    I actually feel sorry for “leading people to doom” guy. He wasn’t prepared to have a reasoned discussion about his beliefs. Don’t know if he was looking for a fight or what, but clearly he was overwhelmed by intelligent and kind conversation. Sad really. Caller was asking a perfectly legitimate hypothetical question which Seth wimped out on.
      Seth did what apologists do when they don't want to answer a question - they try to redirect and turn the question back on the asker.
      The question wasn't that great or useful, but no need for Seth to be so scared.

      This is a new approach theists try to shut atheists up.
      Caller was fishing for a sound bite.
      But please, what would your answer be and I'll tell you how I think any half educated theist can use your answer against you - not necessarily ina good way but that's not the point. Now don't wimp out on me.

      @@Cheepchipsable "Caller was asking a perfectly legitimate hypothetical question"
      Not really, the caller conveniently forgot that in the hypothetical context he created his god was a monster, yet in his own mind his god is basically the personification of love. There is an inherent contradiction in this question, and I think that is why he bailed out, it was about to be exposed.
      Do you seriously think that Seth, who has heard the question dozens of times, was a wimp not to address it? He said why he didn't give the answer the caller was wanting to hear, it was just a useless "gotcha" sound bite, and addressing the problems inherent to question itself was the right move.

      Or maybe feel bad about stealing so much of the little time we have on the planet? I will gladly March into hell if that's what the supreme, loving creator would do to me. Anything that would sentence it's most beloved creature to eternal misery and damnation is nothing that I would ever worship. If there's a god, he's a twisted sadist who loves to watch people suffer. 5:00 I had gotten a sermonizing like that before, just minus the statistician part. I asked the person doing that to me, "Have you ever played Telephone?" I got him to arrange his little group, and I got them to pass a message the guy chose without any input from me. Lo and behold, he was shocked to see just how different the message was by the time it got back around to him. I then said (or I guess "lectured" or "counter-sermonized" would be more accurate in this case):
    "This is what happens in a few minutes. Are you really trying to tell me that an anthology of books, at least half of which were never written until around when the Babylonians had enslaved the Hebrews - which also happens to be one of the very few things in their history before the Romans that has been verified to any reasonable extent - so before they were written, they were passed on in a manner identical to this game of Telephone? You are really going to tell me that not only did it stay unchanged over centuries, but then when we finally got to their writings, it was through interpreting interpretations of interpretations of translations of translations of multiple dead languages and dialects - and these distant vague interpretations all occurred individually by very few individuals isolated and locked in groupthink before they were finally compiled together and argued and extorted over what would be accepted? And this was all during when it was one of the highest crimes - or "sins," if you want to stick with your favorite terms - to learn how to read the Bible, let alone read it in something other than the dead language that is Latin. You are telling me that even with all of this going on, it remained unchanged and that this could not be imagined? I have two suggestions: either read any of the books arbitrarily chosen to NOT be included in the Bible...or watch Star Wars - and for the latter one, let me know how one person was not able to imagine this, or that said person could not draw from other things for guidelines."
    And if the Bible really is all true, and God really did have a plan that could not be violated or strayed from due to God being supposedly omniscient and omnipotent, then I either ended up going in exact accordance with God's plan so I did not really lead anyone to their doom - which also goes to show that God had *planned* to cast certain people to their doom from the very beginning, exposing him to be the biggest f^^^ing sadist ever - or God is nowhere as omniscient or omnipotent as Christians love to claim that he is, and if God is not...then what exactly is there to fear?
    Or, as Lewis Black once put it:
    "Then when God asks why I am going to Hell, I will say, 'I am going there *BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T MAKE ME PATIENT!'"*

    you trip for about 8-12 hours, and if you have a benzodiazepine like a xanax pill, you can "kill" the trip, meaning that in about 20 minutes you stop the hallucinations (that are mainly visual effects with somewhat of an emotional aspect to it). The funny thing about Pascal's wager is it doesn't account for gods like jesus who are jealous and send you to hell for picking wrong.
    So, much like the fermi paradox, the likely hood that you picked wrong and are going to a hell is nearly 100%, with the exception that you might already be there, assuming that a god is a possible outcome. How do you expect to win a game when you can't even comprehend the rules? There is no indication that a literal GOD is even possible because its logically inconsistent. Like a married batchlor or shrodinger's cat.

    Second caller... I have encountered this often enough that I reverse the question.. and while he glossed over it as applied to himself.. he completely ignored the other side of this belief as applied to him. He misled others..he obviously has testified and acted upon his religious morality upon others, involving others, situations that includes others. He has encouraged this like belief that others should follow it.. that there is all these things in it..these benefits.. and that this is a truth that others should accept.. and yet if it is a lie..and not true...he has done exactly what he thinks those of non belief are doing.. and especially if he put effort to actually bring someone specific into belief. He misled them... So how would he feel?? It gets very uncomfortable for them at this point..

    Mr "leading people to hell" is basically doing a Pascal's Wager (with a side of why don't you just shut up). If you're right and there's no God well at least people are being good and feel happy, if you're wrong then you've led them to hell. But that's simply just not the case as if there is no God then they are believing lies, supporting a religion which supports atrocities, and wasting time talking to something that doesn't exist, etc. Also how weak (or cruel) is their God to allow that to happen?!

    In regard to your last podcast, when someone says Merry Christmas to me, I will often times just say Merry Christmas back, however if I'm in a mood and its like a clerk at a store or say the Post Office as an actual example, given that these people are just assuming that everyone they encounter celebrates Christmas (or they don't assume and don't care) , I will sometimes reply with "Thank you! Happy Hanukah!"
    Of course I'm not Jewish either (but they don't know that), and frankly I don't even know if it's the Hanukah time when I say it, but just to get the point across to the person who just randomly says Merry Christmas to me, a stranger to them.

    • @tkenglander6226
      @tkenglander6226 2 роки тому

      I'm an atheist who celebrates Christmas; however, there has never been any religious meaning to the holiday in my family. If I said, "Merry Christmas!" to a stranger, say, while shopping or standing on line with groceries waiting for the cashier, I'd be fine if someone said back to me, "Happy Hanukah!" I wouldn't assume they were offended by what I said but, if they were offended, that's okay, too. They're entitled to their feelings, which are caused by their perception of the interaction, not by what I said. Cheers! And Happy Early Christmas!! ;-)

    • @EmeraldView
      @EmeraldView 2 роки тому

      @@tkenglander6226 I think a lot of people who just say "Merry Christmas" as a general holiday greeting wouldn't be offended to be returned with a Happy Hanukkah. Though there are definitely those who would at least be taken aback. To me it's more to get them to think that maybe a more generalized greeting is appropriate after all.

    The National Congress of American Indians, in a Sept. 17 email to the Merritt Island school, reiterated its longtime stance against the use of "Native 'themed' mascots," arguing that such depictions have long bolstered racist views and other harms against Native Americans.”

    Regarding the caller around 30:00, my high school mascot is the Redmen. The school board recently debated changing the name, and so far have decided against it. One of the arguments people made was that it was chosen to "honor" Native Americans, and of course they knew natives who were OK with it. Two points I made were to ask what the reaction would have been had those Native Americans said "this is offensive and racist. We're people not mascots." My second point is that we as white people don't get to decide whether something is offensive to minority groups; those groups are the only ones that get to make that decision, and how many of them need to be bothered by it for it to be an issue?
    I live in Cleveland, and we recently changed our baseball team name from the Indians to the Guardians. I had a friend - who is as ginger as the day is long - claim he's part Cherokee and he didn't find it offensive. I asked him if he identifies as Cherokee, and if he's ever been treated different because of his native heritage. He shut up about it after that.

Thirdly, it's entirely on God why people go to hell in the first place since it made the whole process.
