I Loved Jerry Lewis and still do he was a gracious beautiful Man with a great big heart. I saw him in person in NYC! I knew several people that worked with him in person at MDA, and Damn Yankees, who loved him R.I.P you were so real God Bless Jerry! He was simply the king of comedy as many of the great comedians have stated. The Stooge is a fantastic movie as well as Jerry’s own movies. Unforgettable! Sammy Davis Jr. Told the same story in person about Jerry. He stated Jerry liked me before it was popular! Same with so many. Let liars lie. The envy of some, a small minority, is very telling. The people always loved Jerry real people, not toxic. Dean praised him enormously so did Sammy Davis jr.
Sweet my ass. He was positively cruel to his children and he left them nothing in his will, despite the fact he had millions and could have set them all up for life. The man was so much up his own ass it hurt. No wonder Dean Martin had nothing to do with him for well over 20 yrs. Dean was class, Jerry was a real prick.
He had trusts set up for all his children except the one who spoke badly of him on hard copy or inside edition. He wouldn't allow anyone to betray him twice. I thought he was a jerk, more I learn about him my assumptions are the same Jerry was a gifted asshole
He “grew up with love”. Funny he didn’t practice it within his family. What a bullshit actor this man was. The interviewer is asking soft questions. And Jerry is at his best when honoring himself.
"I'm very protective of my co-workers" ... What about the time where he banned, on pain of being fired, anyone on the set to speak to his female co-star on a movie because she fought off his sexual assault.
That happened to me in the USAF after reporting my assault. THE ENTIRE BASE picked on me from knocking on my door often & leaving or saying things, leaving notes. Calling on the hall phone, that's used for family calls & hanging up. Blocking all doors I needed to enter & exit, etc. 24/7. We had classes to study for tests or worked from sun-up to sun-down. I transfered, but it followed me at my new location. WHY? It's in my PERSONNEL file, NOT Medical. Police Dept is the same way. That's call The Blue Flu or THE Chill in probably all jobs.
@@ivee5022 So sorry, I would like to think that someone would stand by you. It must have been lonely on top of stressful. Glad that you made it out the other side.
@@ivee5022 Sorry to hear you were assaulted, and that your brothers in arms turned their backs on you. On a very different situation, I spoke up about illegal behaviour at my old company. I followed all the correct whistleblower channels that should have protected my identity. 2 days later I was ostracised by the whole team - boss and peers alike. Then suddenly it was judged that my performance was bad, and they wanted to fire me. So I said fine, that will cost you $200,000. So they paid me to go. Then when I did my tax return, it turned out they had overpaid tax by $60,000 ha ha. So the tax was returned to me; I have it in an escrow account; I emailed them 5 times to say I had something that I urgently needed to discuss with them about my leaving arrangements ... and I haven't heard from them. That was 10 years ago. I'll give it another 5 years, and then get legal advice as to whether I can keep the money
Jerry often treated the people who worked for him like crap. He was arrogant, nasty to hired help and delusional about his stated humanity. That doesn't take away from his comedic and entertainment genius. Bottom line, he was a talented asshole.
This man was dealing with a tremendous amount of physical pain, he was suffering from prostate cancer and you have the brass balls to be upset about him having some candies????
@@rosedaddona4262 The only one with brass balls as you no one was attacking him he wasn’t eating candy he was chewing gum the man was rude to everybody he work with I knew him personally did you
Why would he have any reason to think otherwise? He revolutionized so many things. Stage performing and literally the making of a movie changed with his ideas. Immediate video play back on set. Jerry invented
@@jodavey Thanks! Jerry was a self taught comic genius- as Sinatra was a self taught musical genius. Never mind the warts- all they owed to us was a great performance, and both of them gave us our money's worth. :)
Well. He was probably neither. . It's incomprehensible how poorly he treated his first wife and sons, but people are complicated. The man did do some good in the world. The Sammy Davis story is truly moving.
@@8ofwands300 maybe he did do good but that doesn't give you the excuse to do bad. Some people do good to appease their consciousness of the bad they've done ,instead of asking forgiveness to his wife and children. That's not a right motivation for doing good.
Thank. I'm always a Jerry Lewis' fan. Just look at him how greatly he describes the art of showbiz and comedy to us so profoundly great. I don't see today's so called "artists" or "actors" who get paid millions of dollars for NOTHING deliver such great artistic conversation. Most "actors"/"artists" in today's Hollywood are empty headed school dropouts who used to be in gangs and even homeless. But they're there for that very same reason, to produce more of themselves, to dumb down the new generations. This was NOT the goal of entertainment industry before; the opposite of was true(to promote great art and thoughts); it changed for worse.
+Jay Wolf Totally! Jerry in his prime was the best of the best... that vacuum scene in Who's Minding the Store is still my favorite ever sight gag of his... His big solo pictures, like the Patsy, Cinderfella, Disorderly Orderly... pure gold.
Uncle Harry, agreed! Jerry aged very well and I think he always looked about 10 years younger than he actually was. Now compare Jerry at 70 to Dean Martin at 70. Jerry aged a whole lot better.
What you are seeing is his depth of character. To you it's scary to people who are deep he is just very real. You are just afraid of drowning in deep water.
@@rosedaddona4262 I can swim just fine thanks in my own deep water, full of sharks and poisonous jellyfish lol. Depth of character has nothing to do with it...he looks utterly miserable. I am a massive Jerry Lewis fan but he is not in a good place in this video.
This guy was famous at one time ? For what? He soiled his own legacy by the treatment of women and his family. That’s a shame. He fooled a lot of people until the last years of his life. His colors really showed.
I do not have enough information to make a decision on the Family situation and if I did who would care about my opinion? I can tell you this through MDA he made countless lives better for Families and Children dealing with Muscular Dystrophy. So if we are going to hold up a measuring stick on overall life performance and making people suffer less and contributions to society few have a longer yardstick than Jerry Lewis and nobody ever heard of me. Bless.
Thats it! Dean said “People told Jerry “you’re like another Chaplin” when he started to believe it, things were NEVER the same again between us”. Another thing is from their film stardom in ‘49 til this point, he never ever heard the word “no”. He’s used to getting what he wants, when he wants, and how he wants. Something like that doesn’t make u humble, modest etc.
He was a very moody individual even his sons said when he came home from work they never knew what kind of mood he was in.Cutting his sons out of his wiil WHY lots of problems there .What yu see in these interviews is not the real Jerry Lewis but a man who thinks very highly of himself with an ego size of Mt.Everest.Its sad but I guesse that's what fame and money does to yu .
Before he teamed up with Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis' act consisted of miming to records. But to hear Jerry talk, he was the creative genius behind the team. Granted Lewis was funny, at times, but without Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis would never have achieved the fame that he did. And for the record, it was Dean and not Jerry that broke up the act. Dean admitted to a BBC interviewer that he had grown tired of acting in the Hal Wallis movies where his role was reduced to just a few songs and acting in order to make more room for Jerry. ( I wonder whose idea that was?)
Dear Mark- thanks for your comment. We shot this interview for a 1996 Biography of Jerry, narrated by Alan King. Here is a link to it- hope that you like it: ua-cam.com/video/1VA13r1-MVM/v-deo.html
It was Jerry who left Dean. When Dean told him "you can talk about love all you want but to me you are just the fucking dollar sign". Dean got carried away by whoever slipped between them and divided them. If they hadn't let anyone in between them and if Dean had been able to communicate better they wouldn't have broken up like that. They no longer communicated and it hurts so much to think so.
and Jerry was the mastermind of the duo. Jerry wrote the skits, took care of the financial side while Dean played golf. Dean protected Jerry from everything else. Jerry was the mind, Dean was the armand when they met Jerry was only 19 and already earning good money. Dean was 28 and in debt. Shortly thereafter, he had to file for bankruptcy.
10:18 "People that are maligned or demeaned and have no recourse." Like the well-intentioned young Hollywood Reporter journalist Lewis contemptuously cold-shouldered and dehumanized for an entire interview in 2016.
He was an amazing talent! His private life shouldn't be your business! He created magic for people! He made kids laugh for generation! He helped kids in needs and was a pioneer in the film industry! THAT is what we should talk about, not his personality . You shouldn't laugh about a person's character! Would you like for someone to do that to you? Or are you so perfect that people wouldn't have anything rude to say about you?? LOL Your comment towards JL is extremely rude!
He’s was in a driffrent world he watched his kids be treated like crap he didn’t care he protects every one except his kids he left them out of his world
But why do him and Frank have to tell over and over how they got sammy out of the dressing rooms into the hotels over and over...just do whatever is right u don't have to brag about it
Hey, it's "whom", ok? AHAHA! Ok, let's count... Corinne Calvet, Marion Marshall, Anna Maria Alberghetti, Stella Stevens... but a lot of those and other actresses then were consensual bedfellows of Jerry- just like Dino, Frank and Sammy...
He has the deadest eyes, no warmth & at the start he's weighing her up & assessing the heck out of her ( as a person, not for any sexual reason, it's not that kind of look). I think he's quite an unhappy man. He reminds me of 50's comedian Tony Hancock, who could be a really mean drunk.
She busted him on the story about his grandma lol. "I didn't start saying goodnight grandma until I was in TV. And I did it only because it brought her days of adulation and joy from the people saw it on TV." Interviewer: But she was dead before you went on TV. Jerry: "Uh, it's very complicated. We play acted at home a lot [chew chew chew] and I performed at local synagogues and I said goodnight grandma and everyone would send her flowers." OMG what a stupid way to try and explain himself without admitting that he was misremembering. Or possibly lying.
And he wrote all his children (boys) out of his will ... they got nothing. To do such a thing is to show intentional meanness. Somewhere along the way, he got pretty nasty.
You can't judge, you don't know what happened between him, and his first family. How can you say that he got nasty, did you know the man and his family?
Everyone who knew this man said he was a horrible person and a human excrement, no one had anything nice to say about him, his own kids and family couldn't stand him. He basically disowned his own kids
I don't know what it is about comedians! Fame makes them see themselves as philosophers, kinda like a gymnast imagining herself to be a great chef after gaining fame in the Olympics. It happens to most of them... J. Lewis, Eddie Murphy, Dave Chappelle, Richard Pryor... They start spouting life lessons as if anyone cares about anything they have to say except the jokes they tell.
He is full of his own importance, and to be honest he was mediocre entertainer, his arrogance is obvious, I read he had gathered 50 million Dollars when he died, and gave his kids ZERO nice man NOT !!!! Delusions of Grandeur.
George Lynch he wasn’t a mediocre performer… And his day he was the top of the top. Don’t diminish who he was because she don’t like this interview. Jerry had a very complex personality which most times came off as arrogant, rude, condescending, and filled with ego. All of that was to mask what he really felt about himself which was low self-esteem and self doubt. While Jerry Lewis was not the nicest man in real life at all times you cannot diminish his talent, abilities and his contribution to the filmmaking process in Hollywood as a whole. He obviously didn’t like the interview were here and was not happy with the circumstance but did the interview anyway… which was a mistake. Often times he comes off like an ass… Evidence again in this interview..
Respectfully: might not like his personality and the scent of you but you should do your research on his career from 1947-66 He was never a mediocre talent. Producer, director, inventor, comedian etc. I understand personal feelings toward what you see on the surface after the fact. But he did great things in his day. I hope that you take a moment and look back.
He might not have been a nice guy but he was a pure talent. His influence was massive..in comedy, cinematography, directing and with his charity work. He did some rubbish work, truly poor and unfunny...but....he did some of the tightest, sharpest, funniest performances too.
George Lynch Why do you feel the need to give an opinion? Who asked you? You have some misinformation. If you like to take the time, do some research on Jerry and have the press treated him And the fued that he had with them over the years. What you’re seeing is a very hard exterior hiding a very hurt little kid. His family business, his estate, his business dealings and how he conducted himself is none of our business. You are wrong about the amount and you have no idea how families work, the dynamics, politics and history.
This interviewer went on for too long about "We will review all the tape and cut out what you don't like". Now, come on, have some guts. I see that many interviewers of Jerry know that he is tough and can be mean but that's Jerry. You will not get respect from a guy like that by coming off too nice as he will think, and know, that it's fake. Of course there is a risk that he will make you stop rolling tape BUT, at least, you did not totally surrender.
@@Stephensorrentino Ego Stephen. Not low self esteem and fear. He had a bad reputation for being an ass-hole. Bing Crosby did not dislike anybody, but Jerry he could not stand.
Robert A. Lofgren Jr. Robert, that would be a Lehman’s observation. Because I knew Jerry Lewis and was a neighbor and friend, and knew his backstory, and spend time on this exact subject with him… I think that my observation is pretty clear. @@Stephensorrentino Okay Stephen, I take your word on what you say. You knew him personally as a friend and neighbor and I and many other comment folks who did not know this man but we're judging him on his attitude in this interview. Thank you for responding back sir.
I have always adored Jerry, and I have heard countless times that he had a huge ego. I think, I would not care a twit about this man, or love to hear him talk, if he did not have a huge ego. He is a special person in so many ways, not the least of which is his wit, his humor, his articulateness. He was a high school dropout. Self-educated, one who lived life to the fullest and gave the world so much. If anyone deserves a huge ego, he does. Yet I see in the midst of what others call a huge ego simplistic humility and honesty. He just openly speaks about what he knows. I have watched every interview of him on youtube and never grow tired of him. I doubt I could listen to any of his dissenters for two minutes without yawning.
cubomania3, Yes because you know instead! You are also calling another person idiot only because she disagrees with you! Do you really think that you are a better person?? People should stop judging others and examine their life instead!
I always loved Jerry! But….He got caught out big time here about the story of his Grandma watching him on Tv & then receiving accolades & flowers from her neighbours?? 😮but the interviewer was baffled as she said, but your Grandma died when you were 11 years old & you were not on Tv while she was alive???😮 He then proceeded to dig himself out of a hole! & backtrack what he had said!!… this actually made me realise Jerry is a bit of a fabricator or exaggerator 😮 WOW he can really talk!!
Lewis is very hard to understand and the reason is most likely that he was undiagnosed bipolar. He shows all the outward signs. People expect him to be perfect. He brought great joy to millions for decades. So if he was a bit of an asshole in his private life, maybe that's just the price that had to be paid.
I was a great fan, and as a teen collected money for his telethon! But when I was at a Longs drug store in Southern California, there he was sitting on boxes of soda! I couldn't talk, and was tapping my boyfriend to look up, but my boyfriend didn't look and walked away. Jerry ran away from me, and finaly I yelled that was Jerry Lewis. My boyfriend said no way, but I said listen to his voice. He told me to go say hi, but I was scared. I waited in an isle Jerry was going to pass, but another fan stopped him and asked for an autograph. Jerry said no cuz people mall me, but the store was pretty empty. When Jerry passed my isle, I said hi Jerry, HE IGNORED ME AND HID BEHIND THE CASH REGISTER COUNTER! I was devastated! I was crying and my boyfriend felt really bad so he tried pulling up to Jerry's van but I was ignored again. I'm still heartbroken and it's been over 20 yrs. He says on here he loved people, well I'm one and he wouldn't even say hi. We love our stars but we don't get love back. Without fans, stars wouldn't even exist. All I wanted was to be his fan.
Is this the ultimate proof of what my father used to say, "There is nothing more important than sincerity...once you learn to fake sincerity, you have it made"? Or is this the real McCoy?
He dumped his wife, the mother of his sons and gave her very little money in the divorce. One of his sons committed suicide and he disinherited the rest. His second wife and adopted daughter inherited everything. Comic genius but a horrible man.
People are really complicated. He might have been totally deluded in how he saw himself as a knight in shining armor for victims, but I loved his movies anyway. Like Woody Allen, he may have been a perv, but I still love his movies for the most part.
A great man and I love him. You critics - did you hear the part about him helping Sammy Davis Jr. and his family get treated with dignity? A flawed man, just like you and me.
Wonder if he went to JFK inauguration like Sinatra did. Dean Martin refused to go as Sammy was not allowed with his white wife. Dean is the one that did things without fanfare.
Cyril Walsh, strange! Because I feel the total opposite! Maybe because I look a little deeper! I see a man who uses a mask to defend himself from the trauma he endured. I see a man who loved others and did everything possible to make people laugh and also to be accepted by others. I see a man whom was insecure yet so brilliant. I see a man who never received the love he deserved, but gave it to others instead at the expense of his own health! Unfortunately traumas never go completely away and because of those we make mistakes! However, he tried to change all of that suffering and sorrow into something kind and useful! He made mistakes? Well we all do!! That's not Karma what you are talking about it is just judging a book by its cover. Thank God there are other people in this world who go a little deeper than that and have some compassion! R.I.P Jer
Many gifted comics are deadly serious off camera and are typically unhappy, angry, tortured souls. Freud’s insights about humor were spot on. In Jerry’s case, he was abandoned by both his parents, which had to be a psychic wound he carried throughout his life. I get it.
@@BlackAbe007 I know. Sick man. He, himself, became like the bad parents who abandoned him. It’s a sad, all-too common phenomenon that people sometimes turn out to be the cruel, narcissistic parents who they, themselves, endured.
Jerry has so many versions of how he met Dean. It’s always him who comes up with act, writes it up, etc. Jerry just didn’t care about the truth. Jerry only cared about himself. Dean left Jerry. Jerry told people that for years. Then, he suddenly, years later, said that he was the one who left. Don’t believe him. He was a very angry, mean user.
This all sounds like he was a saint but I have seen another side of him. My wife and I went to see him the South Shore Music Circus, in Cohasset Massachusetts, many, many years ago. We were expecting a great show but he walked off the stage after about 35 minutes. I heard later that someone had pissed him off and he left the audience hanging. I guess the "them" were ignore on that night and the "I" took over. We were all upset at the shortness of the show.
The stage and screen Jerry vs the behind the screens/director and business person Jerry are very very different individuals. In other words the character and the actual person are completely different. I like them both for what they represent. Yes, comes across arrogant but he is really kind and honest...brutally honest...and a big supporter of all who work with him and around him. Interesting how he was talking about getting rid of racism back in the 1950’s but here we are still trying to get rid of it now. Dang...we suck as a nation perpetuating hate. Come on....let’s get rid of hate everyone....once and for all.
He is so full of himself and the interviewer is giving him softball questions to make him seem heroic. It is amazing how the truth came out after his death. This self serving and pompous man speaks about himself in heroic terms but treated his own sons likes dogs.
I have never liked this guy, and I think he had a scrambled mind, but his story about how he got black performers to be able to eat in the restaurant and move through the hotel was touching, even though my fundamental dislike of him and distrust of him makes it hard for me to believe him, he's just that disturbed.
The ''efficiency expert'' that Mr Lewis was taking about. They removed a ''watchman'' but, the interview changed direction before he could say what paramount did. Did they give they give the watchman his job back if you know. Sorry for my ignorance if not knowing this. I love the interview, thank you for posting. x
You definitely can. He was 70 here and this was right around the time when he was dealing with very serious back pain, which he sadly continued to deal with for the rest of his life. Back pain is no joke.
Suggestion. Having listened and watched to a number of interviews with Jerry. It would appear that he was taking the Mickey out of the interviewer. Talk in about his kids and how, he had 5his fantastic rapport with them. How fantastic Pattie was as a mother and wife. Honestly, it’s a bit like the nutty Professor, Dr. Jackal and Mr. Hyde. How he marvelled at her understanding about religion. Pattie did could not provide the Children with a normal Jewish childhood and upbringing, She had no understanding of either Hebrew or Yiddish. and the kids were not Jewish. They grew up with Hanukkah Bushes (Christmas Trees) in the living room, a fact with most mixed marriages in LA and there were many of them in LA and it’s still common today. The point is that Jerry seems to be taking the Mickey out of all of them. We don’t know why heft the children out of the will. Did they all follow Catholicism, as all but one was Baptised. Were all the boys Circumcised? He talks about the girls brought home to visit, We’re they Jewish? The spell check won’t allow Yiddish. A lot of critics herein,

He had trusts set up for all his children except the one who spoke badly of him on hard copy or inside edition. He wouldn't allow anyone to betray him twice. I thought he was a jerk, more I learn about him my assumptions are the same Jerry was a gifted asshole
His son was more talented than him. He was jealous of Gary and Dean.
A creep , lost all respect for him ,look him up 🤮🤮🤮
Excuse me Mr. Lewis could you spit out your gum before we start?

That’s his way of being an arrogant ass!
His kids can describe what a loving father he was.
They describe him as a monster behind closed doors.
@@hawkeye5829 I know. He disinherited them for no apparent reason also.

@@samsprague2846Probably for disloyalty. I think they sided with their mom during the divorce.
That's call The Blue Flu or THE Chill in probably all jobs.

that's nonsense Lewis never sexually harassed anyone
Jerry often treated the people who worked for him like crap. He was arrogant, nasty to hired help and delusional about his stated humanity. That doesn't take away from his comedic and entertainment genius. Bottom line, he was a talented asshole.
I don't think there's a big enough shovel to handle all that shit.

The last 20 years of his life it was hard to believe he was a comedian--he was always in such a bad mood.
Always had the other side. Most comedians do. It's just when he got older he didn't have to worry about being punished for it.
Its diabetes.
Sad but true. Towards the end he certainly reflected a lot of anger & bitterness.

His big solo pictures, like the Patsy, Cinderfella, Disorderly Orderly... pure gold.
You can say that again! He could pass for a man of 50 during this interview!!
Uncle Harry, agreed! Jerry aged very well and I think he always looked about 10 years younger than he actually was. Now compare Jerry at 70 to Dean Martin at 70. Jerry aged a whole lot better.
He such a protector of his kids that he took them out of his will and made a point to make it known. What a prick.
They likely got a huge amount from what their mom got from the divorce.
This is so dark. Looks completely soured on life.
His cheerful soul died after breaking up with Dean Martin in my opinion. It was destroyed inside.

He comes across as very arrogant
I do not have enough information to make a decision on the Family situation and if I did who would care about my opinion? I can tell you this through MDA he made countless lives better for Families and Children dealing with Muscular Dystrophy. So if we are going to hold up a measuring stick on overall life performance and making people suffer less and contributions to society few have a longer yardstick than Jerry Lewis and nobody ever heard of me. As hilarious as he thought he was , he was most hilarious when he consistently boasted about his genius .
Nothing this man ever said or did caused me to crack a smile.
Made me smile when he died
Chacun à son goût.
When people tell you how great you are year after year, you really believe it.
So exactly true. Give him every well deserved positive accolade for sure but he definitely comes across as quite a horse's ass.
saying he gave Sammy pointers startuing out? I seriously dont think so.
Dean went on to do some acting in movies like, 'Wreaking Crew' after a lull in his career no?
DEAN GAVE his first wife the home and money, always took care of her mother. Dean was devastated when HIS son died.
After what has come out this year on the sexual abuse this guy dished out...it's hard to believe he really cared about those who had been demeaned.

Dean Martin that is how.

Lol 😁
And he wrote all his children (boys) out of his will ... they got nothing. To do such a thing is to show intentional meanness. Somewhere along the way, he got pretty nasty.
You can't judge, you don't know what happened between him, and his first family. How can you say that he got nasty, did you know the man and his family?
They got left the rights to all of his works.

Respectfully: might not like his personality and the scent of you but you should do your research on his career from 1947-66

Stephen Sorrentino Well he's covering up low self esteem quite well. Nah- he's an ass.

He's lying about helping Sammy. That was Sinatra.
Rob Denaro That’s so well documented that it’s hard to believe that Jerry would try and claim the credit.

Many gifted comics are deadly serious off camera and are typically unhappy, angry, tortured souls. Freud’s insights about humor were spot on. In Jerry’s case, he was abandoned by both his parents, which had to be a psychic wound he carried throughout his life. I get it.
So that’s why he disowned his Own Children...
@@BlackAbe007
I know. Sick man. He, himself, became like the bad parents who abandoned him. It’s a sad, all-too common phenomenon that people sometimes turn out to be the cruel, narcissistic parents who they, themselves, endured.
I get it too. Plus his own children sued him for money. That hurt him. Bad mistake. His children weren’t innocent either. They lashed out.
This man's ego is off the chart. He is sanctimonious self important and he believes his own press. Humility is not in his repertoire.
Lots of people have had hard lives but they don't become sexual deviants and rapists because of it. Jerry did.
Don Diego Vega - did you know Jerry and/or Dean? Would love to hear your story.

Hyde. A lot of critics herein,
Jerry says "I've always had the need to do for others." ...Ahh unless they were his biological children ??
@chief tp Precisely! Thanks!
No kidding....
@@ian1856 that is a lie
Pete c,people shouldnt judge the decision jerry made ,neglecting his kids.he must of had valid reasons.he couldnt be that evil, being he never deprived his 2nd wife and daughter.
@@cacatr4495 ,how come in the interview anthony lewis stated he wished he could have one more time with his father, and tell him he loved him?if jerry lewis was so evil, how come he never deprived his 2nd wife and daughter.all these interviews doesnt diminish my opinions of jerry.theres one thing jerry wasnt,a mass murderer.im not here to judge his personal decisions.as i stated previously, jerry must have had valid reasons for his decisions.as a fan who saw jerry perform solo in numerous live concerts, i expected to be entertained.jerry exceeded those expectations.jerry should be remembered as a great entertainer and great humanitarian.there must be reasons why millions of people adored jerry.
He was a nasty human being.
Just curious how he could cut out the 5 surviving sons. He was supposedly very close to his son Chris. I am astonished.
He diminished many people in interviews. Just don't like him.
Sue prov, its really difficult to judge why jerry lewis neglected his kids.he must have had valid reasons why he did this.he couldnt be that evil,if he took care of his 2nd wife and daughter.we should remember jerry as a great entertainer and great humanitarian.his personal life was his own.
@@robertr8386 I agree and also disagree. I agree he definitely had the right to do what he wanted. He did incredible work with MS and he was a wonderful entertainer with immense talent. Obviously it's not my family. I did have years of difficulty with my dad and now we have been able to connect beautifully. It's a gift for both of us. So I guess it's just hard to understand and also as you said really not my business. I wish everyone peace with it.
@@SueProv ,i commend you on your response.all i was stating was ,the public has no clue why jerry reacted this way.one thing he wasnt,a mass murderer.its very easy to judge someone not knowing the truth.do you agree,to some extent.all these comments regarding jerry, are only speculations.
@@robertr8386 I do agree we can't know unless someone like his lawyer 2nd wife or someone like that makes a statement. Have a good weekend
@@robertr8386 he use to beat his sons. Not sure why you are defending such a arrogant guy just because he was a decent comedian of that era. As a person he was vile.
He was a bully. Nothing dear about him, the amount of women he abused speaks volumes.
I think some of Jerry Lewis's problem was that the man loved to eat pills especially amphetamines he even told lots of stories how he would joke around and Spike people's drinks with all sorts of stuff
He got caught in a lie in that story about his grandma. He was weaving a story about him being so wonderful to her, and it all came undone. Haha
THANKYOU LUKE FOR YOUR MESSAGE, AT MOMENT I NOT GOT a facebook as a friend of my daughter a work colleague set my tablet up for me and did not put my proper details in so my original details tablet won,t accept , I,m really pleased Jerry has lots of fans and all day I have been thinking of him hoping he has enjoyed his day lots of lovexxx
Hi Maggie! Sure thing as to Facebook... drop a friend req off any old time...
and Happy St. Patrick's Day! :)
Being a child of NYC, this video really made me laugh:

It's a bit reverential , but this is one of the best interviews of a Lewis I've ever seen. Who's the woman? She seems very knowledgable.
We are the company that shot this interview.
I am Luke Sacher, the videographer-
Carole Langer is the DuPont-Columbia Silver Baton winning interviewer and producer/director.
You can find us both on the iMDB.
Thanks for tuning in and for your kind comment!
Here's the 1996 bio of Jerry that we produced- Alan King narrates:

@@soapbxprod - pardon me but is the interviewer reflected in the mirror? By her headdress it appears she's a nun?
@@bethanyanderson1745 very funny, but i dont think thats a real person. not sure what it is
@loupasternak - you're correct. That "nun" never moved or blinked. Lol. Must have been a late night when I wrote that post. Chuckle.
Based on the couple of minutes that I rewatched, I wonder if it's the control panel to an appliance? You know how our brains are wired to find /create faces... I actually wasn't attempting to be humorous- wouldn't dare to try on a Jerry Lewis video.
69 or 70 y.o. in this video... amazing.
I met Jerry through my role in the media. He was no clown in real life - he was as smart as a whip.
Love Jerry Lewis ❤
This tells me he didn't cut his own kids out of his living will.
His new wife must of paid a dirty judge & Lawyer to have his will burnt & rewritten to look like his money was all going to her & her daughter.
Listen closely Jerry says here hes real protective of people 12:00 & people he works with 8:20 and " **"his own children"**14:09
Stated doesn't like people bullied.
@TheBrabon1 Only half true.
@@soapbxprod And how do you know????
Very arrogant and stand-off ish here…. And he was not in real life the funny person he portrayed on screen. He was abusive to his staff, his family, and he specifically left NOTHING in his will to his 3 sons. I believe the daughter or step daughter of his second marriage got everything. How horrible….
No one had a higher estimation of himself than Jerry
did. Maybe it was necessary.
He wanted to be the Sinatra of comedy- Dino had both their numbers... all he wanted was "nice and easy does it"
@@soapbxprod - did you work with Dean Martin?
I couldn’t listen to this smug arrogant ass hole!
I see a lot of saddness in his eyes and his voice at times throughout 10 to 12 mins, alot of people who makes us laugh have a lot of inner demons x

...hello....is there anyone in there?
Would you like us to go away...?
No one person is all bad obviously he had good points to him. However, his treatment of his wife and many of his children and women in general has no excuse. Charity begins at home
Jerry: I always treated my crew with respect, knew their names
Also Jerry: Barks at cameraman, "are you going to be that loose", no eye contact, no name
I was the cameraman... I was 35 at the time and a fairly seasoned veteran- but I took it gladly. Jerry was one of my heroes. He came from my dad's generation. By the end of the day, he and I got along great. He was just testing me, sussing me out. And I was honored. If he'd thought I was an incompetent, he wouldn't have wasted his breath.
He wasn’t barking lol. He could bark but that’s not it.
@@soapbxprod ,jerry lewis was considered a perfectionist.there was nothing he couldnt accomplish in showbusiness.a great entertainer and a great humanitarian.whats wrong with those accomplishments?no one should judge his personal decisions.he must have had valid reasons why he made those decisions.he couldnt be that evil, being he didnt deprive his 2nd wife and daughter.
@Fuzzy Butkus ,i am proposing a question.if jerry was such an evil person, then why didnt he deprive his second wife and daughter?
@@NoBody11010 ,there must have been valid reasons for depriving his first wife and 6 sons.for such a terrible husband and father, they all wanted his money.there are two sides of the story.jerry showed great character when he never neglected his 2nd wife and his adopted daughter.
All the people saying how wonderful and talented...dont seem to realize this guy was a horrible person. He sexually abused women, and treated his kids like dirt
Interesting that swallow minds are not able to see what a lifetime in show biz can do to people like Jerry. I can only imagine what it would be like to put up with stupid journalist and fake news. I'm sure that when he started in this career he had no clue the ugliness that lies within. He comes off as arrogant but I see it more like sick and tired of dealing with journalists and the paparazzi.
JD, I agree! And just look at how many nasty comments coming from simple minded people, the same ones that Jerry couldn't stand! Haters who judge a book by its cover and the only thing that they ever read in their life is the national enquirer! Appalling!
J D Your an "Idiot"!!!! This guy was overrated and a douchebag!!!! Tried to make people "believe" he cared about children with that fucking telethon year after year then disinherited his own children leaving them nothing!!!! Yeah this guy was NEVER "Nice"!!!! He sure fooled a lot of people though!!!!
Way over 90% of people using the internet are mentally retarded fucktards who are full of hate and envy towards people who dedicated their whole life in their art, craft of science. In real life they have no value, that is why they use fake names and pictures (if any). In real world they are bigtime losers, some overweight uneducated alcohol or junk food addicts with no real life and their hobby is sitting all day long on a couch drinking bear or smoking dope making political, social, scientific, historic etc statements while they can hardly read and write. Its an international desease. George Carlin predicted this 20 years ago.
I think it's so disrespectful for males not to look at females when we're talking. See how he is? My civilian Doctor does that. I will ask him why he does that... at my next appt.
TURN THE VOLUME LEVEL UP YOU CAN'T EVEN HEAR THE STUPID THING.

Sadness in his eyes.
He is in physical pain.
He stands up to take a pillow for his back....
