He was "shopping with the mother" he told her that his wife would be arriving soon. Why she continued to believe him when he brought her a pair of stripper shoes he said he wanted to buy her 9/10 yr old daughter is beyond me.

He was waiting for his opportunity. I think he wanted to take her when she was in the dressing room but the mom was too close by. That's why he offered the McDonald's! He knew it was up front, away from mom, so he could walk right out with her.

This is fairly common at a trial involving this situation (sorry, I'm trying to avoid mention of the act and the charges, it's upsetting to anyone and I mean no harm, especially to a child). I've worked in search posses, my father was a reserve sheriff, my MIL and my SO were both officers of the court. My last trial was the murder of a school mate who was killed by her own son. He took a plea deal, and is now in prison. I went simply to hold her daughter who has now lost her entire family. This is a GREAT prosecution tactic. If you are a witness, you will always be prepped by council (never told what to say, but something like "Don't let them forget for one second this was a human being." ) And I have seen this get locked into a jury's mind. This is a person. This is a person no longer here. Never another birthday, never another Christmas. Never a class graduation. Never the moment when she takes her father's arm and he walks her down the aisle. Never will her parents hold their first Grandchild. And it is all true. I have seen whole galleries ('the audience') go down and me with them. Being on the stand is nearly impossible sometimes, and when opposing council comes at you, stand your ground and defend the person you are there for, the council you are testifying for will return to redirect you .... and then pretty much go to the restroom and throw up, bailiffs are very used to escorting you there. They are incredibly hard to get through.

If you watch the police interview with the mom, this case boils down to her going against her better judgement because she didn't want to appear rude or hurt this guy's feelings. She let her daughter go with this man because of that. I know society is all about being sensitive to others but when you are in a vulnerable position, screw a strangers feelings. If I'm alone and you approach me your feelings don't matter. I'm going to stay safe no matter what.

Be aware of your neighbors. I grew up when you knew everyone on your block. There is an astonishing moment when they become allies, if they have a relevant profession they will use it. And if you have an trial attorney or LEO on your block they will move the stars for you. I married into a courtroom family, I served as posse rider for the local SO, my father was a reserve deputy. We are here. We are your neighbors. We know your family and we will never leave you, even when that trial is over. My last trial (I went on to work in television) I became the media liaison for the daughter of a school friend who was murdered by her son (her brother). He ended up taking a plea deal, and rightly so because it was vicious and *I* nearly jumped the gallery rail at him. We'll be there.

We all make mistakes and it’s impossible to be a perfect parent, and even if you could be a “perfect” parent who’s to say that won’t cause it’s own issues down the line anyways? Overwhelmed by having 3 kids, trying to shop, a man sees her plight offers to help out. Against her better judgment she believed him. Who’s the monster, is it the mother needing a helping hand, or the guy who took advantage of her situation? Maybe instead of passing such harsh judgment we all could learn a lesson and try and help someone who may be in the same situation. We all make bad decisions sometimes and we walk away okay, and then sometimes it cost us dearly. This poor mother who named her child Cherish for a reason is going to hurt for the rest of her life. I understand this completely. But it’s wrong to try and put blame on the mother. She said she had a gut feeling. But that this man convinced her otherwise. Sometimes people are so good and lying they can get you to do anything. And that’s what this monster did. The mother was in need of help and he used that to his advantage. She also said she would never let her leave with a man or her sight but the McDonald’s was in the Walmart. It’s no excuse. But this man convinced her and her children that he was a good man just waiting for his wife. And even then. Sometimes it is extremely hard to say no to someone trying to be nice. Especially a man helping a woman because you feel that power over you. I understand what you are saying but please don’t make it seem like the mother is stupid and can’t raise children or protect her children. She made a mistake that cost her daughter her life yes, but trying to make her seem stupid or idiotic doesn’t help the fact that this woman lost her daughter. She knows she lost her daughter because she trusted a man. She knows she’s made a bad choice trusting him and not saying anything. But she needed help. And I like to believe everyone is good. The whole we are going for hamburgers thing was a tool the predator used. The child once she started to feel uncomfortable probably started to cry. He stopped to that car and said we are going for hamburgers to reassure the child of what he told her. Hence making her more manageable. He is vile. He knew how to mark his victim. He stalked the mom probably noticed she didnt keep her children close and used a benevolent gift and a story about his wife coming to disarm her. I will not judge the mom shes had her fair share I will just say predators like him can do a number on the smartest of us. God bless that little girl.

If we cannot come to a consensus with one another, it will just continue. On one side, you have the people who believe in reform. But, on the other, you have people who want to lock them up and throw away the key. I am the latter. I am autistic, so I chose not to have children. In the Walmart the mother's not paying any attention to her children. They're not even in the same aisle that she's in. As a mother I would never let my child out of my sight in a public place. This is crazy and horrible parenting. this type of thing was bound to happen to one of her children because she doesn't watch them.

I’ve worked in a library for almost 5 years now and you have no idea how much parents genuinely don’t watch their kids and don’t understand how leaving a young child in a public building is just asking for trouble.
We have had kids get assaulted, attempted kidnappings, adults touching themselves while in the same room as kids and yet still parents get upset when we tell them they have to take their kids, they can’t just leave them.
It makes me so angry but that little girl would still be alive and unharmed if her mother had an ounce of sense.

I’m my opinion this mom needs her head examined!!! I had 5 children mid 80’s to early 90’s never ever let them out of my sight. Even back then things happened… I just don’t understand how anyone could think that things (clothes, shoes) are more important than the safety of your children. She had absolutely no idea her precious daughter was missing for 20-30 minutes??? Yes that POS is an evil monster but she made it easy for him. I’m happy that the sisters have been given a better life with their aunt and get to know their oldest sister. This is a heartbreaking tragedy that never should’ve happened. The justice system failed this precious little girl. R.I.P. Cherish 😢

Don't judge her until you've walked in her shoes. When death comes knock you have no control- mark my words if he wanted one of your children I doubt you were super mom their entire childhood.
Cut her some slack and show her love and compassion there's enough pain as there is.

When my children were young it was in the time of Adam Walsh's kidnapping & murder (taken from a store, I believe). You can be sure my kids were never out of my sight when shopping. They always wanted to hang out in the toy department while I was shopping in other areas and were upset when I would tell them no! Now that they are grown with kids of their own they get it. Especially nowadays when things seem so much worse!

I live in PA and WIC does give you A LOT of milk, we ran through a ton & would have a half gallon left sometimes. I had my son when I was a teen & it went until he was 5, huge help. He knew to prey on these ppl, offering their kid things she can't afford. Tempting but no thanks, my son was happy with the toys I could get him until I graduated & could afford more.

At least here in Mexico, these monsters die in jail and they last a day at most. The police always put them inside in the cell with three inmates, so the next day they wake up hanged and dead.

I wish it was like that here but our system treats these monsters as if they deserve basic rights… this type of heinous crime should automatically make the p3do lose all rights. They should let him in a cell with the gayest most violent inmate so he can get railed every day until he dies from a ruptured butthole.

This bastard is a monster! He was smiling throughout the trial. I wonder how many kids he molested and murdered? This mother...what is wrong with her, letting those girls out of her sight, then handing the poor girl right over to her killer. This is so sad, it really sickens me, that there are so many killers of young kids. There is definitely a place in hell for these killers.
