  • Welcome to Episode 3 of Tabletop Papercraft, where I will highlight some of the many paper/card models and producers that can really enhance your tabletop battlegrounds and games or add to your armies at very little cost.
    Here we look at Ebbles / Genet (Christopher Roe) and his FREE range of model downloads.
    www.genetmodels.com
    Of course, paper models are not as detailed as more expensive plastic or resin models, but they offer a very cheap alternative.
    Enjoy!!

    Genet Models is quite the iceburg, and I think you displayed it well! Color variations don't have to be a limit, my glue work is so sloppy, I end up priming and painting all of my models... Including the Genet models.

      Many thanks for the kind words! Not having to paint the pieces is one of the main reasons I continue to use papercraft for larger terrain 😁

    Also, as an aside, baseline paper builds are unlikely to get you the look of plastic or resin. However, they are a blank canvas for scratch builders with deep bits boxes, and even 3D printed greebles! One CAN outstrip the 'official' models made by that BIG games company, it only costs you time and effort. Once you build one, you can't stop!

    Somebody on the Infinity forums (well, the previous version before the latest migration) printed the UD-41 for terrain, newer version i think, and the damn thing looked like it was *made* for these minis! Shocked more than one folk when it hit them that it was papercraft :D
    Quick note about the "Utility Shuttle": The white model looks almost exactly like the "Skyfighter" ships from the old "V: The Final Battle" movies and series from the 80s, with the extendability and all, only missing the Visitors sigil thing. If you wanna have a game with disguised reptilian alien invaders, these are a must :D

      Hahaha I have the new UD-41 all printed out but just haven't had the guts (or storage space) to get it done! I really wish there was more colour schemes though.
      Geez, I remember the original V....... one scene in particular, when the girl scratches her arm "my arms itchy" and the skin comes off revealing scales... kinda freaked me a bit when I was real young hahaha

    you got an important message across very well. The appeal is as a hobby which is liberating if you deviate from the official must - haves, which cost an arm and a leg.
    I'm late to sci fi gaming and as a solo, I do exactly what I want. I have a couple of tanks in Vallejo verdigris, and a lovely orange - red skimmer, and am about to go for a scarlet colour scheme for recently acquired squads of CP models Space Ogres. Nothing to say a green camo scheme wont stick out on an alien world...
    I have bought some cheap plastic tanks to paint in my chosen gaudy colours, but I'm thinking some of the paper vehicles might stand in perfectly.

      You should never feel obligated to use what you can't afford. That is simply a way for the rich to gain advantage over the poor, and these are games after all! I have a lot of respect and good memories with GW as I started out with Warhammer 1st Ed, but eventually just got fed up with the expense of being competitive.

    I stumbled upon a ton of papercrafting stuff today and I've been down the rabbit hole for a few hours now. I'm very glad you made all of these videos because you're covering most of what I've found!!
    I'm sorry if you've covered this but do you use normal printer paper for these or do you use anything thicker? thank you for these videos!!

    • @IthaquasBane
      @IthaquasBane  День тому

      Hi and welcome to the channel. More papercraft videos will be added in the near future!! I only use normal paper (70-80gsm) for really small objects. For the majority of papercraft I use either 160gsm or 230gsm. 160gsm for most things (its cheaper), but 230gsm where some amount of structural strength or rigidity is needed (most buildings and larger vehicles). Hope that helps and many thanks for watching 😁

    Nice find! I remember doing some cheap and effective paper craft cosplay stuff a few years back, and these minis are a nice reminder that war games don't need expensive miniatures to be enjoyed. Exciting times we live in now too with cheap 3D printers flooding the scene, sure there's some upfront cost but printing a dreadnought for pennies is a great alternative too.

      Thanks! 3D printing is the thing, and I would love to get into it, but over here in the tropics it is still a hefty investment at the moment. Keeping my eye on prices and availability though. I miss the UK...... sometimes!!

    Some of these look great as set pieces or maybe even having a bustling city with vehicles scattered around. Do you have any advice for assembling these? I have printed some on 200gsm cardstock as assemble it directly, do you re-enforce it before assembling??

    • @IthaquasBane
      @IthaquasBane  2 роки тому +4

      Hi Jason, thanks again for commenting. I tend to use 230gsm for most models, but go down to 160gsm for the smaller ones simply to aid with the folding and fiddlyness. A lot of models that require reinforcing usually have reinforcer blocks included in the pdfs, but generally it is a judgment call based on the model itself. The cliffs I have been using in my Reign in Hell videos need more reinforcement than I put in, but that was only found after constructing them. Have fun and let me know how things go!! Stay safe ;)

    Maybe you already did a video on it and I missed it but how do you build these models? Are you just folding them from straight printer paper or are you using reinforcement?
    I especially like his fort Maginot or how it's called. I made a number of the wall pieces and magnetized them. This way I can build all shapes of walls and forts super quickly and easily.

    • @IthaquasBane
      @IthaquasBane  Рік тому

      Hi, most of the models have no reinforcement unless the models comes with reinforcements supplied in the file. I do print on 230gsm cardstock though which does provide some strength. "Firebase Maginot" is one of his older models but could make a huge and impressive fortress!! Also make sure you download and build some of his "Modular Hills", very useful and easy tabletop essentials!! 😁 www.genetmodels.com/dioramavignette-aids/
