The 1984 FAV got me started into the real men hobby of RC, I have the 2011 re-re now built up. In my mind I thought the original went much faster then now. Nice to see you have an original to work on. After the FAV I got (with my brother) a Hornet, Blackfoot, Hot shot, Sonic Fighter, Pajero, Vanquish, Top Force(58100, 58362, 47350 got them all) , Durga, CLK HKS (58291, bought in japan) , Nissan Coppermix, BMW M3. Later on I picked a lots of re-re version of the old cars ie. Buggy Champ, Fighter Buggy, Avante and black version, Subaru Brat, Vajra, Egress, Toyota Tundra, XR311, Wild Willy, Mountain Rider, Ford Mustang, G500 and a TT-02R chassis, Toyota Supra. Most of them are still in box.
Man those Tamiya instructions are beautiful. I'm a CAD draftsman so I know how hard it is to make assembly instruction look that clear. Sorry for geeking out just then LOL
watching you build these cars takes me back to the 80's as a kid building mine on xmas day lol, had a "sand rover" first, then the "hornet" and last one I had was the "wild one"...thank you to my wonderful parents for buying me these kits :) and thanks for these vids
Glenn, that came out GREAT! 😎👋👋👋👋👋👋👋 The Lettering on the Tyres just POPS so well, and your building shows the same passion for the Hobby that I have. I can only WISH I could afford any of the super awesome Kits that you show.... I haven't been able to buy ANYTHING since 2014. 💔😢 My past 3 Videos, I've been doing free mods on me Holiday Buggy, including custom Interior and Inner Fenderwells that actually keep dirt out. I'm just trying to find things to do to keep my Hobby alive. It's good for the Soul. Carmine ✈🚂🚙
As disappointing as it is.... Since some originality is already lost, I'd say go with DuBro Ball Link Steering and a Kimborough Servo Saver. ELIMINATE the notorious Tamiya SLOP! The Grasshopper-esque POGO STICK Springs are a shock!! (Pun intended!) 😜 I would DEFINITELY see if Frog 2.0 Dogbones could be fitted instead. You could still hide them in those Driveshaft Boots. 😉 Trials and tribulations of buying used. A little challenge, a little fun!
Hi Glenn, after watching part one I decided to look at the info on the chassis of my FAV that im building from new spare parts here's what it Say's: model No 58046, part No 0984057-01 and the year is 1984. Steve UK.
You did an excellent job on that car I like how it came out that's something about finews ones though sometimes gets frustrated because they say all the parts of it and tell mate at least you at you with Eva to get it if my I'm sorry if my spelling is not that great I'm not good at spelling awesome video thanks for taking me along
Hi and my apologies if this has already been mentioned but the steering rods you have are correct for the original release of the fav. What you have is a re-issue E- sprue for the gearbox parts and this has the slightly longer front trailing arms which were on the wild one. Think tamiya had to make them slightly longer to accommodate the larger wheels of the wild one and hence these issues in the re-re. Good original chassis by the way, no cut out for battery lead like on re-re. Hope this helps
@@TAMIYALegends no problem. I have 3 original fast attack vehicles and by far the hardest parts to come by are original e-parts and have been caught out by buying supposedly original parts before. The only noticable difference is a slightly wider spread on the front end. Ps great channel mate and love your passion 👍
looking good Glen. Brings back fond memories of when I build my FAV. Loads of work and even more paint but well worth the work that goes into it. I have never run mine for the same reason that I don't wont to scratch the paint and as I did mine in camouflage it would be hard to touch up the scratches. She is on the shelf where she will be looking good forever! The plastic nuts you used on the top of the roll cage are the correct nuts. I think they used plastic to make it easier to paint them to match the body.
Looking good so far never been a big fan of this RC because there always painted camo but just green looks awesome. Looking forward to seeing it finished matey!
I think it’s brilliant Glen!!!. I’m sure you’re in pain with the build especially as it was a box of bits!!!!!. However another classic from our era!!!. Really different in the way it goes together. I’m just gutted this one passed me by back in the day!!
Nice build😊 go down to your local push bike shop and see if they sell any spokes with the thread you are looking for. Spokes are easy to bend and get the right shape. Good luck to you
Just put together a bundle of parts hotshot 2, needed front ball ends and links for the anti-roll bar plus upper screw pins for front and rear suspension, not complaining as I totally expected parts to be missing, now though I have a fully buily Vintage hotshot 2 sporting a Vintage Parma Cyclone Stock motor that came in the bag of parts, Bonus 😎
I loved this so many ideas now with the Fast Attack I now own. But a person with you experience doesn’t a challenge like this on a vehicle you wanted make it all the more worthwhile. Like the man said I Have A Certain Skill Set that could be very useful in a time like this.🤣
Lovely job so far pal. You know i never realised the fast attack had a Grasshopper gearbox at back!?? Thats kinda cool! Obviously i never owned one of these, and only ever saw a couple pics in my old Tamiya catalogues, and never remembered seeing the GH gearbox on back. Thanks for the vid my friend! Look forward to seeing the final product! Wes.
wesley donnelly Hey Wes, It’s not really the grasshopper gearbox, similar gear layout I guess, but the actual housings are really different. Thanks as always buddy 😊👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends oohhh right i see? Thanks for educating me my friend. Beautiful little model btw! Can't wait see it finished! and thank you too for the great channel/content.
Nice Job, to bad on the missing parts. Of course they are all available from the rere one, but i know thats not what you wanted. What i did mention: at 2:43 top middle you can see: no recycle bin stamped into the chassis. At least my RERE FAV has one, there might be multiple versions of the rere (i doubt that) or it is an original Chassis. Metal parts bag with the front springs is "Tamiya Metallteile-Beutel A Fast Attack Vehicle FAV #19401790" Steering Rods are: #19401791 and the MG spring is: #15040013 . All still available in germany.
To keep the paint from coming off when you drive it several coats of semi gloss clear coat and that will protect it a bit. Use urethane type clear coat very strong .
If you get a scratch you can sand in the camouflage with fine sandpaper! I think the scratches will add a touch of scale realism as many military vehicles are repainted to suit the environment that they are deployed in. Furthermore add_vice ! Lol,collect more tools to solve annoyances
James Cunliffe Thanks James, great help as always my friend 😊👊🏻 As for tools and equipment I haven’t be careful, I could be shipped back off to the uk with a couple of weeks notice. So I kinda have to keep that in mind 😬
I was going to recommend black fuel tubing, until I noticed that you already had. The fuel tubing works waayyyy better than the spring. The spring always seems to bend slightly-- Causing the little machine gun to angle slightly.
Sure u heard this already by now; but if u r worried about paint chipping, to make your paint layer stronger spray a coat of Flat Clear TS-80 over the final layer.
I've been watching the Hotshot and Supershot videos for a few weeks. So interesting to watch, thank you. Did you ever make longer threads for the drive arms or find shorter ones? I stopped using my Wild One after only a few years because I broke a drive arm around 87 and the replacement E parts arms were strangely too short. I took them back and exchanged them for more E parts with shorter arms. I did not return them and no longer used my car. 35 years later, I noticed a comment below explaining why they don't fit...
I really do like this it looks awesome my friend Quick question my TTO1 front diff is clicking I've had a look inside there is no damage to the gears or bearings do you know what is possibly could be👊👍😎🇬🇧😊

Noteshelf queens and you should have put ball bearings in it.
15 tooth would give it more torque and more acceleration but would not have higher top-end you should replace the pinions.
