Skylar doesn’t owe us anything; she’s not required to have a public Instagram, but I will say that it definitely made me sad to unfollow her. It felt like losing a friend, especially being that she always starts off with a “Hi, friends!” Made me super sad, but I understand her choice.

When I was 5 I was diagnosed with polyarthritis. Some people (those who would knock at your door to talk about their religion) came to my mom to tell her I was suffering so much because I was paying for my ancestors who didnt believed in god enought. I will genuinely miss Skylar's instagram! She was such a great account to follow. I loved her DIY's and her natural dyes etc. Of course seeing her life (kyle and milo especially) was lovely too but she owes the public nothing. I would hope that in time when she gets in a better headspace that she would consider making a public profile for her DIY's and any other things she deemed appropriate for that account and not too private. I have had bad experiences in the past with people digging into my social media's too much and then making fake accounts of me etc and that was so terrifying so I do not blame her AT ALL for wanting to step away from all of this. I know she said multiple times she didn't want to become an influencer but she is so likeable that she gained a following naturally. I have unfollowed her on Instagram of course. Thank you if anyone read any of this

I found Sierra about two years ago. I was in a horrible place. Horrible body image, mental health, etc. I saw you, Sierra, being so accepting of your body and being so loving to yourself and I was jealous and mad. I commented some things on your videos that absolutely have no excsue whatsoever. I was unnecessarily mean and hateful. But seeing more and more of your videos in my recommended, six months after finding your channel, your message hit me. I began my body positivity journey. I am so sorry for being hateful. I was one of the people that followed Skylar and unfollowed her when she asked. I really loved all her posts on baby Milo and her house renovation and decor posts were huge sources of inspiration. It made me sad to not be able to see that anymore, but I completely respect her decision. And my desire to share in her life will never be more important than her own comfort level.
I listened to the podcast on Apple podcasts but I wanted to comment on UA-cam because I do want to commend you for your bravery and vulnerability in this subject. I think a lot of people forget how figures on the internet are as human as they are. And even sometimes valid criticism is phrased in such an aggressive way because they forget that they’re speaking to another person. A lot of people defend their hate by saying it’s “their opinion.” But just because you have an opinion, it doesn’t mean it isn’t a hateful opinion. And it doesn’t mean you should share it online. Like even if I thought a photo of someone in my life was unflattering, I would never comment on that photo and say that I didn’t like the photo, even if that was my genuine opinion. So why do so many people feel comfortable doing that with Internet personalities? It must take such an emotional toll to deal with this constant attention and scrutiny all the time, and I thank you for continuing to provide a place of positivity where you speak out in things you believe in, even when you know you’ll get backlash. It is a pleasure to watch your videos and I hope you feel the love and that it is stronger than the hate.

If you filtered out everything about your personality, Sierra, then people would STILL try to critique something- “ew, get a personality”, “you literally don’t have any hobbies, get a life”. Just goes to show that no matter what you do, somebody’s going to detest it. Just because somebody doesn’t like you, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re doing something wrong. If you get a feeling that that criticism isn’t helpful or makes you a better person, then you can disregard it. PLEASE disregard it. Be the amazing, beautiful person you are!!!

I’m soooo happy that you posted this video. I’m sooo sorry that you girls have gone through this. It’s ridiculous and what’s crazy is we never know what even other youtubers have been going through especially with the drama channels ripping them apart. Some people just don’t think before the type.

I love listening to you both so much. Coming from a really small country town in the south you have both really opened my mind and heart up to a lot of things and filled my heart up. I always feel like I am just engaging in conversations with friends when I listen to the podcast. That is something I really have needed in my life lately and I’m so appreciative when I get to listen in on these discussions. I know you don’t know me at all but I feel like I know you both and you are both very dear to my heart. So I just wanted to say thank you so much for providing such a positive and inclusive place for me to go to and unwind and learn. ❤️

Sierra, I’m 53 yrs old- probably older than your own mom. BUT, your body positivity message has truly helped me, and resonated with me, and made a difference. I enjoy your content, and you “keep me company” many times. You know, your job May be the only type of job where a person can be subjected to truly unfiltered harassment. If someone treated me like that at my job, there would be repercussions, and I would be protected, whether the harasser is a coworker or a client. God bless you. He loves you and wants what’s best for you. And because of that, we know you deserve the best things in life. Peace.

49:02 I cried a little here too. I feel you, Sierra. irl, it took me a long time to realize that if I feel the need to hide away my personality around certain people then maybe that friendship/relationship ISNT WORTH IT. Because there have been so many people in my life who make me feel insecure about totally harmless personality traits like being a little loud, doing weird things like dancing around or singing randomly for fun, liking Kpop, to even things like talking candidly and boldly about things like sexuality, feminism, racism, etc. And that’s why I drop them 🤷🏽‍♀️ because at the end of the day, people who make u feel insecure for just being your true self are TOXIC and detract from your life. Love you both thanks for this great episode!

Lindsay DeFranco started the Not So Fast Campaign and it was originally a private account that should would let the public follow but keeping it private was an easy way to monitor what people say. And it also deters haters from following because it’s an extra step. I think it would be cool if when Skylar is ready (she may never be and that’s okay) made a private account for her fans to follow that she could post all her awesome DIY stuff on!

I heard that it takes 5 positive interactions to level out 1 negative interaction. Because we tend to harbor that comment within us and makes believing the positive comments harder. Also, I’ve been trying to educate myself about sustainability and the waste we create and it stressed me out so I had to start smaller and not obsess over everything!

Skylar, I love that you were able to make that decision and take control of your social media space. I can't imagine setting those boundaries was easy but you have to do whatever makes the most sense and is best for you and your little fam! It's also great hearing someones perspective who DOESNT want to be a social media influencer. I think a lot of people get caught up in the aesthetics and the perks that come along with that status and often don't stop to seriously reflect on the challenging aspects of being an influencer and how they personally may be able to manage that. This conversation is super interesting and I believe offers a different perspective for others who may be considering going down that path!

My dear sweet Skylar and Sierra, I love you both so much.
This one resonated with me big time. The urge to change something so quintessential to me, just to be likeable to more people is so real. It's this predicament of 'you either love it or hate it' while deep down you want people to love or at least like you. It's tough!

I love and respect you both so much. I’m extremely shy but you both have inspired me to finally start reaching out to connect with people. Just like you were saying at the end of the podcast, the easiest thing to do is share kindness. So I’ve been able to be less shy simply by reaching out to content creators to let them know how awesome they are, what I liked about the video, responding the their comments from the video. We are all connected and we would all be better served to remember this. Be kind!!

i really don't comment much, but I was definitely a silent appreciator of Sky's instagram! I will miss her but totally and completely understand why she made that decision for her family! I do not understand why people would start holding her to an "influencer" standard/responsibility when she never claimed to be one. Nonetheless, fully support that decision (even though I will miss her, thanks for the air fryer recommendation!) and so excited we will still get to see her on the podcast! And Sierra, I have been with you for almost a year and a half now, and looking back you have fully changed my life and liberated me from toxic cycles of dieting and feeling bad about myself (along with Carrie Dayton!). I didn't even realize the change until I looked back at my life the last year and a half and realized how free I was from worrying about whether or not I was too fat. I have the best relationship with food I have ever had, as well as the healthiest relationship with myself. And I can honestly say that was sparked because of you just existing as yourself here online. You are hands down my favorite person on this platform and please, don't let anybody dull your shine, because it is truly unique to everything else that I see on here, and that is beautiful. I truly thank you for being bold enough to be vulnerable and authentic online, because I and so many others are better for it. Sending love and peace to you both!

Sierra, don't ever listen to those people judging your hobbies and interests. I'm almost 30 years old, the first room I planned in my new house was the gaming/nerd room, and my profile pic is my Pokemon Shield avatar. Why should the ways we spend our free time ever matter as long as we are putting more happiness into the world? ❤

There are so many keyboard warriors out there who are quick to criticize everyone else that probably wouldn't say those things were they in front of you in person. This world has been so terribly full of hate and I really hope that things change for the better, but those negative comments cut like a knife. I would encourage you both to just continue to be yourselves. We'll never make everyone happy, so just do what makes you happy because the amount of people that you have made a positive impact on outweighs the negative comments that try to tear you down. {{{Hugs}}} to you both!
