This is my first year homeschooling my 10 year old twin boys. I purchased CTC Math, which was fine, but my child with learning disabilities hated it. Someone suggested Teaching Textbooks and it was a game changer. No more whining or frustration. My other child asked to try it and same response. It’s so affordable and I love that they can use an iPad to complete their lessons. It’s so much more developmentally appropriate than other math programs I’ve looked over. The biggest win, is that it isn’t common core. If parents really understood how ineffective common core is, they’d run screaming. Thanks for the video!
It always happens no matter what you pick it seems. It happens when the new and shiny wears off and the real work begins, lol! This has definitely been one of our best choices though and I'm SO thankful for it!
I’ve been noticing a creeping suspicion that my neurodivergent kiddo probably wouldn’t pass an assessment for this year and that worries me. Mom guilt doubled down with homeschool FOMO! Love how excited and thorough this flyby video was!
I have felt so alone in my homeschooling and life journey in general. I'm grew up Mormon and am no longer. I'm also no longer religious, but am conservative and traditional. I feel like I've found a friend in your channel.
Thank you for telling me. I am so glad to know I've helped, God is GOOD! I think that for us that were brought up in certain religions that we are no longer part of it's a little harder and more lonely.
We are homeschooling through Seton and they offer TT for Math. Lifesaver. People say it's not "advanced" enough or go up a grade, but my daughter has filled up two notebooks already (I prefer she solve formulas or problems from scratch) so we are sticking with it. Lol. Yes some of it is "easy" in a sense that a lot of the previous lessons are repeated. But this is soo needed.
Thank you for sharing, we are switching to Teaching Textbooks this next school year. I’m struggling so much with teaching math to 4 students I’m spread so thin. Your video was an answered prayer! I knew we needed to do something different I just didn’t know what.
I have been using Teaching Textbooks since 3rd grade and a really like it. I'm in Pre Algebra now, and I like not having to read everything. I like the hints too.
Thank you...Thank you! I feel God had you put this video just for me and my family. I have literally just been praying over our math situation, with an anxious heart. Looking forward to diving into researching in this more. Thank you Shayla.
I love math! It is probably my strongest subject. Once a week I tutor my children one on one in a more mastery based way, but have them doing Teaching Textbooks for their daily work and it has been wonderful. I highly suggest xtramath for fact practice daily😁
We started using Teaching Textbooks our 1st year homeschooling and haven't looked back...love this program! I didn't know they had tutors available...good to know!
This has saved my life!! I have a neurodivergent child that needs lots of one on one help, I love that this can take a subject off my hands! My oldest used to hate math and struggle and now he is getting 90's! This video is so helpful, I didn't know about all the features (like pausing!) Thanks for this review!
I dropped mid curriculum earlier this year to switch to TT. My oldest boys were great at math but hated it. They love TT and I had to set a limit of 2 lessons a day.
Teaching Textbooks saved my math teaching woes!! I loved when my older kids used it!! They really loved it too. We tried Monarch math online before then and it was not that great. I have dyslexia with numbers pretty badly and had to take extra math courses in high school because I was so bad at it, so I was really not happy about the idea of teaching it past 5th grade. I love how the Teaching Textbooks course works. I will say, when I had to put them into public school last school year, when I needed a job for about two years, they were a little behind in math for the first few months, but this year they had As and Bs so they caught up quickly (their system does not do common core either). I didn't know you could call in for a tutor in Teaching Textbooks. That's pretty awesome. The app is really great. I hope to use it again in the future for my little one when I homeschool him.
TT also revolutionized Math in our house too! It took the tears away and now they do a math lesson daily without argument. They do use the scratch pad and one of them prefers it to paper.

I don't do many complete reviews anymore since this channel has grown, but I wanted to share what we use for math because we love it and it's worth sharing for others homeschooling. This curriculum has completely transformed math in our home, and the results are always good (we do yearly testing).
This was very helpful because I have a daughter who finished 7th grade and unfortunately the school kept telling me she was behind. But would not say what lvl she was at. After a long battle and getting no answers I got her tested at Sylvia Learning and found out her math lvl was a 3rd grader. 😔 sooo she won’t be going back to public school anymore. & I been in search of a good math program that will help her master her math instead of getting put into the next lvl with no understanding.
I loved math in school. I easily can assist my kids when they need it, I just can't teach three different levels of math at once. I love TT. My third born is so excited to start TT like her older siblings this coming school year! TT takes a huge load of me.
Three levels of math plus the other subjects is a very full plate for sure. It is such a wonderful program for those of us in that boat. Thank you for sharing, Ericca!
I don’t even have children yet and I love your homeschool videos! Have you ever made a video on your kombucha? How you started and the different types you like to make?
Hello! Thank you so much, I don't have a how to video on kombucha, but I wrote it down to include this in a future video just for ya! Thank you for letting me know what you'd like to see!
This video is going to help so many people. I had never heard of teaching textbooks. Sounds like a great program. We used BJU Press from Bob Jones University. We loved that curriculum.
I've been using TT for my kids for a few years now.. I had NO IDEA they had teachers that you can call and talk to! Praise God! This video is an answer to my prayers!!! Thank you!!
My 15 year old didn't like teaching textbooks, so we switched midyear to CTC math. He liked it better, but my daughter still struggled. This year, I think we are going to try Denison Math. It's not cheap, but she really needs to go back and relearn the steps. The first 3 children I sent to public school at first, and I think the 19 sickness showed me that they needed to be homeschooled. My oldest son, who was in 11th grade this year, seemed to do well with Teaching Textbooks for his Geometry. ❤ I didn't know they had help to offer! That might have changed the outcome of us switching. 😮
I really like using Singapore, but I am glad to know about the levels vs grades if I ever feel like I have to take something off my plate. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for sharing this info! It's nice to hear how the yearly testing has gone for your family. I have looked into TT before, but the naysayers are pretty convincing 🙉 I have come to see that all the featured offers of any program don't amount to much if I struggle to get to everyones' lessons every day.
Thanks I have littles so not to 3rd grade math yet but it is nice to hear all of this about it and also hearing that switching between different maths is bad because I have seen so many people bouncing around with curriculum and I wondered if that made it harder to stay in track and not have more holes in the education. I heard you will always have some holes but that seems to make more. Thanks
I don't care if a cirriculumum is behind because it eventually levels out regardless lol I don't understand that concept because if it isn't the level at least they have more practice
It is very simple. Ask them the name of the first fifteen presidents, the states and capitals, and then end with what are the formulas for various mathematical understandings. Lastly, I would ask them to spell a few foreign based spelling words...words that are in no way spelled by true phonetics😆. Continue quizzing them as they quiz your children, eventually they will be embarrassed by the "lack left from their educations😉". If they pass the above, ask when they desire to begin tutoring your children because they are hiding their talents😂.
I have used teaching textbooks for almost 10 years. I homeschool 4 children. 3 of mine do well with TT, however one of mine just doesn't understand. She is currently a grade lower than what her friends are in. She's very intelligent in other ways, but math is hard for her. She cries while doing TT every day. So I stopped the program. I'm not sure how to help her.
Hello Caroliapatriot, would something like Math U See with the manipulatives work for her do you think? Also, TG&TB might be one to look at, it has manipulatives too and seemed really solid to me.
@@mountainmamashome I was encouraged to try Math U See at the NC home school conference. I'm assuming TG&TB is The Good and the Beautiful. I haven't looked into that one, but I will. Thank you for your response.
We’ve been homeschooling for 8 years now, and we LOVE Teaching Textbooks. My daughter (now going into 8th) gets annoyed with it sometimes, and it does go over some things a bit too much at times. (More than other spiral method curriculums, I believe.) This is just her opinion. But, we stick with it because it’s effective. My husband is the math whiz, but I’m the one that’s home. (I LOATHE math.) So, it really works for us! She’s a year (level) “ahead” and that just kind of happened when she was younger because she loved it so much and worked way ahead. I always recommend it! 👏 Adding that my daughter always tests at the gifted level in math even though she doesn’t love it, when we do our end of year testing…
Where do you print out the child’s work part? That is something I didn’t know and can’t find. But we just use the app on the phone and tablet. So maybe I need to sign in on the computer?
This is my first year of homeschooling our daughter. She's going into 6th grade. She passed math with a low B, but did not pass her SOL test for math. What level should we start her in this curriculum?
I was curious about Geometry on TT. Is it a problem that it's on screen? We're doing geometry this year and my son wants TT but I wasn't sure it was feasible?? At least not how I learned it.
Thank you. My Grandson’s were both going to public schools. In October of last year, Gabriel, my oldest at 16y/o, was playing soccer and was kicked. The result of the accident was a crushed talus and fractured tibia. A devastating injury. He has had 2 surgeries since and cannot weight bare. I have faith that he will be alright and it won’t require a total ankle replacement. It’s clear that he won’t be returning to school. It isn’t safe. Thank you for your information and inspiration.I know the Lord will see him thru.
