The original game came out in 2010. The developers said you can play this one without playing its predecessors, but just in case you want to know what is going on, and all of the relevant background info, I had ChatGPT make me a summary (I personally watched a 1.5 hour video, but I think this'll be easier)
In Alan Wake (2010), you play as Alan Wake, a famous author who goes to the town of Bright Falls with his wife, Alice, to overcome writer's block. Alice goes missing, and Alan finds pages of a manuscript he doesn’t remember writing. The events in the manuscript start coming true. Alan learns about the Dark Presence, an evil force trapped under Cauldron Lake that can control people through their fears. Light is the only weapon against it, so Alan uses light sources to fight off the possessed people called the Taken. To save Alice, Alan writes himself into the story, trapping himself in an alternate dimension called the Dark Place.
In Alan Wake's American Nightmare (2012), Alan is still trapped in the Dark Place and battles his evil doppelgänger, Mr. Scratch, using fiction to change reality and temporarily defeat him.
Control (2019) and its AWE expansion (2020) introduce the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC), a secret agency investigating paranormal activities. Jesse Faden, the new Director of the FBC, explores their headquarters, the Oldest House. Her twin brother was kidnapped by this organization when they were children because they came into contact with otherworldly forces. The AWE expansion reveals that the events in Alan Wake are considered an "Altered World Event" by the FBC. Jesse discovers that the Dark Presence is still active and encounters Dr. Emil Hartman, transformed into a monster by the Dark Presence.

04:26:00 When Sam Lake was writing the script for this short film, he did write Casey to be fully naked, mirroring how Nightingale emerged from Cauldron Lake naked.
As the day for the filming arrived, Lake got VERY nervous about having to act that. So he approached Ansii Matta (live action director) and asked him if the character HAS to be naked. Matta reminded him that, "YOU wrote it!". Lake went" oh I was in writing mode and just didn't think it through". Matta was like, "yeah, of course. You wrote it, so you can just change it. I don't care" lol.
