    Hi Andy, I just got my ESS Victron system up and running, ive been busy with it for weeks.
    Today was the last piece of the puzzle... seeing if the battery ( soon to be battery's ) is charging when the sun hits the PV panels, and it did !
    So thank you for all your effort, information and details that I had a bit of a direction to work with. It made it all the better to understand.
    Sadly the last 2weeks are horrible regarding sunshine, and this week is not going to be any better here in The Netherlands.
    The ground is fully absorbed with water, emergency waterpumps are being installed all over the country, it's what we call Pumping or Drowning !

    I changed the settings for when my 4 JK BMS's start to 3.45 and what a difference it has made in last week. All my cells are staying closer to each other now. .005-.008 when I hit 3.4 per cell. It used to be .010-.040 SO i do agree with you and thank you for showing me why. Love ya Andy like a brother. You have made me understand why many times and saved me a lot of testing etc..

    My two Gobelpower PC200 DIY Batteries with 5A active balancer, which I have ordered at 26th August, have arrived this week. They have been placed in front of my shed while I was on a business trip. I have taken them into the shed today and opened one box and took the battery out, cells are all about 3,23V which looks good. 😊
    So I currently don't need any more batteries but I will check if I got the EVE cells or the REPT cells like the current Basic batteries. 😉
    The Basic seems to be the replacement for the GP-DIY-KIT I got. The name DIY was not really fitting, because the battery is completly assembled, so Basic fits better.
    I think I will just add a switch to the 5A active balancer to make it switchable. Maybe I will use such a mentioned voltage detection controller, but I think it is not necessary. Manually switching on the balancer only if necessary should do the job.

    • @Lana_Warwick
      @Lana_Warwick 10 місяців тому

      10 weeks from order. I ordered 19 Sep, didn't leave their factory until 20 Oct, currently at sea, presumably, their tracking is shiet.

    • @OffGridGarageAustralia
      @OffGridGarageAustralia  10 місяців тому

      Yeah, the 'Basic' name is now much better than calling it DIY as before. I would have ordered the Basic version as well. Considering the active balancer it has, there is no problem with any of the cells.
      You still have to take out the metal mounting plate for the BMS to get to the balancer and solder the two wires on the run pads. It's very tight space.
      You can upgrade to an A30 at any time then.

    Good morning dear friend,
    Let me first congratulate you on the quality of your recordings. You are truly a highly qualified teacher, which is not insignificant.
    I would not like to abuse your time which I believe is very valuable. but if it were possible, I would just like a little clarification on a project that is close to my heart.
    I am in the process of equipping my motorhome with two 12V-280Amp LiFePo4 battery modules.
    I still don't know to this day if I should put the model:
    Active Equalizer, Lifepo4 4s Group Balancer
    Or:
    NEEY Smart Active Balancer 4TH 4A BMS, 4S Lifepo4 Battery.
    I would be really happy to have a response from you.
    your videos are wonderful.
    Best regards to you.

    • @OffGridGarageAustralia
      @OffGridGarageAustralia  10 місяців тому

      G'Day Dominic.
      Thanks for your very kind feedback and question. Do you need an active balancer at all?
      I would fully charge the batteries you have and watch the voltage delta across all 4 cells. Once you charge to 13.8V you will see them start spreading. Slowly increase charging voltage and watch the cell voltages. If you can charge to 14.2V without one cell going over 3.65V, you battery is probably fine and does not need an active balancer. It depends what BMS you have installed and if it is enough to balance your pack.
      The NEEY is not able to run from a 12V battery and needs a separate power supply, a step-up voltage converter. It needs at least 28V to work reliably.

    I got lucky, and was mining Bitcoin when you could do it on a single core processor laptop, at the beginning, I bought many Bitcoins for ten dollars a piece. Then built mining rigs, as that became required..I had 28 mining rigs in this garage I rented, in which electricity was included, It was a 600 amp service, and I pushed that to the limit, and the owner never said a word in 6 years, although he did own over 100 properties, residential and commercial, and the bills were probably paid automatically...When the price hit $52,000 I sold most of it, and sent that guy a check for $20,000, because I used much more electricity than I paid for rent, and slid under the radar some how...

    Hi Andy, I'd like to ask you for a topic that is hardly covered. I have an APC 3000VA uninterruptible power supply. It uses 8 12V sealed lead-acic batteries grouped in 4 parallel pairs to complete a 48V total, I'm experimenting feeding it with 16 LiFePo CATL 280Ah batteries managed using a Daly BMS. The idea is to use it for backing up for my home computer, monitor, switch and router as well as a few LED lights. The problem I found is that as opposed of what happens with the lead batteries, half of the time the ups shuts itself down when mains power gets cut. Also the battery level indicator (a 6 led bar) only shows 1 led as if the battery was almost discharged while the measured voltage out of the batteries is about 54V. Have you ever use a UPS in this manner?

    Hi Andy,
    Just a quick question about the temperature of the Neey.
    I noticed your Neey gets pretty warm (almost 60 degrees Celsius (25.46 in your video).
    My Neey sometimes even go over 60 degrees.
    Also i noticed that the active balancer in the JK BMS (the old one) does not get warm at all.
    Is 60 degrees, in your opinion acceptable? I am always afraid that the balancer can produce some fireworks one day, because of this temperatures.

    • @OffGridGarageAustralia

      That is totally fine. it measure the MOSFET temperature inside the NEEY. They can get hot during operation. 60° is actually cool for these chips. They can go to 100° without problems.

    The pack voltage is going down constantly as soon the charge current is lower then 2 Ampere.
    Is it correct, that the cell voltage is going down constantly to around 3,37 in one hour without any charge/discharge current?

    Hi Andy,
    can you receive Bluetooth from the NEEY Balancer when the housing is fully assembled and closed and the balancer is surrounded by metal on all sides?
    Isn't that the reason why the Bluetooth part of the Seplos is mounted behind the display (made of plastic).
    If I put the Neey in a closed metal housing, I can no longer get a BT connection, which is the reason why I mounted it outside on the top of the case..

    Congrats on the 3D Printer Andy...... You are joining at a relatively good time where most manufacturers have started sorting out their BS, even a year back you would have certain head aces...... So, a good time to join, 3D printer manufacturers have learned not to ship half finished products as they will get ragged by 3D printer reviewers as the guys have started to tell them, if you want to gag us and limit what we may or may not say then no review from us.... Still not perfect but a good time to join this community.

      I had some issues with this printer at the beginning. I took the hole print head apart to find the problem. It's more of an issue with the manual which does not give enough information about this important part when assembling.

      @@OffGridGarageAustralia people tend to modify their 3D Printers, once started it is hard to stop again. I had trouble with big prints as the print bed is not exactly flat which led to either prints coming lose, or the print nozzle not being able to extrude in some places as it was to close top the bed. PEI spring plate is a different print surface which is held in place with a magnet, can be easily removed and then bent top release the prints (which is very satisfying). But like said if everything works fine keep it like that as long as possible, the printer does a good job in stock form, esp. considering the build volume and pricepoint. I always recommend building something like a housing for the printer, as air drafts can show up or even ruin prints (more a problem when printing stuff like PETG or ASA/ABS).

    Is the 4A NEEY/Helltech balancing one cell at a time like you mentioned in your review of the 15A smart balancer , or all cells at once like capacitive? Which do you prefer if using a voltage trigger? Have yesterday been searching your library for a clue so this video helps. Also, Andy easy miss take on your first design.. The number one mistake new engineers make is allowing clearance for tool head eg socket to fit over bolt.

      The capacitive and transformer balancers balance all cells at the same time but balance current is dependent on voltage difference.
