      Not happening yet. Right now you will have to have Starlink standard at 120$ at home plus a fixed subscription of 30$ for the mini. If you cancel the home dish, the mini get canceled too. And mini is capped at 50GB. The price for the dish (mini) is 599!

    Very useful for fixed residential use. Many of us live off grid in cabins, yurts, trailers etc. in Northern European winters we need low power use items even with quite large solar PV displays.

    yes you can plug it to 12v-30v with regular DC port or car lighter or even a power bank with PD through PD trigger, tested in Kyiv, Ukraine. It consumes 25watts per hour, speeds are 200mbit down/26mbit up and yes you can use it while driving

  • @frankneugebauer6455

    I like to use it for my camper. Such a small antenna is easily put on the roof thru the skylight (when car stands!). With the current big antenna, this is a bit more tricky.
    Of course tons of youtubers will publish some hacks, how to fix the new antenna on the roof even during a drive safely. However, thats not my intention. I just want to store it easily while driving, put it on the roof in a second or two or with a long cable elsewhere if needed at my destination. If they lower the costs, starlink becomes even more convincing.

    DC 12/24v supply would be logical. What worries me is the integrated router which means it will likely be sitting out in the sun. I have lived on the road in Australia for 12 years and the sun will quite quickly start breaking down plastics and electronic equipment.

    • @bradley3549
      @bradley3549 4 місяці тому

      The whole starlink already has to sit out in the sun 100% of the time, so I dont see how adding a router inside the same case is going to make a difference there.

    thank you, wow. Smooth and informative video! Buying service with MINI by the gigabyte if you could expand the freedom of time to use it would be a great alternative to pair up with a lower monthly rate package, being able to turn it on and off to conserve my wallet would be juicy good. I have been loving my standard for 6 months now but when the bill comes around, I get a huge growl happening. All of your ideas toward this were great....!

    is there any information on whether the Mini will work on 12v as it is aimed at RV/Camping?

    • @StarlinkHardware
      @StarlinkHardware  4 місяці тому

      No information at this point that can be trusted. In the FCC testing docs that we have so far, it's only the router part that is being tested, and it was tested from Starlink's Gen 3 router wall adapter which converts 120VAC to 30VDC. But that's just for the FCC testing, probably won't have anything to do with the production dish. I imagine the Mini will have a separate power supply brick for AC. And hopefully, they will offer a DC adapter or something so that you can plug directly into 12V. If they don't, that seems like a major error on their part, considering this is supposed to be a portable dish. I will for sure keep posting updates on any developments as I get them!

    So, is this antenna is not one that is moving by itself? Could it possibly be mounted on a side of a building, with only 50% of sky available?
    If so, this would be a gamechanger for me, living in an apartment block with no roof access.

    • @la7dfa
      @la7dfa 4 місяці тому

      It will probably work, as they getting more and more satellites up. But you really should see offer first, because now it is linked having a regular size starlink home subscription in order to get the mini. And the mini is capped at 50GB and cost 599$. But it will probably change over time.
      I bet you can do better price and performance with an outdoor 5G antenna than to wait for Starlink.

    • @michajastrzebski4383
      @michajastrzebski4383 4 місяці тому

      @@la7dfa yeah, but my local 5G offers are shitty tbh, and also I travel a lot - so it could be a nice alternative.
      Oh well, maybe it will change with time. Good thing is, they roll out antennae that are not requiring a motorised mount with full sky view. Maybe a wall mounted full-blown starlink antenna will come one day or something :)

    • @la7dfa
      @la7dfa 4 місяці тому

      @@michajastrzebski4383 Yes they are doing some initial offerings now. I agree it will change over time as they will have to compete with local suppliers. When the number of customers gets in the tens of millions it would be no problem to have low subscription costs while still making profit. The limiting factor will be available bandwidth.

    • @StarlinkHardware
      @StarlinkHardware  4 місяці тому +1

      It’s not ideal for several reasons. The integrated router would mean your WiFi comes from above your roof. If you needed to do a factory reset, you need to climb up to the roof. Need to plug in devices to Ethernet? You would have to climb up to the roof and run a new cable through. Also the lower power output means the Mini would be less reliable in rain and snow, and might have trouble actually melting snow and ice.

    • @JoshuaYule

      @@StarlinkHardwareI live in rural Louisiana. Cell and Internet services are as slow as 30 year old dial up.
      I want to set up in my 1st generation Toyota 4Runner and use the Wi-Fi on the house when parked next to the house.
      My hope is that with upgraded alternator and back up battery in my rig, I'll be able to have internet in my small cabin with tin roof.
      Are there indications that this scenario would not work?
      I need primary modern internet instead of 6.6 Mbps down and sub .8 Mbps upload speeds on my difficult area AND as mountain biker, camper, hop in the truck and go mobile.
      If the mini had AC option or could be connected to inverter/converter, then maybe plugging in a POE extender when I'm home could provide Wi-Fi when I'm walking riding the trails I've built on my 6 acre property.
      I presently use a Wavlink 1200 in a tree and am able to extend meager Wi-Fi 350' radius.
      I need this dual option to get back into the 21st century.

    It may have wifi built in but not sure. On the standard dishy it only shows the router if it detects it. I use the sl router in the motorhome and it shows it on the screen but if I’m in my kenworth I have sl but using a 12v conversion so different router and it only shows the dish in the app no router because there isn’t the sl one so it just shows the white line for a cable then dishy and a beam for signal. I’d said this awhile ago. In regard to dictatorial control, a platform can be controlled by a myriad of the pathways that can just randomly shut you down, this happened to parlor where the Apple Store and google store at the same time shut down the app and Amazon shut down their database. Very concerning. So think about it.
    You use a pc that is either Apple or windows or android, your computer ties to these companies via regular updates so any of those companies can shut you down. Then the apps you use can be deleted or shut down. Then your internet service provider can shut down or limit what you do. Then your nations government can shut you down at a broader firewall. You have all these levels of control. It seems Elon is creating a free pathway in a digital world where these evil aholes can’t control you. He just needs to create a phone and people need to start using Linux.

    I live in rural area and these internet companies were ripping us off with crappy internet for years. Then starling appeared and I bought the dish and the service. My monthly plan was $90 which seamed fair but then after some time they changed price to $120. That seams like total BS. Paid $500 for the hardware and now they jacked the price for the service that does not performed nowhere near as cable internet. When its cloudy or if there is blizzards going on I dont get connection.
    Thankfully thir competition finally got off their lazy ass and decided to extend fiber optic internet from town 10 miles south of us. They will bring service down to $50-$60 which seams like something that most people can afford. Internet shouldn't cost same as car payment. If you think I pull this out of ass you can lease brand new WV Jetta for $99 for 2 years. That is a brand new car. I am so sick of these companies taking advantage of regular people. We can't all be billionaire's. Having reliable acces to the internet should not be a choice.
