5 kg weight and 3 bhp makes no difference to the 2 car performance. If they added a 10kg weight into the Suzuki do we think, the Renault would accelerate faster ? What made the Suzuki faster was the gearing.
True. Also depends on the torque and power curves of the engines. The swift may produce more torque over a wider rev range which would certainly help after the shift into 2nd.
Suzuki made a lot of modification from the first gen Swift to output not only 136hp but also very decent torque throughout the rev range using VVT amongs other things. It's really a good engine. The Twingo's engine is much simpler
Swift Sport's 0-60 is overrated for insurance reasons (0-100kmh above 9s puts it in a lower insurance bracket), in the real world its around 7.3s in ideal conditions, and Renault will have almost certainly done the same.
Oh the Swift, I wish my first car could be that, unfortunatelly they're way too expensive here, I'm aiming at a Fortwo Brabus, everything second hand of course.
I live in Africa where second hand vehicles rule. My current vehicle which happens to be my first is a swift. Not even a sport either! I love it! Not quick but when you know how to play with the momentum and golden zone for the cvt, it is a fun little thing! Transmission is the biggest downside as it slips sometimes but I plan on getting a new car soon. Till then, I treat her right and keep her well serviced. Lots of fun!
Still an entertaining video after all these years. Watched it a few times over that duration. As suzuki mainly made bikes I'm not familiar with their sports division if they have one for cars, but Renault sport is a well established sub division, so it would be no surprise their sporty models will drive and handle well. It is interesting how the twingo is smaller, but they managed to make it 5kg heavier than the likes of the swift.
Excellent! Very helpful when deciding which to buy on the used market 👍 Suzuki are much more reliable (joint 5th in recent Driver Power survey & from experience of owning several models from both Renault and Suzuki) plus lots of standard equipment on these ZC32S Swift Sports incl projector/xenon lights, keyless entry, start/stop button, climate & cruise control, leather multi-function steering wheel, comfortable suspension tuned by Suzuki on British B roads; these handle very well and absorb poor road surfaces well. Last of the lowish weight (circa 1050kg) manual, normally aspirated hot hatches with decent safety (NCAP 5⭐️ at the time) has been likened to a more modern 205 GTI in several reviews, with a revvy 1.6 n/a engine (M16A) that handles very well and most importantly, is fun to drive! Very entertaining and informative video! Tiff and Plato shootouts are the best; thank you 🏆
Funny enough the Swift isn't "more reliable", it's actually less reliable. There are examples out there where pistons decided to take a walk outside the engine, and there's zero examples of Twingo RS going bad. Renault Sport models have a long heritage and the F4R engine used here is bulletproof.
Funny you mention a Venga.. I’ve got both a Twingo sport like this one and a 1.4 diesel Venga. I’ve had the Venga remapped, believe me it’s faster than the Twingo.
@@ryanlike2162 My missus has the 1.6 petrol venga its nippy but at least on paper its a 10.3 0-60 however hers is the automatic. I call it the tardis though smaller than a bmw mini but almost as big inside as a focus.
I don't know why you'd buy any Renault honestly, I don't like either of these cars that much but bloody hell the Suzuki and a couple mods and you're still saving yourself money as much as I don't like them those Suzuki's go alright and they'll last a hell of a lot longer
Why didnt you go on a +- 500km trip in tandem.. talk about ride comfort, and economy.. These cars are not designed for track.. I know you have a show to produce, but who is going to do that kind of driving that you show?
I am the owner of a Swift and I bought it to drive on the track and participate in amateur slaloms, just as shown in the video. There is a rental service at the Nürburgring where the majority of cars are Swifts. Any more questions? 😉
Happier times, but where has the time gone??🤔😳😳😲 Also a time when proper motoring journos and/or race drivers were on FG et al, instead of paid up shills reviewing environmentally unsound EVs💔🙄🤕🤬
Instant dislike! This is from 2013 and yet it comes across as recent. At least put the year it was broadcast so that I have a choice of wether to waste my time on old videos. Is this how sad Fifth Gear has become, to replay old videos.
They're hot enough for their price and the time of filming. Both does 0-60mph/0-100kmh in around 8 seconds (and for the Swift, up to high 7 seconds contrary to what Suzuki said) but their cornering capability will leave alot of cars behind in the corners - thats where they shine.
Wait a second.. this was filmed over 10 years ago. Let that sink in.
That's why they're not using the newer Swift which is much more ugly.
I noticed the iPhone 4 they were using and then I was like, now wait a minute?!
@@Alexandra-Rex I think newer swift looks better. Also would beat the new twingo as it has more power and less weight.
im convinced 2010-2020 wasnt a proper decade. doesnt feel any different now from 2012 i swear haha
Wonder which work better now after 10 years, my vote goes to the Suzuki!
so much fun to watch. that swift is definitely a bargain
Two touring car drivers and the cars came back with all their paint and bumpers, I'm impressed

When I’m older I’m going to get one of those Swifts.
Oh wait…
Really good cars the Swifts.
Bought one new 2013 still got it in 2022.
Fun car but stock too much understeer.
Needs a new suspension/ better dampers.
Same here, bought one in 2013 and it's still in my garage!
Mine has stock suspension yet, but with negative camber and toe it handles a lot better!

Well he is 70 now
It was so entertaining. I might have to find old seasons
Such a mistake losing Tiff, as so much challenges with Plato.

Both fixed rear beams😀
