I love Jerry Lewis. I have quite a few of his movies. He was very intelligent and deep. Every interview I've seen him in, he provided detailed answers in which you can understand the depth of his overall knowledge. He speaks of his Dad being handsome. I've always thought Jerry to be very handsome. I wouldve loved to have sat and talked with him. Just two human beings having a conversation. Thank you for sharing the video ☺ 👍

I think a lot of people who don't like Jerry Lewis have a problem with him being an intelligent and somewhat serious person, and not the imbecile he portrayed. They don't seem to realize, if he wasn't that smart, he could never have acted that stupid ;)

Reminds me a lot of Robert Downey Jr. Brilliant, articulate, direct, honest, intelligent - almost a photographic memory - and a bit of arrogance that comes with the territory. Most of our presidential candidates can't speak like this for 5 minutes without floundering.
An amazingly talented, accomplished, and hard working individual, with influences and flaws. You find that out because he's not being constantly interrupted or competed with.
Thank you for posting this. I'm from England & vaguely recall seeing Jerry Lewis on a US entertainment show when I was around 5 or 6 on TV in the 60s. All the top US entertainers were so glamourous & appealing to us here. I didn't know he was teamed with Dean Martin for many years either. Those shows had been my only reference to Jerry until now, as through these revealing clips, can see what a complex, intelligent & fascinating man he was. 👏👍
Well he performed in them in the tv series Wiseguy, and movies Funny Bones, Max Rose, Fight for Life, The King of Comedy. Then he directed The Day the Clown Cried which has never been released, but was a very serious dramatic film, with comic elements since he was a clown. Then Jerry directed tv shows that were dramatic comedies.
I am trying to figure out Jerry Lewis. He appears very open and honest in all of his interviews. I also believe his sons when they say how difficult he was to live with and that he did not treat them well consistently.. Gary, etc was not invited to the funeral. But there seemed to be love between them growing up. He was in a lot of physical pain while his sons were growing up so I should cut him some slack there.
Jerry often talked about his wife and children in depth, but a good deal of that is in articles. What do you want to know? As for Gary, he actually lied about a lot of things, including his father bailing him out of jail several times, throughout the late 60's and 70's. Jerry once said he spent $500,000 to bail him out. Patti Lewis in her book, alluded to Frank Sinatra and friends stepping in, when they heard Gary was in trouble for hitting a car. What she didn't say in the book was that Gary was also arrested for drugs in his car, which is why he went to jail on that particular occasion. According to other newspaper articles/stories, Gary also held up a gas station (in his drug days, according to a newspaper clipping), robbed his parent's house of video equipment and jewelry to sell for drugs (according to friends of the family), and was implicated with his friends in the rape of a woman, who later refused to testify (according to an article). Anthony and Joseph never said their father disciplined them in any other way, than spankings with either a hand or a belt. Does that make most of Americans, past or present, child abusers? There are a lot of child abusers out there, but I think a line needs to be drawn for people who were taught nothing else but this way to discipline their children and are simply spanking their children when there is no other recourse. I'm not saying spanking is right, but it's not necessarily wrong either. Jerry had good intentions. Patti his wife, was abused as a child by her parents, and fought against that. I don't think Patti would have stood by, while her children were abused, if that was the case. But it isn't, since none of them have said that anything happened more than a couple of spankings. That's literally what Anthony said "couple." I'm sure 6 sons were more than a handful. Also I don't agree that he wasn't interested in his home, wife, and family. His letters sold on ebay, prove this. He was often apologizing to his wife, and praising her. He definitely felt guilty all the time. Then he always was happy to talk about his sons. Hi, I have a question. Jerry cut all his kiving boys out of his will and only two of them went to his funeral. Jerry did an interview with Raymind Arroyo and at the end of the first interview of two he did. Raymond asked Jerry what his legacy was. He ointed to Chris and said what a good son he was, that Chris knew everything about his dad's career and that he was his best audience even as a baby.
He gave them all trusts, which were set up many years before. Jerry Lewis was heavily in debt when he passed away, and his wife and daughter had to sell a lot to pay off debts as it is. Net worth doesn't equal money in the bank. Anthony Lewis was disowned, because he stole money meant for his mother's care. Ronnie Lewis disowned the whole family many yrs before. Gary and Jerry had troubles on and off. Gary wanted to say stuff about his father, but the truth is, Gary would have easily gone to jail in the late 60's/early 70's if his father hadn't bailed him out, or I assume make issues go away. I can't say good things about Chris, even though in the end, Jerry and Chris were the closest.

JL was a tremendously talented man. He could sing , dance, and act in comedies and dramas.

Jerry was pretty deep thinker and I am surprised he didn’t perform and direct more serious movies later in his life

Yes this was released on July 16th of 1965, so 4 months after it happened.
