Bootlegs might be bad for grown collectors, but as you said they might not be that bad for kids. When I was like 10 years old I wanted a little clone army so my dad bought bootlegs and second hand figures for me, I never noticed until I grew up. My dad couldn’t afford to buy that many original figures and I appreciate that and had a lot of fun playing with bootlegs.
At the end of the day, that's what really matters, just enjoying them!
Same here bootlegs for star wars troopers are actually decent
I feel like my eye is so trained about clones I can tell what's KO and what's legit just by looking at minor paint differences in the helmets. Like I can tell the Mace bois apart cuz the Hasbro one has a metallic look to the purple paint on the helmet. These KOs look pretty nice though, I've been intending on getting them myself soon.

Grab 'em while you can! I think they will start either getting bought up by folks or banned by places like eBay. More avid collectors, like yourself, can certainly spot the differences. But I feel bad for any newbie who wants to get into collecting and thinks he just found the best deal in the world.
Same with LEGO knockoffs, the prints on knockoffs look terrible compared to real.
@@zachduperron8543 Yes, but I have also seen some REALLY high quality prints on bootleg Lego. Usually the bootleg lego that copies a custom Lego company, like one that makes their own Lego accessories and such.
Yeah, I got some of the Razor Squadron knock-off clones, and they are so close to the real thing, I thought they were authentic at first!
Honestly, I'd say its better that someone is making more of these at all than that the same pool of figures molded ten years ago get passed around and siphoned out of the market. But I'm not a collector, just a dude who liked these things when I was a kid.
You’ve got a good point, honestly. At this point, as long as they are made safely, I’d like it if kids these days could get their hands on cool troopers without paying collector pricing. I don’t like that people sell these for full price, as though they were real though. That’s my biggest issue.
Agree with you 100% For people who want a clone army these provide an opportunity to fill in the clone battalions that go for high prices online. As long as collectors don't try to pass these off as official releases, they can be good army builders,
and that's the bad part, I have seen people asking waaaayy too much money for these bootlegs already. Trying to pass them off as "real Hasbro"

I recently picked up a 5 pack of those purple KO clones. They look and feel great, and look good in my collection/army building. I’m planning to literally brand them (probably on the back of the leg) to distinguish them from the authentic figures, like I did with the KO 1st Order troops I unknowingly bout a couple years ago. I personally don’t mind KO’s, so long as I know what they are and would never try to pass them off as official.
Whit Anderson That’s a pretty solid method. For a personal collection it’s a good filler and I appreciate people like you that make sure it doesn’t get mistaken as a KO. The trouble I have is that since they exist at all, people will always try to be dishonest. I already see them poppping up more often as “official Hasbro” and it’s disappointing :/

Hey man I gotta question.
When it comes to setting up those bootleg clones how do they fair when holding a blaster in a aim/ready to shoot position? Does it hold? Can you not even fix their arms to that position? Etc.
On one hand I really think it's cool because of customs and that sort of thing. But also the idea that people will try and sell them at official pricing really scares me. It sucks because this all ultimately stems from Hasbro and their lack of bothering at all to meet the demand for this stuff.
Totally agree with you on the first part! However, I think someone just happened to find the molds for these troopers and remade them in some factory. That sort of thing would have happened regardless of what Hasbro does. HOWEVER, people desperately wanting to buy them and having to resort to bootlegs is due to hasbro not making any more cool clone figures. But I guess that's the point you were trying to make hah
@@RustbeltCollector I don't mind the bootlegs figs but I don't want to own any unless it's for customs. But yeah Hasbro won't make any clones anymore it's horrible. On top of that I hate the current Clone mold they use in the Vintage Collection.
I don't mind the bootlegs, as long as I am buying them from China, since they are not being raised in price by someone who is aware of the knockoffs but yet chooses to sell them at normal price. I found it easily to tell they were knockoffs, but I still ventured into buying some. I bought a single Salucemi Trooper, red dot, and his hand stuck out and came off really easily but I still liked it. I then bought a lot of 5 purple shock troopers, 4 of them were pretty good but one had 2 left arms. However I really do like these, despite the flaws as it is a good opportunity to army build. They recently started doing stormtroopers aswell, so as a person who lacks stormtroopers I've bought 5 of them along with 5 212th, hopefully they turn out alright. Great video tho, it's great to hear another collectors views on these knock offs.

I don’t mind KO as long as they sell them cheap, you can’t really buy any hasbro clones for a decent price nowadays, KO were there to fill a demand and they did a decent job.
I don't know why but I love KO'S / BOOTLEGS.
There’s almost a certain charm. I picked up a pack of 5 bootlegs for less than 30 bucks, and at some point If I needed to I can always donate/sell them cheap if I really needed to. Bootlegs when sold cheap are great, but do not buy anything past 30 dollars if it’s the 5 pack from eBay, 5 dollars a figure is a perfect price
So there is some actually decent knockoffs(only because they are completely based off the original hasbro figure haha!)
When you are working from perfection, it is hard to fail!

Thanks a lot for making this video man! I actually didn’t notice that new bootlegs clones had been made. By the way, the bootlegs have swivel ankles rather than ball joint ankles on the official figures (although it’s impossible to tell from a picture). What you said towards the end was very well said. In my opinion it’s pretty disappointing that the only affordable clones you can find are these knock offs. It’s pretty unsettling as a collector when you’ve wanted a figure for so long but ended up settling for the bootleg (like I did with the mando clone). Especially since these figures aren’t factory level quality. I’m using the Mando clone in a stop motion but it’s nearly impossible with his hands always falling out, especially because he hold a minigun...
NAP Stop Motion I’m glad you enjoyed it! I didn’t notice any difference with the ankles on mine, but it makes sense. They sometimes simplify the articulation on bootlegs to save money.
Some of the variations are sky rocketing in price right now and I think the bootlegs will make them go even higher.

That’s awesome! There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a cool clone trooper, even if it’s a bootleg! My only reason for making this video was just to prevent people from buying bootlegs thinking they were real and paying too much for them :-)

I just bought the 501st bootleg figures on eBay a couple of weeks ago to customize into 332nd Ashoka troopers. Honestly. If you don’t play with them and collect them. They’re worth it ngl. Specially if you’re like me and like to customize

I agree, bought 30 clone wars style clone troopers, casted the stone mould torso and helmet and painted them into my favourite legions, I don’t like customizing Hasbro figures (their expensive) and the KOs are cheap, just could t carry articulation over
I would like to know how the 501st bootleg aged in these two months since your comment, planning on making a 20 clone army at least and bootlegs would be perfect considering the price. I won't play with it that much but I probably manipulate the clons with some frecuency, do they broke or something?
I saw these on Ali Express, it felt like a good deal - was going to buy, but after seeing that broken one I probably wont.
Well the broken one is from a different bootleg lot that I bought. I collect janky and goofy bootleg figures as well and that is one of them.
@@RustbeltCollector Actually bro, giving it second thought. These new wave of bootlegs are actually pretty good for my collection. I love the clone wars - atm I have Clone Wars armour Obi Wan, Mace windu and Ahsoka, Rex, Clone SGT, Neyo and Fox. So this new bootleg set with the 501st and Utapu will complete all the clones I want to get. All thats left after that is clone armour anakin. Thanks for doing a vid on these!
You can notice this on them but one of the breathing apparatus on the helmet is smaller than the other
I bought star wars blue senate guards and they were exactly the same from the original ones with little defects.
IF you ever do a follow up to this video, a couple other very noticeable signs that these are a KO are the sharp edge protruding from the elbow pad area below the right bicep. This is present on all of these KO Clone color variants. And the Shock Troopers and the 187th Clones have PAINTED belts and feet, unlike the official Hasbro product that are molded in their appropriate colors.
Not sure how I feel about these figures. What do you guys think?? They have currently made 10 of the various Antennae Mold Clone Troopers, they are only missing a plain white version and the different colored cast figures (Kashyyk trooper, Gree, Spec Ops trooper, etc) (this doesn't count things like the BFII Engineer and Yellow BARC)
i think you should review the bf2 and the barc trooper and the more unique ones as then people will be able to know hte difference jsut by looking at them

I think it would be a lot better if they produced clones with original paint markings. That would actually be pretty cool! And it wouldn’t really harm the clone trooper economy at all, and you wouldn’t have to worry about accidentally buying a bootleg instead of the official.
NAP Stop Motion I’m hoping that they will eventually! Some bootlegs I’ve seen so dive into weird “custom” designs. So there is always a small chance.
I bought the 501st set of 5, shock troopers, and cw phase 1 clones. See what's up when they arrive. Might order a few of the others, I dont care if they're KO, I just want a few troops for my armies.

I knowingly bought a bootleg stormtrooper its really good actually and the difference is the pouches are all black on the fake one the originals have one pouch that is black and the other is white its really hard to spot it
Have you come across any bootlegs that have been able to recreate the packaging? Not too long ago I purchased a second covert ops trooper, I didn’t have any issues with it until after I opened the package. Very quickly and after the most minimal of handling the shoulder pads began warping/the left one began cracking (the actual shoulder piece, not the joint) and the paint, although looking accurate, felt didn’t feel as smooth as the one I purchased years ago (although I chalked the “smoothness” up to wear-and-tear until I saw this video)
hmmmm if they have, you would be the first person to report it. So as of right now I have not seen the Covert Ops clone made into a bootleg, it's possible and I even assume that they would do it eventually, but I haven't seen one anywhere.
It's possibly they made a bootleg, but also possible that you got very unlucky with one that just has bad quality control.

I bought those four off eBay. I knew they were knockoffs and I love them, four rare and different paint decos on close to authentic looking antena molds? I love them.
Their hands do come out a lot, but so did the original real ones

The first 4 hit almost a year ago. You can see those in my first video. These recent ones dropped maybe 1-2 months ago? Pretty recent all things considered.

I was thinking of buying one of those army builder bootlegs off of Aliexpress to fill out a section on my shelf, and the only thing I'm worried about is if the paint they have is safe. I've heard horror stories of older bootlegs from other toy lines/series (i dont think anything star wars related) having weird odors and under led testing they tested positive, which is why I've never bought bootlegs. Do you think the ones on Aliexpress could fall under that?
It’s hard to say for sure! These bootlegs may smell a little, because they are PVC plastic and probably not made to the same specs that hasbro requires. The paint could be lead, but I’ve never seen someone test it. If it is, it really shouldn’t be an issue if you just want to display them. For lead to be dangerous, you need to handle it a lot or ingest it.

same thing is plaguing the lego clone market as well. The knockoffs are everywhere and marketed at extremely inflated prices. I used to be entirely against it, but they have a place in the market, but the problem is when they're passed as legit for unfair prices. These would be great kid army builders or custom fodder, but I have to agree, it does hurt to see.
Yeah, that is something I noticed as well. Lego knock offs are no longer goofy and terrible, they are sometimes better than Lego. Sadly, people buy them and mark them up to try and make some easy money off people who don't know better.

Knock offs as early as four years ago were an absolute joke, now we get these knock off hasbro lads and lego bootlegs that can rival even higher end custom figures. After JCs review I'm tempted to buy some for looks, but I mean the fact I'm considering it flies in the face of everything I've believed about collecting. It's a hard thing to watch as it takes over the market. It's a knockoff hellscape right now. I'm scared for what the future holds in collecting. I mean these hasbro knockoffs are arguably superior to what hasbro makes now since they're based on the golden age of clones.
The bad thing about these is that there are gonna be scumbags trying to sell these as real, good thing is that these are dirt cheap and pretty good for army building, they're also nice for customizing because i wouldn't dare touch any of the real figures but with these cheap figures i can customize them and not worry about messing up at all.
I'm pretty good at painting and i have bought some fake shinies to paint myself, i need a platoon of 327th Star Corps troopers and i have painted and weathered 2 of them already, they look great next to Bly.
I also have bought a couple of the 212th figures from AliExpress and i'm satisfied with them, i already have real Cody, 2 real Airborne clones and 2 real normal 212th troopers, and the fake ones look good next to the real ones, gonna weather them myself as well.
Aww, sh!t...I just bought that bootleg 442nd Clone Trooper. I just thought that they were mispainted rejects. I have a Captain America figure that was mispainted to look like his Ultimate Comics version and it's awesome. And now that I think about it, I think I bought that bootleg Shock Trooper a few years back😞
ah, that's unfortunate! according to all the sources I have, these are proper bootlegs and not rejects. However, the quality isn't totally bad, so hopefully it will still work for what you want it to!
oof the knockoff 212th could easily be mistaken for a routine valor pack clone though...
You're right, they are close! But I think the Routine Valor trooper has some paint chipping. Like the orange lines are not crisp. Even so, a rookie collector might get fooled!

Bootlegs are only bad if they are sold at original piece price. Also if they break 90% of the time.

I almost bought a bootleg 501st because it looked so similar to the real one. Terrifyingly similar to the real thing, like I said, I have coruscant and fifth fleet for antenna moulds. I might have to go on eBay and also wish me luck for a cheap real antenna clone of any kind.
They do look extremely close! It can be tricky to spot the real ones on Ebay now

The 187th bootleg is very concerning. I've been wanting to get my hands on the old Mace Wndu's Attack Battalion battle pack for a while and now I'm going to have to keep a close eye on any ones I find for a good price.
Yeah, that's going to happen a lot more frequently I fear. If you can find it new in the box for a good price, I would go that direction!

I think these are great. If hasbro had any sense they’d look at these, think ‘oh these sell really well & they’re not even using good plastic,’ and make their own. Unfortunately hasbro do the opposite & as a result KO’s become more popular. I think it’s honestly a waiting game before someone with a brain cell at hasbro decides to evaluate the market & demand for clones, and starts to make/update these moulds for the new collectors. TL;DR - sad for 2 reasons, not for their existence but Hasbro’s negligence
I think that we may never see them again, even though the market is clearly there!!

All of them are shipped loose from China. I’ve never seen one on card.

No packaging, at least in the US. Sometimes they have packaging in Asia, where it can be delivered from the factory.
Isn’t it technically illegal for them to use basbros stamps and logos and all that? Couldn’t they press em charges on the people making the fakes?
It most likely is. I’d guess that eventually hasbro might get around to sending them a cease and desist letter.

I don´t care, I had some and they are more clear than the official one that are so expensive. I have e sell originals, and people prefer more these one... Sorry folks but I made Hasbro reach, know I looking for price and quality and they are booth...

The bootlegs are good if you want the army but don’t have the money for collecting authentic figures. Plus some of the authentic figures are WAYYY over priced
Yeah, buying for a personal collection is not a big deal. But people are now trying to sell these as real figures on ebay and other sites, which is not cool :/
@@RustbeltCollector I agree. The bootlegs need to be sold as bootlegs. I decided to buy 40 of the phase 1 clone wars clones and they were being listed as “hasbro” on eBay which was a bit annoying.
there are always 2 dead giveways of ANY and ALL current bootlegs:
the "teeth" of the mouth piece are more tightly grouped together in 2 pairs on the bootlegs compared to hasbro which is more evenly spread out.
on the right elbow (the figure's right) of the bootlegs, if you look closely you can see a tiny bit of protrusion coming downwards from the white-colored elbow guard strap. when you have the bootleg in hand, that small protrusion can hinder the right elbow's swiveling. official figures ofc dont have this and ive had to chop it off from the few of my bootlegs.
I have a few bootlegs but I bought them for cheap on purpose. you'd probably want to spend the time to heat up the figures in warm water and lube up the joints a bit. id say that the quality is alright (if you kid-glove) and fairly good for budget army building but yeah selling bootlegs for original prices isn't something that's forgivable
