MK7 GTI w/ IS38 APR Tuned Dyno on Pump Gas

  • Full bolt on 15' GTI with IS38 turbo on pump 93oct. SAE corrected 371.35WHP/381.31WTQ. STD correction factor reads 380.56WHP/390.77WTQ.
    The numbers are pretty good, but still had more left in it with better fuel and ideal conditions. You can see they used only one small fan that was far from the front of the car and pulls were done directly after driving through 2hrs of traffic, so IATs were well north of 100*F during the pulls.

    have apr stage 2 and downpipe in my gti mk7. do u recommend the is38 from your experience so far? really interested in this hardware

    Congrats! That is a nice upgrade over the APR Stage 2. How does it feel when you get on it compared to stage 2? Does APR supply a complete kit for this? Is the IS38 water cooled and does the stock water cooling pump work with it?

      +Rad Fox IS38 is a bolt on turbo, all the coolant and oil lines bolt right up. It feels great, super wide power band... you can see it doesn't fall under 300HP or TQ throughout the entire pull. The car just screams up top now too, but it doesnt have that massive torque punch the IS20 did early in the power band that died in the upper RPMS. Check out the video I posted against the guy with the stg2 who was cool enough to run me.

    That air spinning sound scares me. Can someone tell me what that is? Is it the turbo under strain? I just want to know because I haven't heard it on turbo cars from other brands.

      That's compressor surge. Basically only happens prior to 3k rpm, before valve cam profile switches over to accept more air(VW version of VTEC), turbo is trying to cram air into the engine where engine can't take anymore, so air surges back out to intake against the spin of compressor. This is really bad for turbo shaft and bearings. The sound you are probably looking for is those swooshing squirrel sound from JDM cars when they lift off, that is perfectly safe as wastegate opened and turbine isnt spinning the blades anymore.

      @@brianchen3964 interesting that the VTEC kicks in at 3000. How do you know that? I seem to have compressor surge on my stage 2 car and like you've said, I landed on it not happening above 3k but happening below 3k....

    How much are you dropped on the Bilstein b16 coilovers?
    What is your front ground clearance with the drop and the maxton front lip?

      About 1.75", 3/4 of the way down on the adjustment Bilstein offers. I have never measured the lips clearance, but it's just enough to get around on public roads without catching on everything. It's nice that it's raw plastic too, so when it does scrape it doesn't do anything.

      So I just installed 245/40/18 tires (BFGoodrich G-Force Comp-2 A/S) on my 18x8.5 ET45 wheels. I am rubbing a little on the fender liner in the rear on the gas side ever so slightly with my 5mm spacer installed. I don't think this is a big deal though.
      I am worried though because I have Bilstein b16 coilovers (PSS10) coming and even with their standard 30mm drop I feel like I may rub in the front and rear with these tires because they stick out a little further than the wheel. Am I going to need a crazy alignment or anything or will the tires tuck in a little from the drop? I know you modified your fenders because of the front brakes but did you need to modify anything before then with these tires and the initial 30mm drop with the VWR springs? Also, the coilovers state on the Bilstein website that they offer lowering of 15-35mm. However, you are lower than that which makes me feel like it is actually 30-50mm of drop.

    I finally pony up for the R and the GTI is this nasty with only the R turbo on it. I want to see that thing run the 1320 on slicks. Hopefully not in the lane next to me. Haha.

      Probably because you are running on Mustang Dyno? They output really low numbers

      +Victor Quezada - Oh yeah, no problem. GTI and R use basically the same internals and APR has already crossed 500WHP with them without an issue. Another guy in UK is almost at 600WHP on stock internals too. I'm not saying going that high is super safe, but the power limits of this motor seems to have yet to be discovered so far.

      I just asked this very question about stock internals on your other video. Your reply was 8 months ago. How is the car holding up now? Any issues with the power? I read people having issues with turbo's blowing on the 2015 GTI models.

      +omar elkhazendar Nope, Forge Twintercooler. I think the APR unit would likely make even more power too, but I probably won't end up going that route unless I come across one for cheap.

      +omar elkhazendar The IS38 cost me $1,300 from VW and it requires a tune too (another $995 retail from APR). The car is ridiculously quick for a little FWD hatch, yet it still manages 35MPG on the HWY. No 0-60 times recorded, I am back on all season tires now so traction can be an issue from a stop. From a roll this car is a beast though, I have no problem keeping up with most 450-550HP cars (like stock-ish C6&C7 Vette's, CTS-V's, SRT8's) due to its light weight and quick shifting DSG trans.

      +Reesecup1200 Nope, just the S3/R turbo and tune. I think companies are calling it a stage 2.5 for the GTI.

    Im apr stage 2 right now , to do that turbo swap with minimum requirement is $1200 for the turbo , $800 for the intercooler ,$700 dsg tune, $700 ecu tune for is38 turbo , $100 spark plugs, plus installation lol I'm good , stage 2 as it is with michelin pilot super sport already cost me 3k plus but shit everything i see your dyne 390whp im like it might me worthy lol

      +dominicancash Hate and troll much? lol. I do all my own work (aka no cost) and have some sponsors. Turbo cost me $900, Forge IC was $450, USP DP was $400, plugs cost $19 and then the APR tunes which I'm not going to discuss what I paid for. Please take your hate game elsewhere loser.

Only my Michelin pilot super sport were $1000 plus apr stage 2 with usp downpipe , this nigga acting like i want your car like yours nigga i have a better car , my argument is valid is you do all the work a nice shop like i do is gonna be the amount i said , luck it you that u can do your own crappy job.
