superb. It passes the "parking up, walking away and looking back at it" test, if that makes sense? It's aesthetically pleasing.
Bad:
-Infotainment system is a bit pony.
Thanks for this. Really interesting 👍
Suzuki is cheap and reliable thats their main selling point here in Hungary i had an older swift and never ever left me on the side of the road
for your built quality concerns allow me to introduce Olivér :)

I'm a mini driver and was so surprised by this car when I had one for the weekend . I was that impressed that I'm selling the mini to get one . Great value for money and no doubt a lot more reliable
Super little car 👍
Did you end up buying it? Is it as good as you thought it would be? I have the old ignis sport, but am looking for an upgrade.
@@J2I3Hthey're great. Regret selling mine and am looking at getting another.
Wow...this is cool ! Glad I could help 👍
Long time ago but where did you get your console bin. Thanks
Cheers.
Great to hear.
Another great review, I love how you test a wide variety of cars yet you maintain the same enthusiasm and respect for the brand you’re testing.
It sure is :-)
The torque, suspension, fuel economy, grins per mile are really selling me on this car. I like good brakes too.
Ray Hunt
After watching your great review on this Swift Sport you made my mind up to go for a test drive In one and was lucky enough to see they had one in yellow at my local dealer with only 6k on the clock and a great price, it was all you said about it the torque is amazing and after the test drive I am now the proud owner of one, pick it up Friday, thanks Pete.
That is great to hear. Enjoy your new wheels 👍
Cheers
Wow Simon, that’s cool. When I get asked what is the best car I’ve driven on Petrol Ped I always put this in my top 5. Brilliant car for the money 👍
Let me know how you get on !
Suzuki is totaly under radar, but it rules. Quality is also great. The last smart car. I'm buying one.
Cool car and loads of spec!! Looks like a two door thanks to that very clever rear door handle design. The 0-60 time is very impressive. It wasn’t too long ago a Golf GTI was producing that performance.
I know, I think we all forget what the performance of icon like the GTi was 20 years ago !
The success to fun cars = agile/handling which = lightweight.... usually.
You need to drive one of these...you'll love it :-)
One of the closest modern hot Hatches that remind me of the old school ones from the 80’s in terms of power. Great vid ped 👍🏻
Exactly...that is a great way to think of it. Glad you enjoyed the vid :-)
Bought mine today I fell in love during the test drive
Enjoy !
Cheers Adam. Hope you enjoy the new car :-)
Am totally in love with this car.
whats the price in the UK
You seemed more happy in the boosterjet 3 cylinder
*FACT:* The engine in this new Swift Sport actually makes more BHP per litre of displacement than a Dodge Viper.
Really ? That is a great fact :-)
Josh Bacon yea, with a turbo.
Yes but the viper has alot more litres 😂
Yeah but the viper has a v10, has 8 litres, and i think you forgot about newer vipers
The original Viper only had 400hp from an 8 litre engine so a mere 50hp per litre. Most superminis have equivalent or better power per litre even in naturally aspirated form.
Have to say that looks like a fantastic little car
Ive just purchased one..I test drove the UP gti, Polo gti,Audi A1,Fiat 124 spider and few other before buying the new Swift Sport.
For the money its a great car with high spec and a great drive that the other brands couldn't match. Just the long wait now for it to arrive ...
Enjoy it when it arrives :-)
Just got another week for mine to arrive....in red!!! Had a sz3 1.2 never missed a beat just wanted a bit more power 🤫
Just going on the figures I was given ;-)
Glad you liked the review.
Petrol Ped No problem. The Swift Sport has always been quicker than Suzuki's book figures too. The new one, and the old one. This is common knowledge amongst Swift Sport owners. Thanks for the reply!
Dude where Did You get this info, that this engine can muster 163 HP? I reallí wanna' know. o_O
Stay safe.
Very good video and I agree that its good to see cheaper cars featured on your channel.
Cheers Peter, it's good to have a spread and this one was brilliant to drive too :-)
I’ve had mine since Jan (in Aus) and I still love it. I loved it when I bought, and it’s just continued to grow on me. I got the white. Could do with a bigger sub woofer, however.
That’s interesting. I didn’t really try the stereo. Always good to pump some bangin tunes through the speakers 😜
Will get mine in 9 days, counting the hours! :-)
I bet you are. Brilliant little car :-)
Scratchy3713 you are so lucky! I own the hybrid version 1.2 lt natural aspirated version. I am happy with my car but I wish I could afford this version
I've driven one and it really is very good. I'd take one over a fiesta or up all day long!
I now need to drive the Fiesta and the up !
Great car and great review. No wonder the swift is James May's favourite normal car of 2018
Great cars 👍
Enjoyed watching that review. I am such a Ford person but it's nice to see different small hot hatches 👍
Looks like tons of fun. And the price point is great.
Sure is :-)
Great video!
This is the same price (with more equipment) as a 140 hp Fiesta, why compare it to the ST.
Mgoblagulkablong because he mentioned Fiesta ST at 18:29 ? How about you watch the full video and listen carefully to what he says before you waste your time patronising me? 😂
Why IS HE comparing it to the ST. Are you happy now? I never met a japanese as rude as you, but on the internet you can pretend to be anyone...
Japs has roll out some tuning kits to make it output 190ps@5000rpm and 31kgm@2000rpm. its cool enough for a compact car weight lower than 1t.
God I'm happy they're slapping turbos on these from factory now. So much more build potential.
I like your thinking 👍
@@PetrolPed Good. Lol. You are an early bird like me. Haha. I start work at 8 but need to stop at Tesco before.
Have a nice day!
I love this car , i need this car
Enjoyable review Pete, this reminds me of hot hatches of old, I wonder if it can lift a rear wheel !
Pretty sure it would. I did chuck it into a left-hander when the cameras weren't rolling and it just dug in and got on with it :-)
The Fiesta ST does that a lot too.
Good road test.
Think you are trying a bit hard to compare to a Fiesta ST, given the bhp.
Perhaps the old Fiesta Red or Black editions are a closer ?
Hi Ped
Excellent video again, well done.not wishing in any way to criticise the motoring press, I think you fill the niche they cannot provide, and give us reviews we want to see in language & emotion we understand.
Keep up the good work (if you can call it work, I would say play)
When you enjoy your job you never work a day in your life ;-)
Although this is still a hobby. Teaching comms is what pays the mortgage :-)
Too bad Suzuki has stopped selling in the U.S. It seems like a great "entry" level car.
We have examples of both of the previous models in my driveway. They are both awesome driver’s cars too. Cheap, low weight and willing. The “grins for bucks” ratio is huge. Can’t wait to try one of these now.
A year later; I’m picking up a new, bright red one tomorrow 🙂
Whyyy????
Owned the earlier model of the Swift Sport since 2010 and your excellent review of its update makes me wonder whether I ought to raid the piggy bank and upgrade to the 2018 version. If I do, I'll stick with brilliant white so as not to provoke dear old Sergeant Knacker. Worthing Suzuki owe you a dozen good bottles of red ! [ p.s. the previous post mentioned the thigh-hugging front seat; no worries, after a few weeks you'll mould into it ! Then appreciate the grip ]
Go and have a test drive, although it might be dangerous to your bank account 😂
Oh and thanks for the Sub 👌
@@PetrolPed You are very welcome. I actually thougt I had subscribed already but it seems that I did not... My bad. Better late than never.
You are right about the coils and the resonator. Maybe coils are not available yet as it is a very recent car but never know...There might be companies working on that already. Regards
Another good video, it's good to see somebody covering these types of car. Cheap and fun. Enjoy lemans😊
They should put the Caterham 6 speed in it. One of the best changes around !
Well done on 20K Subs keep up the great work 👍
Thank you...it was great to get there but now my eyes are set on the next target :-)
"Manufacturers are simply not learning about the theft risk of keyless cars yet."
Of course they know about that.
Today’s snowflakes? Only idiots generalize.
See you down the road,
Geof
Cheers Geof. Great summary and I think you are bang on. If you are a young driver and you are looking for your first sporty car then this would be a great option :-)
Thanks. It helps with my decision to buy one of these.
That is great to hear 👍
Ps I think I spotted you on track in the Lancia today. Saw you round Redgate. Looked quick , and good line .Hope you had fun!!
It was awesome. Sadly my time behind the wheel was cut to about 5 laps thanks to a slight misfire. My passenger ride with the owner, who races it, was mind blowing !!!
Shame we didn't meet. I'd have loved to say hello !
This is the best car in the world
Interesting. I am trying to get into an Up at the moment :-)
Fiesta will be in dealers next month so another of course to try
I watched your test of the 108 hp Swift Boosterjet immediately prior to this Sport review (both very comprehensive and interesting BTW) and got the impression that you were more taken with the less powerful car as it was much faster than Suzuki's understated performance figures suggested? I believe that if Suzuki did a GT line version with the 108 hp engine but with a sportier trim they would sell very well.
I am sure you are right Brian. Both very good cars though :-)
The smaller engine has a sportier sound and ped said it had character. He didn't say that about the bigger 1.4 l engine.
The 1.0 makes 130 hp, so its pretty tempting. Still cant make my mind up haha
Very good review! Definitely seems a good option for that price point
Thanks Sam :-)
I really like the design , maybe it's too boxy for some others but that's what I actually like , it's different , but what's with the fake carbon fibre ? I mean ..I ain't even mad , kinda suits it ?
Enjoyable video. I've also watched a short video on this car from CarShizz and it's interesting to see the different view points.
I'll check that one out ;-)
13:40 - 0-60mph test. You're welcome.
Cheers and keep up the great content,
Rich
Thanks Rich. That is great feedback and not something I had thought of :-)
Great film Peter, really enjoyed your review,.... Impressive edit also :-)
Bit late but:).it would be good ,in your video, if you mentioned the heritage of the model...the old GTI's are great little wagons!
Please test the new Fiesta ST if you can get into one Mr Ped!
I'm trying :-)
Enjoyed the review, very good info and video quality 👍
Cheers Gaz :-)
Sounded alright to me - my last car (a 2013 1 series) was let down by having zero noise !!! Ok, it’s new - but £18k 😳 0-60 was very impressive for what it is.
The stopping test was the bit that impressed me ;-)
A very detailed review. Good job!
Cheers. Glad you enjoyed it :-)
I think the competition would be the Abarth 595 Trofeo 160bhp 170ft-lb torque for the same price point.
If you throw in Fun Factor, VFM /smile per mile , practical usability, then the VW Up GTi is really competitive imo
keith morris I agree with what you say, and a great car for the money but the UP GTi has far less power than this, so I have to agree that the direct competition is the Abarth 595.
As an up! GTI owner, I'd love to see you do a review of one of these. Just need your local VW dealership to play ball with a loaner... ;)
A very fair assessment Peter
Cheers :-)
It's great to see a shot from over the drivers seat as well. Makes you feel like your actually sat in the car yourself
The grin on your face says it all 😁👍🇯🇵❤
Mega little car 👍
I have the old one. The gear box is my only complaint .just think it's a little overpriced but would like a test drive.
You should try to get a drive. I reckon you will be tempted ;-)
As always a great review from Petrol Ped , i would like to ask you if possible to review the new 2020 SSS Hybrid model please
This sports model sounds loudly, it is not silent.
Really enjoyed the review. As a big fan of small, light cars this caught my interest. Have you tried the Up gti? I would be interested in your thoughts.
Up at the top of my list of cars to review :-)
it´s a very beautiful car but if it came with automatic gearbox and steering wheel paddle shifters that would be really nice
I would of liked to have had some direct comparisons vs the 1.0 boosterjet - is it worth the extra over the smaller boosterjet? Handling and feel? Overall performance?
Yes it is worth the extra, better handling and much greater performance 👍
I’d say more scope for customisation and mods with the Mini 👍
@@PetrolPed Thanks for the info, and what do you think about driving experience??
28th A new PB for me (?) and 4th post (It will be edited though).
Getting there Buddy :-)
Looks like a flying banana🍌 😃But lots of tech for the money Great for a second car 🏁👍👍
The low redline scares me. Coming from higher revving engines. Maybe the previous model swift sport will be more suited to me
I'm considering this car or the diesel Honda Civic 1.6.
Have you bought one of the two, one year later?
An update, but wait there's more....
Monster Sport in Japan are offering an up grade on the new Swift Sport, 190PS with an up grade max of torque at 2000rpm where the std car is at 2600rpm. Now you can start to compare it to a Fiesta ST....
Monster Sport is the official tuner for Suzuki. There are also kits available from Trust and Cusco similar bhp.
Didn't think it would be too long before that happened :-)
That would really pep up this little car !
Great review, got a subscriber. I really like the look of it, but not at that price. For a grand more I would rather get a Fiesta ST instead.
Thanks Eric. Welcome to the channel. Have you watch my recent Fiesta ST review ? That might helps you make a decision :-)
Wow, didn't know that :-(
@@PetrolPed Apart from the cost to buy, which isn't cheap even on finance, the insurance grouping is probably why there aren't that many on the roads.
Previous shape was much nicer in my opinion! 😊
I saw one yesterday in fact and they do still look really cool !
Thanks for the Sub. Why not give your local dealer a call and ask them 👍
Just a shame these cars keep getting bigger! I really liked the original Swift Sport, I will hold jedgement until I see one in the flesh!
Nice comprehensive review as always 👍🏻
It is 70kg lighter than the previous Swift Sport.
The seats aren t too compressive for legs?i m 185cm x 95kg and they are too Little for me :(
They were OK for me :-)
Will you test drive the new hybrid version they just released to compare the difference?
Maybe 🤔
Don't think I could get passed the badge .... I just think that the Germans make good quality cars.... did it make a good sound when you closed the door ? That's what I base a car on the door sound
Sounds like a Golf !
No, seriously, I know what you mean but the built quality seemed pretty good. Certainly worth a try if you are thinking of this type of car. However German cars have their attraction to many :-)
good review...
Thanks :-)
How tall are you? Was thinking of having one soon but I’m 6ft4”....
6ft3"
That was a good review Pete. Not a Suzuki fan at all to be honest but it seems like a decent car. We don't see Suzukis very much in the part of the USA I live in. So I don't even know if the one you reviewed will be around for the USA market
Not sure to be honest Buddy :-)
Good review. Not sure it's for everyone. Look forward to the next video. How about Le Mans?
No car is for everyone, but it could certainly change a few peoples perceptions of Suzuki as a brand :-)
My Le Mans trip didn't happen in the end :-(
0-60 i can guarantee you will be wayyyy under 8 seconds! The previous swift sport did it in under 8 seconds in reality and this one is lighter + more powerful, Could probz achieve low 7’s-high 6’s
Watch the video and you will find out 😜
Petrol Ped haha give it a few thousand more miles and it’ll do it even quicker 😉👍🏽
7.1 sec in true - faster than 200hp competitors. it's fastest hatch!
Good review 👍
it does have fake tips, , the real exhaust is inside the face larger pipe..
Driving the Fiesta ST today ;-)
A different class in reliability too
Is it the mic - or is there a LOT of road noise in the car ? Sounds like he has to yell, for us to hear him ? :O :(
Im so close to getting one of these cars. But that noise sounds insane...
They went for low weight over comfort. No sound deadening materials. It's a little on the noisy side at motorway speeds but nothing unbearable. Best test drive one to see if you can put up with it.
It’s the mic. It always makes things sound worse. This is a while ago now but I don’t remember it being that bad 👍
superb video
Cheers Ron :-)
Love to be able to afford one of these not a fan of the yellow :D be tempted to get it wrapped :)
There are other colours to choose from ;-)
Good review.
It's No.1 on my hit list at the moment !
Other than being a VW fanboy why would you choose the Up over the Suzuki? The Suzuki is better in every way.
