2015 Ford Mustang | Trunk Release Not Working? Rear Camera Not Available?

- Hey guys so in this video I show you the solution to your 2015 Ford Mustang trunk release malfunction and or the “rear camera is unavailable” message on your dash when you shift into reverse.
You will need to manually release the trunk from the inside. It will be the green T handle on the trunk liner.
Once you do so, open the trunk and you can remove your trunk liner, so you have access to the trunk harness.
Cut off the existing tape/ wiring looms and pull off. Carefully not to cut into the wires.
Then you find the wire or wires that are either stripped or cut due to the factory plastic shielding. (At this point just throw away the plastic you don’t need it)
Then re-solder the wires and use heat shrink tubing.
Then you tidy everything back up and either install a plastic wiring tube which you can get from Harbor Freight or any hardware store
Then reinstall the liners and etc and you’re all done!

Thanks for watching!!
That was exactly what was wrong with mine. Thanks brother for the info. Great video.
Glad I could help
Thanks bro dope video
How did you manually open the trunk video please
You have to go through the rear back seats and crawl to the trunk
That would suck on a convertible since the seats don’t fold down.
@@eddiefalcon8316 actually I think there is a manual release behind the rear driver side cushions, just lift it up and use your master key to open it. Let me know if that’s actually true!!
@@mvmntgarage OMG you are right. I noticed two sets of wires one electrical and one mechanical and i checked and it’s there on the driver side back seat cushion. If you want pics let me know.
@@eddiefalcon8316 the thing is I don’t have the master key inside the fab it was never in there so I’m out of luck
There is a recall on this so you can get it repaired at no cost at a dealership
Dang I wish I knew, thanks for that
Yes we tried to get it in for the recall which was only given 2 months ago and they said they have no idea when the parts will be in 😭
@@michellechristian8028 yeah i have done this repair on a few and when the parts came in it was a few months wait time.
Will dealership still replace harness if I tried fixing it myself?
My truck won’t close, is this a symptom of this problem or something different
Yes it is most likely to be the problem, check for pinches in the harness
@@mvmntgarageI changed the latch , changed the fuses, took it to ford for the recall issue still no luck , what should I do next
Try to insert a screw driver into the latch to see if it catches and locks
My camera went out first, but now my trunk won’t release / open. Are these both related to the same wires? Thanks to anyone if they know!!
Yes they are both related if you go to your trunk and undo the wires hanging from the trunk lid you will see what pinched your wires,
Thanks for the quick response and uploading this video 👏
@@mvmntgarage would this affect your tag light as well?
@@valkyrie_voodoo not that I know of, it may supply power but I’m not entirely sure
One other place you may want to check is the connector at the camera. I did the tedious task of taking all the electrical tape off the wires and doing a pull test to find no broken wires. I then did a pull test on the wires at the camera plug and found that one of the pins had de-pinned itself in the plug. Firmly pushed that wire back into the plug and heard a click. I sprayed the camera connection and plug with contact cleaner while I was in there and now the camera works better than ever. I used to have to wait for the camera to come up on the screen, now it's instant.
Thanks! I did notice that when I replaced the deck lid panel that the small connector wasn’t secured in place to well.
What color was the wire that opened the trunk release
I believe it was the solid purple wire or the purple wire with the blue strip
@@mvmntgarage thanks i fixed my camera but the trunk still doesnt open. I willl go back and fix the purple wires again
Thank you for your video.
What gauge are these wires?
I believe these are 18ga wires
How do you get to the green T handle???
Unfortunately you have to climb through the back seat, it’s the only way.
Do I just have to do the extension work after checking the worn wiring?
Sorry for the late reply you can also take it to your local dealer, they have a recall out for this and they can do it for free
