  • After over 8 years of using Teaching Textbooks in our homeschool, I feel more than qualified to give you my opinion of the program. Having a teenager who completed most of their high school levels, I also feel like I can honestly answer the question I hear a lot, "Is Teaching Textbooks good enough, or hard enough, for high school?"

    I’ve been using TT since I pulled my son out of public school mid-3rd grade. He’s now in 8th grade. Math isn’t my strong suit, nor my son’s. TT has been a blessing. I’m definitely continuing with it through high school!

    Thank you! I've been waiting years for someone to say their child scored well on a standardized test after TT.

      FYI - After using aBeka exclusively from K5 to K 12, I found she was struggling with Algebra 2 and Geometry. Upon the advice of a friend who homeschooled six children, who used TT, and received high enough ACT’s to get scholarships in college, I switched. My daughter already had a high enough ACT score to get a scholarship to college, because math was her lowest score, (others scores were up close to and in the 30’s). A year and a half later, when she completed TT Algebra 2 and Geometry, we retested and she went up five points on her ACT in math.

    I'm glad to hear that Teaching Textworks has worked so well for your daughter. We just started teaching textbooks with my third grader.

    I started my twin boys on TT in 3rd grade and will be in 6th grade next year. We love it as well. I understand the same curriculum won’t work for everyone but I’m glad this has worked for us. In the beginning I was caught up in worrying that because TT was not stressing my kids out- it must not be working 😆. It took me awhile to realize a math curriculum doesn’t have to be hard, stressful or time consuming in order to be effective!

    Thank you so much for sharing this! We have been doing a very rigorous curriculum and have been wanting to make the switch. I have been on the fence because I was worried it wasn't "enough".

    We started the free trial this week, I actually like that they go back and review. And the best thing of ALL is my daughter is enjoying math again! After using math u see and CTC math. I love they have real life math added into the lessons.

    I looked into Teaching Textbooks simply because I am not strong in Math, but after looking over the grade levels and the extent of the lessons, I didn't think it was enough. My daughter has used Abeka and it works well, and the amount covered is much more thorough than TT. I don't think I would recommend it for a student who is more Math/Science centered, but I could be wrong.

    TT is liked by students and parents because it is easy...but there are opinions that it is not enough especially for high school...I have been using it in the 9th grade this year but we are switching towards more rigorous curriculum since our focus is on the college level math for dual enrollment and a very good SAT score.

    We love TT! Started using it when my oldest was in 2nd grade. She did Math 3 and now she will be doing Pre-Algebra this year so this will be our 7th year. She scored in the top percentile for math on her state test in 5th grade, so it covers everything. I like that it is spiral and no matter where you start it covers the basics. My only con is I wish they would spend more time on the actual math they need to master for that grade. For instance, when she was in 5th she was learning how to convert and reduce fractions and it was only a small percent of what was covered for that program. They did review it again in Math 7 but she struggled a bit with fractions so she could have used more time in that area before advancing to more difficult fractions in Math 7 so I had to get a tutor for her just in that particular section. We shall see how Pre-Algebra goes this year.

    I think TT is a great price too! My kids are finishing up math 4 & 6 next month. This is our 3rd year using it.

    We love TT have used it for 3rd & 4th grade but I will ALWAYS couple another curriculum with it. At this time we use Master books Math and we use a grade lower so it gives a great spiral and foundation.

    We pulled out of public 5th…tried TT for a few years then it stopped “being clear” around pre algebra time frame. We switched to Learn math fast and that has been a blessing. I’m glad TT worked for your kiddo. Where did your child take the ACT at? Would love a video on how to do Duel enrollment

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  2 роки тому +1

      She took the ACT twice at one of the local high schools. I've got several videos about dual enrollment in my homeschooling playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PL2ViP1vFsZemGJkdk-DLivrIvoVinPq2p.html I also have a video coming up tomorrow about which dual credit classes she took that you might find helpful. :)

    How much time a day did she spend on Math in, say, fourth grade?

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  2 роки тому

      It varies depending on if it's something she finds difficult or not but I would say about 30 minutes, in general.

    Is it still possible to use the physical textbooks with the online? PR would that be like doing two lessons a day? We love physical books too much! But I also would like help teaching. Thanks, Julia

      The online version comes with an ebook that you could print but it's A LOT of pages. If you'd prefer to buy the workbook, I believe you can on the Teaching Textbooks website but you'll want to double-check.

    will TT Algebra 2 help with the ACT?

    • @2ysur2ysib
      @2ysur2ysib Рік тому

      Yes, my daughter went up 5 points on her ACT math score after completing Algebra 2 and Geometry through TT! I switched her out of aBeka, because she said she couldn’t learn from the teacher, although we have loved aBeka for everything else.

    My son's and 4th grade and I had to skip the first 30 lessons of teaching textbooks. It was way too easy and then I felt like it wasn't enough. So I bought the good and the beautiful and there were concepts being introduced in the good and the beautiful that had not even been introduced and teaching textbooks yet. I feel like it's lacking in the lower levels. Although I still really like the program. I just think it needs supplements

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  2 роки тому +3

      There is a lot of review at the beginning of each new level so that might be why you felt the need to skip the beginning lessons. As for concepts being introduced at different times than other curriculum, I understand what you mean but in my opinion, I don't worry too much about when something is taught as long as it is taught in a somewhat timely manner. That's just my opinion, though. :)
